... after another day of staying inside out of the cold and wind.
So, again, no photo. Tomorrow, we're told, it will be "much warmer," but that means only that it will go up to 8° (which will, they say, feel like -11). But the days are getting longer. Today was 6 seconds longer.
All of this is just to say: Write about anything you want in the comments.

I like snow at Christmas. Cold temps are part of the deal. Merry Christmas to all!
The weather here is terrible. Snowing like crazy after a day of rain. It was warm: 42.
I would have checked the temp coming into the garage, but as I left the henhouse- a long flash of lightening followed by such a loud clap of thunder kinda scared me(sissy sissy me) and I didn’t stop to look at the thermometer.
Stay safe, my friends.
A very merry Christmas to all Christians! Bless you. Bless your families!
It only got up to the mid 70's here in the Inland Empire. It's supposed to dip down to 48 degrees tonight and make the high 60's tomorrow.
It was 82 at Isaac Hale State Park today. Saw some dude spear 6 parrot fish.
A good way of rating the quality of a video is by wether I watch the whole thing or not.
I watched this whole video 👉🏽 Unsaid Things

For the first time in my memory, power outages caused MLGW (who buy from TVA) to threaten rolling blackouts. This was when about 40k customers were without; a few hours later it was 20k and the rolling blackouts were canceled "for the foreseeable future."
Now, a few hours after that announcement, they're talking about blackouts again.
Very unusual hereabouts.
It’s 15 at my location in Georgia.
We've been getting freezing rain all day. It's finally turned to just rain, but all that freezing rain has turned the top of the snow to ice. It's necessary to stomp on the snow to break through the ice layer.
I attempted to walk down to our mailbox, about 1/4-mile away. The road looked like an ice rink. Turned around. I'll hit it tomorrow after it warms up into the 40s.
The power went out again this afternoon. Most people have generators out here. They're a necessity if you don't want to huddle in the dark under the blankets.
Been there, done that when we were in our Bellevue house. One winter the power was out for about 6-days. We had to leave after a few days and found a restaurant that had power.
Post 8 of 15 - Clyde's Top 10 Favorite "New" Songs of 2022
#8 - Quivers - You're Not Always On My Mind (Live on KEXP) (Golden Doubt - 2021)
Quivers is an Australian jangle-pop quartet from Melbourne. This song was released as a single in 2019, with an official music video; I chose this instead so you could see the band playing live in the KEXP studio in Seattle. In 2021, the band also released a song-for-song cover album of R.E.M.'s 'Out of Time.'
Quivers - You're Not Always On My Mind (Live on KEXP)
Bonus song: Quivers - Near Wild Heaven (Out of Time, 2021)
With Bella Quinn (the bassist in the other video) on lead vocal.
Quivers - Near Wild Heaven
Extra special bonus song! Merry Christmas!
I Don't Know What Christmas Is (But Christmastime Is Here) (From "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special") - Old 97's
a.k.a. Christmas Adam
Before Covid (all time seems to divided into "before Covid" and "during Covid"), we hosted a "Little Christmas Eve" on December 23rd. It's a Danish holiday - and, no we aren't Danish but we liked the idea.
Very casual - mulled wine (glogg); salmon, other goodies as the mood inspired. Just a nice, easy chance to see our friends before the stress and chaos of Christmas Eve/Christmas Day.
For a variety of reasons (family health issues primarily) we couldn't do it this year but hoping we can make it happen next year.
Merry Christmas Meadehouse.

