Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose (R) has referred just 27 potential instances of illegal votes cast in the 2020 presidential election to state and local prosecutors for investigation, an indication of what he called a secure election two years ago.

Interpretation of this announcement: In states where Trump wins, the elections are absolutely secure.

I'm in favor of the death penalty as punishment for casting an illegal vote.

I don't care which party does it.

Dallas ISD has already canceled school for Thursday and Friday. The surrounding school districts will probably follow suit. The freezing rain is predicted to start here, about 9:00 p.m. tomorrow night and turn to snow overnight. Everyone is freaked out because this is about the time we had the big freeze and power crisis last year. But, we are assured that this is not going to be that magnitude of a cold weather event and the grid is alledgedly more stable. Last year the power was out in our house for 58 hours with the exception of a couple of sporadic hours. We have a gas fireplace and oven and that enabled us to stay put. It was an adventure.

Has gadfly apologized yet for pushing the "inflation is non-existent" and then "inflation is only modest and temporary" lies yet?

If not, why not?

And just where did this adolescent dolt pick these lies up?

And why did gadfly passionately embrace such transparently false nonsense?

First order guess: nickelodeon.

Have any of those states refused to comply and cooperate with a full audit? Which ones?

Have any of those states had their state supreme court rule that the 2020 election violated their state constitution? Which ones?

A slightly tipsy toast to a'thouses. We celebrated Bobby Burns Day a week late this year. We sat bousin, at the nappy...

And gettin fou and unco happy
We think na on the lang Scots miles,
The mosses, waters, slaps and stiles
That lie between us and our hame,
Whare sits our sulky, sullen dame
Gathering her brows like gathering storm
Nursing her wrath to keep it warm.

My company emailed today that the previous request for providing COVID vaccination status to meet “regulatory” requirements has now shifted to being a “condition of employment”. Practically need to be a lawyer to understand all the changing rules and requirements. I am sure we’ll will have a conditions of employment link up soon.

Spring must be coming soon. I just heard the mating call of a Barred Owl followed by an answering call I have never heard before except in recordings. Female Barred Owls in a sexy mood sound like a duck crossed with a chicken. If a turducken could cluck it would sound like a lady owl.

Fear, anxiety follow third wave of bomb threats targeting HBCUs

"For the third time in just a month, Howard University warned its campus on Tuesday of a bomb threat. Each time, a law enforcement search found no sign of the threatened explosives."

"...Tuesday’s threats, most coming early in the morning on the first day of Black History Month, broadened and deepened the sense of unease: At least 16 universities closed or swept their campuses. In all, more than two dozen have faced similar threats this year.

No bombs were found, and law enforcement agencies did not identify possible motives. But the threats weigh heavily on many, particularly given the emotional attachment and deep loyalty many students, faculty, staff and alumni feel for the campuses — a haven, a calling, a family."

Comment by"Cezanne W":

Hundreds of "race incidents" on college campuses turn out to be left-wing hate crimes trying [to] build hate against their enemies. See a long list at fakehatecrimes.org

Which describes itself as... "fake hate crimes: a database of hate crime hoaxes in the usa"

'The purpose of this site is to compile a comprehensive database of the false reports of "hate crimes" committed (mostly) in the USA. It builds on the work of Laird Wilcox, whose Crying Wolf (PDF) is the original book on this subject.

The books Hate Crime Hoax and Hate Crimes: Criminal Law & Identity Politics are recommended, as are the websites Watching the Watchdogs and Fake Hate Map.'

So far this database has 453 entries.

