"... who will soon take over the offices of governor and attorney general. It was the latest effort by leaders of a state to try to shift authority in the face of an election loss, and it set off furious protests from Wisconsin Democrats, who said they would not stand for the moves and called on residents to raise loud objections. Republicans called lawmakers to the state capital this week to weigh a sweeping plan that could diminish the power of Tony Evers, the Democrat who beat Gov. Scott Walker last month, by restricting his ability to shift how public benefits programs are run and limiting his authority to set rules for carrying out state laws. The long list of proposals Republicans want to consider also includes wide efforts to shore up Republican strength before Mr. Evers is sworn in next month: new limits to early voting, a shift in the timing of the 2020 presidential primary in Wisconsin, and new authority for lawmakers on state litigation."
The NYT reports in "Wisconsin Republicans Try to Shrink Power of New Democratic Governor."
ADDED: Capital Times reports on protests: "Angry protesters swarmed the fourth floor of the State Capitol Monday, shouting through the doors of a committee hearing room where lawmakers considered sweeping Republican changes that would restrict the powers of the incoming Democratic attorney general and governor. Capitol police officers forcibly shut the door of the hearing room after protesters chanted 'Respect our votes' into the packed chamber, where legislators debated..."

Good WI Repubs are learning to play the game like Dems play.
Oh my, limits on early voting...
Horrors!
I think its simply awful that the Republicans are acting like the Democrats would.
Setting limits on the authority of statists . . . would that this would be SOP all year long!
Limiting the Democrat's voter-cheat machine is paramount. We will all be corrupt CA soon enough.
Yo GOP - why don't you accomplish some of this stuff when it matters most. At the beginning. Not the end.
Are they running away and staying in cheap motels just across the state line so as to prevent a quorum?
If not, they’re nothing like the democrats. Pussies!
I'd support this at the federal level too, except for the notion that the Executive shouldn't have power of the Executive Branch such as State and DoJ employees. But a President shouldn't be able to bypass Congress with a phone and a pen.
Oh my. Time for a tantrum. Politics ain't beanbag as the saying goes. As for me, a pox on both their houses.
Early voting, late voting, ballot harvesting... if you stop it, you are a racist, or something.
We said you wouldn't like the new rules.
The left in Wisconsin are desperate to roll back all of the progress made limiting Union force and union theft. If the GOP can do something now to stop or slow it - do it.
My voting system:
1 spin the cylinder
2 point
3 pull trigger
4 if you hear a click you get to vote
It has just one problem. Everyone knows republicans and democrats are equally willing to die for there right to vote, but the democrats will complain they can't vote by mail.
Similar stuff in Michigan. Stupid and counterproductive.
Can't the Republicans do the right thing and appoint a Special Counsel to investigate the incoming chief executive?
"Angry protesters swarmed...
Col. Jessup: [refering to Santiago] I felt his life might be in danger from Wisconsin protesters.
Kaffee: Angry protesters?
Col. Jessup: [sarcastically] Is there another kind?
This is what democracy looks like!
Angry protesters meet with bemused commentators.
Angry protesters swarmed the fourth floor of the State Capitol Monday, shouting through the doors of a committee hearing room ...
Not. A. Mob.
protesters chanted 'Respect our votes' into the packed chamber,
What was it they said to the Fleebaggers? Thank you?
Soros taught us how to weaponize the elected District Attorney/Attorney General Offices.Litigation paralysis is the way to stall governing nearly forever and dish put legal fees to loyal Special Councels that can loot the place and laugh.t
The legislature and Walker should create a new position. A Prime Executive. This person will have all of the power of the third branch of government. And Walker will be selected to lead it for a twenty year term.
The normally elected Governor will be given a shovel and a mountain of asphalt. His job will be to fill potholes.
And, there should only be voting locations in R districts.
I'm sure the turtle in the US Senate would approve.
Congress and state legislatures delegate a lot of power to the executive branches.
Courts let them do it.
Courts took some legislative powers as well.
So now the Wisconsin Supreme Court can constrain the executive.
That’s the system Progressives set up and fake conservatives like John Roberts went along with it.
The GOP Wisconsin legislature is just playing the game. They’ve also done an excellent job gerrymandering.
Now Progressives are crying Unfair. Fuck them. This is their system. Fucking choke on it.