The 1.7 trillion appropriations bill is truly demoralizing. I've started to wonder whether I should stop paying attention to politics entirely. I believe this country is past the point of no return. The Republicans cannot be counted on to offer any resistance to the destruction of our republic. Just where is this money supposed to come from? And how much is being spent on the needs of actual citizens? Our elected representatives in Congress are flaunting their contempt for the people they are supposed to serve. I don't want to become ignorant of current events, but being a political junkie these days just makes me too angry. The news gets worse and worse, and there is no coming back from the abyss. The damage from the Democrats, enabled and abetted by the Republicans, is irreversible.
Anyway, Merry Christmas, everyone.
There was a great Ohio ice storm in 2003 followed by many days without power at well-below zero temperatures. I lived by candles for light and cooking. The great secret was the keep the basement door open and use the basement floor's stored heat to keep the house above freezing.
It was almost 40 and raining at 9 this morning. By 10:30, it was 22 and snowing. Still snowing. Very windy.
I've rigged up a ramp in the backyard leading to the dining room so my wheelchair-bound mother in law can have Christmas diner with us. I'm not looking forward to what will be necessary to get the wheelchair through the snow to the ramp. I'm not even sure how I will go about it. I just hope the snow stops at least couple hours before she gets here so I have the opportunity to do whatever clearing will be necessary.
We call it Christmas Adam at our house.
Just checked the weather app. It's 9 degrees, but that's as cold as it's going to get.
I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas. Or a Merry December 25th if you don't celebrate Christmas.
Shoveled 6 inches of snow off our sidewalk and front steps yesterday, in 5 below temp. More memories of growing up in Eastern Montana than I cared to endure. Today was a heat wave, got all the way up to 10. I used to ski in this 50 years ago. No more.
“ The news gets worse and worse, and there is no coming back from the abyss.”
Yes there is. That’s what Christmas means. That is why we sing joy to the world. Or as Longfellow put it: the wrong shall fail; the right prevail.
As Isaiah assures is about those who fight against the right “ Yea, it shall be unto them even as unto a hungry man who dreameth, and behold, he eateth, but he awaketh and his soul is empty; or like unto a thirsty man who dreameth, and behold, he drinketh, but he awaketh, and behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite. Yea, even so shall the multitude of all the nations be that fight against mount Zion. [mount Zion being the people who listen to and honor God.]
While our hostess is complaining about the Madison weather, think what would have happened if we hadn't known it was coming. This exact situation occurred in 1888 (The Children's Blizzard) with 250+ dead (with a much smaller population).
Almost no one gives weather science the credit it deserves. This amazing cold wave, along with blizzards in a number of areas, began to be forecasted on December 8th. See: https://www.mikesmithenterprisesblog.com/2022/12/december-cold-wave-looming.html

My elderly German Shepherd has to go out, but really needs someone with him. So I've spent my day here in Western Pennsylvania periodically stepping out with him into the nastiest weather we've seen in a decade together. He seems to be holding up better than I am. We haven't seen a soul walking or shoveling.
Only -4. The edge is definitely off the cold this evening. The windows have stopped popping and the furnace is catching its breath.
Merry Christmas all.
Merry Christmas, everyone. We drove to CA to spend a few days with the kids and grandkids. Traffic was heavy through Phoenix and from Palm Springs on. I usually take the 8 but we were staying in OC the first night. Nice day weatherwise in LA today. I just hope the traffic is less going back Monday. I feel for all the people experiencing cold weather. Thank Joe Biden and his handlers. At least we are not as bad as UK with its idiot King.

Global warming is a b*tch : )
It's Festivus, and I've got a few grievances...
Snuggling up with a couple labs here. They surely know how to curry favor…. Stay warm and keep peace y’all.
Thank you Ann for your wonderful blog and happy holidays to Ann and Meade.
"But the days are getting longer. Today was 6 seconds longer."
Earth's rotation is slowing down?
Merry Christmas Ann. You bring a lot of sense to the crazy internet.

Thanks for the encouragement, Quayle.
Could the global warming people finally shut the fuck up?
It’s freezing outside!
The power went out again this afternoon. Most people have generators out here. They're a necessity if you don't want to huddle in the dark under the blankets.
The Clinton Inaugural Day Storm in Seattle, 1993. My kids loved cooking popcorn over the fireplace in the living room, and sleeping by the same fire through the night. Grandma was cooking hot meals with the gas Coleman stove on the back porch. They still talk about it.
My grandson has his first acting gig — he’s six month old and at tomorrow’s Christmas Eve pageant he will play Baby Jesus. The plan is for him to be the first Oscar winner with a Fields medal and an Olympic gold medal. If he doesn’t get an Oscar then an Emmy or a Golden Globe will do. It’ll be okay with me if the Olympic medal comes on a relay. No pressure.
I like Ron DeSantis. I love his wife. Wow!!
I worry American women will vote against her because she is so beautiful.
Here on the Western Shore of the Chesapeake our high temperature today was 55, at the stroke of midnight. It's been downhill all day, and is now 15.
I’ve spent the last month traveling through SE Asia, where almost no one has seen snow firsthand.
One surprising takeaway from this trip: Christmas decorations and music are *everywhere*, including Ho Chi Minh City.
Taking off tomorrow, Christmas Day, at 0930 from Bangkok. Landing 25 hours later in Boise. On Christmas Day.
"While our hostess is complaining about the Madison weather, think what would have happened if we hadn't known it was coming."
Not only that, just think what would have happened if it wasn't for global warming.
Your weather just showed up in SWFL drunk. One of you needs to come here and get it!
Wednesday afternoon Amtrak canceled my reservation for yesterday's Lakeshore Limited, the train from Boston to Chicago. Looks like the weather in Chicago/the Midwest is abominable today. I couldn't reschedule until next Tuesday (remarkably, took only about half an hour on hold and then to reschedule, not the hours I expected). So much for holiday stuff with my tons of family in Chicago. Am still looking forward to Drunk Shakespeare, Second City, and Steppenwolf later in the week, plus a restaurant or two (not as many as I was planning).

