If I'd written this as fiction, I'd expect a good editor to come by my house and slap some sense into me. The twenty first century isn't turning out the way I'd imagined.
Isn’t there humor in the absurdity of the arrest and/or the left’s belief they continue to control the narrative? I mean even college educated white women are catching on now…
I think what they mean is that it will be entertaining because most people understand that in this particular case the prosecution is just high political theater, and that Trump has the chance to make fools of the DA and his team, which I expect he will.
"And to the Banana Republic for Which It Stands.... Mauritania, Myanmar, Botswana, and other Third World nations dragooned former presidents into court in recent years."https://spectator.org/i-pledge-allegiance-to-the-banana-republic/
Well, it's kind of strange, but I find that I don't hate Alvin Bragg's filthy, stinking guts any more today than I did yesterday. I guess there's some kind of limiting effect.
Asa Hutchinson, the former Republican governor of Arkansas (who is thinking of running for president) told USA Today that people who are indicted for crimes should not run for president.
That went over like a lead balloon. National Review, which hates Trump, smacked him to the ground like Lawrence Taylor hammering a poor QB.
David French and David Frum think it's weak applesauce, too.
When you've lost the RINOs, I don't know what the fuck you can do. Mitt Romney is going to bite your ear off, Bragg.
Note that in the mentality of Alvin Bragg, Stormy Daniels did not commit a crime worthy of prosecution when she blackmailed or extorted Donald Trump, but Trump did commit a crime worthy of prosecution when he paid her because he was being blackmailed. I think that, to the average American, this is an absurd argument — and perhaps the average Manhattan juror will agree.
"Some people say that a prosecutor can convince a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich. I never thought of myself as a ham sandwich. But some people say that I'm a ham. Anyway, apparently, there's a district attorney in New York who thinks I'm a ham sandwich. And he wants to eat me up. I don't know. I don't know. I'm thinking I might give him a little indigestion. There's going to be some belching and farting in the D.A.'s office. Just saying. Something smells in the D.A.'s office."

