Biden says: "The fact is systemic racism touches every facet of American life, and everyone — no matter your race or ethnicity — benefits when we build a more equitable America."

That's a tweet.

I think it's unlikely that Biden wrote this himself. Has he internalized critical race theory ideology? I wonder if he even read this, and, if he read it, if he understood it.

If he understood it, did he understand what it says about his own ascendancy in American political life? I don't see how he could possibly believe what he's tweeting and not feel certain that his presidency is a consequence of systemic racism. He did choose Kamala Harris as his Vice President, so maybe he's got it all figured out, and I will win my bet that Biden will oust himself from the presidency by March 1st.

ADDED: Here's the transcript of the racial equity speech Biden gave yesterday. Video here. Let's read:

In my campaign for president, I made it very clear, that the moment it arrived as a nation, where we faced deep racial inequities in America and systemic racism that has plagued our nation for far, far too long. I said that over the course of the past year that the blinders have been taken off the nation, the American people. What many Americans didn’t see or had simply refused to see couldn’t be ignored any longer....

One of the reasons I’m so optimistic about this nation is that today’s generation of young Americans is the most progressive, thoughtful, inclusive generation that America has ever seen. And they are pulling us toward justice in so many ways, forcing us to confront the huge gap in economic inequity, between those at the top and everyone else, forcing us to confront the existential crisis of climate. And yes, forcing us to confront systemic racism and white supremacy.

It’s just been weeks since all America witnessed a group of thugs, insurrectionists, political extremist and white supremacists violently attack the capital of our democracy. And so now, now’s the time to act. It’s time because that’s what the faith and morality calls us to do....

We’ve never fully lived up to the founding principles of this nation, to state the obvious, that all people are created equal and have a right to be treated equally throughout their lives. And it’s time to act now, not only because it’s the right thing to do, but because if we do, we’ll all be better off for it for it.

For too long, we’ve allowed a narrow cramped view of the promise of this nation to fester. We’ve bought the view that America is a zero sum game, in many cases....

[W]e need to make the issue of racial equity... the business of a whole of government. That’s why I issued in one of the first days, my whole government executive order that will, for the first time advance, equity for all throughout our federal policies and institutions.... Today, I’ll be shortly signing an additional package of executive actions to continue this vital work.....

And the simple truth is our soul will be troubled as long as systemic racism is allowed to persist. We can’t eliminate… It’s not going to be overnight. We can’t eliminate everything, but it’s corrosive. It’s destructive. And it’s costly. It cost every American, not just who felt the sting of racial injustice. We are not just a nation of morally deprived because of systemic racism. We’re also less prosperous. We’re less successful, less secure. We must change. And I know it’s going to take time, but I know we can do it.

And I firmly believe the nation is ready to change, but government has to change as well. We need to make equity and justice part of what we do every day, today, tomorrow, and every day, I’m going to sign these executive actions to continue the work, to make real the promise of America for every American. Again, I’m not promising we can end it tomorrow, but I promise you, we’re going to continue to make progress to eliminate systemic racism in every branch of the White House and the federal government is going to be part of that effort.

C'mon everyone, all the Progs want is FAIRNESS. "Equity" is simple - if you have less of something that you should have, you clearly need more of whatever it is that is lacking. If you have more of that something that someone needs, you clearly (being a good American) have more ability. So you should give more - because of your ability - to those who have less, due to their need.

Summarized, the Progressive idea of "equity" is nothing more than that all-American idea of "to each according to their need, from each according to their ability".

To me, saying that something is "systemic" means that it's deeply embeded, universal, and overwhelming. If racism were truly "systemic" in the United States of America, it would factor into virtually every choice made by pretty much every person constantly. Like, if you were deciding between a sandwich or a salad for lunch, you're decision would be based around what a person of another race would have.

We really have systematic poverty, that happens to affect African Americans at a higher rate than white. Plenty of white people fall victim of this same system.

Why can't we talk about the marriage penalty that affects lower-income working Americans of every race. Less marriage ends up being less social capital for children that born working parents that don't have the same social stability as their upper class peers.

It's easier to just add a diverse number of students at Yale or Harvard and call it equity, rather then tackle real public policy and reforms.

"We really have systematic poverty."

Every country has a poverty problem, that is in fact relative.

