"I set out to be famous! I set out to be Cinderella. I saw two movies when I was a kid: 'Dumbo' and 'Cinderella.'"

"And on the way home, I started singing the songs in the car. My mother punched my dad and said: 'Listen! She’s singing songs from the movie.' I’d never heard them before. I didn’t understand the reality. I just knew I wanted to be on that screen.... I went to Mike Nichols one day for a part in a movie called 'The Fortune,' and he said: 'No. You’re wrong.' I just looked at him and said: 'You know what? I’m very talented, and one day you’re going to be sorry.' I have no idea why I said that."

Said Cher, quoted in "Cher Has Never Been a Huge Cher Fan. But She Loves Being Cher" (NYT).

While a fan of both, I always preferred Cher the actor to Cher the singer.

Both preferable to Cher the Political Commentator.

It seems like Mike said, "You're wrong for the part," and Cher played the asshole card.

It just means she was a natural-born asshole, not Hollywood-built.

Both preferable to Cher the Political Commentator.

Luckily I possess the ability to enjoy someone's artistic output without giving a shit about their politics.

She probably didn't mean "sorry-sorry".

Anyway, the optimism, vanity, and confidence of youth.

Give me a ring, Cher, and I'll explain to you why you said it. It won't take long.

She was good in Suspect (1987), meaning the movie was okay and she was the lead actor.

Moonstruck left me cold but she was great in Silkwood and Mermaids.

Cher does unpublicized one-on-one work with wounded veterans.

I liked Dumbo better than Cinderella.

I think both were right, but Nichols was more right than she was.

One of the most amazing videos I have ever seen is Cher with her husband singing "I got you Babe". She is so over-the-top beautiful ... I mean, she was too tall, I was alive in the 1960s and tall women like that were rare, but I never noticed that she was too tall until, like, 40 years later .... her hair was super long but perfectly long, and .... the way she smiled at her husband, and seemed so happy was magnificently happy and almost celestial ....

it is up there with the video of the "I'll never find Another you" song by the Seekers (that green dress!) , which Ann featured here several months ago, and, all due respect to super cute American musician women from back in the day like Linda Ronstadt and that blonde girl from the mommas and the papas, Cher really was a beautiful princess ... or at least really looked like one

I don't care much about her politics except to the extent that the near thuggish intensity of her rich-town thuggish 'liberal' views is a hint that .... a hint that , God forbid, she had a few abortions and knows that, if she had not had those abortions, the daughters that God would have given her would have been just as transcendentally beautiful as her, and who knows what her sons would have become ... I am not trying to be mean, I am just trying to understand why her vituperation is at such a high level .....

Cher would have made a great Dumbo, if she worked with a trainer. Like Rosie O'Donnell.

The daughter that God gave her is now her son.

Judith Durham is wearing a red dress in the best "I'll Never Find Another You" video and "that green dress" in their best "Georgy Girl" video.

Not to quibble, but ... hey, we're talking about Judith Durham *sigh*.

stephen cooper বলেছেন...

Roughcoat: no need to sigh.

I did that (called the red dress green) on purpose because I wanted to reference both videos.

Out of the kindness of my heart.

And anybody who watches both videos would thank me, I hope.

Let's not forget (how could we?) Bev Bivens (We Five).
