"The thing that I believe more than anything is that Donald Trump needs the roar of a crowd to feel he is in charge. And Joe Biden was born to be in charge."

Said Democratic convention CEO Joe Solmonese, as Democrats announced that they would have their convention not in Milwaukee's basketball arena but in a smaller convention hall. The delegates will participate from home. All the parties and press events are cancelled. It's yet to be decided who will be seated there in person and whether there will be confetti and balloons.

WaPo reports.

"Born to be in charge" sounds absurdly entitled, but Solmonese is so obviously bullshitting that it doesn't matter.

The smaller place is the Wisconsin Center. You can take a virtual tour of the main ballroom here. I'm going to say there will be no balloons and confetti because the ceiling is too low. It would look stupid.

Ya think? I didn't think the media could be in the tank for a candidate more than they were for Obama, but I think this is worse.

Can you imagine any past presidential candidate (Democrat or Republican) with Biden's issues, not getting news coverage?

How about a bright laser show and smoke?

Maybe not, the Ds may not want folks thinking about rioters burning structures at night.

But it could work for DJT’s show in Florida. He can even tell folks that it represents libs who like to destroy cities.

However, DJT may need to skip the balloons too. If the country (and particularly Florida) are F-ed w/ rona, round balloons may look too much like the virus.

Meh, “born to be in charge”, I don’t see it. BUT even the dog catcher is a better alternative to Trump. Biden is up by 8 points in Wisconsin.

It won't be Biden. This is all a farce.

The sheep won't care. They'll vote for a fire hydrant over Trump.

It won't make a difference. The polls are lying. Those who believe them or seriously think "Biden" has a chance are willfully blind, just like 2016.

Assuming the election even happens.

The worst case scenario I've gamed out involves the Democratics realizing their chances are nil, sometime mid-October. "Spontaneous" riots break out on Halloween and begin spilling into suburbs, small towns, and rural areas.

"Burn it down! Death to colonizers! Black lies matter!"

Doesn't matter the rallying cry they use, the goal is the same.

And that's when the balloon goes up.

What happens next is anyone's guess.

WOW! imagine, that you were born to be in charge...
you're now nearly 80 years old, and (LITERALLY!) the Only thing you've EVER been in charge of:
was a swimming pool, back when you were a teenager
Jo wasn't in charge of the House,
Jo wasn't in charge of the Senate,

How sad!

and if, GOD forbid; Jo becomes President, does Anyone on Earth think he'd be in charge ?

Joe Biden in charge reminds me of an old Jackie Mason joke. A man is bragging about his son, a truck driver. He concludes the driver of the truck is the captain of the truck and the truck is in the transportation business therefore his son is a captain in the trucking business. I'm sure Joe thinks he is in charge. A lot of institutionalized people think they are a Napoleon Bonaparte. Joe's executive talents are more inline with that of being the head men's room attendant.

I love it when the leftist rag about Trump as if any Democrat ever elected president was a self made billionaire before he went into politics and got elected as president in his run for any office.

I'm reminded of the althouse rule regarding reporting on differences in women and men. No differences can ever be noticed unless they're in favor of women. Here any differences between Trump and Biden must reflect on the inherent superiority of Biden and the feebleness of Trump.

This is exactly why I don't follow politics closely anymore. Nobody's interested in the truth, they're just scoring points.

If they could, they would just cancel the entire Democratic National Convention. And I believe they pretty much have done so. No or few interviews. One speech- which he has already been practicing for 2 months.

What the media are doing is comparing Trump actual victory percentage in 2016 to Trump's polling percentage now. They should compare Trump's polling percentage in 2016 with his polling percentages now. Then you see that Wisconsin polling for Trump v. Clinton in 2016 closely resembles Wisconsin polling for Trump v. Sleepy Joe today. And, based on the polls on the night of the election, Trump's chances of winning were 16% and Ron Johnson's were 0.1 %. However, they both won. I know people know these things but in info war you have to repeat.

Trump has been in charge of people and large organization with big budgets his entire adult life. Half a century of experience building things, making payroll, fighting bureaucrats, and solving problems which you can't just pay for by taking other peoples' money by force.

And Biden? Well, he was around, talking, lying, and skimming a nice living off taxpayers, and selling his office to foreign kleptocrats like himself. It's any easy decision once you know what you want "in charge". Being around as things happen is not being is charge. Biden has never been in charge of anything big, dynamic, valuable, and successful. He's spent his career taking credit for what other people have done, usually in spite of his efforts to slow them down or sponge off their profits. I hope we don't experiment with giving him his first try at being in charge with the most important job in world. That sounds pretty irresponsible on our part.

GBnative said...

Two things:

As others have said, all-but-cancelling the in-person convention is a first step toward making the case for a virtual debate. Biden's handlers couldn't very well demand that he be allowed to debate from his basement (for Covid reasons, of course) in the one matchup if he somehow managed to make it to the podium at the DNC convention in front of 15,000.

(Quick aside: Again as others have noted, Biden could "win" one debate against Trump. Expectations are so low. If he garbles out a couple of somewhat-coherent sentences and barks "malarkey" at the right time after Trump finishes his own rambling, well, low-info viewers are going to be amazed and impressed. Actually, if you recall, Old Joe acquitted himself reasonably well at the last Demo debate of the season. Some speculate they doped him with Ritalin or stronger to help him last the night.)

Second, not only were there riots in Madison Tuesday night that materialized pretty much out of nowhere, there's video footage from Milwaukee of a very large urban mob torching a beautiful old Victorian house in one of the neighborhoods -- home of a supposed sex-trafficker, was the excuse. So they did it for good reason, at least. They said. Anyway, the Dems know the genie is fully out of the bottle and could reappear anytime, including during convention week. They're not going near the city with anything important.

Not that so much as it would be a risk to the infirm like Slow Joe if he got hit with a piece of confetti or a balloon. A stiff breeze could put him on his keister, imagine an avalanche of balloons?

Watch the media band together and refuse to show footage of Joe getting in and out of a limo like they did with FDR back in the day. It tells the whole story for those with the courage to watch.

Terry Ott said...

Pointless, probably even foolish, to make much of the polling data now. No need to rehash why, based on past polling performance. But, beside the obvious ones , I would entertain another reason to doubt the polling: I suspect many Trump voters aren’t responding and some may be saying “Biden”. Why?I would suggest that there were 4 primary reasons Trump’s loyalists were beside themselves with joy as the 2016 results rolled in. The LEAST of these, IMO, was thinking that Trump would be up to the tasks and deliver on his promises. We really didn’t know back then, did we? The other 3 reasons were:

1) seeing the crestfallen media types (“experts”) and the pollsters eat their words and scramble to explain; and (2) witnessing HRC just implode and shrivel up into a ball of nothing; and 3) finding out that DJT was no fool after all, inasmuch as he figured out the electoral college angle (or listened to those who did).

So… Trump supporters would just LOVE to have that joyous feeling again. And the way each Trumpian voter can contribute to that outcome is to help the pollsters blow 2020 just as they did in 2016. Why not just help them do so by saying “neither candidate"”, or saying “Biden” and watching the MAGA upset version 2.0?

The claim by Joe about Joe seems at odds with the fact that Biden has been in the public for decades, while Trump mostly ran his business while out of the public eye. Sure, Trump made his brand very public which is good marketing, but he didn't stand to listen for applause by the audience like Biden often did. When did Trump join the public speaking tours often done by other celebrities?
