I like that there's football team named after the item I'm most likely to forget in my hotel room.

Nice helmet design expressing the concept.

I left behind a pair or pants once. I am pretty compulsive about checking to make sure I have everything, so it surprised me to realize that something got left behind.

(I did have more than one pair of pants with me on that trip.)

They named an NFL team the Pillows?

The Carolina Panthers.

AA, had you followed pro football in your youth, you would know that in the mid-60s the San Diego Chargers were most exciting team in the American Football League (years before the merger with the NFL) and maybe the most exciting team in all of football. They were an offensive powerhouse.

Not a fan of the team but the Chargers powder blues are still the best uni’s in the NFL

(And they will ALWAYS be the SAN DIEGO Chargers!)

The Chargers have too much white on their helmets.

What's the second most likely item? Maybe Bears?

There's several other animals that might be left behind if it was a great bachelor party or something...

I can honestly say, I've never forgotten a dolphin in a hotel room.

How would represent Wedding Vows on a football helmet?

In the old days, laptops had detached mouses (mice?). I left one of those in a SF hotel, back in the day when deals had real (rather than virtual) closings.

I stopped leaving my chargers and other small electronics in hotel rooms when I got one of these. This is the general category.

I bet one of the teams remembers to throw in the towel.

Pretty soon there'll be padding on the outside of the helmets. Easier on brains but tough on logos.

Doesn't Althouse's team have a big G in a spot?

Ann Althouse said...

I focused on the Chargers yesterday because I was thinking about animal mascots and answering my own question what kind of animal has the most football teams named after it? My answer was horses. I was thinking about the Broncos and the Colts and I thought "chargers" were horses. Meade corrected me, explaining what Chargers supposedly were and calling attention to the lightning bolt on the helmets. I can't remember what the real reference was, but with the lightning bolt on the helmets, I thought it was hilarious to think of the team being named after the most boring part of of your computer equipment.

Ann Althouse said...

I mean, "chargers" are horses.

""Knights and gentlemen," said the King, as he sat his fine charger and looked round upon the gallant muster around him, "shall we be daunted by the opposing foe? They are but a handful, and we know the coward temper of yon Italian crossbowmen. Who will be the first to lead the charge, and ride on to victory?""

You would be wrong. More birds: Cardinals, Seahawks, Ravens, Eagles, Falcons. More Cats: Lions, Panthers, Jaguars, Bengals.

A charger is also a large plate.

@Althouse, I agree with Curious George. How can you work crossword puzzles and not know that a seahawk is an ern?

People who live off their credit card like to be called chargers. It sounds braver and more life affirming.

Excuse me. I stayed here last night and I think I left my Brown in the room.

What the fuck is a brown?

Did you find a Brown in there?

A what?

A Brown. She thinks she might have left one in 210.

What the fuck is a Brown?

I don't know. Nobody knows.

I didn't find anything.

She didn't find anything.

Oh. Okay, well...

Did you check your car really good?

Yeah, it's not in the car.

The trunk?

Yeah, it's not in the trunk.

Okay, well we don't have it.

He played like Tiger Woods and looked like Rickie Fowler.

And lest we forget The Big Cat, the King of Wrestling, Ernie Ladd.

At the species level, I think I am right.

Headline and pic had me trying to figure out which team is called the Vibrators.

I left a cowboy in a motel room once. He was wearing chaps and spurs, but he never brushed his teeth.

The seventies were strange.

But well-suited for another boring computer part - the fan.

Not Sure said...

This explains why no team is called the Vibrators.

The actual Seattle Seahawk live mascot is a 12-year-old Augur Hawk trained by David and Robin Knutson from the Spokane, Washington area. Taima, the hawk's name, always precedes the team onto the field before every home game. The Augur hawk is not from the Pacific Northwest; it hails from Africa. The Osprey, which is referred to as a sea hawk, is illegal to own and use for commercial purposes. The Augur Hawk's markings resemble an Osprey somewhat, and is not restricted by the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

The Seahawk logo is a Thunderbird-like bird reminiscent of the totems of the Kwakwaka’wakw Indian tribe located in the Pacific Northwest.

28 - 7 in the 2nd quarter? Looking like the Chargers won't be needing a hotel room going forward.

the G-Spots ???? definitely call the front desk to check

Reddy Kilowatt was the super hero they wanted to emulate so he would electrocute the other teams. Today they are probably thinking more about Directed Energy Weapons in Cali..Streak of blue light and the target is melted.

Curious George said...

"At the species level, I think I am right."

Nope. More humans: Cowboys, Redskins, Vikings, Patriots, Chiefs, Saints, Packers, 49ers, Texans, Buccaneers, and Steelers.

Althouse will figure out some angle by which she's right.

Put the charger cable through your car key ring.

Nice catch there by Edelman.

Problem today is that they forgot to plug in the Charger(s).

Have to say though that Tony Romo is actually a pretty enjoyable color commenter.

Certainly better than the insufferable Cris Collinsworth.

I had to tune into the game to get the answer to Ann's riddle. You forgot your "A Game" in the hotel room!

robother said...

Hopefully, the scoring is over. I like the two AFC games having palindromic scores: 13-31 and 14-41. Wonder what Las Vegas would give as odds on a prop bet like that?
