Trump admin gets the South Koreans to commit to building an aircraft carrier...while pushing the Japanese to accelerate offensive military capabilities...while Trump also redeploys US troops from ungrateful Putin pawn Germany to more forward locations in Poland and the Baltics!
Do you get fruit from your potted avocados? I have an avocado tree in my backyard that produces dozens of avocados each year. Guacamole freezes well but I still end up throwing a lot of the avocados away.
@Gabriel: If you want to grow your own fruit trees, I've found the best way is to plant 3-5 seeds in individual pots. Then you plant the one that's the healthiest.
I've got a grapefruit tree that I grew from seed this way. Takes patience, but you'll end up with a great tree.

I wish this was groot. If it was, it would have the redeeming value of producing delicious tasty and multi-tasking avocados. And, if it couldn't, would take responsibility for its lack of experience instead of blaming it on white people and its inability to govern the city of Chicago.
So I’m in NorCal for a week and can do whatever I want. Outside of wine country, what do I do? I Wanna see the best redwoods I can though not necessarily get up to the Oregon border. and hopefully get to Big Sur. A nice day of fishing would be great also.
I've run out of watchable Amazon Prime movies. The last dozen I bailed out early, on seeing a really boring plot development coming up. The writers suck.

I recently moved to Naples and was surprised to find out that I have a huge mango tree in the front yard. 1,000 mangos must have dropped from that thing in the last 3 months, I couldn't give them away fast enough. I'm relieved that they're done now.
Looks like LLR-lefty Chuck is going to have put in some big time overtime hours to deflect from this latest lefty disaster in order to protect his beloved Democrat Party.

Due to increasingly squalid conditions on the Upper West Side, including two new homeless shelters packed with junkies and registered sex offenders, longtime dwellers are departing the Big Apple with no plans to ever return.
Crimes committed over the past several days would’ve been unheard of a year ago in the quiet neighborhood that’s home to Lincoln Center and restaurants by Daniel Boulud. A 40-year-old woman was randomly stabbed in the 72nd Street subway station at noon Thursday; a 56-year-old man was sucker-punched while dining outdoors with his wife Wednesday night; photos were posted online of a man masturbating on the steps of the New York Historical Society; and onlookers witnessed an apparent overdose in the aisle of a Duane Reade across the street from the Lucerne Hotel.
I have been seeing an advertisement online that warns that avocado is the unhealthiest fruit or deadliest or poison or something and have been on the verge, a couple of times, of clicking through to see how the patter goes. If I do, and if there seems to be anything to it, I'll let you all know.
Drago I guess it’s kind of touching that you think such a thing would matter. Harris could drop the charges against a child molester in the middle of 5th Avenue and her supporters wouldn’t care.
Seriously, how big a deal has Epstein been, even with Bill Clinton caught lying about being on the island? Nothing.
Probably those 7 year old avocado trees aren't quite mature enough yet. If they are flowering in the spring and not yet outside, then the issue is lack of pollination. Then make Meade useful and have him go around like a bee cross-pollinating between trees with a makeup brush. Very easy to do. You will get fruit. The mechanics of avocado flowering is quite interesting to gardeners like Meade and myself. Others not so much.
Ben does a good job of summing up what he knows about Harris that makes her so objectionable, and it's a quite a list of things. I have a feeling there is much more.
She would be a disaster if she were to become the president. She exploits people. She is a narcissist. She is corrupt. She doesn't have a conscious. She is a natural authoritarian. Her idea of justice is might makes right.
Send the trees to Florida. They will abound there with big green fruit...unless a hurricane gets them first. we get big Florida ones at Publix at 2 forSix Dollars . Florida lemons too. Wife thinks I am great cook by slicing and serving them with lemon juice, salt and pepper.
I usually bring a couple orchids up from Florida to Vermont every year, to remind me of home, and they get droopier and sadder looking as the summer wears on, and when I take them back to Florida, they revive amazingly, but this year my orchid revived here, after seeming to croak when I brought it up in March. I was too lazy to throw it out and then it flowered very nicely.
It’s so hot and dry here that the red squirrels are eating my tomatoes, for the water I’m told. So this afternoon I left a dish of water out for them as a bribe to leave my tomatoes alone. We will see how it works, but other than the last few pole beans, tomatoes, the zucchini, and some winter squash that is coming along, the garden seems mostly passed. This was my first serious garden, and there are many lessons learned and I am looking forward to applying my new knowledge next summer. Next year I think I am going to plant some sweet corn, though I am a little worried about all of the cow corn that is grown around here cross pollenating it, but what’s the worst that could happen?
I got back from camping . I left Sunday. I returned to a dead packrat in a trap on the porch and news that Harris is Joe's pick. When removing the rat, a lizard was close at hand. It feasted on the maggots that spilled out. I already saw one maggot nugget concerning Kamala - the Priest abuse. I'm sure there is more to follow. But I think this was a shrew pick by Joe. Now he is all but assured of keeping California.
I will not be tested, under any circumstances, don't want to encourage the bastards. Besides, I am already "assumed positive" due to my close interaction with a coworker that tested positive and became ill (symptomatc).
It doesn't matter, but I am not an avocado fan, except for guacamole, of course.
So, it looks like John Locke is back from the dead. But it is really the Man in Black. Just like all the while that folks thought they were following Jacob, it was really the Man in Black.
Avocados have pretty new-growth leaves, but they look ratty when the tips turn brown a couple of months before they fall off at the end f their growth cycle. I have 5 avocado trees in So. Cal. 2 Fuerte and a Pinkerton, a Reed and a Haas. That is enough to have good eating avocados year around, but it is more than we can eat. Giving avocados away is a good way to make friends. If I had to have only one, I would take the Reed.
Pollination is important if you want fruit. To make things complicated, there are A type and B type flowers and cross pollination is preferred. The genetics of avocados is also complicated. Each seedling is nearly unique and what king of fruit you get is like rolling the dice. They also send some seedless fruit in the absence of pollination that look like a smal cucumber, which is why they are called “cukes”.
Avocados won’t survive much below 28F, so growing them in Wisconsin must be an inside job.
Ken B: "Seriously, how big a deal has Epstein been, even with Bill Clinton caught lying about being on the island? Nothing."
So true.

