"This is what happens..."

I guess I'll go ahead and make a Tommy Tuberville tag.

IN THE COMMENTS: TheThinMan identifies "This is what happens..." as a line from "The Big Lebowski" (which is NSFW and I'll leave it to you to decide how much it's something Trump means to say to Jeff Sessions):

Trump using the word 'loyally' will never get old.

Sessions was probably part of the Deep State plot. I pray he loses in the run-off. He put our Country through Hell.Remember, Demtards NEVER recuse themselves even when there is a significant conflict of interest.

Sessions was one of the first senators to back Trump, so I'd file this under loyalty goes both ways. Nevertheless, his fecklessness as attorney general created messes that are still distracting the country today.

I love ya Trump, but why pointlessly piss off a potential ally in the Senate over something that humiliated the Dems in the end?

Shouting Thomas said...

Now that Biden is likely to be the nominee...

Will Trump successfully focus media attention on Joe & Son's extortion and bribery deals in Ukraine?

Will the Democratic media manage to somehow avoid reporting this story? Or will Trump force their hands?

hawkeyedjb said...

This was stupid. Sessions will likely win, and Trump doesn't need animosity in the Senate. Maybe learn the Art of Shutting Up.

etbass said...

Seems to me that some of Trump's tweets are gratuitous. He will need the support of the Republican senator and if it turns out to be Sessions, how can that tweet be good for Trump? He had a win, regardless. Now he has gained an enemy.

Francisco D said...

I don't think that Sessions is a weasel or a Deep Stater. He strikes me as a conflict avoidant Southern gentleman.

Why he wants back in politics confuses me. He does not have the stomach to fight for what he believes in.

It is time to retire Jeff.

It's like the Republicans dissing Romney. Of course, he wimped out. But how does making him a confirmed enemy help get his support on judges, and other votes Republicans will need in the future? What if he switches parties?

Francisco: "Why he wants back in politics confuses me. He does not have the stomach to fight for what he believes in."

Because now there is enough public and validated information "out there" that proves conclusively Sessions was manipulated and used like a moronic punk by the deep staters and Team Coup that Sessions feels ashamed of his political cowardice and failures and wants to win to redeem himself.

I am afraid that will not be good enough.

Sessions essentially ran as an incumbent and could only garner (!) 31% or so.

Sorry Jeff. Rehabilitation for you is not happening.

daskol said...

I saw a couple of Sessions appearances on friendly media when he announced for this race, and he touted his early support of Trump. He will remain a Trump sycophant, and it was sad to see him groveling. One host asks if he still speaks with Trump or had discussed this race with him, and he had to admit he did not. A man's got to know his limitations, and when it's time to exit the stage. Sure, he can probably win his old Senate seat back, but at the cost of his dignity.

In the end, though, the Mueller investigation was a huge positive for Trump. It was the mightiest blow the enemy could land, and it was nothing. It reinforced everything he had said. It cost a small amount of collateral damage with General Flynn, but even that may be getting corrected. Would blocking the special inquisitor -- even if more correct, technically -- have ever worked such virtuous magic?

Sessions claims he will fight for Alabama, but when push came to shove he would not fight for the man who gave him his dream job as AG? Why don’t I believe him?

I don’t see Jeff Sessions winning the runoff.

rcocean said...

Sessions has never explained why he recommended Rosenstein as DAG, instead of someone who was completely loyal to Trump and himself. The fact that Rosenstein was NOT fought tooth and nail by the Senate D's (Sessions 52-48, Rosenstein 75-25) should have been a clue. This is guy who almost on his first day as DAG, started Mueller up, and was conspiring with McCabe.

He even left "secret instructions" that if he was fired the Mueller would continue. This was all due to Sessions. Even more absurd, is that Sessions learned of the Mueller appointment at the same time Trump did and was surprised. Rosentstein didn't even have the loyalty to inform him (not get approval he was recused)!

rcocean said...

Never does Sessions or his supporters explain why Sessions didn't UN-recuse himself when it became clear that the Muller probe was going off the rails and was a witch hunt. Once it became clear that Comey was a dirty cop, and the Dossier was a Hillary financed Fake, or that Mueller was staffing his probe with Trump hating D's, Sessions COULD have stepped in. But that would've meant taking some flak from the MSM and the Democrats. Why Diane Fienstein might have been angry. And Sessions didn't want to do that.

rcocean said...

Is the Football coach an AMnesty/Open borders supporter? I hope Sessions wins, because we'll avoid that surprise.

Sessions should not even be in the race. It's a pathetic deal that he is even running at all.

Brian said...

Well, one thing we know for sure is that Tuberville would not make Sessions's mistake of taking another job and leaving Alabama in the lurch the way Sessions did. No, sir, they'll have to carry ol' Tommy out of the Senate in a pine box.

Tubs was coach of Auburn. He had a winning streak against Alabama that led him to call for "One for the Thumb!". That alone will keep thousands of Alabama fans from pulling the lever for Coach T.

I wish Trump left this one alone.

But I still predict one of the R's will win.

The best news, I can reasonably hope to never hear of Roy Moore ever running for office again.

rcocean:"Never does Sessions or his supporters explain why Sessions didn't UN-recuse himself when it became clear that the Muller probe was going off the rails and was a witch hunt"

This is it in a nutshell.

We could forgive being such a dope and believer in the establishment that Sessions did not foresee what the coup plotters were up to.

But then, after it was made crystal clear what was going on and why and that he never did have to recuse himself, his cowardice and lack of willingness to fight for what was right kept him from doing the obvious and correct thing.

We need fighters. Sessions is not a fighter. He was a reliable vote in the Senate, but we can get that from any conservative.

No it's not, Trump didn't say the movie line.

"This is what happens" itself isn't new or improved.

Source of my favorite censor edit of all time - "This is what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps!"

Browndog said...

All things aside, Sessions refused to resign when Trump asked him to.

Jeff has no one to blame but himself.

Bill Peschel said...

richlb: I'll match that with "Smoky and the Bandit," in which Jackie Gleason's sheriff character says "crumb-bumb" for most of the movie.

But the all-time great edit was from "Blazing Saddles," in which Lily von Stupp's name was shortened. Yes, a one-syllable word was cut to Lilly von Stu-.

TheThinMan said...

I didn’t identify the line as coming from the movie, I made a ridiculous allusion to the movie for comic relief.

Sessions has never explained why he recommended Rosenstein as DAG, instead of someone who was completely loyal to Trump and himself.

In defense of Sessions (sort of), there was NOBODY in the DOJ who was fair minded or inclined to be loyal to the president. It has taken years to find the small colony of honest men and women who are willing to go through what KT McFarland has gone through.

Sessions is suffering what the Bush whelp has encountered. The days when weak was enough are gone.
