Suspending Titania.

The most humorless people in modern history. The left is so busy wringing their hands or pointing their fingers, tossing firebombs at buildings, or drop kicking defenseless, barely conscious people that they simply do not have the time to tell a good joke. I'm sure they're all working on their stand up routines now. And some day, when this is all over, you'll be able to sit in an audience as they tell some very Woke Jokes. And if you do not laugh at the appropriate time, you will be made to understand about Woke Humor.

I see that Twitter also suspended the Babylon Bee because you know- there is satire and there are accursed slanders on Justice Seekers. One cannot question Justice Seekers.

What cannot continue will not continue. This will not continue, and when it crashes down, it'll be spectacular.

But they won't, which will turn out all for the good. Why Wokeness Failed (Patrick Deneen won't mind if we steal his thesis -- it applies to wokeness in spades).

Did Twitter hire Facebook's 'fact checkers'?

60's/70's era Mad Magazine would have been "canceled" per current Twitter standards. Same with much of George Carlin's comedy. Can you imagine ?

Nonapod said...

Twitter is basically a horrendously reeking, burning garbage barge slowly sinking beneath the waves as seagulls furiously screech overhead. There's nothing worth salvaging. It just needs to die.

Sebastian said...

"Silicon Valley nerds need to lighten up."

A little naive.

The nerds are the vanguard in the prog culture war. They fight. They mean to kill the opposition.

Ridicule is one good tactic, but not enough.

Bummer. Titania's powerful reasoning brightened my day.

Gahrie said...

Destroying history, supporting violence and looting, censoring opposition forces and demanding fundamental changes to the nation.... now who does that sound like?

How could a rational person possibly vote Democrat this year? What could Trump do in the next four years that is worse than what the Democrats have done in the last four years?

Birkel said...

Has Althouse recognized her part in this inevitable slide into Leftist Collectivist totalitarianism?

Any remorse RE: Brett Kavanaugh?
Voting for Democratics?
Etc?

Has radical feminism lost its allure?
Are those Che t-shirts mere expression?

Until the people who made this current state of affairs possible rebuke their own contributions to the revolution of society - as they were warned was inevitable - things will get worse.

Gee, you think our president would boycott Twitter in solidarity with Titiana? Do you think anybody using Twitter is going to boycott Twitter?

Naw.

Jack Dorsey is giving you all the finger and laughing about it.

We need to suspend Twitter. If the government can claim ownership of the airwaves, which existed long before humans roamed the earth, we the people can reclaim the internet that was built with our tax dollars.

Yancey Ward said...

There is no intellectual defense of this sort of censorship. None.

I can still reach the Titania twitter feed after clicking through a ridiculous warning page, but it appears to have nothing new since August 12th.

I don't understand how Twitter has not established itself to be a publisher rather than a platform, and therefore liable about what it allows published.

If I had twitter stock, I'd sell it now. The risk is too unknown.

Pianoman said...

It's also a form of religion. James Lindsay (who is an athiest) has written and lectured about this subject. Catch it on YouTube while you still can, because the Woke Taliban may cancel him someday.

Hell, I may get cancelled for using the term "Woke Taliban".

Everyone needs to watch the Joe Rogan/Tim Pool/Jack Dorsey/Vijaya Gadde podcast.

Rogan did this in response to his fans pushback after he had Dorsey on the podcast and Dorsey made the statement that he thought access to Twitter was a 'human right' and that he viewed Twitter as more of a utility than a service.

Rogan's fans wanted to know why Rogan didn't hammer Dorsey on people being banned for unclear/seemingly political reasons. Rogan later apologized and said he didn't because he wasn't up to speed on the issue. Hence the reason freelance journalist Tim Pool was brought on as he does a lot of reporting on this issue.

It's a fun watch. Vijaya obviously doesn't like being taken to task by a dumb jock and nerd. Dorsey spends the whole time looking like he wishes he was somewhere else.

Not sure anyone cares? Several years ago 2017 Jack Dorsey, founder of Twitter, lost interest in its future. That's when Twitter's user growth base went negative. Twitter’s U.S. user base is predicted to grow 0.3% in 2023, meaning it won't budge much and likely drop.

By many accounts, including eMarketer’s predictions, "...the days of massive user growth are over for the big social media platforms..."

Twitter is struggling but Jack Dorsey’s other company, Square, is nearing an all-time highs. Jack Dorsey just mails-in his Twitter's CEO decisions, since he's off managing Square. I really don't understand why approximately 53 million users garner such huge publicity, compared to Facebook, Google, Microsoft, etc.

Most stand up comedians make fun to wokeness. They are the main channel for creating humor about wokeness.

Gahrie said...

The Left is apparently canceling Susan B Anthony as well today.