We really have a systematic poverty problem that's so bad tons of people climbed out of it.

We really have a systematic poverty problem poor white don't murder each other at 1/5 the rate blacks do.

We really have a systematic poverty problem that other minorities used to be able to beat in 2 generations, but can now do it in one.

We really have a systematic poverty problem that lets Obama head to harvard and then the white house.

We really have a systematic poverty problem which allows black communities to lower every other community's quality of life in every major city in this country.

We really have a systematic poverty problem that cause black children to fail in the education system at a statistically overwhelming rate compared to their peers.

We have a lot of problems in this country, but systematic poverty is not the black community's real problem.

Systemic racism is American blacks having an average IQ of 86. So they don't do well against tests that mimic IQ tests, like lieutenants' exams, if you do statistics to discover that average.

Otherwise you might not notice. There's lots of population overlap.

If you convince blacks that it's whites holding them back, they quite reasonably develop a chip on their shoulder that actually prevents them from getting a job they'd otherwise do fine with, no matter how smart they are.

It's a very selective harm. Whites are pretty much unaffected either way.

So "far too long" is "just been weeks"? That's his evidence of systemic racism? I'm going to ignore the various videos that show people of various ethnicity (including the Capitol police officer with a MAGA hat) involved a few weeks ago.

We’ve never fully lived up to the founding principles of this nation,

A few weeks ago or never? If never, who has been in government longer, Biden or Trump? Who had 8 years as VP under a black President to act, and only now has decided to act?

For too long, we’ve allowed a narrow cramped view of the promise of this nation to fester. We’ve bought the view that America is a zero sum game, in many cases.

Wow, this is awesome news. Does Critical Race Theory now accept that America is not a zero sum game? Because if it isn't, then there is no equal[ity] sign. I thought the whole argument of "equality" is that it is a zero sum game, and thus if some got more, others must get less. Under President Trump, everyone got more.

[W]e need to make the issue of racial equity... the business of a whole of government.

Oh, so we are back to equality and zero sum games. (and "of a whole of government", who wrote that?)

Biden's been a federal level politician since 1973. Going by his words, he hasn't acted in 47 years and is morally deprived. That's a dumb speech.

This was designed this way. The Great Society was the most destructive piece of legislation in the history of the United States. It fomented the cultural problems that African Americans have - kids out of wedlock, high unemployment, high alcohol and drug use, etc.

So culture is the issue, but the root cause of the cultural problems the country has is white liberals. And as Biden's tweet proves, it's only going to get worse.

I think the crowds will be a skeleton of previous successful years / decades, and it won’t be because of fear of a COVID super spreader event. I don’t think you are going to get the “outside Milwaukee” attendance. You have a 94% increase in the murder rate in 2020.

Milwaukee is now a free for all. Now Wisconsin Liberals and race hustlers have hung a heretic hat on anyone that looks MAGA.

I don’t blame African-Americans. They are just part of the games the elite in Madison play and promote with all this systematic racism bullshit. White elite liberals ratchet up racial tensions for their own gain. The fallout benefits them. It doesn’t affect them. Look a Kenosha.

Again, anecdotal evidence vs. economic evidence. There's still a lot of pain, but for the most part middling to middle-upper middle-class people and above have recovered. The data is there.

The data - ancillary to recovery - does show that poorer people are doing worse, but once again there are GIGANTIC offsets to this that already exist that black people could be making use of and don't while everyone else (including the latin Americans they knowingly or unknowingly are competing directly against).

That community does not and has never done themselves any favors and that's despite absolutely colossal assistance and advice unprecedented in history. They would rather hire 6 of their relatives to work in your local city's Dept. of Revenue. Their business and entrepreneurial rates (one of the big tickets to the middle-class) are atrocious.

They are a population that still believes wealth is something people give you, and that the source of it is the democratic party.

"Race" is a lot trickier to understand, being both nonexistent and all-important.
There are three distinct genetic human populations in the world today. We call them races, and in other animals we call them species.
@11:06

I don’t think that is a fair statement - all living humans are the same species - interbreeding being the criteria for species separation. Breed is more akin to what you are saying. Humans are no different from any other living creature and others we see around us - cats and dogs being the most obvious - have wildly different aspects in breeds that no one can deny. If them - why not us? It certainly explains why some groups have more general talents in one aspect and fewer in the other. But that is verboten to even discuss meaning it’s an elephant in the room level issue.

