"I never would have made that Nazi comparison if I’d known everybody was going to be such a Nazi about it."

"SNL" lampoons Britney Spears, Ted Cruz, Andrew Cuomo, and Gina Carano. There's some good enough stuff in there. The best is Pete Davidson's Andrew Cuomo impersonation.

Trump's humor is more subtle, the kind that makes life enjoyable.

SNL doesn't play to bemusement.

wendybar বলেছেন...

They pick on Britney Spears but ignore our delusional President who has to call a lid early in the morning because he can't function??

MayBee বলেছেন...

Britney Spears has mental health issues to the point that she has a conservator for her finances and only 30% custody of her sons. There's nothing to lampoon about her, SNL.

I stopped watching after about . . . Well, I'm not sure. It was more important to me to get away than it was to look at the timer. I guess about 18 seconds.

Way too much twitching.

Nice eye makeup, though.

I miss the good old days when SNL would at least mail it in.

Two famous 21st century quotes:

"Leave Britney alone!"

"Leave Heidi [and Ted] alone!"

Britney is a mess, but a tragic one. Also, she deserves some time out of the spotlight. What's next? An Anna Nicole Smith skit?

Don't they have bigger fish to fry?

I was good for about a minute or so, about the time Ted Cruz showed up in the roaster.

The only line that tugged at my smile muscles was the one about the nazis. And, was the a female playing Ted Cruz? Hohum. Melissa McCarthy doing Sean Spicer set the bar too high...that role reversal schtick should be retired.

Temujin বলেছেন...

Couldn't watch it. Seriously, SNL is not funny. Brittney was painful. Cruz was painful. (and another breathless media event). So I skipped ahead to the Cuomo bit, but you know, I don't see making light of this as funny in any freakin way.

Maybe it's just me, but people died. Or, better put, people were killed by mismanagement. Serious mismanagement, arrogance, and ignorance. It's not funny to thousands of families. Cuomo disgusts me. The SNL team is too stupid to understand.

Matt Sablan বলেছেন...

The most interesting for the bit I listened to is the super awkward laugh where the one parody says: "Disney has the moral high ground?" It's like, since it comes right after the "such a Nazi about it" joke, the audience is suddenly pushed out of their comfort zone. So that's why they then have the parody turn into a standard high-class bitch routine with "you're soup" and first class/coach. It didn't even match the rest of the parody's parody personality. It was just bad writing. The first two jokes I referenced (Disney/being such a Nazi) are good, because it gives the person you're parodying their own voice taken to a funny extreme.

But after that... it's just the authors of the skit remembering: "Right. She's supposed to be unlikeable!"

Mark বলেছেন...

Wow, people cannot get themselves to watch the video you post ... and think so much of themselves that they comment anyway.

Britney being the only likeable one here was a nice reversal from SNL past who was more than happy to make a joke when she was in crisis.

Honestly, the Ted Cruz section is really kind of terrible. I'm impressed they actually tried to take a swing at Cuomo, and actually doesn't pull too many punches. The audience doesn't seem to get it though, since they cheer at the indoor dining line. I missed the other shot at Disney there the first time. But, even Cuomo is held up as "better" than Cruz, and gets to tear Cruz down. It is interesting how what Cuomo did gets downplayed, and what Carano and Cruz did is made out to be worse than it is.

Matt Sablan বলেছেন...

Also: The woman who is playing Gina Carano needs to learn how to comedy and keep a straight face. The others were at least professional and did good comedic performances with what they were given.

While the MSM licks Biden's old saggy ball sack, and rejoices in his puppeteers every move, the mainstream late night TV entertainment wing for the Democrat party, trashes any conservative in any direction. the hivemind laughs and claps on Q.

I guess I missed that part.

Thank you for watching this so we don't have to. Not that we wanted to anyway.

William বলেছেন...

As I understand it, Gina Carano got cancelled for using an inapt metaphor. You would think that the good people of SNL would recognize their class interest and make a mockery of the people who cancelled her. For whom the bell tolls. They did take a shot at Disney. The sympathies are there but not yet fully acknowledged. Perhaps someday a new young group of irreverent comedians will come along and make fun of the stupidity of the left as exemplified by the pious SNL establishment.

Mark বলেছেন...

The news segment on Cruz was even better... the line that it was his wife's idea to blame his daughters was the biggest laugh of the night.

That Leslie Graham quote about killing Cruz on the Senate floor comes to mind. It also reminds me that those taking offense here need to revisit that quote for perspective.

Your team already said worse about him.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves বলেছেন...

Gina Carano was fired because she is conservative.

Matt বলেছেন...

Imagine not being able to make fun of trannies in the United States of America.

Gina Carano did nothing wrong (I know she got fired for the comment about Jews but the die was already cast when she made fun of the "pronouns" that trannies and their fetishists are so adamant about). F*ck the left.

Matt Sablan বলেছেন...

Be careful how you explain things. When you say her "comment" about Jews, you're makin git sound like she was saying something like Israel should be pushed into the sea, or talking about how the Jews own Hollywood and politics, or suspecting people of dual loyalty.