As much as I dislike the whole cancel culture, if we are engaging in it, why aren't we canceling the Democratic Party? It has more responsibility for racism, oppression and slavery than any person or institution around today. The Democratic Party has been the most successful racist organization in American history.

daskol said...

What a desperate move.

ccscientist said...

Satire is a deadly weapon. In this case a tiny exaggeration of Woke views shows how crazy they are. The Left does not appreciate being mocked. Censorship sucks.

FullMoon said...

The mob can send a million complaints at a moments notice. Whether to youtube, twitter, facebook, or an advertiser on radio or tv. Or your company, for that matter. Social media and internet is full of photos or videos of average people going against the woke crowd, with the intent of identifying the person and embarrassing and harassing them, their family or their employer.

The right has no such organizational skills. Witness all the anecdotal outrage regarding Kapernick kneeling and now all sports figures doing the same, there is no organized boycotts or pushback.

How many here vowed to never watch NFL after the first kneeldown, then went back and watched after a couple of weeks, or less?

I think it's past time to censor and suspend Twitter. This company only exists because of its lies and deceptions. If it hadn't pretended to be something else or almost all of its existence, it wouldn't be here.

Gusty Winds said...

Congratulations American Universities! You taught students that anything they disagreed with was hate speech. Therefore, to censor it, and shut it down, is now an acceptable moral norm. Censorship is much easier than entering a debate you know you can’t win.

DavidUW said...

Trump just needs to simul-post on Parler until enough for there and then cancel his own twitter account. That would kill it.

mandrewa said...

"Silicon Valley nerds need to lighten up."

No, this isn't coming from nerds. This is coming from fascists. It's coming from academia. It's from the culture on the campuses, and overseas. It's not tech people doing this.

Todd said...

I don't think twitter or facebook or any of these social media services should be shut down or cancelled. I do think that people SHOULD move to other more open platforms for these services if you like using these services. That is a sweeter revenge.

Additionally, if these services are going to ACT like publishers then they should be treated like publishers. They are NO longer utilities or "service providers" and should lose their protections.

Parler is not fun. Maybe because you can say anything there, people don't couch their comments in wit or humor. It's just hair-on-fire politics.

When the jokes are completely gone from Twitter, which appears to be its end game, the site will die.

John henry said...

Despicable. Why isn't viewpoint censorship election tampering?

I wonder how much longer President Trump will be on Twitter? Not that I think Twitter will ban him, I don't think they would.

I suspect/hope he might move to another platform like Gab or Parler.

It is interesting that he just started posting on the new Tik-Tok like platform Triller. I'd not even heard of it til I read he has a new account.

Will this replace his tweets?

If he did move to another platform, I think it would seriously ding Twitter

"The Democratic Party has been the most successful racist organization in American history."

Just imagine WWII hits a stalement, Hitler dies but the National Socialists continue to rule. 75 years later, the party occupies the place of the Social Democrats, participates in elections. Voting Democrat is like voting for them.

Not really true. The actual nerds in companies like Twitter and Google are bemused by this kind of stuff. They have to mouth the appropriate cant to avoid a public self criticism session, but the people who are driving this stuff are in management and HR.

Not simulpost. Delay posts to Twitter by an hour or two.

Journalists would be afraid of being scooped and would have to follow parler.

Simulpost only 90 percent of parler posts.

Same reason.

I don't think wokeness advocates realize how weak and lame and fundamentally unserious this kind of action makes them look. It is "persuasion by bullying". I'm not sure how it can be resisted, except by publicly making fun of people who use this tactic.

Nah, the nerds want someone else to do the killing. That's why this all went ape-shit after George Floyd and BLM came on the scene. Nerds want BLM supermen to take out the people the nerds don't like. If BLM walked away, the nerds would quickly follow.

At least she was only suspended. In the movie, "The Lives of Others" that describes life in the former East Germany, a guy in a mid-level position makes a joke mocking the Chancellor, and is next seen working in the equivalent of the Mail Room.

It's a movie that everyone should watch - smart, well-written, with characters (good and bad) that you care about. It's entertaining, other than the creepy sensation that it could actually be a documentary and not "entertainment".

It's weird that Twitter tilts left so much but when you look at the incoming traffic for the Biden campaign website and the Trump campaign website, it's the Trump one that's getting more traffic from Twitter. (Based on Alexa ranking info. There is other traffic that isn't being recorded in this manner, but as a way of looking at a representative sample, it certainly isn't any less valid than polls.)

Nope. They're pulling the same crap over there... apparently some free speech is freer than others I guess. And you need to give phone number as part of the signup. Forget it.

Why not Gab? Yes, some may be freaked out by the seeming lawlessness over there but at least no one does more than tell you you're an asshole and unfollows you.

Rather a shame about Titania. Once I caught on I really enjoyed her posts.
