Herman Cain has died.

My son John collects articles on the subject and gives a warning about Cain's Wikipedia page — "when I checked it today it had been vandalized with disgusting photos."

ADDED: Here's a tweet that has a screen shot of disgusting text put up at Wikipedia.

Not as of 11:25 CDT. I just checked it.

I'd say covid has just driven some people insane or that it's just a tactic but I'm starting to feel like traditional Democrats have created and empowered an army of destructive orcs...mostly without knowing they're responsible.

And if you guys blast me after all the nasty things you said about John Lewis just a few days ago . . . well I expect nothing less from you.

I had my first blue state mask-Karen encounter today- a male one out jogging. You don't need a mask on outside where I am but his one took exception to me carrying it in my hand and decided the best course of action was try and cough on me and call me a 'fucker'.

It probably ran back to his law firm then sat down at the computer to deface Herman Cain's Wiki page...

Cain, the co-chair of Black Voices for Trump, was in a high-risk group due to his history with cancer. Cain's positive coronavirus test came less than two weeks after he attended President Trump's controversial June 20 campaign rally in Tulsa, where he tweeted a picture of himself without a mask.… It's unclear whether Cain contracted the virus at the Trump rally.

That...would not be good for Trump.

Rest in peace, Mr. Cain. You showed what the alternative to racial politics looks like.

Jim Gust said...

Why are leftists such vandals? Have they, in the end, no decency?

R.I.P.

The digital vandals defacing his page have ignored (or never learned) the useful advice of the Romans: de mortuis nil nisi bonum.

From the NYT article your son excerpts:

"Mr. Cain, an unlikely hero of Tea Party conservatives,"

Why unlikely, I wonder?

Never mind. RIP, Mr. Cain.

Joe Smith said...

That is sad...he seemed like a good guy and a genuinely nice person...always optimistic.

When will he be lying in state in the Capitol Building? Will his funeral tour take one or two weeks?

Sarcastic, of course...only politicians and soldiers get to lie in state. You know, our servants? The one's whose salaries we pay?

GatorNavy said...

He had a very diverse career and always was a solid citizen. Our world is smaller without him in it. May he rest in the swift sure hand of God.

I must admit I'm slightly surprised McCain hasn't come back for a few more digs...

Anyone who attended that rally is/was an idiot.

"And if you guys blast me after all the nasty things you said about John Lewis just a few days ago . . . well I expect nothing less from you."

The biggest difference is, Cain wasn't a race-baiting asshole.

He didn’t need the physical courage of John Lewis but he had a boatload of another important kind. RIP.

And Freder? You are disgusting.

Saw him speak at a Chicago TEA party rally back in the day. Those were the days. Dick(less) Durbin! One Big Awful Mistake, America!

Impressive speaker and life accomplishments. Sorry his Presidential campaign couldn't get more traction. And of course sorry he's passed.

"Fredo" writes, "And if you guys blast me after all the nasty things you said about John Lewis just a few days ago . . . well I expect nothing less from you." What were some of those "nasty things," pray tell? The nastiest thing I can think to say is that he was (using the current, bastardized sense of the term), a "liberal"--i.e., a faithful water carrier for Massa State.

"Mr. Cain, an unlikely hero of Tea Party conservatives,"

Mr. Cain was an American conservative who did not indulge diversity dogma (i.e. color judgments). Mr. Cain was an American conservative who appreciated the democratic role of markets to optimally regulate, price, and apportion good and services. Did he also stand up to discrimination by age (e.g. pro-life)? The unholy trinity of American conservativism.

Michael K said...

Freder is just loving it. The left hates blacks who refuse to stay on the plantation.

Inga said...

“When will he be lying in state in the Capitol Building? Will his funeral tour take one or two weeks?”

What had he done to deserve such an honor? He’ll be remembered for his tweet about masks not being mandatory at the Tulsa Trump rally. That’s his legacy.

West Texas Intermediate Crude said...

Anybody who writes about a person who has been seen without a mask and then tested positive for the virus is either woefully ignorant or malicious.
Nobody claims that masking (short of N95) provides any protection from the virus to the wearer.
Yet, worthless inferences as quoted by CJinPA above, are everyday occurrences.
Ignorant and malicious.

Freder Frederson said...

Disgusting? Childish definitely, but disgusting is a stretch.

Temujin said...

Freder- I was not among those who said anything here about John Lewis, though there was certainly plenty to say- both good and bad. He was not a saint. But I did not feel schadenfreude about his death. I felt...humbled. Older. Sad. But I get sad when I hear of most people passing. It makes me stop for a minute and understand how short this life is. It's a reminder to me to get doing what has to be done.

Your comment is that of a classless simpleton. I don't have much more to say about anything to you. It would be a waste of my time of life.

Herman Cain was a good man. Very bright man. He helped so many people in his life, just as John Lewis did. But Herman had love for people, from early on in his restaurant industry years, to the very end. John Lewis had hateful words for anyone on the other side, right up to the end. I never understood how or why he carried that hate for so long.

Just a difference in people. I'm sad we lost both of them. I feel like we were stronger with them both here.

@Inga

Your reading comprehension is incredibly low.

I'm not saying that Cain should lie in state...but neither should that 'honor' be reserved solely for people who WORK FOR US.

