He'll have to name names then, won't he?

If he doesn't, people will infer he made the whole thing up.

The screenshot is from Drudge, and the links go to "Kevin McCarthy Says Madison Cawthorn Admitted He Exaggerated Claims About Cocaine and Orgies: He ‘Lost My Trust’" (Mediaite) and "'He's an embarrassment': Republicans threaten to primary Cawthorn over controversial antics" (CNN).

By the way "admitted he exaggerated" means that the underlying assertion is true. It's just that the words were imprecise.

I don't remember to use my "embarrassment" tag often enough. You know, there are different ways of being "an embarrassment." An embarrassment to whom? Just himself? Or to the party? Or to a bipartisan group of powerful Washingtonians?

It was AOC. All Republicans want to date her.

wendybar said...

I hope he does. Name them all, and let them suffer the consequences. (there won't be any, because as we know, they can do whatever they want, because they RULE over us peons who have no say in what they do)

I'm still waiting for Congress to release the names of Congresscritters who got bailed out with tax payer money for sexual harassment cases... WHEN are THEY going to release the names??? WHY should WE get stuck paying for their actions?? https://www.realclearpolicy.com/articles/2021/03/24/182_million_congressional_slush_fund_for_metoo_claims_769046.html#!

To the Republican party.

Or as we should call it now, the Republican Cocaine and Orgy Party.

That was a hell of an accusation. If he isn't willing to stand by it, then he needs to go. McCarthy's right--he's a flake, a loose cannon. He doesn't think before he speaks.

You can't go around saying that congress critters committed drug felonies in front of you and asked you to go to sex parties and not be expected to name names.

The persecution of one Republican back-bencher over an "exaggeration" seems disproportionate in the Age of Biden unless Option Three is operative...

Take NOTHING that swampy McCarthy says at face value. For the love of God we need someone else to be Speaker after Nancy. But this episode presents quite the conundrum so far. The new guy is a strange one but not known as a big liar. The senior Congresscritter is two faced and uses the very flexible term “exaggerated” where one expects to hear “false” or “fanciful” so the ambiguity is thick here. Cawthorne needs to clarify.

Spiros said...

The increased attention and activism devoted to rape has caused young people to live in a constant state of fear. The consequences of this fear are severe.

It is not surprising that, given Mr. Cawthorn's age and handicap, he is plagued by sexual paranoia and vulnerability. But it's not okay either and it doesn't justify his stupid lies.

the Republican Cocaine and Orgy Party

You seem desperate Charles. I'm sure that sounds exciting to some people, but I've seen the representatives in the GOP and I'm not buying it. Sure, Republicans average 3 years younger than Democrats, but partying with drugs and sex with them, yeah nah.

BTW, looking at Cawthorn's Wikipedia entry, he seems to embellish events often. Such as claiming he was rejected by the US Naval Academy after becoming paralyzed in an accident, but then admitting in a legal deposition that he was actually rejected prior to that accident. He also claimed that he was "declared dead at the scene" of the accident, despite medical records stating "incapacitated" which seems likely considering subsequent medical treatment. I guess that is par for the course for politicians, but it still doesn't make me believe in cocaine orgies, especially with a paraplegic.

Given the congress critters age and grossness, I would think that the orgies would require large amounts of drugs.

Now we know what's the story with Lindsey Graham!

Quaestor said...

The Republican Cocaine and Orgy Party are infinitely preferable to the Democrats. In power, they are too distracted by the coke or too exhausted by the sex to do anything but the bare minimum. Every economic and social ill this nation suffers today has been the direct and predictable result of Democratic activism. Activism is just fascism for sissies. We don't need it. We don't want it.

Come November when the Grand Old Cocaine and Orgy Party take the reins of power in hand, they should content themselves with investigating Biden the Younger and prosecuting Biden the Elder followed by some much needed common carrier and anti-trust legislation aimed at Big Tech, which should keep them occupied for 12 months. Grateful Americans will award them with a sex and drugs bender the likes of which even Caligula never dreamt of.

Everything else aside, Cawthorn is a nut. Does anyone here remember his video where he was preparing to break some speed record at the Paralympics? Everyone in the actual sport mocked him as a nonentity.

It's a shame that the youngest person ever to serve in Congess can't be someone with more dignity.

All Cawthorn needs to do is claim that it was people from the Democrat Party who invited him to these wild parties and he sincerely hopes they straighten up so he does not need to name names to the media.

Browndog said...

If he does name names, he'll have to prove it. They'll deny it. Then they'll kick him out of Congress.

he didn't think this through.

JK Brown said...

When McCarthy spoke after Jan 6th and categorically stated there were only bad Republicans there that day, no Antifa, etc. he demonstrated that he is owned and operated by the DC swamp. He may have even been following the script Nancy Pelosi had given him.

We now know, there were Antifa there, there were FBI instigators there, there were a lot of different groups there. But McCarthy got on the Swamp party line immediately because he is their creature.

As for Cawthorn, were any waitresses sandwiched in his allegations?

Don’t dismiss the idea of cocaine-fueled orgies attended by members of Congress. It doesn’t necessarily mean an intra-Congressional romp. DC is a top city for escorts - look it up on the webz - and lobbyists offer more than just cold hard cash.

Consider this story in the context of Eric Swalwell (D. Cal.)'s relationship with a Chinese spy, which broke in late 2020. I suspect that the sponsor/host of these cocaine-fueled orgies did not speak English as a first language and may in fact be hostile to America. Also, note that Cawthorn did not say that he exaggerated - someone else, the Senate Minority Leader who pay well be implicated in the drugs and sexual perversions and may have reason to lie (or at a minimum to "exaggerate" the "admission" allegedly made by Cawthorn), is saying that Cawthorn admitted such to him.

I wouldn't imagine (or I would prefer not to...) that they are having sex with one another. Cocaine and Viagra, certainly. Paid prostitutes, makes sense. Paid for by lobbyists, of course. And I wouldn't limit it to one party more than the other.

We can start with the supposition that this sort of thing never, ever happens, nossir, not ever is invalid.
So the likelihood that Cawthorn encountered some reference to it is non-zero. How likely is determined in part by how disciplined the perps are in keeping it all a secret, so...probably non-zero as well. And then, being in effect alerted to or sensitized to the subject, he hears another reference in passing which is sufficiently vague that, had he not heard the first, it would have meant nothing...so now his presumption(s) is/are reinforced.
Perhaps that's as far as it went and he built a pyramid pointy-end down. Or perhaps there was more reference and common knowledge floating around.
Or maybe somebody thought getting the newby into the fight club would be a proper step.

I would expect all politicians to be the targets of honeypots from intelligence services foreign and domestic and from both parties in order to control them. New and young Congressmen are probably especially vulnerable to that. Heck, Swalwell was the target of one even before he became a Congressman.

Freder frederson displays a shocking amount of ableist bigotry. He feels that the wheelchair bound have no place in an orgy. What other events or spaces should the disabled avoid in his estimation?.... Freder prefers his orgies plain vanilla. The handicapped, little people, people of color, furries are not welcome at his orgies. He's into Epstein type orgies. Only underaged white girls need apply. Any orgy, by its very nature, should be inclusive. They should celebrate diversity. Amputees lend a special flavor if they remove the prosthesis before piling on.