Seems there's no further word on "Garrett James Smith" (who recently changed his original name)...a guy who actually MAKES pipe bombs instead of just talking about them:

In March 1981, Ronald Reagan gave a speech at the CPAC Conference Dinner. He remarked:

"There are so many people and institutions who come to mind for their role in the success we celebrate tonight. Intellectual leaders like Russell Kirk, Friedrich Hayek, Henry Hazlitt, Milton Friedman, James Burnham, Ludwig von Mises -- they shaped so much of our thoughts. It's especially hard to believe that it was only a decade ago, on a cold April day on a small hill in upstate New York, that another of these great thinkers, Frank Meyer, was buried. He'd made the awful journey that so many others had: He pulled himself from the clutches of ``The God That Failed,'' and then in his writing fashioned a vigorous new synthesis of traditional and libertarian thought -- a synthesis that is today recognized by many as modern conservatism."

A few things are notable about these remarks. One, I agree with Reagan that Meyer's "synthesis of traditional and libertarian thought...is today recognized by many as modern conservatism." Second, among the individuals listed only one (Russell Kirk) could conceivably be identified as conservative. The rest are either classical liberal or anarchist. Third, later in the same year Kirk published his famous essay "Libertarians: the Chirping Sectaries".

Trying to pursue traditionalism and libertarianism is like trying to pursue sobriety and intoxication. Libertarianism is an idolatry of individualism and abhors traditionalist constraints on individual behavior.

In the 40 years since Reagan's triumphant speech, the trend has generally been in a more libertarian direction (e.g. tax rate reductions, deregulation, privatization, labor union decline, financialization, and trade liberalization. His this resulted in stronger, more rooted communities and families? No, these forces have obliterated communities, upended people's lives, weakened social bonds, and further reduced communities to nothing but a collection of atomized, isolated individuals ravaged by declining life expectancy and high rates of suicide, alcoholism, and drug addiction.

Over the same timeframe, members of the so called "liberal establishment" (i.e. elite, upper-class, etc.) have seen huge gains in wages, returns on investment, net worth, and share of social-political power. After Trump, the political candidacy most opposed by this group was Bernie Sanders, whose supporters were derided as a bunch toxic male Bernie Bros. The biggest political chasm in America is not between parties, races, or genders but social classes.

Elitism is sometimes described as the rule of an organized minority over an unorganized majority. One of the reasons there has been such an hysterical increase in partisan rancor since the 90s is because the substantive differences between the parties have declined. The difference between Bush and Obama was the difference between a right-of-center neoliberal and a left-of-center neoliberal. The notion that either was a radical extremist or on the "far" end of a political spectrum is partisan narrative pushed for propagandistic purposes and credulously accepted by party members. The MSNBC audience and the Fox News audience share one thing in common: they're both being told what they want to hear.

I got a 2 on the Wednesday puzzle. It was weird. My first line had zero matching letters. I'm still wondering how I figured it out. Very fun though.

I have a friend who has the same thing, going 0 for 5 to 5 for 5. But it's not as hard as it seems. You eliminated five letters and narrowed down the vowels. It's not that hard to come up with a five letter word with what's left. SO stop wondering, you really didn't "figure it out", you got lucky. But as you say, very fun.

Yah, you’ve eliminated some letters and being a five letter (American) English word narrows it down quite a bit. There’s also a ‘style’ of Wordle word that’s harder to define but we learn it over time…

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

Yes, I mean it’s interesting how few words are left after you’ve eliminated important letters. It took me a long time to come up with the next guess, and that’s normally what happens when you are about to guess right.

Watch video of people dropping votes in drop box after drop box, then taking off rubber gloves after handling the ballots, and taking pictures of the drop box to get paid.

You didn't, you guessed luckily. I once had a five after guessing 'drank' then 'prank' and finally it was 'crank,' there is a lot of luck in Wordle.

Same with CNN's audience, NBC's audience, CBS' audience, ABC's audience, NPR's audience, etc etc ad nauseum. They're businesses. They are oriented to give their customers what they want.

The problem is there is only one mainstream channel that is not parroting leftist pap in order to fight for leftish audience. And that is Fox. There is not a single other mainstream channel that is anywhere close to the center other than Fox.

Which is why all other media hate it.
