Have you noticed this?

Just a little experiment of mine.

I did not notice, so thanks for the pointer.

Before the China virus, I might have listened while I commute. Now I work from home, so I don't listen so much. When I do listen, I have an Audible subscription.

I prefer reading your blog to listening, because it is faster and it has the comments. You have better commenters than either Instapundit or Powerline.

I can't imagine how you can do the moderation, I would give up in a week. I once accidentally clicked on "Email followup comments" and my inbox was overwhelmed. You have that for every single post!

So, thanks again for all that you do.

Thanks for pointing us in the right direction on this. I look forward to listening.

No. Ann joins Joe Rogan and Hillary Clinton in the podcast world.

Here's an insight. Nick Bahe is a former Creighton basketball player who used to have a 5 day a week AM sports talk radio show. He also does college basketball on TV. That was a conflict on his schedule.

He quit the radio show and now does two pods a week at about 60 minutes. Within a year, he totally replaced his AM radio show income.

Bahe is a super great basketball analyst. I always agree with him. Jesuit educated. Smart guy.

5M - Eckstine বলেছেন...

Interesting. Who dubs in the commenter voices? I'll try it out.

Howard বলেছেন...

No. Do you have guests?

Shane বলেছেন...

Good for you! I'm always looking for a new reasonable podcast, even if it is not Beatles-centric. I'll listen as soon as I can find a way to download or search for it, if not through iTunes.

Please give a tech=capable partial Luddite a hand on how it can be downloaded if not through iTunes.

Best as always, Shane

Sam L. বলেছেন...

Nope. Not a podcast guy.

Christy বলেছেন...

Exciting idea. I, however, wouldn't use it. I saw no way to speed it up. Your ideas demand more attention than I can give them while doing chores and the slower delivery of the spoken word demands too much time. Also, you may be the exception, but I find biases come through more clearly and more offensively in the voice than in the printed word.

bagoh20 বলেছেন...

Didn't notice.

I'd listen.

Why the drawing of Sarah Jessica Parker?

wild chicken বলেছেন...

Finally! I was gonna ask...

With no interruptions, I hope.

Patrick বলেছেন...

Your actual voice does not match my imagined voice of you.

Tl;dl.

Needz mor comments.

LOVE!!! the concept. Imma listen...

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

If you listen to the first 2 episodes, you'll understand what I'm doing: Making an audio version of the blog for Meade, who wanted an audible version of the blog to listen to while he works on various things. Meade is not in this episode, but there's some of him in the first 2 episodes.

Alison বলেছেন...

Just followed your podcast on Spotify. Looking forward to listening to you. :-)

This is an Althouse distillation that delights me. From the rhetorical headline sans question mark to the multiple meanings of the tag, the elliptical way the information is presented is perfectly constructed, like a poem. This very brief blogpiece contains the elements and spirit of this project. As a reader who writes I really appreciate the work here. It appears effortless. And it did make me click through.

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

"I prefer reading your blog to listening, because it is faster and it has the comments. You have better commenters than either Instapundit or Powerline."

I think writing and reading is better, but, as noted above, it's something for Meade, but I'm letting others listen in. It benefits me too because I'm reading aloud to proofread and in the process I get some extra thoughts that I didn't write down and I'm interested in what is, essentially, the unwritten part of the blog — extra paragraphs that could have been written. For example, in today's episode, I end up talking about the song "California Girls" as a consequence of reading the Helen Reddy post.

"I can't imagine how you can do the moderation, I would give up in a week. I once accidentally clicked on "Email followup comments" and my inbox was overwhelmed. You have that for every single post!"

I'll have to adjust the settings!

wild chicken বলেছেন...

I got lost with the comments by Victoria and Chuck because they weren't under the Reddy post.

Where did that happen.

Agree, I wish Trump had a clue about CRT.

Maybe Bannon can help him.

Yancey Ward বলেছেন...

"Meade is not in this episode, but there's some of him in the first 2 episodes."

Meade is Fonzie.

wild chicken বলেছেন...

I assume this can be downloaded so I can listen to it without wifi or data?

So new to this.

mezzrow বলেছেন...

I did not. Until now.

Birches বলেছেন...

I would definitely listen to this on the days when I can't read. I'm listening now while making lunch.

traditionalguy বলেছেন...

I am Althouse. Hear me purr.

Pete বলেছেন...

I'm sure I'll be in the minority here but I remember when you vlogged and did those talking head videos. Didn't like it so see no need to subscribe to your podcast.

Thanks for thanking our host. I get a bit annoyed whenever a commenter insults her, or more generally makes his comment about her.
I don't always agree with AA, but she is providing a pretty valuable service for free. It's as if she opened her yard to a bunch of people to come and discuss things, and people started giving her shit for the lawn chairs being uncomfortable. It's just rude.

iowan2 বলেছেন...

I want to get interested in pod casts, right now for some reasons I just wont take the steps to make it happen. Reading is better for me, I'm not as easily distracted. I can follow a book, but when I do podcasts, my mind wanders.
Good look with the additional platform.

Bob Boyd বলেছেন...

How do I download it?

PM বলেছেন...

Good voice.
I heard Meade coughing a couple times in the bkgd. Sounds bad. Hope he's okay.

Listening and reading -- both are great!

If we never hear from him again, then maybe he's Chuck.