Someone like Thomas Edison deserves our admiration and respect far more than any politician...how about we honor people who have actually achieved something?

I'm OK with the general and military figures (especially the Unknown Soldiers), it's the politicians that need to be barred.

@Inga,

He’ll be remembered for his tweet about masks not being mandatory at the Tulsa Trump rally. That’s his legacy.

So what if he did get it at the rally? It's the time of the plague, Inga. People have to make pick what's important for them & make choices. Sometimes those choices have unpleasant consequences, like they get sick. Or die. But, they lived their lives according to their lights until the end.

Think back on the days of AIDS, Inga. Do you think back on those days and understand what forces drove gay men to live their lives on the edge like that? Or, do you think "Well, that'll teach the faggots not to bang total strangers up the ass"?

Cain was a cancer survivor. He knew that he was in a high risk category, but he wanted to make a statement. And he did.

I heard Herman Cain address the Omaha Bar Association after he bought Godfather's Pizza and had already turned it around. Must have been in the 80's. Dynamic speaker. I remember him saying that for the LBO he had to put into hock even his golf clubs. Funny line.

Gifted man. It sickens me that the Left is rejoicing his death. We know that when RBG departs the Right won't do the same thing. We are better than them.

I'd like to think that Freder doesn't actually know the meaning of schadenfreude, but that would be a charitable bridge too far. It would be one thing to observe the sad irony of someone dying of Covid after having questioned the value of wearing masks, but to express pleasure in his death as a result of having contracted the disease (without having any idea how Cain was infected) is what we have come to expect of the bug-eyed rabid American libruls.

Must it be repeated? The lefties are nasty little shits.

I see that Howard, Inga, and Freder are showing their usual, "we are superior because we leftists are tolerant and loving and better than you!" selves. Howard is openly saying that anyone who goes to a political rally for a Republican deserves to die. Inga is mocking Cain for a tweet, not acknowledging his multiple accomplishments. And Freder is openly cheering.

Of course, what can you expect from a bunch who applauded James Hodkinson? And if this is what they do to respected politicians, imagine what they want to do to you!

bagoh20 said...

You may wish to imagine that Cain deserved it for not following your advice , but many times more have died who sheltered in place, especially after following the advice of Democrats who first told them there was nothing to worry about and later forced them to do absolutely foolish things which got them killed. You could put it another way and say many more died because they voted to be rules by Democrats. Do you laugh at their deaths too, because I doubt any of the rest of us do. We could, but we don't.

I first met Herman in 1977 when he joined Pillsbury as the 32 year-old Manager of Business Analysis. He was looking for support in building business models in FORTRAN. He rose quickly in the organization and I reported directly to him in 1980 when he was appointed Vice President.

Above all else, Herman was a class individual. What a marvelous coach. He even passed out copies of "Dress for Success" to upgrade his somewhat hapless subordinates.

I doubt that you will find it in his biographical material on-line, but he had a marvelous singing voice. We coaxed him into singing "Misty" for us late one night in the bar at Telemark, Wisconsin, during an Information Technology retreat. No one who was there will ever forget the performance.

rocean, truth it is you speak.

I'll never forget Inga's claim that asking her to say that "leftists shooting and killing republicans is wrong" was exactly the same as waterboarding her. She spent 11 months refusing to say that Hodgkinson's shooting up the baseball field and trying to kill Republican congresscritters was morally wrong.

Now she refuses to say that rioting and killing black police officers by white leftists is wrong. And she celebrates Herman Cain's death. Does anyone doubt that when the stasi are looking for volunteers to pull the "Zylon B" lever that Inga will "reluctantly" volunteer?

Of course, she'll not need to volunteer: I'm an equal opportunity guy, and one cannot help but notice that Howard and the gang would rush to sign up long before Inga could get there.

And they'd barely finished rabidly mocking a female African doctor for her beliefs which are pretty much uncontroversial in Africa.

ARM was even bringing her up in threads that had absolutely nothing to do with her.

There were, of course, a whole bunch of other doctors supporting the use of HCQ right up there with her, but they only felt compelled to mock the black woman.

Everyone, and I mean absolutely everyone, knows and understands why that is. The ones who would be hurt by that acknowledgment pretend it's not true, but everybody knows that's a lie too.

Pictures of the Lewis funeral show everyone wearing masks, but also sitting way closer than six feet apart, and there are hundreds, if not thousands, in the room, which is way more than most states are allowing in churches, if they're allowing non-political church services at all. If some famous leftie or lefties attending the Lewis funeral dies of Covid-19 in the next month or so, we will be able to see whether the Trumpsters here react the same way Freder and Inga and a few others are behaving now. Brought forward (in part) from an earlier thread.

Field Marshal Freder has turned into standup comic Freder.

First as tragedy, than as farce — or is it the reverse? The Althouse commentariat's “Freder Frederson” is a disgrace to his namesake — i.e., the principal character in Fritz Lang's classic silent 1927 SF film epic Metropolis: to wit, Freder Frederson.

That “Freder” was a uniter — seeking to bring Metropolis' bitterly divided folk together (and succeeding in the end). “Our” Freder is simply a partisan seeking — every minute — a win for his side (which isn't the side of “the people,” by the way). Even Freder's nom de plume here is propaganda — which he then, tellingly, fails to live up to.