And it blows the “equality” goal apart.

Biden Executive Orders

In this article Biden refers to the order eliminating CRT as ending "diversity training". There's a lot going on in this mischaracterization but it seems very likely Joe doesn't understand the nature of other people's criticisms because has no idea CRT is any different than unobjectionable diversity training. His ignorance shows he has no interest in reality or resolving conflict, only in advancing hatred which supports hyper-partisanship.

Bolstering this belief is the same article including Biden criticizing the 1776 Project as based on lies even though no one has yet identified any lie material. This is in sharp contrast to the 1619 Project he supports which is so completely based on lies it is unusable even as propaganda unless criticism is completely excised from the debate.

The SAT and GRE are not IQ tests.

They are largely IQ tests for adults raised in the US, and you can fairly accurately convert from SAT scores to IQ, ~80%, which is close to the correlation between one IQ test and another.

Several IQ tests (there are several recognized versions...ones from overseas having more efficacy in my opinion) and the US DOD ASVAB do not weight or over-predict or under-predict anything.

That sounds like you're claiming that either they predict nothing, or they 100% accurately predict things like school grades, number of patents, etc., neither of which is true.

But IQ and SAT etc test do over-predict black performance:

"In fact, as normally used, mental tests are somewhat biased in favor of lower-scoring groups because they over predict how well members of those groups will perform in school and on the job (that is, the tests overstate their future performance)."

"However, perhaps surprisingly the test scores tend to slightly over-predict success in college for black and Latino students, i.e. these students are likely to attain lower freshman grade point averages than predicted by their test scores."

"The evidence includes the following trends: The IQ gap is exacerbated by culturally neutral and g-loaded items and tests; IQ tests do not under-predict and may over-predict Black performance on several criteria (academic achievement, college success, etc.);"

"The preponderance of their evidence suggests equivalent validity of IQ measures across groups. Reynold’s (1980) found that, in such cases where bias did exist, it acted in favor of Blacks, tending to over-predict their performance."

Here's a few more:

"For example, several studies have documented the tendency of the LSAT/UGPA regression model to "over-predict" the performance of minority students during the first year of law school. Similarly, other studies have found that the LSAT tends to over-predict the performance of minority students during all three years of law school, though this tendency is reduced somewhat when UGPA is included in the regression equation."

"2.Differential prediction (American College Testing Program, 1973; Breland,1979; Duran, 1983; Linn, 1982a; Ramist, 1984)
(a)freshman GPA typically over-predicted for Black students
(b)over prediction usually greatest for Black students with above average scores on predictors and negligible for students with below average scores on predictors
(c)over prediction found for Hispanic students, but less consistently and by smaller amount."

Test scores typically over predict black students' college performance (Vats and Bowen, 1998:465–466).

This greatly misunderstands what is going on.

The biggest error in this framing is misunderstanding the third rail. People who pay attention to politics are largely unpersuadable. The third rail is taking an action which causes those who pay little attention to notice and disagree. Biden resigning this early in his term tells everyone in the country his election was fraudulent: that he was always a figurehead to fool them. If this happens Dems will lose the mid-terms and the Presidency in 2024.

Meanwhile Biden will repeat obvious lies for as long as he's there with effectively no repercussion. What do you think the opposition can do to force him from office? Complain he has dementia? His handlers will never put him in position to reveal that and no media figure will report it. If Fox or an independent does some reporting they will be vilified and story never reported inn the left media. The media's Biden Protection Plan is still in effect. They will criticize him for not being left enough, but they will never knowingly take an action which could empower Reps. We saw this with them dropping the VA Governor's racism story and his subordinate's MeToo story. The second he would have been succeeded by a REp instead of a more left wing Dem the story was over.

Along these lines: How about the Tom Cotton Ranger story with Salon rewriting their five year old article proving the current attacks on Cotton are bunk?

It really is astonishing how open the media's corruption is.

Bengal tigers are tigers, but not all tigers are Bengal. Some are Siberian for example. All tigers can intermate. (Tigers and Lions can even intermate) However they are different species. Lions and tigers are definitely different species.