of COURSE it's Not a mob!
A mob would be if (Angry*) Protesters swarm the Governors Mansion after Evers is sworn in .
THAT would be a mob!
(Angry*) as opposed to the other kind
Where is chuck? Since my stroke in April I’ve been deprived of his wisdom. And Of milhouse’ Talmudic parsiflage
I am NOTLaszlo.
Good for them.
Lol they’re just following in the steps of Massachusetts and New Jersey. Aren’t they supposed to be lik3 their “betters?”
"Recall Evers!"
"Evers is Hitler!"
""Recall Evers!"
"Evers is Hitler!""
What? Use the system of representative governance to determine the policy of the government re the governed?
Naw. That's fer chumps, i.e. libs. Do the opposite of what the voters voted for, i.e. WI cons.
This is why you can't move to the mountains Ann. You and Meade may get an Emmy for your on the scene reporting of the latest Wisconsin shit storm.
#NotMyGovernor
adSs: "Naw. That's fer chumps, i.e. libs. Do the opposite of what the voters voted for, i.e. WI cons."
Yes.
A lefty wrote that.
Just now.
As if the last 50 years didnt exist with a #Resist capstone atop it all.
Love it.
Nice to see conservatives *somewhere* with the balls to fight back. Since the Left seems to want any opposition to their agenda to be criminalized, screw 'em. What the WI conservatives are doing doesn't hold a candle to what the Left has been getting away with for decades.
cheaters will cheat
"I think its simply awful that the Republicans are acting like the Democrats would."
Who do you think the Dems have been copying for the past 25 years?
Oh come on this coup is highly unusual and undemocratic, you can’t point to another state where this happened in the past. But I guess fighting back against what the majority of voters want is the Republican way in Wisconsin.
North Carolina scumbags did this too and the Michigan scumbags are planning something similar.
If they can't win even when they cheat, then they cheat after they don't win. The new republican way.

Hey r/v why don't you indulge us and go back and find all your many similar comments regarding the fleabaggers. Thanks.
These aren't the Democrats of even 10 years ago. These are crazy people.
Limiting the Democrat's voter-cheat machine is paramount. We will all be corrupt CA soon enough!
Until the wipe-out in Orange County three weeks ago I had never heard of Ballot Harvesting, but apparently my home state has now adopted a same-day provisional ballot system that allows California to
1. Count all the votes on election day
2. Determine how many D votes are needed
3. Get that many plus one into the system by the Friday after election day
This allowed the Democrats to reverse a 14-point lead on election day for Young Kim, the first Korean-American elected to national office from CA. Fourteen points! Hugh Hewitt used to say (and wrote a book titled) If It's Not Close They Can't Cheat but the definition of "close" just changed drastically. Estimates are that the "machine" will be able to wipe out a 20-point lead by 2020, ensuring Republicans never again win a statewide office.
It started with Motor Voter, where the state sure every illegal alien was registered to vote (illegally) when applying for a drivers license; then early voting, then vote-by-mail, and now ballot harvesting. Not one law has been passed to help keep the integrity of the vote. Not one national Republican has stood up (except to my great surprise Paul Ryan!) to point out the fraud, and potential for more fraud inherit in this "system" as set up by the Progressive mob in CA.
Soros taught us how to weaponize the elected District Attorney/Attorney General Offices.
His efforts to elect radical progressives to every Secretary of State (they oversee voting in the states) in battleground states first, then the rest, are in support of these "vote harvesting" schemes.
Whenever I think of Madistan, the soundtrack that plays is Ronnie James Dio belting out, "The Mob Rules" when he was, briefly with Black Sabbath. Oh, and "Heads are gonna Roll" by Priest also fits.
No one is really bothering to hide the purpose of this lame duck legislation: to continue the Republicans’ hold on state government, even at the expense of core democratic principles like respect for the separation of powers and majority rule,” Dan Kaufman writes in The Times.
you can’t point to another state where this happened in the past
Yes I can. Happened 8 years ago in the state of, wait for it, Wisconsin. Where Dems tried to push through last minute union contracts during a special lame duck session. They even had to spring one of their members from jail to do it.
Amazing how short leftists memories are.
Trying to approve state contracts that Jim Doyle has already negotiated is a bit different that what is taking place now, and yes Walker got his way thanks to Decker, a democrat, now lets see a Republican step up to disagree with this lame duck--
Can't you freaking Wisconsin assholes ever calm down?
Ironically the Republicans based their reasoning for not approving the contracts citing he recent election as giving public support for the incoming Walker-- just the opposite of their reasoning today-- what power hungry hypocrites.
Speaking of hypocrites, thank goodness there was one Democrat with integrity. Otherwise all those Madison lefties would have been busy birds, flocking to the Capitol to protest those lame duck deals.
Anyway, the left spent the last 8 years burning it all down. It's now much too late to go back to those simpler, pre-fleabag, pre-recall, pre-John Doe, Pre-harassed legislators, pre-drink throwing days. The innocence is lost. Time for Democrats to reap what they sowed.
