What's the carbon footprint? And if they don't care, why does anyone care?

ADDED: I clicked through to the article and see that the house is 6,900 square feet. I wouldn't call that a "mega-mansion." Maybe a mansion. Here's a list of the 100 largest houses in the United States. #100 — the smallest of the largest — is 39,648 square feet. The Obamas' new house is less than 20% the size of that place. It's less than 4% the size of the #1 largest house (which is — as ever and never-to-be-exceeded — the Biltmore Estate).

The Obamas are mainly getting beautiful land, with lots of trees, and I don't think 6,900 square feet is so large for a couple, especially one that is likely to entertain many house guests over the years. The house isn't even twice the size of the house Meade and I live in, and we don't think of ourselves as living in a "mansion." The Obamas new house is actually rather modest for their purposes.

I regret the snarkiness of my post title. I was influenced by TMZ's word "mega-mansion." Yeah, I do think setting a strong example with respect to the carbon footprint should be important for the Obamas, but I suspect they think that 6,900 square feet with lots of green space around it is pretty good example-setting.

We're back to how things were with Obama -- the whole presidency no one wanted to criticize him and risk being accused of racism. Clearly he does not believe that global warming/climate change is the most urgent existential threat to humanity.

Penguin, give us an example of a previous claim I couldn't back up

This isn't the first time you've accused me of being a russia collusion hoaxers / kavanaugh gang rape leader hoaxers / Putin threw the election to Trump hoaxer types. I've repeatedly asked you to show me where I have said any such things, and you have refused to do so. Will you do so now or will you simply continue with your baseless & childish name-calling?

I also recall a bunch of bullshit you were spewing about the online searchable database of those who signed the recall petition. (Something about how no private group did any such thing and if they did it was 'cause they were required to be law...didn't make any sense at all so it's no surprise you bailed out of there.)

And your constant claims I'm a "lefty" is also wrong. (tho that may be due to your own delusions rather than you intentionally trying to be deceitful...'cause as it was pointed out, everyone who isn't totally in your camp is considered "left-wing" when you're making your home at the Right Pole.)

Claiming that I didn't respond to that is another example of you telling lies ...'cause several examples were provided in my post of 8/23/19, 12:54 PM. A post which was made prior to the other post you quoted/responded to, so I find it hard to beleive you didn't see it.

What a shame that it will all be under water in 12 short years, as the rising oceans caused by climate change will engulf it all! Of course, back in 2007, they were telling us that we only had 12 years to save the Earth, and showing us eco-porn of simulated pictures of New York and Miami under water. Perhaps Barack and Michelle are insufficiently-true believers?

So we disagree on the extent of your leftism credentials and you have some vague remembrance of something having to do with some searchable database but no other details!!!

Thats it!

What an astonishing (though completely expected) walkback from your earlier lies that there were so very many examples for what you claim!

Nice try Lefty McLeftyson.

Bottom line: we are still waiting...

But dont worry penguin. Soon some other Totally Not Lefties like Inga and LLR Chuck and r/v and howard will totally come to your Totally Not Lefty defense, just like they do for ALL the Totally Not Lefties.

Global Warming is a hoax with lots of money spread around to keep it going. As AOC's chief of staff (and brain) noted, it is all about ending Capitalism. Climate is a convenient label.

I didn't "hate" Obama . I just think of him an empty suit picked up by wealthy backers and put in place. He seems to be rather charming, which was taken by the left as intelligent.

I don’t get Althouse’s defending the Obamas on this. Obama and all his progressive buddies call global warming an “existential crisis” yet they live in complete contradiction to that. I’m coming to believe that every single thing progressives claim to believe is a lie. Every single thing right down to being appalled at kids in cages. They are descendants of the father of lies.

Yes, we are still waiting for you to show us where I've said anything at all about Russia collusion, Kavanaugh gang rape leader, and/or Putin throwing the election to Trump. You made the claims - please back 'em up.

The fact that you have no recollection at all about our discussion regarding the recall signatures being in an online searchable database speaks volumes. It wasn't that long ago - were you posting while drunk? Perhaps you've convinced yourself it never happened? Or maybe you're intentionally lying again, eh?

Whatever the reasons, I find your lil' shtick to be boring. Luckily for you folks on here consider you to be a "saint" and our hostess is obviously entertained by your childish antics...your nonsense wouldn't be tolerated in too many other places.

Althouse isn’t and hasn’t ever been a “top conservative blog.” I think Althouse herself rejects the “conservative” label.

You're obviously posting this in the wrong thread.

And I've been around long enough to remember when it was advertised to advertisers as exactly that. Also been around long enough to know that at least one fella who actually knows Althouse in person (as opposed to just online, like most of us here) considers her to be one of the top conservative bloggers...tho he limits it to just "Wisconsin" rather than "America". (But I reckon it wasn't the "in America" part you were objecting to, eh?)

And not just him, other sites also list her as such....or at least they used to. Looking at the dates on those it appears she may no longer be considered relevant in those circles.

If AlGore and Prince Charles were right this house would have been underwater 7 years ago. But that would not have mattered because humans would have starved to death 30 years before that and peak oil would have ended modern civilization by then.

purplepenguin: "The fact that you have no recollection at all about our discussion regarding the recall signatures being in an online searchable database speaks volumes"

The fact that you cant speak to this traumatic "incident" with any specificity whatsoever speaks MORE volumes.

Perhaps your schtick of increasing the amperage while declining to get more specific will wear thin here as it has for others just like you.

penguin, I hope, for your sake, you are not referring to the statutorily required posting of recall signatures in WI and why that was different from the left doxxing conservatives because I specifically noted the differences AND provided links to those requirements...which obliterates your entire point.

But only completely.

Unexpectedly.

You provided no such links pointing to the law which required those Tea Party organizations to create that searchable database (which was your latest absurd claim in that thread before you bailed out..at first you said there was no such database available online at all)

But feel free to post it now - what law required Wisconsin GrandSons of Liberty & We the People of the Republic to create their online searchable database?

(Assuming, of course, you can finally acknowledge that there is such a database available. Are you finally able to do so or you still trying to deny such a thing even exists?)

Drago said...

As a sign of good faith, I am willing to concede, right now, that purplepenguin is every bit as conservative as self-identified super-duper "muh principles" conservative LLR Chuck.

penguin is attempting to conflate the public records in terms of recall petitions and signatures with the statutory requirements of state agencies which I specifically called out and provided links to.

Am doing no such thing and you are a liar and/or very confused for claiming I am.

For those keeping score at home: What happened in this thread was Drago either forgot about or was intentionally lying about the existence of the online searchable database of recall petition signatures. Even when the link was provided, he claimed the people who created it were required by law to do so.

It all goes downhill...for him...from there.

So why did you sign the petition? Why did you think Walker should be recalled?

Penguin, 4 things

I don't so much worry about a person's individual carbon footprint as the collective footprint of the human species. We wouldn't have to worry about CO2 and clean water and the melting of polar icecaps if we had only 2 billion people in the world instead of eight, nine or ten.

Won't the horror of global warming solve that problem itself, but only if we let it. That's the beauty of man-made disasters. They're self-regulating. All that matters is that Gaia survive, which it will, with or without us. I take great comfort in that.
