Envisioning the absent Meghan.

By Rachel Tashijian, confabulating in "Kate, our flower crown princess" (WaPo):
The rare moment of pathos was provided by the Ascension Choir, a selection of gospel singers from England, belting “Alleluia (O Clap Your Hands)” and swaying. You could almost see Meghan, whose 2018 wedding to Harry also famously included gospel music, smiling victoriously as the sun began to rise in southern California. (Perhaps she’s even pajama-clad on Oprah’s sofa for a watch party?)

AND: Visions of those who are on the outs but were in there nonetheless (and what they wore):

Like Kamala, I am darker than Meghan and I'm a white guy (or so I'm told).

I didn't know either Harris or Markle were 'black' until they used it for grievance points.

Where are my damn reparations?

The only thing I can imagine is her standing from her seat and making a b-line for the throne while grabbing the crown from the archbishop's hand and putting it on her head while screaming "racism". She then mic-drops in front of a stunned audience while waiting for what seems like an eternity for the silence to be broken by applause. This is undoubtedly the scenario going through her head back home, but to her it's considerably less cringeworthy.

I’m in London and the city is celebrating not only the King but that Meghan isn’t here to make it all about her.

So what Rachel is saying is that Meghan, uninvited and unwanted in England, sits at home thinking of nothing but the party she's missing.

How sad that this royal family is estranged. I do imagine that had there been better a better relationship between the brothers and father it could’ve made the Royals forerunners in inclusion. Maybe they still are, King Charles seems to be trying. Meanwhile we Americans have right wing media kings who espouse exclusion and fear. Some of them have been falling off their throne lately, that’s a positive.

Btw, the 'plain suit' is most likely bespoke Savile Row and at least $5,000 +/-.

Andrew and Harry, both of them victims of what my best friend, a physician, calls history's most insidious infection against which there's no holding off "death by pussy."

Good GOD why in the world would
anyone entertain this tripe as relevant to the ceremony we just witnessed.

I understand how it is that many Americans don’t have any interest in, or understanding of, British history or culture.

I just never want to hear from them.

So Meghan, for whom now King Charles acted as stand-in father at her own wedding must have been excluded because of racism. Right?

Harry is a tragic figure. Out of the royal realm but never truly in the Hollywood realm.

She's not absent, but rather socially distanced by her choice, and her husband came tumbling after.

"How sad that this royal family is estranged."

There is absolutely nothing wrong from estranging oneself from toxic people. Nothing. I'm sure you know all about that Inga.

It’s so nice that Britons have such a catty, stuffy, bedazzled institution upon which to project their most obsolete national feelings. Our own conservatives here could benefit from something like that; it would mollify their need to assault democracy and channel their dissatisfaction with it elsewhere.

In the meantime, they’ve got the Trumps. But “president” is such an inadequate position for this purpose. Not lofty and ridiculous enough to reflect what they’re really all about.

No you couldn't. You made that up, right? People pay you to write your fantasies at WaPO? Is it becoming the OnlyFans of journalism now?

A subject that has nothing to do with politics is turned into bullshit politics by our resident leftists.

Get a fucking life.

I always like to remember that the Royal Family in England is the largest landowner in the country, holding multiple billions in property and earning hundreds of millions per year from that ownership.

Revert the crown holdings to be a generator of revenue for the people of England, like Norway did with its North Sea oil capital, and let them earn a damn living.

The Ascension Choir felt forced. As did the group allegiance bit. Other than that, I enjoyed every moment. Anchor Piers Morgan couldn’t bring himself to utter Herself’s name, calling her the “Duchess of Montecito.”

Our own conservatives here could benefit from something like that;

is that why many of them venerate someone named Burke, Edmund?

"Thus, we had the spectacle of “Dr.” Jill Biden attending the coronation of King Charles III–an inspiring event, for completely different reasons–along with one of her granddaughters, wearing not the colors of the United States, but those of Ukraine" (Hunter daughter, or course.)

The coronation's traditional choir and orchestra are multiracial and performed compositions representing the musical traditions of countries throughout the Commonwealth as well as traditional British compositions. A South African soprano sang. A Welch baritone sang in Welch; Welch folksongs and an Irish hymn were performed. If you don't know the difference between Welch and English people, you are insulting to both.

Roderick Williams, OBE, a bi-racial English operatic baritone with a Welch father and Jamaican mother, gave, I think by far, the finest performance with a Christian anthem and composed other music for the service. International representives of the Commonwealth and religious leaders from several faiths led the procession. Music celebrating Prince Phillip's heritage was also included.

It was a fine and thoughtful example of religious performances blending old and new, joyful ancient English hymns and modern international ones, plus a bit too much Andrew Lloyd Webber, but nobody's perfect. Only a petulant American B-list actress was absent, and her presence would not have made the event more multicultural or diverse -- there were enough petulant and disrespectful Americans present to check that box.

It was pandering and tacky for Jill Biden and her granddaughter to politicize another nation's most solemn ritual by wearing Ukraine's national colors, which even the First Lady of Ukraine did not wear. And to use one child of the disgraced Hunter Biden to represent the American people at Coronation only a week after Jill and Joe participated in disowning another child of Hunter's, and their own granddaughter, was a disgrace.

I'm not a fan of King Charles except to admire his patronage to preserve and promote the arts and languages of all the Commonwealth nations. His coronation was a beautiful expression of his lifelong commitment to doing so.

Racist fabulists will have to look elsewhere to find imaginary "white" exclusionism.

This is one instance where Kamala Harris, of Tamil Indian and Jamaican descent, would have done a much better job of representing the United States. The British P.M. is of Punjabi Indian descent, and essentially the main performer and composer honored by King Charles to conduct the Coronation music is of Jamaican descent. For that reason alone, it would have been a fitting gesture.

So why didn't the Democrats choose VP Harris instead of one of Hunter Biden's children? That's literally what Vice Presidents are for on such state occasions. It's in their job description and recognized as a traditional role. Are they distancing themselves from Harris, or were they just being racist by sending two unelected white people instead?