"I got lost with the comments by Victoria and Chuck because they weren't under the Reddy post. Where did that happen."

The directions are in the podcast: Click the "I Am Woman" tag and you'll see the other post, from 2008.

Sorry it's not available from iPhone podcasts app. When trying to sign into Spotify from Apple ID it wanted me to turn on the two factor authentication for my device. No thanks.

wild chicken বলেছেন...

When I search spotify I get every Althouse but Ann.

I'd like a home page with her and Rogan.

Jaq বলেছেন...

I guess I will have to clean up my act and grammar.

ALP বলেছেন...

I am firmly in the 'would rather read' camp. I've tried podcasts while working and just can't concentrate on them. I have too much other crap in my head and the podcast just gets pushed to the background and eventually ignored.

But I get a TON of mileage out of Amazon music. Check out Bonny Light Horseman if you are into folk.

wild chicken বলেছেন...

For years I resisted podcasts too but with bluetooth headphones I can be doing all sorts of things without being mentally bored or physically tethered.

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

"Sorry it's not available from iPhone podcasts app."

It will be. Takes some time.

Curious George বলেছেন...

Today is International Podcast Day coincidentally. Or did you know that?

mikee বলেছেন...

There has to be a pony, somewhere, in that giant pile of horse manure, right?

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

"For years I resisted podcasts too but with bluetooth headphones I can be doing all sorts of things without being mentally bored or physically tethered."

I find that podcasts work better with tasks than audiobooks. They're more like company, mellower. Audiobooks — you have to maintain continuous attention. I use audiobooks for long walks or drives, but much prefer podcasts for chores and personal grooming and so forth.

Leland বলেছেন...

I appreciate the podcast. I listened to the 3rd episode for awhile. Still some of the same issues as vlogging, in that it takes a good deal of time, but I agree it is good while working other tasks. My own problem is I'm behind on other podcasts of which I'm already subscribed. Also the Althouse podcast isn't appearing in Google's podcast player, but as noted, that may take time.

Can you front page this with your items on the right side of the screen?

Rick.T. বলেছেন...

It will be. Takes some time.

C'mon, (wo)man!

Wince বলেছেন...

Just a little experiment of mine.

Geeez, you got my hopes up for a Meade-Althouse sex tape.

Jaq বলেছেন...

"I find that podcasts work better with tasks than audiobooks.”

Nothing beats baseball for listening to while working on something, especially if its mechanical. AM radio preferably, with a slightly scratchy signal, it’s like 20 yr old Scotch.

stevew বলেছেন...

This is a podcast I could listen to while driving. It was difficult to hear Meade.

AllenS বলেছেন...

When I'm on the internet, I usually have the radio on (adult contemporary), so I don't want to listen to anything else. I'm reading, man.

Rosalyn C. বলেছেন...

For now I prefer the written blog but I'm willing to try out a few more podcasts. I generally don't like podcasts when I'm focused on something else. Too distracting.

One thing I was wondering about topic wise, which I'd be willing to listen to, is Ann's thoughts about what issue(s) the Supreme Court might be considering in the coming years. Or thoughts about the justices or cases. Thanks.

Marc in Eugene বলেছেন...

Spotify's podcasts are a bit tricky to find, sometimes. Enter the exact title, 'The Althouse Pocast', and there it is.

I doubt I'll listen because I don't much appreciate spoken word audio, but it seems to be a useful way for AA to continue to maintain her enthusiasm for blogging.

stevew বলেছেন...

"Nothing beats baseball for listening to while working on something, especially if its mechanical. AM radio preferably, with a slightly scratchy signal, it’s like 20 yr old Scotch."

Well tim in vermont, you've found something we can agree on! I have noise cancelling bluetooth hearing protection in my wood shop. Love to put on a baseball game (Red Sox, don't hate or ridicule me) while I'm making something. As for the scotch, only after the machines are turned off.

gpm বলেছেন...

Except for Lexicon Valley (which I play in the background while doing other things), I so far don't do podcasts. Like Althouse herself, would rather read a transcript than sit through all the droning. But more power to her if she wants to do this.

Joe Smith বলেছেন...

The sound quality is very uneven. Even at its best it tends to sound thin and a bit screechy...

I'm going to assume you don't sound like that in real life, or else Meade is either a saint or deaf.

Maybe invest in a better microphone or pick another place in the house?

Just a thought...

Ingachuck'stoothlessARM বলেছেন...

maybe a little more authentic ambient sound (and MORE MEADE !)

Like this intro

John henry বলেছেন...

Your list of where to find the podcast doesn't mention the Podcast Addict.

But it's there and I downloaded the last episode

John Henry

John henry বলেছেন...

Wild Chicken,

Podcast Addict automatically shows me every podcast I ams subscribed. So I see, for example, scottadams podcast in my feed as soon as he uploads a new ep.

I can choose to download it or not. So I see a new ep with Scott, a 20-50 word description of what he talks about, guests and so on.

If I want to listen, I click and it downloads. Download takes about 30 seconds.

I don't need a connection to listen.

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

It’s my microphone on my iPad. Meade is across the room. Hence the difference.

Nichevo বলেছেন...

AA, is that vocal fry or do you have creaky old woman voice? There's a remedy, but you'd blush. Let's just say that Kamala Harris will never have that problem.
