"As the book nears publication and details spill out, many congressional Democrats quickly assailed Mr. Bolton for not telling his story during the impeachment proceedings and instead saving it for his $2 million book."

"Mr. Bolton explains his position in the epilogue, saying he wanted to wait to see if a judge would order one of his deputies to testify over White House objections. Once the House impeached Mr. Trump over the Ukraine matter, Mr. Bolton volunteered to testify in the Senate trial that followed if subpoenaed. But Senate Republicans voted to block new testimony by him and any other witnesses even after The New York Times reported that his forthcoming book would confirm the quid pro quo. Some of those Republican senators said that even if Mr. Bolton was correct, it would not be enough in their minds to make Mr. Trump the first president in American history convicted and removed from office. Mr. Bolton blames House Democrats for being in a rush rather than waiting for the court system to rule on whether witnesses like him should testify, and he faults them for narrowing their inquiry to just the Ukraine matter rather than building a broader case with more examples of misconduct by the president. 'Had a Senate majority agreed to call witnesses and had I testified, I am convinced, given the environment then existing because of the House’s impeachment malpractice, that it would have made no significant difference in the Senate outcome,' he writes."
From "Five Takeaways From John Bolton’s Memoir 'The Room Where It Happened' describes Mr. Bolton’s 17 turbulent months at President Trump’s side through a multitude of crises and foreign policy challenges" by Peter Baker (NYT).

I'm sorry, I absolutely loved Bolton when he was UN Ambassador and many other times, but apparently he can convince himself that telling of presidential treason and crimes should be reserved for when one can most capitalize off of it politically and financially.

I mean that's what he just said, right?

I am not planning on this buying book, or even reading it for free at the library. If some of the leaked material is actually in the book then I strongly suspect Bolton has made up a lot of things out of whole cloth as payback for not being given a freer hand to make foreign policy, not to mention his unceremonious termination. This isn’t the first “tell all’ book released by a disgruntled former member of the Trump administration. Remember Fire and Fury? How about Omarosa’s book? None of their earth shattering “truths” turned out to be actually, you know, true. More of the same.

Trump is the only thing standing between real people and a Democrat Party gone insane. Even if Bolton’s book were true, which I rather doubt, it’s not as though his opponents give us any choice.

"more examples of misconduct"

As far as I can tell, the most egregious misconduct was disagreeing with John Bolton.

Even the Living Constitution does not make that an impeachable offense.

stevew said...

What he and others call misconduct worthy of impeachment and removal from office is disputed and not agreed. That he waited to say what he does so as to maximize his payday has no bearing on the veracity of what he says, nor does it prove or disprove anything.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Its almost beyond belief that the lefties are going to run with this one again! Ukraine hoax call redux!

Bolton claims he "heard" third person that Xi "basically" described his camps to Trump...meanwhile actual attendees said it never happened!

Here's whats best about this latest Adam Schiff-like made up story: its in the very book where Bolton blows up the narrative that he, Bolton, had the 'proof" of Trump-Ukraine collusion!!!

LOLOLOLOLOL

Remember how Bolton held the key to Trump-Ukraine collusion?!

So Johnny boy just makes up a new lie to replace the now wrecked previous lie!!

For those of you who thought there was no way the dems would go this Wile E Coyote again after Moscow hookers, russia collusion, Kavanaugh was a 2 decades long gang rape leader, hoax Ukraine phone call conspiracy, well. You really do need to understand and accept just how stupid the lefties really are.

My 2 favorite Boltonisms were Trump pushing for increased Chinese purchases of American goids during a .....(wait for it.....wait for it...)...TRADE NEGOTIATION as well as Trump refusing to start WW3 over the Iran drone shoot down!

This is so funny that Im starti g to think Trump is using a cutout to pay Bolton for writing this stuff. Its positively Roger Stone-ian.

There may be a modest interest in what Bolton has to say, but in DC, two million is small potatoes, maybe the net worth of a second-term Congressman from flyover country.

Since everyone in publishing hates Trump and hopes fervently that he will be replaced by Joe Biden, whose net worth is considerably more and not just because of longevity, the best guess is that publishing houses believe the country is too absorbed with other things to care much about the score-settling of an old warmonger.

narciso said...

he was a retainer for victor pinchuk, like doug schoen, hence the country teams operations don't need to be disturbed,

Drago said...

