Shortly after normal office hours on Friday (08-21-2020) Madison/Dane County Public Health issued an order closing down in-school education for students above second grade at private schools for the upcoming school year — matching the voluntary stance taken by area public schools.

Ignore the order. Hold classes. Call it a protest and the officials can do nothing.
This is just one more of dozens -- hundreds? -- of examples of why the elections in November are going to be one-sided.
Defund the Teachers Union who don't care about our kids. Time to go back to school. If public schools don't open...defund them, and give the parents the choice of where they want their kids to get schooled. Cut out the union...save us money!!!
My daughters are teachers in Georgia public schools in non-union districts. Schools have opened with a choice for parents: On line or in person. About 80% of parents chose on line, but my grandchildren (two high school, one elementary) are in the other 20%. My daughters believe this will be one of the grand kids' best years because of the low student to teacher ratio and more personalized instruction.
Teachers unions are an abomination.

What a chickenshit move by Evers and Dane County government. It is a big F U to the parents, many who are not Catholic, that had to scramble to make alternate plans over the weekend. But I truly expected no less and hope the Republicans in state government will use this to enhance private school options.

This is one of literally thousands of examples over the past 3-4 decades of the teachers unions standing as a barricade to better education for the young in our country. They (the Teachers Unions) show a particularly strong dislike for the Black American community as they continually deny school choice, or fight against charter schools, all the while protecting the worst teachers in their districts, and trying out new, far left or Marxist theories on the young minds.
The results? You get young people with degrees in Women's Studies or Black Studies out of work, putting on black t-shirts and shorts, partially coloring their hair, wearing Darth Vader helmets with football shoulder pads, and flinging balloons filled with poop at Portland Police.
The next time you meed a teachers union rep, thank them for the stellar work they do.

It was Montgomery County, part of the DC metro area. The Montgomery County public schools will stay closed, but the Montgomery County private schools wanted to reopen. The county government tried to prevent them from doing that. The Republican governor of Maryland intervened, twice, to stop them from doing this.
The same story would have possibly played in Wisconsin out in Dane County if Wisconsin had had a Republican governor.

I have been thinking about how this "Public Health Order" thing works. It seems like there are no rules. If the County Public Health department issues an order that all citizens will parade naked in the town square, in alphabetical order with carrots up our asses, well, that is now the law of the land. Strip down, grab a nametag and a carrot, and get to parading. They don't need to convince a panel of doctors, a judge, or anyone else, that parading naked is a needed public health measure, or that it is best done alphabetically with a carrot up your ass. They are "experts", and their word is law.

Are they totally oblivious to how closed schools greatly impact families? How are single parents with young children going to be able to work? Are parents good teachers for school subjects? Mostly not. Do kids miss their school friends? Of course they do. Closed schools for the whole year is a freaking disaster and poses greater risks to kids and families than Covid. How is it possible that a very few idiots can force all this crap down everyone’s throats?

I say sue the Teacher's Union. The money the Teachers Union has comes from dues which originally were property taxes paid to support teachers. But instead of working to keep schools open the Teachers Union has used dues which are property tax money to work to close schools. The Teacher's Union worked to damage education. The Teachers Union hasn't looked into the real risk of death which Covid presents to those under 20 which is zero and the real risk of death to those older which is miniscule until you get people over sixty and of those, only the ones with a serious condition. So schools could open without great risk but the Teacher's Union has lobbied successfully to keep them closed. OK. But get the property taxes that went for Teacher's Union dues back. They weren't voted to fund a campaign to close down the schools. They have been misused.

The fastest way to fix a bunch of social ills would be to give control over educational funds to parents (not the money itself, but control) -- let parents choose how to educate their children, with public money following the child to whatever option s/he attends.

The problem there is capture. Schools are typically run in much of the country by elected school boards, and the unionized teachers seem to capture control over the school boards that are supposed to be overseeing them far too often and far too easily. I remember some reformers getting some seats on the school board for Jefferson County CO, I think the biggest district after Denver (it was where all five of us boys went, and my kid would have, if we hadn’t sent them to a private prep school). We spent the next couple years constantly hearing about how horrible it was that these people were trying to tell the experts how to do their job. The horror - they didn’t even have summer school doctorate degrees (apparently like the one that Jill Biden has). Eventually, after screaming for a couple years, the teachers regained control, and everyone calmed down.
One of the ways that they control the school boards is to have school board elections at weird times. The teachers get their allies to the polls, while most of the rest of the population remains mostly unaware of the elections.
This is why giving the parents at least indirect control over the money spent on their kids is probably a more effective solution to the unresponsiveness of many, esp urban and suburban school districts.

Again, though, this will be a step toward defunding education. Taxpayers are paying for the school building, the local identity, the sports teams and the band. If the money doesn't stay in town, people will start asking why they're paying for someone else's kid.

Wondering whether or not you are homosexual is not an impertinence, merely relevant to the question Michael K raised of whether you can process the fact that the post-Vatican II tolerance/acceptance of homosexual seminarians is chiefly what has led the Church to its current state of ridicule by such persons as yourself.