"In biological terms, rather than in relation to nomenclature, a polytypic species has two or more genetically and phenotypically divergent subspecies, races, or more generally speaking, populations

To be more accurate I probably should have used sub-species to be completely scientifically accurate. More importantly however it does equate genetically and phenotypically divergent populations (of which humanity has at least three of) to a sub species or race.

that differ from each other so that a separate description is warranted. These distinct groups do not interbreed as they are isolated from another, but they can interbreed and have fertile offspring, e.g. in captivity.

The different populations of humans were separated by both place and time. Two different waves of emigration out of Africa followed by inbreeding with one or more sub species of Neanderthal (an extinct species of human) and a population that never left sub Saharan Africa)

These subspecies, races, or populations, are usually described and named by zoologists, botanists and microbiologists

Again; subspecies, races and distinct genetic populations are all the same thing.

I think Biden's understanding of systemic racism is probably different from junior Democratic staffers' understanding of systemic racism. He's in his 70's. My guess would be he just sort of assumes Whites are on top and everyone else is on the bottom, the way things were in his youth, and even if he personally doesn't go around lording his racial superiority over everyone else, there's surely bad Whites somewhere else who still do so -- to a first approximation, anyone who opposes him politically -- so they need to be squashed in order to preserve the peace.

This is the man who claimed Mitt Romney was going to put Blacks "back in chains," who said you aren't Black if you don't vote for him. But he was also caught totally flatfooted by Kamala Harris's poorly thought out attack on him for opposing bussing and working cooperatively with segregationists. His thoughts on race are . . not particularly sophisticated. And they are -- as his gaffe about Blacks having to vote for him to be Black revealed -- a lot more focused on his personal political needs in the moment than they are on addressing systemic racism, real or imagined. Systemic racism getting turned against him as a weapon? That's a problem for future Biden to worry about. And future Biden probably won't even remember that he gave a speech about systemic racism in the first place:

“I would never say this,” Biden once snapped at an aide, aghast over the prepared remarks he was reviewing, according to a person in the room during a speech prep session last year. “Where did you get this from?’”

The aide explained that Biden had just said it in a public speech a couple of weeks earlier.

I happen to think it's mildly bad form to call yourself, or allow yourself to be called, an Army Ranger unless you've served in the Regiment. But the usage is out there. It's common, as the now-disappearing headlines about the first female Army Rangers reflect.

Cotton's presumption is just a bit like going around insisting on being called Doctor because you hold a non-medical doctorate.

So I'd kind of like to see a Venn diagram of Salon journalists who angrily defend Doctor Jill Biden, and who think it's akin to stolen valor for Tom Cotton to refer to himself as an Army Ranger when he earned the tab, but never wore the scroll.

The Dems unwillingness to address this problem is why we have race preferences and CRT. The deal Dems offer minority parents is that while they cannot offer an education they promise to their kids jobs anyway. Some of these will be in government, but as those jobs fill they will create new departments and offices in academia. Thus we have grievance studies and diversity offices. Now that those jobs are full they are trying to recreate the diversity office model in corporate America. False and false. They don't predict anything 100% because two IQ tests will give different results. Even taking the same test twice will give different results.

You're also claiming that all the statements about prediction, in the links I provided above, are baseless and incorrect. Good luck with that.

IQ scores predict school and job performance, especially potential performance, and also things like health, life-span and obesity, but less accurately.

SAT and GRE are not IQ tests. MOST tests are not IQ tests. They correlate, they are not indicative. Mensa does not accept the SAT or the GRE, they accept their IQ test.

Wrong again. And again. You're not even trying*.

"Rather than taking the Mensa Admission Test, nearly two-thirds of Mensa members join by submitting evidence of scores from prior intelligence testing. We accept scores from approximately 150 different standardized intelligence tests, and often potential members have taken a test we accept without realizing they already qualify for membership."

Acceptable tests:
ACT Composite taken prior to 9/1989
GRE taken prior to 5/1994
LSAT** taken prior to 1982
PSAT prior to 1993.
SAT various dates.

Since the 1990's the Powers that Be have made those tests easier so that the highest scores plateau around IQ 130, which is too low for Mensa, but those tests still differentiate lower IQ scores.

they accept their IQ test.

Besides the tests listed above, Mensa accepts military tests and standard IQ tests administered by a psychologist, not just their own tests.

