Pathetic performance by the Steelers today. Two picks (one at the goal line), two fumbles (one at the goal line) and a blocked FG attempt. They are not ready to play teams with losing records.

Last night late, I watched 3 & 1/2 episodes of the CNN special on Patty Hearst. Most of the episodes dealt with the criminal shenanigans of Patty Hearst & her fellow members of the Symbionese Liberation Army. You could say that it was clearly a case of "If it bleeds, it leads" determining content.

None of the participants come across very well. Patty Hearst especially is painted in a very unsympathetic light. It's clear that the CNN producer & head-writer, Jeffrey Toobin, thinks that Hearst used her family's power & influence to "control the narrative" to build the case that she was brainwashed in captivity, thus a witless pawn in all she crimes she committed & abetted, a narrative that finally culminated in her presidential pardon from Bill Clinton.

What struck me as sad was that Toobin seems to have no stomach to investigate just what part his guild played in building that narrative, seeing as the SLA involved a strange intersection of the "Right-Kind of People" (the wealthy & connected Hearst family) with the romance of radical Left-Wing politics. If Toobin is really concerned about the forces that let the SLA get away, literally, with murder, he might want to take a look around the CNN cafeteria sometime.

@Enlighten, Carter pardoned a lot of people who didn’t deserve it.

Think about how empty the faculty room at your local university would be if Carter hasn't pardoned all those draft dodgers.

They eschewed their responsibilities and duties as citizens...and they taught the children since to do the same.

That was something pretty massive culturally.

Perhaps a better form of 'pardon' would have been an admission of guilt and then pardon. That way the worst radicals could stay in Canada or England.

Sprezzatura said...

FIDO makes an interesting point re excuses and spurs and POTUS.

Humans are interesting.

SLA was a bunch of asshole punks. Lesser known members assassinated black superintendent of schools (marcus Foster?)in Oakland-with guns, from the bushes. Didn't have enough guts to face the guy.

He was under the influence of far leftists from an ips like think tank, noe it would be American progress.

Creed 2 was a damn fine movie. Pro-Father, Pro-Marriage, Pro-striving for excellence.

Yeah, I'm biased. We were absolutely floored by Rocky - 42 years ago. But it still works!

The blog marketing goes in phases for me. I'll see the same ad constantly for several weeks, and then it will be something else. There was the Rotimatic, the helicopter service from JFK to the Hamptons, the Glow Forge, and now NordicTrack. Somehow Big Data has the idea that I'm a loaded Indian.

Churchy LaFemme: said...

Well I see Insty has dropped twitter.

Something else I'm glad I never got started with..

Sprezzatura said...

What do Ferrari and planes and big-dough real estate ads mean?

BTW, WTF no chopper stuff? Westcoast thing?

I dunno.

P.S. Indians (incl from India) aren't (usually) ballers. Get yer stereotypes right. Just sayin'. IMHO.

P.P.S.

Nordic T means they think you think a few pounds gots ta go.

This may only interest Althouse; Lord & Taylor plans to close its 5th Avenue flagship store in January after 104 years. Lord & Taylor is the oldest department store in the country. Headquartered in New York City, it is a subsidiary of the oldest commercial corporation in North America.

Like many in my generation, L&T were the big Kahuna. Their unique print ad style, floor displays and stunning seasonal windows were the reason we chose marketing/advertising.

Next year, the 11-story, Italian Renaissance-style building covering a whole city block will be taken over by WeWork, the workspace leasing company. How f*cking deary.

Sigh.

This is not anything close to real science: but I've found that Indian (and Sri Lankan) gals like big cocks. I do get the vibe that they wouldn't be into poor big dick, but still the girth/size seems ta be especially appreciated. Even re Asians-non-East.

I dunno.

At least we got some decent music out of the original SLA.

The BBC, naturally, does not even mention "alleged stone throwing" or some similar downplaying of that. They just leave it out entirely:

I see Morning Joe and Evening Mika got married over the weekend. Ceremony performed by Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Commie Pinko). No word on whether they are honeymooning in Russia (nee Soviet Union) as their comrade in arms, Bernie Sanders and his bride, did.
