The [prosecutors'] report said that Cortani’s age and the fact she had dealt with [Carlo] Tavecchio in the past, meant she would not have been in a state of fear or subjugation.
Elisabetta Cortani was 50.
In one allegation, Cortani describes going to Tavecchio’s office in May 2015 to ask him about some sports clubs joining the football federation. According to Cortani, Tavecchio approached and began touching her breasts and said: ‘You look good! You have great tits there!’ while trying to kiss her on her lips. Cortani, the report alleged, said she was shocked by his behaviour, pretended to ignore him, and left the room.
In August 2016, Cortani wore a hidden camera to a meeting with Tavecchio about a team’s application to a regional championship. According to the complaint, Tavecchio, closed the door behind him and began talking to her in a vulgar way, using an expletive to ask whether she had a lot of sex. He tried to push her on the couch and began kissing her, Cortani said, and began to grope her breasts; this action turned the camera off, though the audio continued. She wriggled away from him.

More than most western countries, Italy struggles with the idea that women should not be sexually harassed. It is a big part of why they are such a backward country in other areas as well.
The darn Guardian doesn't even have a picture of her. That's why they have to cadge donations from readers. How about the Daily Mail?
Soon after they married in 1955, my mother followed my dad's ship around the Med. Unaccompanied women were "fair game" in many areas. Two British poofs protected her on a 2nd class voyage from Naples to Barcelona, where she went directly to a hotel. My father didn't know where she was, so he walked around and eventually heard her calling to him from an upper window.
Tomorrow’s headline: Bill Clinton To Relocate To Italy.
Who knew Bill Clinton was Italian?
Nothing in the Daily Mail. I smell a rat. The Guardian appears to have an exclusive on this.
A timely knee to the groin works better than tedious lawsuit.
By coincidence I'm heading for Italy in 2019. At my age (hell, even when I was a young pup) a 50 year old women can look fine.
How do I figure out this judges jurisdiction?
She's a wriggler, this one. Pretty sexy.
He may have been a cad and a bounder, but he was her cad and bounder. And I'm sure Italians have a proverb about old hens. Besides making good broth.
using an expletive to ask whether she had a lot of sex.
There must be an Italian word. Fuckalino or something.
Italian judges can be just as goofy as Hawaiian or 9th Circuit Court judges. Goofier even.
Well, I'll grant you those problematic aspects of Italian culture. But overall I've found Italians to be among the most friendly, charming, and hospitable people in the world. They are especially welcoming to outsiders, travelers, and tourists. They are highly civilized in the best way, in their own way. I love the country and the people.
Ah, Italy. Where people see Harvey Weinstein as the victim.
Ah, Italy. Where people see Harvey Weinstein as the victim.
The #MeToo cult hasn't taken off everywhere. Some places still have men and women.
I'm holding comment until I hear from our resident dullard and grope judge and jury #IngaKnew. Although I'm sure final determination will depend on whether Carlo Tavecchio conviction would help or hinder the Democratic Party cause.
Ruling on Tight Jeans and Rape Sets Off Anger in Italy
“After 20 years of intense political and social debate, Italy amended its antiquated rape laws three years ago, toughening the punishment for sexual assault and reclassifying it from a moral offense to a criminal felony. That long-awaited change was widely viewed not just as a feminist victory, but also as a sign that Italian society had overcome old biases and deeply entrenched cultural taboos.
“Then came the ‘denim defense,’ or what Italian lawmakers are calling the ‘jeans alibi’ -- a court ruling that suggested that a woman cannot be raped if she is wearing jeans because, the ruling contended, they are impossible to remove unless she helps. That decision -- and the country's reaction to it -- has reopened an angry debate about rape and about how judges view sexual assault."
I thought Democrats wanted America to become more like Europe? This woman needs to STFU because Italy has "free" healthcare.
It wasn't too long ago, we were being told by our betters that we needed to be more like Europe.
No wonder Berlusconi tool hold in Italy.
It is interesting that some people can't distinguish europe and Italy, even though they have no trouble distinguishing California and Texas.
Guess I'm one of those people

You might read Dalrymple's essay "The Uses of Corruption" which points out that Italy is more prosperous than Britain.
Now, half a century later, it is lower than in Britain, and Italians in general live longer and healthier lives than Britons. Not only is Italy noticeably richer than Britain, but it is also considerably cleaner. Recently, the newspaper La Repubblica carried an article wondering why the British food supply was so unclean and unsafe.
This is an astonishing reversal: for two and a half centuries at least, Britain was much richer than Italy in almost everything except its past. Britons pitied and condescended to their Italian contemporaries. Italy was a country of inexhaustible charm, sybaritic pleasure, and cultural wealth, of course, but it was not to be taken quite seriously in an economic or political sense. Even Mussolini concluded toward the end of his life that Italy was not really a serious country.
But you won't.
"Mi scusi."
MK I think that article out of date. Italy has not recovered from Great Recession like US and UK. Of course contrast N and S Italy exceeds N and S Britain.
Italian mothers coddle their sons far into adulthood. This does not make for a good society.

This is correct. But the differences between the big four Germany, France, UK and Italy in terms of GDP growth over the last forty years are not as great as the stereotypes lead you to predict either. Germany and France have had very similar economic performance, which surprised me. Italy is currently an outlier but may still come back over a longer time window.
Re: Michael K:
Rather makes me want to visit Italy. Haven't been since I was a small child. Although kinsmen who have visited of late say that the main cities are growing squalid thanks to the migrant problem.

Good point but I think Britain has declined, too.
I have not been in Italy since 2006 but it was doing very well at that point.
Britain is self segregating. The English are moving south into the triangle south west of Bristol and Southhampton.
I was there in 2015 and the situation is interesting. They may go to London to work, but they live south west.
North Italy is still doing well. South, not so much.
When my French great-aunt, who lived in Nice, used to visit Italy, the Italian men would pinch her bottom even when she was in her 60s! And she was never, even in her younger years, much of a looker.
Reminds me of an old joke from Mad Magazine: "Is it true that Italian men pinch women on the Via Veneto?"
"No, they pinch them all over."
Hey, it's funny if you're twelve.
People love Italy and Italians. They also have GDP the equal of England.
They also don't have the weird death wish that the English have. Immigration will be stopped, and Italy will remain Italy.
Given $10 million who would live in England when they could live in Italy?
The Wogs begin at Southampton.
Per IMF UK GDP is $2,936B while Italy GDP is $2,182B. Not the same. The Great Recession really made a difference. Admittedly, UK also pulling away from Italy in population (66M v. 61M), so per capita gap not quite as big.
As for where to live, as someone who moved from the Tri-State area to SoCal, yeah I prefer Mediterranean clime.
"The Wogs begin at Southampton."
Our friends, when we stayed with them in Chichester, told me we would see all traditional English faces when we walked on the High Street.
He said, "If you see a brown face it is an NHS doctor."
The faces we saw looked the same as those we saw in London in 1977.
Per IMF UK GDP is $2,936B while Italy GDP is $2,182B. Not the same.
readering, you really should read that Dalrymple essay I linked to. His point was that Italy while appearing to be poorer than Britain, is much wealthier
The Italians don't report all their income ! That was the point of the essay.
Reading would be good for you.
Carlo Ponti got caught about 25 years ago. He must have made some bureaucrat angry or jealous.
Imagine, in three years time FLOTUS will be out of the White House AND fair game for Italian gropers.
