"You'd have to do a Vlad the Impaler fezznailing move to get a MAGA cap on my head. But Helmstetter is a self-righteous jerk who got what he deserved."

"And was lucky he didn't get his clock cleaned in the process. Good call by the restaurant."

A comment on "After confronting a diner in a MAGA hat, customer gets tossed from Hill Country Barbecue" (WaPo).

From the article:
A public relations contractor who previously worked for the Democratic National Committee said that he was kicked out of Hill Country Barbecue Market after he confronted a diner wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat on the Fourth of July....

“We had just walked in when I saw the guy sitting by the bar with the MAGA hat,” Helmstetter wrote. “I said, ‘Hey, are you from D. C.?’ ” The man said no, and Helmstetter said he responded, “We don’t tolerate racism in this city.”...

On Twitter, Helmstetter said that Hill Country “chose to protect the Nazi’s right but not mine” to dine at the restaurant...

In the cold accounting of Twitter, Helmstetter’s comment was getting “ratioed,” meaning his tweet had received more negative replies than likes. By Friday afternoon, before Helmstetter made his account private, his tweet had garnered nearly 2,300 likes compared with nearly 5,000 comments, many of them negative....
He didn't just get negative comments, he garnered them.

Example of a negative comment:
You didn't stand up to a Nazi. You harassed a guy for wearing a hat you don't like and called him a Nazi because he doesn't agree with your politics.

You threw a hissy fit, made a scene and got asked to leave as a result.

It would be nice to think that the tide of public opinion [even on Twitter] is starting to turn on this restaurant-shaming business. But I'm skeptical.

He went from seeing a hat to a statement on racial tolerance that implied the man was racist. How did he conclude the man was racist?

Did he think it was the hat itself that was racist and blamed the man by association? That just seems like a manifestation of dementia.

The dawning of the Age of Trump. As the Russia Hoax flips over against the Traitors in DC that made it up, and Trump smiles a lot about our new Eisenhower level peace and prosperity, the civil rules are now being extended to protect his long deplored supporters.

Once again, politics of exclusion practised by an in group are defeated by a good communicator who steadily makes his new group bigger and bigger until it is more popular than the old in group.

I can do relate to the guy in the MAGA hat. And the original article commenter quoted by Althouse. Getting harassed simply for having a viewpoint, and indeed having a lot of false extraneous political baggage thrown onto you by ignorant over emotional political fanatics.

At Hill Country, it was accusing a MAGA hat-wearer of being a racist/Nazi. Here, it’s accusing me (a Republican critic of Trump) of being a leftist/racist/etc.

This strikes at the heart of the problem. When wearing a hat or saying something is interpreted as hostile and violent, actual physical violence is an acceptable response. No more of this "I disagree with what you say but defend your right to say it" nonsense! That was when the cultural zeitgeist was against the progressives. Now they rule the culture and intolerance is the name of the game, intolerance in the name of tolerance!!

1) To smear and lie about Trump and

Chuck was asked to leave this blog by the moderators due to his transparent serial lying and bad faith posting, but refuses to.

According to Chuck, without his smearing and lying and "wedging" presence here, this site would become, in his own words, literally like East Germany!!!

Regarding “feznailing,” there is a story about a Vlad Dracul told by an NBC special about his life and times:

The Ottoman Turks were never far from Vlad's thoughts — or his borders. When diplomatic envoys had an audience with Vlad in 1459, the diplomats declined to remove their hats, citing a religious custom. Commending them on their religious devotion, Vlad ensured that their hats would forever remain on their heads by having the hats nailed to the diplomats' skulls.

The hats would have been fezzes, the brimless hat you still see worn today in Turkey. The refusal to remove their hats in Vlad’s presence was an insult, and he thus informed future Ottoman envoys to watch their manners.

Putting aside all else that's obviously wrong with this chucklehead's behavior, am I the only one noticing how wildly age-inappropriate it is? What's up with grown men comporting and expressing themselves like spoiled, bitchy high-schoolers? The stupider sort of spoiled, bitchy high-school girls, to be precise. Right down to flouncing off of public twitter in a snit when any pushback occurs.

It will be interesting to see if Althouse will agree that her standing invitation to commenters is to come here “to argue and name call,” but I actually take your point for what it is worth. My point went more to the personal attacks based on viewpoint differences, and especially the personal attacks using false accusations.

