Ella Emhoff, the style icon.

I totally approve. The best of the inauguration (Daily Mail).

So grimly fun and playfully in-your-face. I feel resonance with the old hippie movement.

Emhoff is a design student at Parsons so it must be presumed that this is all quite intentional, not just something she geekily stumbled into. Ah, yes:

Speaking to Vogue, Ella, who is in her final year at the Parsons School of Design in New York, explained how she had the bespoke look made. 'My mood board was very “little girl,” in a sense, a lot of scalloped collars and big silhouette shoulders and small buttons. 'I was going for something girlier, to embrace my feminine side — especially after that suit that I felt so great in — because, like, how many times do you prepare yourself to attend an inauguration? This momentous of an event deserves a momentous outfit,' she said.

She's studying textiles, specifically knitwear, and wants to have her own knitwear business. Great! I wish her big success.

Here's her Instagram page, for lots more pictures.

It only took 24 hours for the media to fall back in love with non-American fashion designers. Not that gauche foreign stuff, worn by that charwoman Melania.
What I read yesterday was the Harris administration brought back into vogue, the great American fashion. I was never under the impression Harris was going to ignore foreign designers, while finishing of her term

It's a beautiful kitchen, and I think it's fine to be forthright and not pretend she's not a rich girl. She's casual about material things.

Politics aside, I like Emhoff's approach to fashion. Melania and Ivanka left me cold. They were *trying* to be cold, I believe, so I credit them with success. Their message felt like: We can do this but you can't. The plastic surgery, the over-worked hair, the mask of makeup. It's liberating to get Emhoff strolling onto the stage after them.

This isn't hippie though or maybe just the Hollywood version of it. I think you are remembering mod. Hippie would never be so self-conscious.

--- ... and not pretend she's not a rich girl. She's casual about material things. [AA]

Aren't almost all subsidized kiddies casual about material things? They usually have little or no idea what it takes to earn them in real life.

In this specific case, for someone like Ella and all the friends who observe her and her life, the importance of becoming politically connected may be the main lesson they draw, if they draw any. There's even a name for it in the DSM: Nan Pelosi Syndrome.

The problem is, these subsidized kiddies start making political decisions and commitments of their own. Ella, in days to come; and beyond her, so so many of the children of our unmatched affluence. They begin to assume everyone should have access to similar material things (similar, but not as good). Correction, they assume everyone of whom they approve while looking faintly down upon for their inferior economic status should have access to similar, but definitely not as good, material things.

And so they vote Democrat, imagining that that is a better world. And knowing that that is the way to insider rewards.

So, white woman steals the show from "black" woman?

Anyway, Melania's worst is better than this woman's best (if this is her best).

Unlike this person, Melania was the model immigrant. But she wasn't nice and quirky, in the way that nice conformist American women, into "fashion," would like to think of themselves as quirky.

Let's all imagine what the MSM and Althouse would have said if Melania had worn such an outfit.

"Ice princess pretends to relate to ordinary people." "Glamour model trying too hard." "What, now the Trumps are trying to look deplorable too?" "Cultural appropriation." Etc. etc.

Once the feds took over student loans and the colleges knew there was a spigot of cash out there, the cost of college took off like a rocket.

Make the colleges accountable for some of that money. They should be co-signers to the loans. If your little precious can't pay it back, let the schools kick in some.

Plus, she really needs a hair stylist, or, barring that, a comb. About the Instagram photo with the armpit hair and the hideous chartreuse checked bikini, the less said the better. But I'm someone who loved the way Melania dressed: always elegant, understated, and ladylike. always respectful of her audience Melania was the first genuinely glamorous first lady we'd had since Jackie Kennedy. And she was even more beautiful than Jackie.

I'm old enough to remember hippies. Hippie clothing was awful: Garish colors, saggy bellbottoms, piled-on neck chains and bangle bracelets, moth-eaten boas, rumpled hats, ugly tie-dye--and don't forget the vests! And the headbands! See Janis Joplin as prime exemplar. The one saving grace that hippies had was that most of them were young, so there were a lot of good-looking (although shaggy) men and pretty girls underneath that getup.

From my experience sending two boys to an expensive private college, I'd say about 5- or 6-x.

So it wouldn't really impact your life if you make $500-600k.

"270k followers. Almost 30k likes for that post. She must be doing something right."

Yes, there are people who are ugly that nearly all people consider ugly. Fran Leibowitz, Eleanor Roosevelt.

She is certainly not pretty to the normal median aged American male, and as I stated, if she were walking down the street, she would not merit even the slightest turn of the head.

Melania is the one who pulls off liberation and weirdness best. I’ll take Girl from Ipanema vibe over “stinky folk concert.” She probably had enough with enforced dowdiness in her Communist bloc youth. No 100K per year Parsons degree, no millionairesse on the public dime playing little orphan shopgirl in a 5K coat, no nasty old mittened socialist with three houses paid for by us. Just a mom who worked in a textile factory, made her own clothes — and modeling career — and speaks more languages than an entire stage of Democratic female leaders with fistfuls of elite degrees.

Melania’s blue outfit on Election Day in 2016 beat the heck out of the army of monotone coat-dresses this time. At least we see less of Michelle Obama’s weird outfits. I know this is a minority view here, but I think Obama is an attractive woman. But mid-thigh iridescent boots under a mess of yellow drapery? I wish somebody talented had dressed her once in a while.

In Melania, it was also refreshing to see someone who clearly wanted to leave Washington DC, for a change.

"Are we taxpayers going to be asked to pay back the loans of students who went to schools like that? And will families that came up with the money out of their own funds feel ripped off? How much do you need to make a year before you're comfortable paying $100,000 a year to send your daughter to college?"
My youngest daughter went to one of the better art schools in California. And the only reason she did is because she could live rent free at her sisters house. It was still a sacrifice for us but she graduated without any debt. I'm resentful as hell at the thought that I and many other responsible taxpayers will be paying for other peoples college degrees.
One thing I noticed while my daughter was at art school. Basically two kinds of students. Those with passion and no talent and those with drive and plenty of talent. A lot of the former were children of wealthier parents indulging the kids passion. The girl above reminds me of one of those.

I take a break for a few days and I come back to this pitiful nonsense.

I'm not sure if I'm more disappointed at the idea of Althouse genuinely ushering back in the era of "let's all lick Democrat asshole and pretend we're eating ice cream cones!" or her pretending to so she won't get cancelled.

Peace back out, y'all.

Oh Lord, Pants. I read your post and felt a cool breeze waft over the landscape.

I have to be circumspect, and don't want to associate you in anyway with the 'Petition for the Address of Grievance' at our 'citadel' of 'Democracy' a few weeks ago. The petition was rejected before it could be heard. That's where we are. Just as our 'courts' refused to hear our petitions.

It always comes down to mud and blood in this world. Sometimes a breeze comes up. Soldiers turn their faces up to it, to revel in it.

Here's what I know about Ann Althouse. She's measured. I cannot fault her. I don't think she cares if she's cancelled. I don't know her. I've never met her.

The truth is in the cool breeze that wafts over a soldier's face.

In this world. Not of it.

Ella Emhoff is Kamala Harris’ 22 year old step daughter.
8 days after the Inauguration she suddenly lands a modeling contract with IMG Models.

remember! she did NOT get the modeling contract 'cause of nepotism; she got it because of her Poise, and Deep Beauty!