Systemic racism means that the black community has not risen as in the last three generations the Hispanics and the Asians have; and didn't rise in the three generations before that as the Irish, Poles and Jews did; and didn't rise before that because of slavery. The big picture. The question is: can the black community now rise without its members, finally, getting a good education. For example, how can its members get into STEM courses in college unless they get into college -- having taken calculus? Yet in the big Dem run cities 40% of the young black men don't get a high school degree and only five per cent of all who started, men and women alike, take calculus. And, right now, in those same big cities the teachers are refusing to to open the schools - no graduates and no calculus. That means even more young members of the black community don't get a high school degree. And the Dems are saying it's OK. That's systemic racism.
What do the big city Dems funded by the teachers unions say about themselves and their rotting schools? They call Trump voters systemic racists.
Trump voters support ways out for these trapped young members of the black community, ways for them to get an education - charter schools, vouchers, home-schooling. If we took a thousand diversity course we'd only become more convinced that the members of the black community need a good education and aren't getting it. And diversity education for white suburbanites in place of open schools teaching calculus for the inner city students is a mask for systemic racism.

Joe Biden's incoming Asia policy czar was a top leader at a nonprofit group that was bankrolled by the head of a Chinese propaganda front group and partnered with a Chinese foreign mission.

Hell, I dunno. Maybe China is in charge. Certainly influential at any rate.

Isn't it more like graduating medical school without practicing medicine?

More like US Navy Hospital Corpsmen being authorized to wear USMC uniforms with their Navy rate on the sleeve when they're assigned to a USMC infantry regiment. If we listened to what the turds at Salon say they'd be guilty of Stolen Valor because they're not really Marines. But if you ask a Marine grunt he'd tell you how glad he is to have Doc around regardless with which uniform he's wearing.

Chuck Schumer went to Harvard Law, graduated, and never practiced. I believe (could be wrong)that he never took the bar exam either. What is the point of that?

I don't know much about Mensa, but I have significant academic and professional experience in IQ testing. One of my dissertation chairs is widely considered an expert in cognitive testing .

I am glad you set the record straight. There is a huge amount of misinformation about cognitive testing. Ironically, it is the closest to "settled science" that social science gets. However, SJWs have wanted to cancel it for the last 50 years because it does not produce the results they want.

Correlation/causation is debatable but I'd say the soft economy is related to the tweet in this post.

Systemic Racism is Marxist thought. An American shouldn't adopt it.

Don't let Marxists define what words mean. Even the gullible useful idiots in America.

What we should do is work towards where a little bit of racism is just fine as long as it doesn't directly harm someone. Those people fixated on racism from 100 or 500 years ago have mental issues. They can solve them by becoming a state ordered Buddhist.

Question for those here with expertise in IQ tests: If there is such a thing as hybrid vigor--that is the phenomenon where the hybrid takes on the most vigorous characteristics of each species--and most black are part white, wouldn't the IQ differences between blacks and whites be minimal? If IQ is hereditary and whites have higher IQ's, why wouldn't blacks with white forebears inherit the IQ of their white forebears? Or is high IQ not hereditary--which argues against your original position......I'm not sure but I have a low, intuitive sense that culture is more important than IQ in shaping one's success in life......In a financial sense, I've been mildly successful in life. Probably more than I deserve given my lack of character. In a sexual sense, I never got laid nearly enough during my peak years of horniness. I attribute this not to my lack of character--which actually should be an asset in such pursuits--but rather to the Irish Catholic culture in which I came of age.

Do you really think they would impeach him? Because I don't. No one is going to impeach him because it would so give the game away that the Dems wouldn't be able to hide from the aftermath.

Either Biden will have to step down on his own, or blatantly show his mental faculties have failed, or he'll have to die in office.

According to Wikipedia, one of them not mentioned on your abbreviated list:

The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is a standardized test used both for graduate school admissions in the United States and entrance to high I.Q. societies.

Back in the day, when I was looking for a smart wife, the only MENSA tests I qualified for were the MAT and the Army GCT (taken prior to 10/1980, after which it was apparently dumbed down).

AWent to a MENSA meeting in Manhattan but was not impressed with the pickings. The prospective wives likely had the same reaction to me. Then a gay guy tried to pick me up.

Eventually married a compassionate psychologist who keeps me around as a study specimen.

Harris plus the Democrats in Biden's Cabinet can kick off an Amendment 25 removal.

