Good! — "Brett Kavanaugh and His Accuser Say They’re Willing to Testify."

The NYT reports.

AND: Trump is fine with it:
Mr. Trump vigorously defended his nominee, calling him an “outstanding” judge with an unblemished record, and dismissing as “ridiculous” the prospect that Judge Kavanaugh might withdraw his nomination. Still, he told reporters that he was willing to accept a delay in the judge’s path to confirmation in order to air the new information.

“He is somebody very special; at the same time, we want to go through a process, we want to make sure everything is perfect, everything is just right,” Mr. Trump told reporters at the White House. “If it takes a little delay, it will take a little delay — it shouldn’t certainly be very much.”

Republicans are too stupid and timid to deal with Democrat infamy. Also Republicans are easily betrayed because their betrayers don’t end up dead.

Mark Judge was a fall down drunk. Ford chose her targets wisely. The 65 girls who said Brett never groped them unwillingly didn't say Judge was also a great guy.

High School Judge isn't going to come off good at all. Kavanaugh was his friend so he's going to get dirty from this.

I'd like to see Kavanaugh give a full-throated defense of his high school friend. But Kavanaugh is a weasel.

They've already decided to take a pass, so... can we get to the vote?

She could actually remember such an incident, but that doesn't mean:

1) it actually happened.
2) it was Kavanagh and not someone else. She forgets a lot of the other details.
3) it was anything all that bad. (Her clothes never came off, he didn't put his hand under them, and it was over quickly - pretty standard for teenagers at a party with alcohol)
4) it matters now 35 years later.
5) it should change anyone's vote. It should not.

He should simply say that he has no idea why she is saying this, but she is mistaken. If it happened, it was not him. And that's all he needs to say. What else can you say if you were not there?

What about the infinite hypothetical crimes and possible victims of Kavsnaugh? Will we have the time and compassion to deal with them?

Well, if Mark Judge gets to testify too, then so does one of Ford's classmates. Wait-why just one?

Off we go....

If the FBI won't investigate, I know just the guy!!

This thing is not going to sit and stew until Monday. Dems have a plan. All they needed was for Grassley to postpone the vote.

Done.

My question to y'all ...
Who is playing long game and has the strategy for it?
What is the game?
How long have they planned and prepared for it?

I'm not sure of the reasoning behind the "good!" assessment. ?

Not a commentary on K's guilt or innocence, but there's going to come a time soon when a nominee or candidate will admit to what he's been accused of and people will have to decide what to do.

mccullough said...

"Good" means the drama will be good. This is porno for political junkies and Supreme Court watchers.

"A high tech-lynching of Uppity Blacks" is the greatest line in the history of Senate hearings. That "have you no decency sir at long last" bullshit isn't even close.

I don't think Kavanaugh has what it takes like Thomas did. But I'm open to the possibility.

I think that this today is a travesty. I think that it is disgusting. I think that this hearing should never occur in America. This is a case in which this sleaze, this dirt, was searched for by staffers of members of this committee, was then leaked to the media, and this committee and this body validated it and displayed it at prime time over our entire nation.

How would any member on this committee, any person in this room, or any person in this country, would like sleaze said about him or her in this fashion? Or this dirt dredged up and this gossip and these lies displayed in this manner? How would any person like it?

The Supreme Court is not worth it. No job is worth it. I am not here for that. I am here for my name, my family, my life, and my integrity. I think something is dreadfully wrong with this country when any person, any person in this free country would be subjected to this.

This is not a closed room. There was an FBI investigation. This is not an opportunity to talk about difficult matters privately or in a closed environment. This is a circus. It's a national disgrace.

And from my standpoint as a black American, as far as I'm concerned, it is a high-tech lynching for uppity blacks who in any way deign to think for themselves, to do for themselves, to have different ideas, and it is a message that unless you kowtow to an old order, this is what will happen to you. You will be lynched, destroyed, caricatured by a committee of the U.S. -- U.S. Senate, rather than hung from a tree.

mccullough said...

Kavanaugh needs to call Ford a liar. Bold colors. No legalese bullshit. No "she must have mistaken me for the actual person who assaulted her."

I don't think he has the balls to do it. He's been a weasely careerist his whole life.

Preview of Monday's hearing.

The only reason Judge should testify is because Ms. Ford put him in the room with Kavenaugh. She's actually accused him (although its typically fuzzy) of helping Kavenaugh with the assault. But of course, no one cares about him.

OTOH, instead of testifying, maybe he could just send in a sworn statement, re-stating his denial.

Still get chills reading it.

An "elite" private school isn't Central City High and there would not be that many private parties to choose between for 15-17 year olds in the small group that included the known kids mentioned. Ms. Ford also actually left quite a few clues such as the private residence and its layout, the other two boys and a girl who left earlier, etc. It kind of sounds like the leftovers after a larger party broke up.

By this time Kavanaugh is not the only person wishing to know just exactly who, what, when, why, and how, and it really would not be that hard to find out if you are willing and able to pay the bill.

Talking points tonight is that Ford MUST be treated with kid gloves. No tough questions.

Hey, Libs. If your reputation and career was on the line would you want your lawyer to take s dive?

Rabel said...

One correction - Lawyer Katz said that it wasn't her client's job to corroborate the evidence, not that it wasn't the lawyer's job. That was in reference to a question as to whether the client, Ford, had contacted any of the other people she claimed were at the party.

Also, the 45 or 64 sex partners in high school claim about Ford is almost certainly internet bullshit. Show me different. You weaken the case against her with this sort of crap.

THE LETTER;

Dear Senator Feinstein;

I am writing with information relevant in evaluating the current nominee to the Supreme Court.