Nancy Pelosi is the standard bearer for college educated white women, no? Her "no one is above the law" bullshit statement says Trump will have a chance to "prove his innocence".
College educated white women have even abandoned the idea of "innocent until proven guilty".
The Democrats seem to be very happy with the new banana republic legal system they have installed. I think a lot of this is just an attempt to start violence on the right so they can smash the conservative movement. They might be mistaken. Certainly the level of violence on the left is increasing rapidly. Look at the video of the Tennessee legislature being attacked. If J 6 had looked like that the Democrats might have had a point.
To be honest the only part that truly irks me is the fact that all of the people celebrating Trump's arrest today will be outraged whenever anybody from the Biden crime family gets indicted.
As far as Trump, I fully expect him to walk away from this with no penalty, and if it ever reaches a courtroom, he will humiliate the prosecution. This only makes Trump more of a martyr. I think it greatly increases the chances of Trump winning in 2024. I say that as someone who thinks Trump is too old and shouldn't run again. What the Republicans need to do is to get behind one of the firebrands in the House and run them. I'd go with a Chip Roy or a Jim Jordan.
Picture it: Trump goes to the Capitol in chains, is sworn in, pardons J6ers, pardons himself, has chains hammered off, down the Capitol steps with Melania looking her regal self, over to the DC jail, sets all the captives free, drives to the White House with ex-prisoners in limos behind him, dinner at White House.
I hope they're right. Personally, I think it's going to be very hard to return to a political climate that feels like we're one country, let alone "One Nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
If he goes to trial in Manhattan, with the NYC jury, he will be convicted no matter the evidence. They hate him and want him gone.
And then, no matter how laughable the case evidence, his conviction will give enough of the non-Trump-loving R's and independents an excuse to not vote for him so that the D's will win.
The D's are controlling this cycle. The rest of us are just along for the ride, unless we do . . . something.
I recall in the book & movie, The Firm, the protagonist lawyer presents the feds with evidence of mail fraud by the mobbed up law firm, to destroy the firm, while not getting himself killed by the mob by securing the firm's information on their many other crimes.
He says to the feds: "It's not sexy, but it's got teeth! Ten thousand dollars and five years in prison. That's ten and five for each act. Have you really looked at that? You've got every partner in the firm on overbilling. There's two hundred fifty acts of documented mail fraud there. That's racketeering! That's minimum one thousand, two hundred fifty years in prison and half a million dollars in fines. That's more than you had on Capone."
While the tax fraud charges are more realistic than the movie overbilling, they too have teeth, especially in a prosecutorial witch hunt where the charges say "line 47 of this page does not match line 23 of page 63, due to a deduction on page 235 line 12, not allowed under the rules of the IRS, and that is a criminal fraud." Out of 34 charges about tax filings, certainly a jury will vote to convict on at least one. And one is enough, for a mob.
This indictment may recede in news when the multiple indictments are handed down in Georgia, and the SDNY libel trial over rape denial starts in April (as scheduled). Then there's civil fraud trial over Trump valuations in October by the NY AG. No timeline for Smith's investigation into presidential records and the conspiracy to overturn 2020 election result and prevent Biden inauguration. And hush payment to Karen McDougal in late 2016 for 2010 affair may get squeezed in somewhere. How will other presidential candidates compete with the resulting waves of sympathy for Republicans' favorite president. (Not to mention Kim, Xi and Putin's.)
“Reading all the 2016 warnings from the Normalcy Guardians and self-professed Democracy Protectors about how there’s literally nothing more corrupt or dangerous than craving the prosecution of your political opponent — especially for trivial crimes — is really quite something.” — Glenn Greenwald
An innocent man spent a lot of fucking time in solitary confinement because he dressed funny during the Jan 6 riot.
The people who aren't embarrassed about that are the same people who want to lock up Trump, too.
You are fucking disgraceful Americans, and if you're not hearing that because Pravda owns the airwaves, it will take a couple of years but the truth always catches up with you.
Historians aren't going to be able to spin this as some sort of righteous jail time. The liars will be outnumbered by calm people who prefer the truth.
The problem with emotions is that they die down and then you're going, "What the hell was I thinking?"
So enjoy your rage now, but in 2030 you're going to look truly stupid. And you're going to try to send it down the memory hole and it's not going to fit.

Thank you for laying out in one concise paragraph just how pathetic and petty all of this is.
I'm old enough to remember that the raid on Mar a Lago was absolutely necessary because of the vital national interests that were endangered by the absolute top secret nature of the documents that Trump allegedly smuggled out of the White House. And I am truly impressed with the airtight secrecy that the court and special master have maintained over the nature and substance of the documents, despite intense press scrutiny.

Interesting that the two people remarking on the tweet have also seen legal pressure by this government cabal.
Enjoy your Fat Tuesday progressives. You'll find out later what you gave up to have it.
I think it was Mel Brooks who said...

Musk's comment echoes what Scott Adams always says.
Usually true in hindsight...

Possible comic lines for Mr. Trump...

It's interesting that Trump is described just as "former President".
Biden in 2019, with respect to gathering evidence against him in the Ukraine, was described as "Trump's political opponent".
To paraphrase Mencken, American democracy may not be the best form of government, but it is the most entertaining.
Even in the degenerate last phases of imperial corruption and collapse, laughs will be found.

Musk predicted that an indictment would lead to Trump's re-election, making that both the most likely and most entertaining outcome.
" will be outraged whenever anybody from the Biden crime family gets indicted."
In which blue district is this going to happen? Unless you think the DOJ will suddenly transforms themselves once Biden is out of power.
I hope they're right. Personally, I think it's going to be very hard to return to a political climate that feels like we're one country, let alone "One Nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

You'd think that after the IRS's visit to Taibbi's home, he'd feel a little more ominous about this.
Trump cannot win in a New York court. Juries are scared now. Douglas Mackey’s conviction shows it. The left has won, at least for now.
Nancy Pelosi is the standard bearer for college educated white women, no?
No.
The most entertaining option would be for Trump to be acquitted on the first 33 counts and convicted on the 34th.

But I didn't realize he was actually singing about Manhattan and NYC...
