You can't always get what you want.

Wanker.

Hugh বলেছেন...

Last night he was on stage, and I was there to see him. Quite active still, even at 78

Ryan বলেছেন...

I sat close to Mick and his date (gorgeous model) at a restaurant in Hollywood a few years back. It was quite obviously him, and not a soul approached him. I think he is such a big star that nobody dared. (Or maybe it was just LA...)

Strolling Bones?

So Mick tucked up his hair up under his hat and went in to ask them why?

The Stones were rehearsing the last few weeks in Boston.

Rolling Stones ‘forced to miss Charlie Watts’ funeral’ due to Covid travel restrictions after iconic drummer dies aged 80

The Rolling Stones have been forced to miss the funeral of their drummer Charlie Watts, according to reports.

It was announced the legendary musician died on August 24 aged 80, surrounded by his family, with an intimate memorial taking place in Devon.

However, according to The Sun, Watts’ bandmates Sir Mick Jagger, 78 Keith Richards, 77, and Ronnie Wood, 74, were not able to attend due to Covid travel restrictions.

It’s said the band are deep in rehearsals in Boston ahead of their US tour later this month, meaning they weren’t able to travel back to the UK to pay their respects in person.

A far cry from Altamont.

I sent the twitter link to my older brother because we grew up in Charlotte, with a caption, "Geriatric singer seeks karaoke bar in Charlotte." He replied, "I saw the Stones in Charlotte in 1972, as an usher at the Colosseum. I couldn't have gotten in otherwise. I was in 9th grade. That night, I saw my first transvestite!"

The persistence of memory, and the memories themselves, are both indeed surreal.

And no one recognized him?

Don Henley of the Eagles was in Omaha on Tuesday and he looked and sounded great at 75!

I saw the STones in 1978 when they were old. Hey, I was 18.

Some Mick drinks are OK.

I like Guinness, but usually not full strength. Not a fan of Irish whiskey, though.

Would rather see a pic of Keef knocking back a jug of Rebel Yell

Is it me or is the idea of alter kaker rock stars still performing weird? Are there any young people other than those accompanying their aging parents or grandparents to the concerts? How many of us old farts who comment here have kids or grandkids who listen to our music?

Limited blogger বলেছেন...

who took the picture?

TheOne Who Is Not Obeyed বলেছেন...

I wonder how he decided on the Thirsty Beaver. Did he have an advance team scope it out for him so he could go there without anyone making a big deal about it? Did anyone even recognize him? And who is taking the picture.

Maybe that's a sign of being ruling class now - you have someone along on your late-night jaunts (or any jaunts) to take pics of you so you don't have to do selfies. Selfies are very bougie.

Mick Jagger parked in front of the Thirsty Beaver Saloon? *Perfect*
(Also a Perfect Album Cover)

Clyde বলেছেন...

It would be interesting if some friends of the other people in the picture follow Mick's Twitter feed, recognize their friends and tip them off about who that guy drinking a beer was!

Post-pandemic has made us all feel like we could be anywhere, like NYC, without necessarily being there.
Toobin zoomed it up to eleven.

I think there’s a rolling stone record that mentions NYC in every song. Everything gets old sometime.

Wife and I went to the show last night and it was fantastic. Loved every minute of it.

rhhardin বলেছেন...

I've heard of Mick Jagger but have no idea where he fits in. Was he a Beatle?

jaydub বলেছেন...

The Thirsty Beaver is a dive bar about 3 miles from where I grew up in Charlotte. The owners refused to sell to an apartment developer, so he built around the bar on three sides and became locally famous in the process. Central Avenue has been undergoing gentrification and the area is not as bad as it was a few years ago, but it's really weird that Mick showed up there of all places.

Hunter বলেছেন...

Heard it was a heavily controlled photo op. They more or less rented the place out and had security everywhere to keep out any fan mobs. Still a cool thing to be able to say "Mick Jagger had a beer in our bar."

Check out this tweet for a wide angle of the place that tells its recent history winning a fight against development:

Hunter বলেছেন...

The story is remarkable because Charlotte is particularly known for tearing down anything and everything interesting in our town if there is even a single buck to be made on whatever boring Walmart-modern apartment/office building is to be built on the rubble.

Iman বলেছেন...

If I didn’t know that Don Knotts had passed away years ago, I’d say that was Barney Fife hanging out.

Expand the pic a bit… I ain’t lying!

J. Farmer বলেছেন...

The crazy thing is I can remember people cracking old man jokes about the Stones touring and about Keith Richards' hard-partying lifestyle when I was kid 30 years ago.

Iman বলেছেন...

Move over, Morrison Hotel!

madAsHell বলেছেন...

Did he have an advance team scope it out for him so he could go there without anyone making a big deal about it?

Yes. He always has a few droll comments about the locale......and he's 78, but doesn't have to refer to note cards.

Yancey Ward বলেছেন...

Sigh....I was hoping that he just dropped into the bar incognito and no one noticed him. That would have been awesome.

Tomcc বলেছেন...

Agree with Yancey Ward @ 5:51. Could have been a nice profile of life on the road. Once again, cold hard reality hits us square on the kisser.
There's so little serendipity in life anymore. I blame the Kardashians.

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

It’s silly to say “no one recognized him.”

It’s likely that the other people are in his entourage and posing.

But if it is just the normal customers, you still don’t know what’s in their head. I’ve been in restaurants next to famous people that I recognized and you wouldn’t know from looking at me that I did. I left them alone to enjoy their own life. They don’t need more fans showing excitement.

Butkus51 বলেছেন...

Just walk up to him and say, Hey Mick remember that time in 1978, Soldier Field and you did Brown Sugar? That was cool, wasnt it?

Josephbleau বলেছেন...

Unlike Morrison, Jagger probably got off heroin before he killed himself. Sex is greater than drugs.

Bender বলেছেন...

A Chris Farley reference.

rwnutjob বলেছেন...

I read in the comments locally that the people to the right had floor tickets to see the Stones & didn't recognize him.

Aggie বলেছেন...

It must have been a weird mix of feelings - grateful to have a moment of anonymous privacy, and terrified that his public image is so divorced from his physical presence, nobody recognizes him to connect him to his 'greatness' anymore. Am I still great? Am I still famous?. If he's half a man, he's rich enough to not give a shit.

walter বলেছেন...

Flattering lighting

Joe T. বলেছেন...

Sometimes it's better to enjoy your image of a person whose music you like and not have it ruined by contact with him or her.
