"A masked man who was seen in a viral video smashing the windows of a south Minneapolis auto parts store during the George Floyd protests, earning him the moniker 'Umbrella Man,' is suspected to be a member of the Hell’s Angels biker gang..."

"... seeking to incite racial tension in a demonstration that until then had been peaceful, police said. A Minneapolis police arson investigator said the man’s actions at the AutoZone on East Lake Street set off a chain reaction that led to days of looting and rioting. The building was later burned to the ground.... Police have also connected the 32-year-old man to a widely-publicized incident in Stillwater late last month, in which a Muslim woman was confronted by a group of men wearing white supremacist garb.... Investigators finally caught a break when a tipster e-mailed the Minneapolis Police Department identifying the man as a member of the Hell’s Angels biker gang who 'wanted to sow discord and racial unrest by breaking out the windows and writing ['free (expletive) for everyone zone'] on the double red doors,' the [search warrant] affidavit said. A subsequent investigation revealed that the man was also an associate of the Aryan Cowboy Brotherhood, a small white supremacist prison and street gang based primarily in Minnesota and Kentucky."

From "Police: 'Umbrella Man' was a white supremacist trying to incite George Floyd rioting/Police say the suspect has been identified, but no charges had been filed as of Tuesday afternoon" (Minneapolis Star Tribune).

In the last 48 hours you've seen a surging realization on the left that things have gotten wildly out of control and that the optics of the last 2 and 1/2 months has probably done a great deal more perception damage than they anticipated (which is patently ridiculous...it shows just how out of touch they really are).

And here come the articles and counter-claims that will cover-up or explain away the patently deplorable malfeasance of the left and their foot-soldiers. 100% complete and utter hogwash. Fake news.

"A Minneapolis police arson investigator said the man’s actions at the AutoZone on East Lake Street set off a chain reaction that led to days of looting and rioting. The building was later burned to the ground.

“This was the first fire that set off a string of fires and looting throughout the precinct and the rest of the city,”

I get there's such a thing as inciting a riot or inciting violence. I get that.

But where the heck is the agency in these sentences. Is the city at such a powder-keg moment that a single white supremacist can deface/break open an autozone and as a result people who normally wouldn't side with white supremacists wind up setting lots of fires and looting?

Does that sound like a rationale state of mind FOR THOSE INVOLVED IN THE LOOTING and arson throughout the city?

Shouldn't that be pointed out?

Nonapod said...

Honest question: What's "white supremacist garb"? I mean, beyond something obvious like a klan robe or a Nazi uniform. I assume that there's some kind of outfit that marks someone as clearly a white supremecist? I vaguely remember hearing about skinheads favoring red suspenders and Doc Martin boots. Could that be it?

When you demonize law enforcement, you discourage police officers effectively from doing their jobs. When police officers are discouraged from doing their jobs, you end up with lawlessness. When you have lawlessness, stuff like this is going to happen. Evil people will take advantage of a chaotic situation. It's what they do.

LOL! yes, a BLM/Antifa violent riot was caused by a hells angel and secret "White Supremacist" Maybe the hell's angel was just 'Mostly peaceful" and was having a bad dsy.

But it is hilarious that after REFUSING to investigate the Ultra-leftists involved in rioting for over 5 weeks, the DNC-Press is hot on the trail of a suspected "white supremacist" who might, somehow, in some sorta way be involved. Maybe.

If true and not yet another hoax it is not that suprising that someone would take advantage of the opportunity. I am suprised that so far only there's only one instance even though there has been a frantic search. It might have worked earlier in the process, but, sorry. Too little, too late. It's clear to everyone who the rioters and looters are. The left isn't going to be able to hang the constant violence on the white boogieman no matter how hard their propaganda arm trys.

And try they will.

rcocean said...

I love the verbiage, he "set off a chain reaction". I understand how that works with A-bombs and chemicals, I'm too sure how it works with riots and people. So, he did something and that *forced* everyone else to burn and loot? Because that's what it implies.

