I don't see how she could have done any better. Her delivery — the passion, inflection, energy, clarity — is as close to perfect as I can imagine from someone who's found her way into the position to run for the presidency.
I'm not saying I agree substantively. I'm talking about the sheer achievement in speech giving. And you may remember that my instant reaction to Trump's SOTU was, "That was damn near perfect. So upbeat, full of optimism."
I appreciate a great speech. And Elizabeth Warren just delivered the hell out of one. If you're not willing to concede that, then I think you can't distinguish form from substance.
Much of what she said was about the troubles of the middle class, and it sounded a lot like Trump. There were many times when I said out loud, "This is like Trump." And she got a crowd reaction that reminded me of Trump's. People cheered and chants got going.
Unlike so many candidates, she sounds as though she's really feeling what she is saying. In the very beginning there was a sobbing quality to her voice, but as she warmed up, it became excellent passion and energy. It was so different from Hillary, who could sound robotic or like some acting coach had taught her how to give the impression of human feeling. Warren seems to have a strong natural talent for speaking to a crowd, really coming alive in front of a crowd.
I'm thoroughly impressed.

I was trying to find out how many professors at HLS got their JD from somewhere but HLS or Yale and got nothing on google. I did a quick random sample of cvs and saw one who went to U Chi. Is Warren the only HLS prof to go to a state school? Or are 2 percent from state schools? Rutgers is not even a public ivy. Injun privilege is heap big. If she stays in the race this is going to come out to the embarrassment of many.

Just because she gave a wonderful speech doesn't mean that she should be allowed ANYWHERE near the levers of power in this country.

I think Sen. Warren gave a very impassioned speech. But, I think she has the same problem that I do. I'm very passionate about my work and my politics. Often, people interpret that passion as anger. It's frustrating, but I have to temper my passion so that people don't tune me out. I don't agree with a thing Sen. Warren says, but I think she'll have to temper her passion to persuade those outside the hard code leftist, liberal, Democrat base.

In fact the more I think about Warren, the more I am pissed off. The world went crazy just a few weeks ago when a video seemed to show some high school kids acting like jerks to an Indian. Now, it is proven that Warren capitalized on phony heritage claims and it's crickets? Forget helping, why should middle class need help? We are the best off in material terms any generation ever. I for one would be satisfied if the government would simply leave us alone and stop actively harming us -- fewer taxes, fewer regulations, fewer monopolies, more sticking to the actual text of the Constitution, no more bogus H-1B visas and no more winking at illegals... Yeah, I know, that's way too much to ask.
The question is not: did Liz Warren give a good speech. Ms. Althouse, in her Cruel Neutrality™, tends to be a bit more...forgiving, or perhaps credulous toward Pretty Boy 'Bobby' types and Lefty Female Academics who look like her.
The question is: can she REPEATEDLY give good speeches? Do her answers match the questions that the independents have? Is she offering CREDIBLE solutions to the national problems?
Does she provide substantially more 'Value Added' than Trump does to their interest levels, their personal lives and problems, and to their principles and the needs of the nation?
Just from an entertainment aspect, she is more 'cold wet flannel' than Trump is on the first point, and railing against billionaires doesn't put a single penny in my pocket.
And as we watch Venezuela self destruct, pushing Socialism Lite seems...um...unwise?
She still looks like the Librarian everyone hates. Maybe Althouse is 'evolved' enough to look past her frail, emaciated frame and see 'LEADER'. For the far greater masses of the unevolved, nope. She doesn't have the Magic, the Charisma, or the Quickness of Mind to impress anyone.
So for me the value added is far FAR less than Trump.
Intellectually, and Deviously, Hillary was, by far, the superior of Liz Warren.
That was part of her problem: I don't want a smart thief as president.
