Drudge advises Fox News women to "Check your soul in the makeup chair!"

From the WaPo article about the tweets:
Drudge did not respond to multiple requests for comment late Monday night....

The Drudge Report... prominently featured links to news stories related to the segment and included an image of Campos-Duffy, who appears to be laughing. In all capital letters, the headline of one story on the site reads, “LAUGHTER, JOKES ON FOXNEWS SEGMENT ABOUT TERROR FALLOUT?” Beneath that is a brief three-word line linking to a story that included Fox’s response: “Network: Chyron error."...

I feel really good about having given up drudge a while ago and I did it specifically because Matt drudge is a piece of Shiite

Tired of being sadz but still being entertained.

This is a huge nothing-burger. They had moved onto another topic. They had NO idea the chyron was still showing that.

Pathetic on Drudge's part.

Michael K said...

Yeah, the chyron thing is what happened. Nothing there.

Phil 314 said...

Drudge is Jewish and therefore possibly sensitive at this moment about such things.

Leland said...

I guess Drudge really wants Fox to fire the off air chyron operator for not staying up with the conversation.

Fake news.

Amexpat said...

When did "chyron" pass into the popular vernacular? Missed it, but picked it up today.

Henry said...

Never heard the term "chyron" before. Sounds like insect politics.

Chiron is a centaur.

Chyron is a company that makes crawling graphics.

It's named after Chiron.

You can hardly blame Drudge for noticing that television news juxtaposes the most horrifying tragedy with chirpy bimbo perkiness.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

Most of CNN's chyron's are "Trump lied"

(I know - "chyron" - where did that come from?)

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

An awkward and blind moment for sure. I'm Ok with Drudge calling out Fox. Why not? Wish Drudge would point out CNN's ridiculous cyrons once in a while. I've seem a few on twitter. The anti-Trump bias is over the top. CNN isn't "news" it's all commentary.

There were so many breaking stories on 9/11 and for months afterward that all the networks employed chyrons at that time so viewers could stay up-to-the-minute on new developments. However, they never got rid of them, so now you have the ridiculous experience of watching some talking head report on a tragedy, while the chyron below tells you about the latest anti-Trump pronouncement made by a celebrity, as if that is important news we all need to know about right now. It's distracting and obnoxious.

I don't think I actually know what they were called, though, until just a few years ago.

Split-second screen grabs are a poor way to determine anything.

That said, Fox morning shows are like some kind of torture, methinks.

"Check Your Soul in the Makeup Chair"

David Foster Wallace essay or Tori Amos song title?

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

CNN is a disgrace with disgraceful "guests" who spout lies and radical leftwing garbage.

Julia Ioffe(D) - not just a hack, a really bad person.

I take it Drudge is a Dodgers fan. There's no chyron in baseball. Sorry.

Shepard Smith is the Fox News Host whose job may be in jeopardy -- "There is no invasion. No one's coming to get you. There's nothing at all to worry about." Maybe they ran out of koolaid.

Jay Vogt said...

Ok, be honest. For whom else was "Chyron" a new word?

Maybe I gotta get out more.

tcrosse said...

Chyron sounds more elegant, but we used to call it The Crawl.

chickelit said...

Has anyone ever seen Matt Drudge smile?

When the news becomes about the those reporting the news, it’s sure to be fake news.

FTC: "Split-second screen grabs are a poor way to determine anything."

Exactly. #FakeNews on Drudge's part. They had moved onto a new topic.

Never heard of it. And it certainly doesn't sound like what it describes.

Nonapod said...

Yeah, I "chyron" is a new inside baseball term to me, I also just referred to it as "the crawl".

The misalignment between chyron content and panel topic is not a new issue. It's one of the big reasons I dislike news networks usage of them (and why I often dislike tuning in to 24 hour news networks at all). You run them chyrons and you risk exploitive screen grabs like this one.

I'd imagine that Drudge was most likely aware of this was an honest error. He was just being a douche. Weirdly, he seems to have become somewhat "concerned" about tone. Yeah, Matt Drudge the king of sensationalists, the high lord of clickbait, is concerned about tone. I'm not sure if he has much self awareness.

Matt Drudge is going full Charles Johnson.... Getting almost as bad as LGF...

Jay Vogt said...

If I saw it on a quiz, I'd have guessed "Chyron" was a moon of Pluto.

SteveR said...

Drudge looks for the bad news (for conservatives) and likes to headline it. He still has a lot of good content but he is not a reliable indicator of facts in his headlines.

It's a balance. There are 17,000 homicides a year in the USA. Literally, if every one were prominently featured every day on Drudge, Twitter, MSNBC, Fox, we would fall into a continual 24/7 state of depression.

This horrific tragedy in Pittsburg deserves reflection and reverence, no doubt. But for how long? Do we mourn for a week? And, then get back to our normal lives? It's hard to say. Drudge may be a little oversensitive here.

Fernandinande said...

Chiron, the wisest centaur, founded the ChyronHego Corporation in 1966; the Coporation had been losted since 10 BC.

AllenS said...

11 people were recently killed in Pittsburg. That's less than 2 weeks worth of dead in Chicago.

James K said...

That said, Fox morning shows are like some kind of torture, methinks.

Though nothing compared to "Today," "GMA," and and "CBS This Morning." The chirpy host seems to be a mainstay of morning shows.

There is a risk of taking things out of context. When people see what you have done, they naturally give you less credibility. And credibility is important for journalists, isn't it?

jeremyabrams said...

Drudge has had some real insight into the public "mind," including things most pundits miss such as an obsession with the weather and pop culture, but his instincts now seem to be failing him. Too bad, there's no obvious replacement.

Based on chyrons I've seen crawling, this could be a new gotcha art form. And then, maybe we could get rid of them till the Martians land.

Fake news of course. The people in the studio don't know what is scrolling underneath their images.

Like a commenter above, I do wonder whether or not Drudge's drift left isn't caused by some relationship change in his life. It has become noticeable, especially the incessant Beto headlines which are inexplicable to me given Beto's chances of actually winning in Texas.

Drudge was always somewhat of a drama queen. That's how he got to 10 billion hits per year. It's good business.

He was never a Conservative, but mostly a Libertarian anti-Leftist.

I am hoping we don't have another David Brock situation.

Overtime is my must watch TV. I confess to a girl crush on Harris Faulkner. She's smart, prepared, and holds her point while being respectful to the opposition. I'm proud to see such a competent woman in the news business. She is the real thing, no token. In fact, they added another hour of the show and made her sole host.

Theoretically Outnumbered is an opinion show; it's always 4 women and one guy, and 4 real people against one liberal :-). Kennedy, in the top tweet, is a libertarian. Anyhow, anymore I find it impossible to figure who is a reporter and who an opinionator.

What soul?

Sooner or later these idiotic Jewish Republicans like Drudge are going to figure out that their right-wing friends don't mind a bunch of Jews getting massacred "for the cause."

In fact, for many conservative Christians, their religion is based on that very fact in itself.

When something is televised on CSPAN and Cable News, I switch over the C-SPAN.

Why? So i won't have some fucking scroll at the bottom of the TV Screen, either distracting me with ANOTHER story, or telling me how to think.

Why don't more people complain? OR is it that some people are so ADD, they need a scroll underneath the screen flashing different news stories, or so dumb they need someone to tell them what to think.

Ugh.