Notice how no one can be called Antifa or a communist without proof beyond a reasonable doubt BUT there is no standard of proof necessary with "White supremacist". Why should I believe this man is a "White supremacist"? Because some biased left-wing writer says so? Where is the evidence? The REAL Evidence.

Even on first glance, the article's whole narrative is sloppy and a little convenient for the city of Minneapolis and a police department that might feel the pressure to exonerate and ingratiate itself to the political establishment, the protesters and the media.

Isn't the MPD essentially claiming that by breaking storefront windows on the Auto Zone this one guy was the Pied Piper meets Charles Manson meets Mrs. O'Leary's cow and thereby robbed everyone else of their agency and is responsible for all subsequent rioting, looting and arson?

A masked man who was seen in a viral video smashing the windows of a south Minneapolis auto parts store during the George Floyd protests, earning him the moniker “Umbrella Man,” is suspected to be a member of the Hell’s Angels biker gang seeking to incite racial tension in a demonstration that until then had been peaceful, police said.

Weren't racial tensions incited by the actions of the Minneapolis police officer who killed George Floyd, not any subsequent vandalism?

If anything, "Umbrella Man" was "inciting" an escalation of tactics, which the larger mob -- presumably not comprised of white supremacists -- carried out.

A Minneapolis police arson investigator said the man’s actions at the AutoZone on East Lake Street set off a chain reaction that led to days of looting and rioting. The building was later burned to the ground.

By breaking windows on one store? No one seems to be accusing Umbrella Man of any arson.

The actions of this person created an atmosphere of hostility and tension.

And what other incentive did the MPD, other than the in custody death of George Floyd, have to point to this Hells Angels biker?

One widespread online rumor claimed “Umbrella Man” was a St. Paul police officer, apparently based on a tweet citing information from a “close friend” who claimed to have been married to the officer.

In response, St. Paul police released a series of time-stamped surveillance videos showing that the officer was in St. Paul at the time of the incident and police Chief Todd Axtell released a statement scolding social media users for spreading misinformation that could “jeopardize the officer’s reputation and safety and chip away at the trust this police department has worked so hard to build with its community.”

But I'm confused.

Early on Field Marshall Freder and Inga and the dems told us the violent actions were righteous actions taken in protest about George Floyd....

...right up until the moment the even newer polls came in and the lefties/dems/LLR-lefties decided that the ONLY violence, which previously didn't exist, now does exist and its all been caused by Federal officers protecting Federal buildings....even though it took several months of continuous rioting and attacks against federal buildings for additional federal officers to be surged to protect those buildings.

First of all, the protest in question wasn’t a Black Lives Matter march. It was a Blue Lives Matter demonstration in support of law enforcement officials. Also, the driver in question hadn’t been blockaded in the middle of the street. The protest was taking place on the grassy field of a local park. And the motorist wasn’t “fleeing in terror” from anyone. He deliberately steered his SUV off of the street and went crashing across the park to intentionally run down the demonstrators.

They deal in drug trafficking and other lucrative crimes, not smashing windows for shits and giggles.

Regarding the racial aspect, Hell’s Angels membership, reportedly is, or was, ALMOST entirely restricted to whites, and won’t admit members of other races (much like the Black Congressional Caucus). However, I’ve never heard of the Angels attacking people from a racial motivation.

I’ve never heard of the Aryan Cowboy Brotherhood. The Aryan Brotherhood started as a prison gang that formed to protect members from being raped by black prisoners. The Aryan Cowboy Brotherhood sounds like a gang that thought the Aryan Brotherhood went too far in that direction.

Add that arrest to this:RICHMOND, Va. – Riots in downtown Richmond over the weekend were instigated by white supremacists under the guise of Black Lives Matter, according to law enforcement officials. And it makes one wonder how many extreme right wingers have been involved in this kind of action.

Note how this report includes no underlying evidence at all.

