Baby Boomers like me can remember the many times the world ended during our lifetimes. As Instapundit says, we've already been done in by the end of net neutrality, so why worry?
Allen S... The political mess is only toxic if you swallow too much of it. Althouse's latest art project serves to remind us that the world is a beautiful and magical place.
Hawkeye: I am a late blooming boomer, so we missed out on those duck and cover drills. However when I was in college going home in the early evening quite stoned from the red-haired sinsemilla I witnessed a launch over the Santa Ynez mountains of a rocket from Vandenberg and thought nuclear Armageddon was coming. I was terrified for about 15 seconds before I determined it was a horse not a zebra. Over the next five years I witness two other night time rocket launches in California and had similar reactions. Kind of like the autonomic response to having a large harmless bug crawl on your skin.
Wilbur you're new here. Most people that have been kicking around this blog for the past decade or so knows that my middle name is Don't worry be Happy. I f****** hate Trump but his presidency doesn't scare me because I believe in the full faith and credit of the United States of America and one pus-filled Cunt cannot possibly harm us.

Substitute "her" for "his" and this is almost exactly what I thought about the possibility of a Hillary Clinton presidency. I am thankful I didn't get to find out if I was right.
"I am a late blooming boomer, so we missed out on those duck and cover drills."
Our next door neighbor had a fallout shelter built under his garage. We didn't have one. I was irritated that the asshole kid next door was going to survive and I wasn't.
I had a two year assignment to a small town. Ten minute walk from my house was a cemetery sitting atop a small rise. Every morning I'd bundle up and take the dog for a walk up there. Sitting peacefully thru the dawn hour, the sun would burst over the horizon and within minutes the hat, the gloves, the coat would be stripped as I basked in the fierce warmth of the morning rays.s
Although I was working an extremely stressful project, those two years were some of the most serene of my life. I chalk up this emotional balance to those mornings in that cemetery.
Ann's photos fondly remind me of that period of life.
In a meeting yesterday in NYC with a combination of co-workers and customers we had a lively discussion about The Coronavirus Crisis®. The older among us wondered when the reporting would become like the Iranian Hostage Crisis in the news, with "Day XX" added to the report openings and headlines. There was complete agreement in the group that this is a manufactured panic and crisis. Most agree that the news media are running with it for clicks and eyeballs. Some agree that the media and Democrats are attempting to use it to attack Trump. The more rumor/conspiracy minded among us think the creation and release of the virus was purposeful; unsure whether the Chinese or US are the source.
A question for the medical folks. I’ve got a bad cold and am coughing sneezing a lot. To try to limit the spread of this illness (especially to ward off passing it to my poor wife) I am using surgical masks I bought back during the Ebola scare. Regular masks with ear loops, not N95 masks. How often should I change my mask? Can I wear the same mask all day? Change every 12 hours? Every four hours? What’s best?
It’s about as nasty a cold as I have ever had. Runny nose. Make that very runny nose. Racking, mildly productive cough. General feeling of fatigue. No fever, thankfully. (Highest it’s been is 98.8.) I wash my hands a lot and wipe down surfaces (including keyboard, mouse, and even TV remote) with Lysol wipes. Our dishwasher has a high temp “Sani rinse” setting and we use that. Anything else I should be doing to help keep the wife safe? Thanks.

I will take this opportunity to say the bare trees creep me out. Have been trying to figure out why and have come to conclusion it was a cheesy monster movie on black and white tv when I was a kid.
"FROM HELL IT CAME Tabonga, a killer spirit reincarnated as a scowling tree stump, comes back to life and kills a bunch of natives of a South Seas island. A pair of American scientists save the day."
You ever notice how the old science fiction or monster movies containing scientists always have one woman in the crew? Three or four male scientists and one attractive woman. Imagine a real world situation like that could be problematic.
Caught six ways from Sunday Biden confesses he was never arrested in South Africa, as he had repeatedly claimed. But he claimed more. He claimed Nelson Mandela thanked him for his arrrest. An arrest which never happened. He wasn’t arrested ... so why did Nelson Mandela thank him for being arrested? That story is a lie too.

Wow. Drudge is in full panic mode today. TEOTWAWKI
Das Ende der Welt, wie wir sie kennen?
The Sun is doing a real number on snow on the ground. Let's hear it for the high sun angle.

Looks like Madison is on fire!
Just getting into the panic mindset.
Almost as bad as Y2K.
Great sunrise pic. I like the human/animal presence in the foreground. Nice touch.
Gorgeous photos as ever.
A refreshingly beautiful photo of the dawn of a new day in a very ugly toxic political mess.
Stiff.
Beautiful. One of your best.

The Doomsday clock will never run out of movements toward midnight. “It’s 47 nanoseconds until doomsday!"
Howard, that's true. But I suspect someone will need to remind you of those sentiments sooner than you may imagine.

Doomsday is like the Horizon, an imaginary line that recedes as we approach it.
So, is this going to continue into the summer when sunrise is 5 AM?

You're already down to 637 from what? 715? 730 in December.
Tcrosse is an epic philosopher today.
I like the series of photos. Your 30 photo post was one of your best.
Personally, i prefer Sunsets. Especially in the tropics. Nothing beats seeing the sun set while being on the beach in Malaysia or Hawaii.

The Santa Ynez mountains? You went to UCSB?

Neither can Einstein. They both dead..
@Howard, they’ve never lost a football game!
You do know that Lucas got his description of Mos Eisley from the guidebooks to IV, right?

The Sun... it also rises?
Mandela was lucky he didn't get a taste of Biden's Apology Chain.
From the another thread:
Commenter: "OK, but can I at least ask what camera you use? Is it a smart phone or something else?"
Althouse: "It's always just my iPhone — XS.
How do you control exposure level? I just recently attempted a sunrise pic on my XS and the colors are all washed out due to overexposure.
Great pic, reminds me of the four color lithographs on heavy paper of the sky above Adam and Eve, in the bible books my mother made me read.