Also, the basis for expulsion from the premises. Wouldn’t I be the MAGA hat-wearer, in the context of these comments pages? That is, someone who holds an opinion about Trump that is in stark and open contrast to the majority of the group at hand. The comparison would be if the restaurant owner tossed out the MAGA hat-wearer because he was expressing his viewpoint in a way that was too upsetting to the other diners. And that the main focus needed to be on the food and the restaurateur’s presentation, no matter what anybody’s political views were.

Since I grew up near DC, I got interested in the question of where the restaurant was and who might be its clientele. It's very close to the Capitol in the streets just off the beginning of the Mall on the right side. That means it expects tourists. DC itself has lots of people who like barbecue and they could walk into that area for lunch. So I suppose this was a clash between two possible clienteles with a DNC worker trying to establish a MAGA-free zone.

But since the incident happened right after the Trump speech, I would bet that the DNC person was shaken by the size and effectiveness of the Trump event. When people wait for hours in DC heat and in the rain, a DC person knows you never be able to stop them and their cause. And Trump gave a good speech, standing in the rain and heat himself along with Melania. The DNC would not be able to turn a crowd that size out for any Dem candidate even if the event were indoors in air-conditioned comfort and offered free food. So naturally a DNC person would be fearful and angry and ready to let his little totalitarian self out to attempt a meanness on someone.

Swing and a miss, Doc. Hate to have to burst your bubble again, Mike, but you seem to like it. Temujin was talking about his old man going up against Afrika Corpse. You know, led by a guy who wanted Hitler dead, not some SS psycho:

His leadership of German and Italian forces in the North African campaign established his reputation as one of the most able tank commanders of the war, and earned him the nickname der Wüstenfuchs, "the Desert Fox". Among his British adversaries he earned a strong reputation for chivalry, and the North African campaign has often been called a "war without hate".[2] He later commanded the German forces opposing the Allied cross-channel invasion of Normandy in June 1944.

In 1944, Rommel was implicated in the 20 July plot to assassinate Hitler. Due to Rommel's status as a national hero, Hitler desired to eliminate him quietly instead of immediately executing him, as many other plotters were. Rommel was given a choice between committing suicide, in return for assurances that his reputation would remain intact and that his family would not be persecuted following his death, or facing a trial that would result in his disgrace and execution; he chose the former and committed suicide using a cyanide pill.[8]

Rommel was in fact a protege of Hitler, who promoted his career against the military establishment. It is usually forgotten that Hitler put him in charge of military training of the Hitler youth, and later made him commander of his escort battalion.

Hitler was quite skeptical of military convention. Hitlers favor was why Rommel, so often controversial and ascerbic towards his superiors, had command of the 7th Panzer Division in May 1940.

It was also Hitlers influence btw that promoted Mansteins operational plan, and that freed Kleist and Hoth from the normal chain of command, an extraordinary feature of this battle.

Rommels performance in France led Hitler to give him an extraordibary independent command in Africa, and moreover excused him, or protected him, for constantly ignoring and bypassing the chain of command.

It was Rommels experience in Africa, where he could see early on the vast power the Allies could bring to bear, that caused his disaffection and loss of confidence in Hitler.

You seem less crabby today. Have you taken my advice to increase the fiber in your diet?

If a barbecue joint doesn't have at least one guy in a MAGA hat, you're in the wrong barbecue joint.

As for Helmstetter, the fact that he was a former DNC communications staffer says a lot for the DNC. Communications doesn't seem to be this clown's forte, and they figured that out for themselves.

Chuck, you basically started it all by calling the Trump supporters in this forum morons during the primaries. At least have the decency to accept the retribution with good humor. As much as you despise the man, you and Trump do seem to have one thing in common- you both have very thin skin, but the two of you respond to insults very differently.

No. You're the illegal immigrant. Invading an area you're not wanted, complaining about the conditions provided and then refusing to leave even though nothing's stopping you from doing so.

Yeah, doesn’t sound right to me, either.

That would be because I didn’t write that, ass face.

Chuck: My point went more to the personal attacks based on viewpoint differences, and especially the personal attacks using false accusations.

Quit trying to hijack what happened to the guy in the MAGA hat.

You are hated and treated with contempt because you are here dishonestly pretending to be a Republican so you can make cowardly attacks at Trump "from the right". You are a Moby, a concern troll that Meade has told is no longer welcome here.

And you have no interest in "viewpoint" differences:

Chuck once said: "I am afraid you are mistaking me for someone who has an interest in fair treatment of Donald Trump. I'm not your guy. I am interested in smearing him, hurting him and prejudicing people against him."