You can see the violence is hurting the left politically since the propagandists are out blaming it on the right. But note there are thousands of left wingers participating in violence yet the protests remain "mostly peaceful" while the involvement of one right winger causes these same people to rush forward in judgement.

It's a clear demonstration of the left's prime principle: no evidence is ever enough to blame the left while any evidence is sufficient to blame the right.

I expect all the usual suspects (Drago, Achilles, Michael K et. al.) to immediately condemn these acts of violence as they always insist I do when the violence is perpetrated by the left.

I see this was enough to wake up the lefties. I pointed that guy out at the time and noted the umbrella, typical of those used by Antifa in the other videos of leftist and anarchist rioting. I would not be surprised that an anarchist whom liked rioting and destruction would join both sides but even Freder must know that the vast majority of rioting is leftist driven. Floyd has nothing to do with it.

Nice try, though. Let's see who they are when the DOJ starts trials and who posts bail.

In fact, your refusal to admit your side has a fascism problem makes you complicit.

There is all sorts of leftwing antifa fascists caught on camera throwing burning trash over the fence at the court house in portland, showing up with explosives and improvised explosive cocktails and fire, trashing the place, acting like imbecilic terror-toddlers.
Yet you have nothing to say about it. We suppose your obsessive hatred of Trump gives you a complete moral blindness to the terrorism and jack-booted thuggery going on in leftwing cities, by leftwing toddlers, night after night.

Numerous Target and Starbucks stores beg to disagree. A "white supremacist" would be motivated to start a race war. The BLM Marxists are doing fine on their own. They don't need help from privileged people to succeed.

There is a noise ratio here. The right wing violence falls within that noise and doesn't rise above it to acquire standing in court.

Trey Gowdy published mug shots for a good number of them. The anarchist movement is robust in Portland and Seattle. One would expect them to co opt any peaceful demonstrations in those cities.

Scott Adams makes the point about the left working to brush the GoP with the motives of a few bad actors. And then should we also not do the same to the left?

Eric Weinstein on the Verdict podcast with Ted Cruz implies that for American to survive the centers of both parties need to disavow the extremes of antifa and the KKK. (Although I doubt if I ever understand Adams or Weinstein correctly)

It’s possible that the suspect was called a Hell’s Angel by an ignorant person who equates the Angels with any and all MC gangs, but if you go to P&G and call their tissues Kleenex, may God have mercy on your soul. The video of George Floyd being killed is a magnet for espionage services from Russia, China, and the mideast. Its low hanging fruit for them. Antifa is better for them than Facebook ads.

The task of the citizen is to focus on the killing and put up a strong boundary around all those who wish to profit off of the death of George Floyd.

If anything we need to look at training all police better. This isn't an isolated incident. It was said he had meth in his system? That is going to make him paranoid and angry and prone to heart issues. The police need a better way to triage arrests. Mayors are responsible for making that happen. The police still don't know how to effectively deal with autistic people or manic depressives. Odds are that neither is going to understand a police command explicitly. The risk of force against them is disproportionate.

Christensen wrote in the affidavit that she watched “innumerable hours” of videos on social media platforms like Tik Tok, Snapchat, Instagram and YouTube to try to
identify the suspect, to no avail.

Investigators finally caught a break when a tipster e-mailed the Minneapolis Police Department identifying the man as a member of the Hell’s Angels biker gang who “wanted to sow discord and racial unrest by breaking out the windows and writing what he did on the double red doors,” the affidavit said.

A subsequent investigation revealed that the man was also an associate of the Aryan
Cowboy Brotherhood, a small white supremacist prison and street gang based
primarily in Minnesota and Kentucky. Several of its members were present at the
Stillwater incident.

In the days after the rioting started, video of “Umbrella Man” ricocheted around
social media, prompting a flurry of speculation about the man’s identity.
One widespread online rumor claimed “Umbrella Man”was a St. Paul police officer, apparently based on a tweet citing information from a “close friend." who claimed to have been married to the officer.