Merry Christmas to all, especially to Ann. She does the heavy reading so we don't have to. A great hostess for all of our comments.
Isn't it interesting that while SBF was getting bailed out by his parents, in person, the US government was voting to bail itself out because it would be... embarrassing to have China appear in the floor of the House of Representatives... I guess.
Was AOC for it before she voted against it?
8°F outside right now. We're in the 2-4" predicted snow band in Central NY between the two ends of Lake Ontario getting 2 feet or more...
Weird winter so far. Some bad slippery weather a few times, but no real snow accumulation here. Lake effect has bypassed us so far. And by New Year's Eve we'll be seeing temps in teh 50s if the 10 day forecast holds. 50°F. In CNY. In the last week of DEC and first week of JAN.
Great Lakes ice cover on all the lakes is currenly way below the historical average for this time of year. Which means that with a proper turn of the wind- absolutely horrendous lake effect snow could bury large areas with deep snow. Pretty much impossible to predict more than a few days, and sometimes a few hours out. And for those that haven't experienced localized lake effect, I found out what that was my first year living here. Left for the (then) 8 mile commute to work, from my bright and sunny and snow free driveway. About halfway to work I saw a line ahead of me crossing the road extending into the fields in either side. In the space of a hundred feet I went from an absolutely clear road to driving in 6+ inches of snow and almost zero visibility due to how heavy the snow was conming down. Not fun.
Merry Christmas everyone!!
Happy Krampus
20 degrees in Southeast NC (on the coast!). Coldest it's been since I moved here 6 years ago. I will not be riding my bike today.s Good day for the gym.
The Weather Service has an ice storm warning for 3:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. today. Up to a 1/4 inch of ice accumulation. Just what we need! I wanted to get some oregano for tomorrow's lasagna dinner. Not going to happen.
The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has been putting into place rolling blackouts since yesterday. We have had 5 or 6 already in my eastern part of TN including 2 this morning. Since they are a gov't owned utility, they have been going green and closing coal plants without sufficient electricity making replacement technology. So, here we are in a very red state at the mercy of the federal government for supplying our electrical grid. I used to feel bad for CA but, ironically, we're no better. Just recently, Biden appointed some real extreme "greenies" to the board of directors of TVA so things are only going to get worse.

This is a violation of the Anti-Deficiency Act. That Act requires that the Fed buy goods and services at fair market value. It bars people from working for the government for no salary. It's the reason Mar-a-Lago charged the Secret Service for rooms at luxury prices.
Paying Federal salaries is a violation of that act. There another word for that practice: Bribery.
Keep an eye on the Matt Taibbi’s Twitter. He’s going to be releasing something.
Last night he wrote… This last week saw the FBI describe Lee Fang, Michael Shellenberger and me as “conspiracy theorists” whose “sole aim” is to discredit the agency. That statement will look ironic soon, as we spent much of this week learning about other agencies and organizations that can now also be discredited thanks to these files. Selfishly I may release some of that information in the morning, to be done with it so I can be fully-present Dad on the actual holiday.
Lawyers, Guns, and Money:
It was perfectly evident by a year ago last spring that the vaccines were safe and worked, and that people who didn’t get vaccinated were going to be exponentially more likely to die of COVID than people who did. The latest CDC figures show that unvaccinated Americans are 11 times more likely to die of COVID than fully vaccinated — meaning double boosted — people, which means that by now we should be looking at something like 35 deaths per day, aka a relatively mild flu season, instead of the current 400 COVID deaths per day.

Yes, you can find left-wing anti-science cranks, just as you can find plenty of individual conservatives who aren’t science-skeptical. But as an ideological matter, the Democratic party supports science and the Republican party opposes it.
Methinks that Global Warming, Democrat version 2022, is far from acknowledged, provable science, supported only by weak algorisms full of bullshit assumptions.
But all of those Republican practicing doctors without degrees should look to the party's stand on abortions to see the error in their ways about ignoring the dangers of COVID.
At about 8 this morning our power went out. Wife's smartphone had enough juice to tell us that it's all part of The Plan.
The Plan apparently being to turn us into a Third World country.
It was only out for 30 minutes, but we have no idea how many will be needed or when they will be imposed.