Fuck off.

After the inauguration, I saw a clearly out-of-town family at my favorite pizzeria in Silver Spring, MD (a close in MD suburb of DC, for those not familiar with the DC area) where the dad was wearing a MAGA hat. I thought it was rather brave of the dad considering the environment, but I watched carefully to make sure nothing untoward went down.

As they finished their meal, I went over to talk them up & told them to try the gelato, as it's a hidden gem of the establishment, very reasonably priced and as good as any in NYC's Little Italy, as it's made from imported Italian ingredients. Needless to say, the kids were all for that idea.

So, they got their gelatos, ate them up, and as they walked out, Dad came up & thanked me for the recommendation. I wished him well, and a good journey home (Oklahoma, I believe), and told him not everyone here voted for Hillary.

Yes, the same was true of quite a few, like Canaris. They paid dearly for their hesitation.

The only one that escaped was Gehlen and he got his whole organization out with the help of the Pope and Truman.

So, how do you like it now Gentlemen?

Step 1 Get everyone to think Racism is the worst thing ever and "racists" should be shunned, fired, and attacked.

Step 2. Expand the definition of "Racism" till anyone to the right of Hillary is a racist.

Step 3. Victory for the Left.

On Twitter, Helmstetter said that Hill Country “chose to protect the Nazi’s right but not mine” to dine at the restaurant...

What is this new "right to dine at a restaurant" that Helmstetter speaks of? Did it come into being only after Mitch McConnell was harassed at a Kentucky restaurant? After Maxine Waters called for harassment of Republicans anytime they were seen at a mall or restaurant? After Department of Homeland Security Secretary Neilson was screamed at by a group of protesters at a Mexican restaurant in D.C. (with no intervention by the owner or manager) until she was forced to leave? After Sarah Sanders was kicked out of the Red Hen solely for the hate-think crime of working for the Trump administration? After U. Mississippi assistant sociology professor James Thomas called for restaurant employees to not just interrupt repunlican senators while they eat, but to "Put your whole damn fingers in their salads, take their apps and distribute them to the other diners. Bring boxes and take their food home with you on the way out. They don’t deserve your civility.” After Eric Trump was spit on by a waitress at a Chicago bar? Here's a hint - if it doesn't apply to literally everybody, it isn't a right.

Step 1

It's more simple than that. The Left has patterned this behavior throughout history:

1619: "We want to enslave these people, but that's wrong, so we'll label them Subhuman Apes to make it acceptable"

1643: "We want to steal from these people, but that' wrong, so we'll label them Subhuman Savages to make it acceptable"

1933: "We want to exterminate these people, but that's wrong, so we'll label them Subhuman Parasites to make it acceptable"

1973: "We want to murder these people, but that's wrong, so we'll label them Subhuman Fetuses to make it acceptable"

2015: "We want to silence these people, but that's wrong, so we'll label them Subhuman Deplorables to make it acceptable"

On the bright side, the fact that the Left needs to redefine their enemies as Subhuman X to justify doing evil things to them says they still have some kind of conscience. The demonization is done to make them feel better about themselves after crack your skull open with a bicycle lock and throw acid milkshakes in your face.

You aren't really a human being, so it doesn't count as an atrocity.

It's okay though - thousands of conservatives are currently writing furious blog posts documenting and lamenting the fall of the Republic, for future generations to burn as ThoughtCrimes. All good.

We're going to go out with a whimper, our powder still dry. My fav stolen joke:

Two conservatives are being led into the Death Camps, one says to the other "don't make a fuss, we might get in trouble"

Gehlen was only competent at conning his bosses. He did it consistently, and is considered one of the worst intell chiefs of the 20th century by some.

Rommel and AH bonded as class and regional outsiders, and clearly used each other as much as possible. It's well-known that Hitler's wwi IC1 has been questioned, but my reading suggests it's legit; Goering's victory claims have been pretty well critiqued (acc. a friend who has studied it) and he actually shot down maybe 10-12 for sure. Rommel too IIRC had to get his highest wwi award on appeal.

It has always seemed ironic to me that AH and the General Staff would have entrusted an important subsidiary theater to such a thruster unless they wanted thrusting--which of course many say was the wrong strategy to begin with.

R was really good at a lot of things, but he was also lucky in that he was able to fight "clean" wars against Westerners.