In response, St. Paul police released a series of time-stamped surveillance videos
showing that the officer was in St. Paul at the time of the incident and police Chief Todd Axtell released a statement scolding social media users for spreading
misinformation that could “jeopardize the officer’s reputation and safety and chip
away at the trust this police department has worked so hard to build with its
community.

Althouse loves her a Moby here and a Moby there; She feels they mean well, whether it be live and in person or just in a comment section. Too bad there is no evidence this guy is a Moby and not an actual proggie terrorist like all the rest of the Commies burning down the country. I determine what is evidence and what is not.

"moby:

An insidious and specialized type of left-wing troll who visits blogs and impersonates a conservative for the purpose of either spreading false rumors intended to sow dissension among conservative voters, or who purposely posts inflammatory and offensive comments for the purpose of discrediting the blog in question.

The term is derived from the name of the liberal musician Moby, who famously suggested in February of 2004 that left-wing activists engage in this type of subterfuge: “For example, you can go on all the pro-life chat rooms and say you’re an outraged right-wing voter and that you know that George Bush drove an ex-girlfriend to an abortion clinic and paid for her to get an abortion. Then you go to an anti-immigration Web site chat room and ask, ‘What’s all this about George Bush proposing amnesty for illegal aliens?’”

The strategy has been frequently attempted on conservative blogs, but has not been nearly as effective as Moby envisioned, since false rumors are easily debunked by fact-checking minions, and cartoonishly extreme commenters often get immediately identified as mobys and banned." - https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=moby

The jury is out with regards to how effective it is, as Althouse e.g. will believe whatever makes her feel best to believe, like most all Hillary voters proved with/by their votes. I bet they still feel the same way today, given all the problems that Trump seems to have caused by not letting Hillary sell the country to her most loyal bidders.

Remember, a majority or near it believe Democratics have always fought "for the little guy" because, I mean my God, just read the definitions of democracy!, while Republicans were founded on maintaining slavery, founded the KKK, and enforced Jim Crow until the Great LBJ, lover of all mankind but especially black Americans, ended ... well, something anyway, all because he was a good guy who cared so very, very much about others.

A Hell's Angel? At a political protest? Any political protest? Give me a break.

Hell's Angels are a combination of social club/business. Sort of like many of the social clubs in Little Italy in NY. The business conducted may not be legal, but it is profitable.

You know what's bad for profits? Violence that you're not in control of, from beginning to end. Those fine outstanding businessmen who met/meet at those Italian social clubs did not condone violence at all- by others, and certainly wouldn't incite it. It's bad for business. I have no reason to believe Hell's Angels are any less aware of that. If one of them was involved in starting this- The police will never find him to deliver justice. But justice will have been served- sort of.

BTW, I noted someone above observing that some Hell's Angels are Hispanic. Q: What's the difference between a Caucasian and a Hispanic? A: Usually nothing at all. Almost all Hispanics could be white tomorrow by saying "Hey, I'm white." Know why they don't? Minority privilege. Hispanic gets you scholarships even with sub-par SAT scores. Whites with higher SATs get rejection letters. With that going on- why self identify as white? BTW, typing are there black hells angels into the Google search bar gets you a definite maybe if you read all the answers. I wouldn't know- I'm not their kind of people. Two wheels with a motor simply don't appeal to me.

The only thing I could find on this Aryan Cowboy Brotherhood group was from adl dot org:
Group Status: Active

The Aryan Cowboy Brotherhood is a small white supremacist prison/street gang based primarily in Minnesota and Kentucky. Its main symbol consists of a helmeted and winged skull with the initials ACB.

That's it. They're so unimportant that google has trouble finding them. Minnesota and Kentucky? You've got to travel through at least two other states to get from one to the other. And there's really, really, not a lot in common between the two states. Minnesota and Kentucky? I'd love to see the rationale behind that.