There [is] another word for that practice: Bribery.
The Politico article that far-right Breitbart reported on says that Eric Schmidt was funding the salaries of some Federation of American Scientists employees where he is the top dog. These are not federal employees.
This Anti-Deficiency Act prohibits federal agencies from obligating or expending federal funds in advance or in excess of an appropriation, and from accepting voluntary services. It cannot deny wages owed to federal employees.
Paying luxury room prices for rooms owned by the President for housing Secret Service guards to the same President being protected (who chose to charge excessively) is a violation of this law. All other Presidents in the past century or so have made no such charges to the government, including Dubya's ranch stays and his dad's stays at Kennebunkport.
Yes, you can find left-wing anti-science cranks, just as you can find plenty of individual conservatives who aren’t science-skeptical. But as an ideological matter, the Democratic party supports science and the Republican party opposes it.
The Democrats support science that agrees with them. God help you if you want to study a disapproved topic. For example, James Lee, a behavioral geneticist at the University of Minnesota, says that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) now blocks access to an important database if it thinks a scientist’s research may enter “forbidden” territory. Lee makes an important point that taxpayers paid for the Database of Genotypes and Phenotypes (dbGaP), which combines genome scans of several million individuals with extensive data about health, education, occupation, and income.
Only science approved by Democrats will be allowed.
Mar-a-Lago is a business that rents rooms to its members. Dubya's ranch isn't a hospitality business and doesn't rent rooms. Mar-a-Lago must charge the Secret Service the going rate. They can't stay for free. The Breakers Palm Beach is an equivalent location a 1/2 mile from Mar-a-Lago. Their room rates are around $2,500-$3,000.
Eric Schmidt paying the salaries of Federal employees is forbidden. It's called bribery.
For the third year in a row we have decided to forgo High Church on Christmas eve - too many sick people about. Sad, because we always enjoy the organ, traditional songs, candle lighting, the processional, the sermon. For many years it has been the only time I don a necktie.
It's the reason Mar-a-Lago charged the Secret Service for rooms at luxury prices.
Market economics. For example, intermittent/unreliable/renewable energy costs more than clean/green/organic fuels, electric vehicles cost more than gas vehicles, clunkers program reduces availability and forces affordability.
Effectiveness of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Bivalent Vaccine
Results. Among 51011 employees, 20689 (41%) had had a previous documented episode of COVID-19, and 42064 (83%) had received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. COVID-19 occurred in 2452 (5%) during the study. Risk of COVID-19 increased with time since the most recent prior COVID-19 episode and with the number of vaccine doses previously received.
Effects of Vaccination and Previous Infection on Omicron Infections in Children
This study lends credence to the findings of an NIH paper from earlier this year showing that only 40% of people with a previous infection in the vaccinated group produced anti-nucleocapsid antibodies, compared to 93% in the placebo group. The possible inhibition of N-antibodies, which are more comprehensive than the S(spike)-antibodies, might be a possible culprit for this negative efficacy even after having already been infected with the virus.
Another explanation might be original antigenic sin, which is the priming of the body to respond to new variants with an antigen to the old strain.
Did Twitter Apparently Not Care About Child Exploitation?
Being an adult and into gay male sex, which is not illegal, isn't a link to anything terrible. Indeed it probably wouldn't be considered reasonably related to anything terrible save for a few minor details.
Like, for example the Catholic Church which had a significant over-representation of Priests, as a percentage of the total number of Priests compared with the total number of men in society generally, who liked to diddle little boys and that the seminaries allowed gay men in, which allegedly should not have been the case because the Catholic Church considers homosexuality "disordered", was an open joke for decades and damn near everyone in and around the seminary process, including the Pope knew it. An awful lot of money got paid out in settlements against lawsuits over that.
Is that an indictment that reaches beyond that specific set of circumstances? No. Its association which, I remind you again, is not proof of anything.
But Twitter widely used said "association" as a cudgel against people who they found to be politically disfavored, such as amplifying calling Trump supporters Nazis while blocking anyone who similarly went after Democrats, banhammering Trump because someone might take his speech in a way that would actually be a crime, charging same against Trump as an accessory before the "possible" event that in fact never occurred and more. In that sort of instance by the very standards set by Roth's leadership at Twitter mere association constituted dispositive proof and the thousands of banned accounts stand as evidence of his abuse of association.
I won't go there and charge him as he charged thousands of others because its not valid. That which is wrong is wrong, period. But since he did this on a mass scale against a userbase of millions of Americans you're free to draw your own conclusions and be as unfair as he was, should you so choose.
Then there is the celebration of the Biden/Maidan/Slavic Spring eight years in progress, progressive prices (e.g. Obamacares, Bidencares), Levine's personal affirmation, and Zelensky's apartheid regime.
>>We're in the 2-4" predicted snow band in Central NY between the two ends of Lake Ontario getting 2 feet or more...
Trivia question Thursday night was the state east of the Mississippi with three of the seven snowiest locations during some recent time period. The Mississippi stuff was redundant, since most of the others were isolated places west of the Mississippi. Buffalo was obviously #1. We correctly went with New York, where the others were Syracuse and I don't remember what.

I agree with Doctor K, saying the Republican party is against science is demonstrably false.
There are always individual nut jobs in both parties. I think when we look at the dregs and losers, I think the bottom D's are worse than the bottom R's.
Need we recall how many Democrats thought 9/11 was an inside job? They could hold that thought (which would require perfect planning and keeping all participants from talking), while believing that Afghanistan and Iraq were not planned out at all.
The doctor wins...1-0.