It is my understanding Christopher Steele is available for hire for when the dems seek to "confirm" Bolton's hilarious new ChiCom lies since all the Ukraine and Russia Russia Russia lies have burned out.

Why didnt Bolton just repurpose the Michael Cohen lies about a Moscow Trump Tower deal into a Shanghei Trump Tower deal while he was at it? After all, the dems in 2020 had already shifted their "Trump owes millions to Russian banks" lies to "Trump owes millions to Chinese banks" (see Politico from April 2020).

And isnt there "evidence" of Trump Tower servers secretly pinging banks in Hong Kong?

And didnt Michael Cohen secretly travel to the Chinese camps in question expised by his cell phone GPS locator?

LOLOLOLOLOLOL

The dems arent even bothering to come up with new stuff. They are just crossing out Ukraine and re-crossing out Russia and penciling in China.

Amazing.

Trump is the first US President to really stand up to China on trade issues. Why would China want to help re-elect Trump? Why would Trump think that China would? Doesn’t make sense, other than that any President would want China or any other country to increase its purchases of US agricultural products.

Bolton makes serious charges, but he undercuts them by monetizing them. If he were a man of honor seriously concerned about Trump, he would have explained why he resigned at the time he did (if in fact he was not fired) without concern about the financial implications of doing so.

Can’t wait to hear ARM and Inga agree with Bolton that we should have gone to war with Iran and Trump was a fool not to. Oh and bombing Lil’ Kim, yeah, that would de-escalated tensions among the NK China and us! Bolton has turned in everyone who ever hired him. Cmon warmongers thus is your guy! Prop him up. But his book get a paste-on mustache!

Drago said...

Birkel: "When will ARM agree his ChiCom masters don't acknowledge prison camps for Uighurs?"

This is what makes it all even funnier.

The official ChiCom (and ARM) position is these camps dont exist.

The latest democrat hoax talking point is that the ChiComs control Trump (sorry Vlad! You've been replaced!)

So then why would the ChiComs, supposedly in control of Trump, hand Trump information in front of witnesses that completely undermines ARM's Beloved and Heroic ChiCom propaganda!

Not to worry. Inga will figure it out. It is my understanding she can read minds in mandarin as well as in English.

mikee said...

Heym Sebastian,

DJT hired "wacko JB" in the first place because the hiring not only disturbed DJT's enemies, it provided a strong voice for a genuinely different viewpoint in the administration. Such nuanced management differs from the political unity of the Democrat Party, which demands top-down submission to leadership's desires. If you have only yes-men for advisers, you're not getting advice, you're getting reinforcement. If you have differing viewpoints, you get a broader understanding of issues and better solutions to choose. Trump got advice from JB, which he usually did not follow, but it was valuable advice.

Are you suggesting there is an incompatibility between those two claims? How? Bolton’s own lawyer admitted to the second one (oops!) and, all things considered, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the first one is true too.

But then, as always, even the most cursory analysis, taking but a moment, blows it all out if the water.

And so here we are. Just a few hours after ARM figured he had finally come across THE smoking gun......and now, nothing.

Even the NYT is telling the dummies to cool their jets....lets see if they will listen this time (highly doubtful)

Trump's problem is that in the DC world the potential staffers almost always run from bad to worse. It's hard to find good people when the talent pool is so rotten.

As for China, ARM fails to recall the time China had Obama wait on the runway like an errand boy. Funny, China never treats Trump like hired help.

That's a fair question. I think it applies to Gen. Mattis as well. Paul Manafort, too. Sometimes the "best by" date is not readily evident. Part of it may be that working in the Trump administration is not a big draw; the number of people who have useful qualifications and are willing to take the position may not be very large.

Browndog said...

You asked for it Trump. You hired all these people. You hired every deep stater that applied.

The only true loyalist you hired was Grenell, and when he was finally given a position of authority to help you it was very temporary, and replaced him as soon as you could.

Maybe instead of tweeting about someone nobody gives a flying fuck about you take a good hard look at the Schlapps running the West Wing.
