The lesser partner in a hotel-based tryst needs the dominant one to pay the hotel bill.

"The U.S. is trying to find a discreet way to pay for Kim Jong Un’s hotel during the summit" (WaPo).
At an island resort off the coast of Singapore, U.S. event planners are working day and night with their North Korean counterparts to set up a summit designed to bring an end to Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons program....

The prideful but cash-poor pariah state requires that a foreign country foot the bill at its preferred lodging: the Fullerton, a magnificent neoclassical hotel near the mouth of the Singapore River, where just one presidential suite costs more than $6,000 per night.

Get Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos or the Koch brothers to pay for it. Chump change for them and good publicity. Or Hell, Just have Trump pay for it privately.

DOesn't the US Secret Service regularly shut down whole hotels for the president anyway? Use whatever fund we used to pay for Michelle Obama's trip to Spain where they took over hotels and closed the beach.

They should just "pay" him the standard government daily reimbursement rate that any employee would get and which is IRS approved.

About $93 a day or for extra special hotels $253 a day. If the hotel is more....suck it.

No per deim for food though. That would break the bank, looking at Little Kim.

Why is the Washington Post and presumably leakers in the White House trying to nuke this summit? Is it more important to bring down Trump than to end the Korean War?

So we have a limited perspective on the potential costs of making some deal between the interested parties.

What, pray tell, would the cost savings of having a less antagonistic North Korea be over the next decade?

Despite Drago's obfuscating blathering here, the point is pretty straightforward, a country that can't afford to pay a hotel bill is not a country that should be allowed to blackmail the world's largest economy into a meeting with its leader. It is just nuts.

There are two possibilities:
i) NK is a poor as it says, in which case they are just a client state of China, a tool the Chinese use to poke the US on regular occasions. If this is the case we should deal directly with China and ignore the middle man.

ii) Alternatively, they are a genuine threat, independent of China. This is a country that has threatened us with nuclear annihilation, and taken significant steps to deliver on that threat. In this case, we should really fuck them over. What we shouldn't be doing is providing a paid vacation in Singapore.

I think the first option is closest to reality. There is no way, that I can see, that NK is operating independently of China.

The worst thing that could happen in ARM’s world would be for the Korean War to end and not having it be Obama the Obsequious get it done, or even think it was possible. OK, that’s an exaggeration, I am sure that there are many worse things. For instance, black unemployment could reach record lows and blacks may begin to notice it. Or the US could stop Canada from transhipping cheap Chinese steel under the guise of “adding value.” We all know China has a problem in that they built way too many steel mills on account of they are so smart by having a directed economy. We know that they have to do something with all of that steel. We know that if our Canadian friends have been helping China out with that problem, that the proper thing to do is just overlook it. That’s what Obama did.

It’s also why Obamism lost Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin. So if we are going to get rid of Trump, he is going to have to help us along here!

Is it likely that China wants Lil" Kim to give up his rockets and atomic weapons and reintegrate with South Korea?

Lil' Kim messed up his nuclear testing which created an unstable, radioactive mountain near China. And North Korea, China's starving, parasite-ridden slave-labor camp-filled client-state isn't exactly an ad which will entice other Asian states to join China in some kind of "Silk Road co-prosperity sphere." So I think the Chinese have decided that North Korea will reform. They've, maybe, left it to Lil' Kim to get the best deal he can. I'm sure they'd like the US to pay to rebuild North Korea and Kim to keep his nuclear arsenal and to have parity with the leader of South Korea on all legislation. But do they really think that North Korea can liberalize and keep its "citizens" in the North? Or do they just think that, come what may, North Korea must liberalize? I mean, when they were telling Rocket Man to go south and deal, why didn't they give him the money for his hotel? if they wanted him, leader of North Korea, their client state since 1952, to look good. Boy pacwest, you seem to forget. No other sitting President would give the North Korean totalitarian the legitimacy of a face-to-face meeting. Why not? Because he refused preconditions.

Ah, but Trump, so desperate for a big win that will finally give HIM legitimacy, gives it away to Kim Jong Un. And no preconditions, huh.

I remember how righties got their panties all in a bunch when Obama said he would meet the commies without preconditions. Ha ha ha ha! Now they just drool over themselves as they sell out their integrity and their principles. What a joke. How sad for our poor country.

Only now the mass murderer has the ICBMs. And Trump ... sings his praises and invites him to the White House. Big improvement.

Exactly. I’m glad you understand the predicament that those other guys put us in.

But a nice dodge.

Yeah. It’s not different. You think the “righties” were idiots, and then you adopt their position.

You bet. No negotiations until he agrees to give up his nukes.

But we have a new president.

Just amazing, the liberal comments there and here. Trump is (maybe) going to pull off the most incredible foreign policy coup of our lifetimes, and people are right there sneering to the end.
Maybe that's the right play in game theory, though, because if Trump does succeed their side is buried, no matter what they said. They may as well go all in.

It was so much easier just to ship money to our enemies.

This is just another globalist that is realizing his time is done.

Have fun with your open borders, support for Hamas Iran and MS-13, repeal the second amendment platform during the midterms.

We will be running on actual working class wage growth and the return of manufacturing jobs.

Why aren't you all talking about a blue wave anymore?

You will cheerfully break all ten of your fingers with a hammer before you'd ever type something along the lines of a "well done" for Trump.

This is why you guys are always wrong about everything, because you are so rigid and formulaic in your thinking you think everyone else thinks in the same limited way that you do.

If Kim came out tomorrow and said he was going to give up all his nukes and actually did so how would this affect my world view, much less destroy it? I am the first to acknowledge that I don't fully understand Kim's motivations. He and his regime have been very consistent in their behavior in the past but these kinds of dictatorships are always fragile and when they break they tend to break in unpredictable ways. That is part of my world view. This being said, the odds of this happening do not appear very high at the moment, but not zero either.

'Legitimacy' and $7.50 will get you a cup of coffee. I don't understand how 'face to face' is considered a win for Kim. Is Trump going to give him an autographed picture or something?

"And no preconditions, huh."

Besides total denuclearzation, or continuing military and economic pressure you mean?

Drago said...

ARM: "This is why you guys are always wrong about everything,..."

Its like the last 10 years never happened at all.....LOL

Not to mention ARM thinks it was industrialusts who negotiated all US Trade deals which locked in foreign nations tariff and trade imbalance advantages along with national policies designed to crush US domestic business in key industries.

Just another day in lefty History Began This Morning-Ville.

Interesting. ARM starts the day angry and insulting. I wonder what is going on in his world that is upsetting the poor dear ?

The news has been pretty good for my side.

The ridiculous subsidies for "Green Energy" seem to be on the down escalator. Coal and nuclear are about to resume their essential role as base power sources.

The Nork negotiations are promising.

The "Blue Wave" seems to be leaking out of the porta potty.

The fall election sounds more promising every week.

What could be making ARM so nasty ?

It’s a ridiculous argument. The only reason I can think of that Kim would give us everything we want before we even meet is if he was under attack today. I guess this is what ARM et al. think is the best course.