As a constituent, I expect that you will maintain this as confidential until we have further opportunity to speak.

Brett Kavanaugh physically and sexually assaulted me during high school in the early 1980’s. He conducted these acts with the assistance of REDACTED.

Both were one to two years older than me and students at a local private school.

The assault occurred in a suburban Maryland area home at a gathering that included me and four others.

Kavanaugh physically pushed me into a bedroom as I was headed for a bathroom up a short stair well from the living room. They locked the door and played loud music precluding any successful attempt to yell for help.

Kavanaugh was on top of me while laughing with REDACTED, who periodically jumped onto Kavanaugh. They both laughed as Kavanaugh tried to disrobe me in their highly inebriated state. With Kavanaugh’s hand over my mouth I feared he may inadvertently kill me.

From across the room a very drunken REDACTED said mixed words to Kavanaugh ranging from “go for it” to “stop.”

At one point when REDACTED jumped onto the bed the weight on me was substantial. The pile toppled, and the two scrapped with each other. After a few attempts to get away, I was able to take this opportune moment to get up and run across to a hallway bathroom. I locked the bathroom door behind me. Both loudly stumbled down the stair well at which point other persons at the house were talking with them. I exited the bathroom, ran outside of the house and went home.

I have not knowingly seen Kavanaugh since the assault. I did see REDACTED once at the REDACTED where he was extremely uncomfortable seeing me.

I have received medical treatment regarding the assault. On July 6 I notified my local government representative to ask them how to proceed with sharing this information . It is upsetting to discuss sexual assault and its repercussions, yet I felt guilty and compelled as a citizen about the idea of not saying anything.

I am available to speak further should you wish to discuss. I am currently REDACTED and will be in REDACTED.

In confidence, REDACTED.

One thing that could be checked is whether Ford's parents were members of Columbia Country Club. It would be significant if they weren't because Ford says news about parties often spread there so she at least must often have been there.

All I have seen is a tweet on twitter, possibly a joke as an example of unsubstantiated allegations.

Legitimate concern is whether Dems have other party participants lined up already.

"Why not subpoena the therapist ?"

A few problems there.

1. The records are confidential unless Ford agrees to unconditional release.

2. Therapist notes tend to be very vague for liability reasons. They will tell you nothing.

3. Therapist tend to write what the client says. It is uncritical.

4. Therapist tend to be very left wing and strong believers in bullshit pop psychology.

Let her have her say, let someone who knows what he/she is doing cross-examine her, and let Kavanaugh say under oath that it wasn't him, and let him be cross-examined. Don't bring in Judge or Ford's ex-therapist or anybody else. And then VOTE. If the Senate fails to confirm Kavanaugh, I can't think of a better reason for a normal person to vote Republican come November.

Yancey Ward said...

I pity the Senate Republicans here- they are simply too fucking stupid to see what is coming. They really believe Monday's hearing will be the last of it.

Yancey Ward said...

The Senate Republicans are the Washington Generals, the Senate Democrats are the Globetrotters- it really is that simple.

With a week to work with and a public hearing, do you really believe the Democrats can't come up with 5 "corroborators" for Ford? Do you really think they wouldn't come up with another surprise allegation after Monday's hearing is closed and another committee vote is scheduled?

The only way to win a battle like this is to not fight on the Democrats terrain, but the Senate leadership is too stupid to understand this. I hope I am completely wrong here, but I don't the Republicans in the Senate have a plan here to deal with this- caving is their only resort.

Yancey Ward said...

And every "corroborator" will have to be investigated and have their own hearing scheduled. The Democrats are playing to win, the Republicans are, at best, trying to not lose, and my opinion of them is actually quite a bit lower than that- they are actively trying to lose.

mccullough said...

Kavanaugh is the GOP establishment’s Guy. If he goes down in flames, it’s on them. If McConnell can’t get Kavanaugh through then he needs to resign. And Kavanaugh will need to resign from the bench. It does the GOP no good to have a bunch of losers hanging around. The Bushes aren’t president anymore.

mccullough said...

The Democrats are morons too. You don’t get this level of debt and $375 billion trade deficit with China and 13 million illegal aliens without both parties being filled with idiotic corrupt jagoffs.

Mitt Romney is running for the Senate for fuck’s sake. He’s the John Kerry of the GOP. A total fucking fop. They guy just won’t go away.

And these other rats just stay in DC after they leave office. Fucking Boehner is on the board of a marijuana company. These people will do anything for a few dollars more. Dem or GOP it doesn’t matter.

Fuck them all.

Trump and Conway don't need to have anything additional.

They know the democrats are driving a solid majority of voters to a driving rage with their complete amorality and constant attacks on the foundations of the republic.

Dianne Feinstein should have to record her in kind contribution to the Republican party.

There are decent people I know who usually vote democrat. This is demoralizing to them. It is indefensible. I asked a couple of them if they would like this to happen to their father.

This is not helping democrats. Their turnout in concentrated urban centers based on various illegal voters will be excellent. This is not playing out well in the suburbs. Democrats need to have 3 million more votes to hold what they have in the house.

They are going to get wiped out.

Meh. Ben Sasse is a traiotor who will betray Nebraska at some point. Probably not this time because Flake and Corker will take the fall this time and are already broken. Grassley is soft.

I doubt Lee or Cruz will be caught off guard.

And Trump is playing this out perfectly.

This is a long fight and you need to start looking forward to this sort of thing. The democrats picked a fight that will hurt them over the long run. Everyone knows this is bullshit.

If Kavanaugh goes down with 49 votes Republicans will have over 60 seats in the senate in January and McCain Flake and Corker will all be gone.