What she said was, hey, before the Nazi government could engage in wholesale slaughter of the Jews, the people of Germany had to be convinced it was ok to ostracize people and use political violence against them. So, maybe we shouldn't make it OK to ostracize people and use political violence against them.

Unlike yesterday's link to HBO, I see SNL and I can't even click to watch one second of it. SNL's comedy has a bit of hatred laced in it which becomes to recognizable and ruins any chance to enjoy it. It's like watching someone make a racists joke. You can see the comedy of it, but it is also impossible to ignore the hatred in it.

I accidentally pulled a quote from the wrong place for my first response. Woops.

I'm not SNL's target audience, and I still found that skit... surprisingly good for what I expect to be SNL-quality. I think they didn't realize how sympathetic they made Gina Carano in the draft at first, but that both the Nazi and Disney having the moral high ground lines were legitimately good, that they just decided to make her "generic bitch" later in the segment to remind the audience they weren't supposed to like her... but then they had her direct it at Ted Cruz, who the audience is ALSO supposed to hate. It felt like the writers, instead of deciding to go with a good comedic set up (people apologizing for things that don't make sense), they bungled it in the draft phase. It probably could have been saved if they had more time, or more willingness to challenge their actual audience's assumptions.

I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't the original script before the NBC Zampolit's took a good look at it and ordered changes.

mikee বলেছেন...

SNL. Time magazine. NY Times. New Yorker magazine. The memories of when they mattered are becoming harder and harder to recall, as they sit like insects in amber, forever unchanged but completely separate from current reality.

Matt Sablan বলেছেন...

Writing comedy is hard. It's, what, a 10-minute or so skit, and several average to good jokes land. Given their schedule limitations, this is actually *pretty good.* Even the telegraphed jokes (like the subliminal message one; don't tell me you didn't expect to see that message flash) were, on average, delivered well. Like SNL or not, the guy doing Cuomo took the material he was given and did it as well as could be expected.

Though, I will admit, I am an easy grader.

This is part of the dehumanization that the left are going through. They literally ignore those deaths, and focus on the hero (sic) Coumo. The right are falling into that propaganda trap.

They are continuing to dehumanize the right, conservatives and republicans. This is the same propaganda that led to the Germans dehumanizing the Jews, to make them objects to be loathed. The left, the media and tech companies (Disney, et al.) are demonstrating every day.

AZ Bob বলেছেন...

Soft jabs at Coumo and thus, no humor.

wildswan বলেছেন...

The attack on Disney was surprising. I hesitate to repeat the "joke" which was about moving corpses - which is a crime so this was a joke, right? Overall, the joke was about death - which isn't all THAT humorous as a topic, at least to me. In addition, "Cuomo" said NYC had restored indoor dining. This is February and he's letting people eat inside. The average temperature in NYC in January is between 28 and 39 degrees and in February it's between 23 and 41 degrees. Cuomo has been making people sit outside in that cold if they want to do elegant sit-down "dining" a la NYC. The pathetic SNL audience cheers on hearing the he'll a few of them come in from the cold. "Send me your cold with their chill-struck meals/ Your huddled and shivering masses/ Yearning to breathe without a mask/ I lift my self-aggrandizement/ Beside the open door./ And, PS, I'm not opening the schools for the majority of the minorities. NO!!! Different. Joke on SNL about that? Death is funnier and safer.

My wife and I still watch SNL, even though I don't particularly care for it anymore. Just a Saturday night routine, I guess. I agree with the comments that the writers' disdain is so pronounced that it is hard to find humor in most of their political/current event skits, which is the primary reason to watch. You would think consistently casting women to play Republican men would constitute some kind of micro aggression, but apparently rules like that only tilt one way. I feel like the SNL skits used to be a little more balanced, and would poke fun at all sides. It is all good fun when everyone is getting their share, but when they are consistently poking fun at only one side it comes across as mean-spirited and honestly kind of pathetic.

The comedian who plays Ted Cruz also does a lot of other characters and they all have one thing in common. The exact same gesticulations.

Your team already said worse about him.

What is this "team" of which you speak? What constitutes a "team"? Am I required to be on a "team"? Are there prerequisites to joining a "team"? And if I get to join a "team", what are the putative benefits? Are you on a "team"? If so, how is that working out for both you and your "team"?

Shorter Skippy Tisdale: Stupid cunt.

Darrell বলেছেন...

Gina Carano re-Tweeted a post. Nothing more. SNL is too stupid to follow the facts. And everything about that skit was wrong. Gina doesn't sound like a truck driver. The SJWs on Twitter do call everyone that disagrees with them Nazis.

Lurker21 বলেছেন...

Is it weird that Ted Cruz gets more grief for taking his kids on a family trip to Mexico than Bob Menendez did for going to the Dominican Republic to visit prostitutes, possibly underaged?

Even if you believe that the Menendez allegations were disproved, there are an awful lot of people in Congress who have done worse than Cruz.

The impeachment would have collapsed sooner if commentators had listed the offenses that those making the case for impeachment had committed: Schiff, Swalwell, Jeffries.

Gunner বলেছেন...

I think the "women playing Republican male politician" thing is reparations for all the times SNL cast a man to play an ugly woman (Oprah, Star Jones, Janet Reno etc.)