The IMDb channel on Amazon has lots of old shows. A few months ago I watched the episode where J.R. was shot. He was deliciously evil. Everyone had a motive to kill him.
Our avocado tree was sprouted out of a pit from a Hass that we put three toothpicks in and rested on top of a glass of water about a year ago. The water touched the bottom of the pit. The tree is now in a planter in the backyard and about three feet tall. Hopefully, we will have better luck with fruit in McKinney, TX than Ann and Meade have in Madison, WI.
Haven’t spent much time here, anyone else suffer loses from the massive derecho Monday? We were coming back from a mini vacation in SW Wisconsin and were unaware until neighbor called and told us our house looked ok but trees were decimated. This is a massive event. Eastern Nebraska to Ohio. 750 miles long, 80 miles wide. Millions of acres of corn flattened, small fraction will be harvestable. No power here, and the are talking another 10,14 days. Mature trees lost is incalculable. No loss of life in Iowa that I’ve heard, so we are still thankful.
Today I drove from Kansas City to Des Moines, then to Gladbrook, IA and back again. From Des Moines to Gladbrook (about a hundred miles) it was just varying levels of destruction. Trees smashed. Cornfields flattened. Power lines down. Grain bins demolished. Roofs torn off. Not everywhere, but if this house didn't have any damage, the next one surely would. No loss of life that I've heard of, but really massive damage. I'm from that area originally and this is the second derecho event in the last 10 years. I'd never heard of such a thing until the first one. It's like a 50 mile wide tornado just marches forward for hundreds of miles.
"RH Hardin said There are a few good free movies but I've apparently seen them all."

A total of 1,543 have died for a 0.33 percentage.
Just remember when you are comparing to to a “bad flu” to adjust your flu data accordingly. No fair throwing in the deaths of 90 year olds to the flu to compare rates with younger people due to COVID.
And remember #OldLivesMatter, and if you bray loudly that they shouldn’t you should remember that #OldLivesVote.
The peace offering for the red squirrel did not work. He ate a perfect sandwich size tomato since yesterday, just the second it was getting ripe. I had been watching that tomato for a couple of weeks now. Looks like it’s time for the air gun.
jerpod, thanks for sharing your experience. I was looking for a fellow traveler to commiserate with. I grew up on a farm and have spent my entire life in small town Iowa talking with farmers in their 80’s or more. None have experienced anything like this event. We did experience this July 11,2011. Corn not yet tasseled, so it had a chance to recover. 2011, the band was only30 miles wide, and maybe 100 miles long.
Now we have one reported death. Cyclist on a trail hit by falling tree.
Now, back to the chain saw. We can function at our place, time to see who needs help.
Iowan2: What a horrible storm. I haven't been watching any news so didn't know about it. Just watched some video footage. Hope at least some crops can be saved [sounds like half were destroyed!]. At least two known dead.
"The squirrels are thirsty and would rather have a bowl of water than the the water that's in you're tomatoes.”
I left them a bowl of water. They still ate the best tomato in my garden after eating the second best one yesterday. Next is a rat trap. I am serious about my home growns on BLTs. They were the whole point of the garden, everything else was just bonus material.

What's the best way to get an avocado seed to sprout?
When I throw them on the compost pile I often find they've sprouted months later but when I try to sprout them on purpose it rarely seems to happen.
Trump admin gets the South Koreans to commit to building an aircraft carrier...while pushing the Japanese to accelerate offensive military capabilities...while Trump also redeploys US troops from ungrateful Putin pawn Germany to more forward locations in Poland and the Baltics!
ChiComs, Russkis and ARM hardest hit.
I hope you're patient. It takes years for a new avocado tree to start producing fruit.
We've got a 5 year old Hass in our backyard, and it's gotten into that phase where we'll have more avocados than we could eat.
Btw, if you agree with Kamala that Joe Biden is a racist sexual assaulter of women, say so!

Now all you need is a tortilla chip bush and a margarita fountain and you've got yourself a party.
Lovely color in the photo btw...

We have a much larger set of 5 avocado plants that date back to 2013. They're nice foliage but never any fruit. I don't expect any.

The squirrels are thirsty and would rather have a bowl of water than the the water that's in you're tomatoes.
Iowan2: What a horrible storm. I haven't been watching any news so didn't know about it. Just watched some video footage. Hope at least some crops can be saved [sounds like half were destroyed!]. At least two known dead.

I left them a bowl of water. They still ate the best tomato in my garden after eating the second best one yesterday. Next is a rat trap. I am serious about my home growns on BLTs. They were the whole point of the garden, everything else was just bonus material.