But it takes a 2/3 vote in the Senate to get rid of him if "Dr Jill" isn't willing for him to go.

So, ask yourself this: What would "Dr Jill" be willing to agree to, to get to keep on bing "First Lady", and Joe's chief programmer?

What would the GOP demand, in order to leave Joe in, and Harris out?

It would take 17 GOP Senators to pull Joe, so the usual suspects aren't enough.

Joe could easily stay in until he dies, or 4 years, whichever comes first

Joe Biden is an inspiration--against all odds, the poor black child overcame systemic racism to become President of the United States.

I figure he'll make it to his first WH birthday bash (Nov) at most; the 1st March date will be extended unexpectedly.

I qualify by my 1972 ACT score, but I haven't joined any kind of club since the Boy Scouts. However the $38(?) dollars it costs to get an official copy of an old ACT score might be worth it since but Geico gives a discount for Mensa members (might be fake?)....because IQ predicts not wrecking your car.

Or is high IQ not hereditary--which argues against your original position.

Variance in adult IQ in the US is about 80% heritable, and Steve Hsu has published some approximate results which indicate that
child IQ ~= (average-of-the-parents IQ + IQ of the parents' population)/2,
where the population usually = race. So two white people, with IQs of, say, 120 and 140, would have an average kid with IQ ~= ((120+140)/2 + 100)/2 = 115, which is dumber than either parent. For two US black parents of 120 and 140, the average kid would be around 110.
See: "regression to the mean".

Browndog said...

Reading through the comments I see too many are using the term equality and equity to mean the same thing.

This is by design--they sound the same, and your mind, conditioned by marxist for a generation, automatically thinks "equality".

Fernandinande said...

Whoops, 107.5, not 110. These seem like small differences, but for a large population they predict big differences in the "tails" of the IQ distribution.

Before posting I changed the parents IQ from 120+150 to 120+140 to reflect the Obama kids (he might be 140, but not 150), but his "population" IQ would be (100+85)/2 so their average child IQ = 109 = almost college material.

mockturtle said...

Browndog, that was my point @9:54 AM. It's easy to see why propaganda is so successful in a supposedly educated nation. Equality vs. equity is the difference between opportunity vs. results. In other words, let's take from those who worked hard for what they have and give it to those who haven't--just because. Instead of leveling the playing field, let's make sure everyone gets the same trophy.

Richard Dolan said...

As Biden moves from rhetoric to action on his 'equity' program, I suspect he will be on the receiving end of much push-back from the courts. As many have pointed out, equity in Biden's sense (accepting for present purposes that he understands what he is talking about) is predicated on treating some better than others using racial and ethic criteria to discriminate between favored and disfavored classes. That's likely to be DOA in the courts, with not a few judges quoting CJ Roberts' statement that the way to stop discriminating on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of face.

During Trump Time, immigration was the main political issue that was essentially moved into the judicial forum, and the courts made a mess of it while constantly enjoining the executive until SCOTUS stepped in. During Biden Time, it looks like it will be race and the green new deal (although the first policy to be enjoined was an immigration one), as those objecting to what Biden is doing bring their cases in venues they think will be friendly to the claim. So good bye DC, Ninth and Second Circuits; hello Fifth, Sixth, Eighth and Tenth.

IQ is mot determined by just one thing.

!. Genes
2. Childhood AND pre-natal nutrition
3. Culture
4. Drug use- it will cause a cognitive decline.
5. And probably some others.

And- IQ does not determine success in life. It's a factor to success in some fields. Not the only factor, but a factor. But both too high and too low an IQ are a detriments to success.

What causes success? Nobody really knows. There are a few rules for success in life that seem to be universally acknowledged.
1. Don't get pregnant (or get someone pregnant) before marriage.
2. Don't get married until established in a job.
3. Don't have children after marriage until you can support them.

Now some people achieve success from other ways, for example, Hunter Biden. Your daddy gets to be a powerful senator, and you can make millions while being a druggie and being totally unqualified for the jobs you were "hired" for.... and, without a court martial after popping positive on a drug test in the Navy after < 6 months service.

I met my wife at work (psych hospital) and scoffed at her for being a member of MENSA because I had far higher GRE scores. However our WAIS scores were identical. We divorced after 30 years probably because we were so intellectually competitive.
