"I REALLY DON'T CARE. DO U?"

Come on, that must be fake! But no, "Melania Trump wears a $39 jacket with 'I REALLY DON'T CARE, DO U?' scrawled on the back as she boards plane to visit immigrant children at the Texas border - but insists there is 'no hidden meaning' in her choice/The first lady wore the khaki green Zara jacket upon arrival at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland but changed before she disembarked the plane in Texas...  Melania, 48, visited a shelter for children in McAllen, Texas, the day after her husband signed executive order ending policy of family separation for illegals/Her spokeswoman said it was her idea to visit before the president signed his executive order and he supported her trip...." (Daily Mail).

How does that happen? What sense does it make? Generally, serious people making public appearances avoid wearing clothes with any written messages on them. It simply must be intentional. So why? What does it mean?

First, I assume, that she (and whoever worked with her on that jacket selection) wanted the image to go viral, as it has. It's in your face: Here, think about this, talk about this, assail me over this as I know you will.

Take that one step forward: I know you'll find a way to attack me, like for the wrong shoes or whatever, so let me make this easy for you. Let me have written on my back the precise statement you're looking to project onto me: I really don't care. It doesn't matter what I do. That's what you'll bend over backwards to find a way to say, so let me save you the trouble of straining yourself.

But if you get through that first phrase — "I really don't care" — you'll have to confront the rest of it: "DO U?" What are you doing here, photographing me, attacking me? You're doing the Theater of Empathy, but it's all political. You act like you care because it's useful to look that way, but you don't really care, DO U?

And then, step back, what exactly is Melania saying she doesn't really care about? The children? But she's here to see them first hand. (Yeah, she's doing the Theater of Empathy too.) Maybe what she's saying she doesn't care about is what you haters think of her. She has her shell of uncaring. I mean, why was that jacket made like that? Who was it for, that $39 jacket? I think it was made for people who want to feel self-sufficent and sure of their own values and mission and to let the would-be critics know the wearer of the jacket is on her own, doing what she thinks is right, and nothing you say can shake her.

ADDED: Over the past couple weeks, there's been so much anxiety about showing that you care and so much shaming about insufficient caring. To say "I really don't care" is an amazing counterpoint. It may be experienced by some people as a deep breath of fresh air. It's okay not to care. Maybe we don't have to jump at the intense demand to express caring. Do something that actually helps somebody, and enough with the noise about how much you care. "I really don't care" that you say you care, she says, and I wonder if you really even do.

Twenty minutes ago, Inga, you wished her divorce and despair in her marriage to Trump, salivating over the prospect of extreme marital discord. Quite the friend you are to her.

Peter Fonda just got finished wishing her son stolen and raped by multiple men. Lots of people on your political side agreed or LOLed at the prospect.

So why exactly, with something that incredibly despicable, do you think that Melania shouldn't change her mind about appealing to people like you, Inga?

You think you can show cut off heads of her husband, have people wishing her son should be stolen and raped, that you criticize EVERY FUCKING THING she does...but she should care about YOU, no matter how much ill and misery you aim her way.

If this was a message to you, Inga, you deserve it.

Inga...Allie Oop said...

“So why the hell SHOULD she give a fuck what you want from her, Inga?”

I’m pretty sure most normal people in the public eye, who want the best for their young children, don’t go out of their way to wear jackets with hateful sayings on it to go see children she’s supposedly caring enough about to go down there in person for. Why would it be a good thing for her and her son to be despised? She doesn’t need to care what I or anyone thinks of her, but I suspect she does care what the American people do think of her. Either she gave her hubby a big FU or she’s a hateful hypocritical woman. I’d like to believe the best about her.

Inga...Allie Oop said...

There's another possibility. How long was she wearing it? Was it raining? Did someone hand her the jacket to go a short distance in unexpected rain? In that case, did she know what was on it?

This whole kid thing is a great learning experience for foreign seekers of US residence, if a popular Democrat President applies the law, you are screwed. If an orange Repub president applies the same law you are f***ing golden. Choose your illegal immigration era carefully.

I think that as an affirmative action effort, 50% of illegal immigrant places should be reserved for folks in other continents who can't just walk here, they should be given free plane tickets so they can have equal opportunity to climb the wall. Handicapped access should be provided so they can ride an elevator over the barbed wire.

That is the point. Peter Fonda did not suffer any sort of correction while Roseanne had the most popular show on TV canceled. Peter Fonda still has Twitter privileges. He did not suffer one whit for what he did. Inga and ARM and Chuck and all the rest are perfectly fine with this.

Melania knows that her child is a target. That she is a target. No matter what she does. These scumbags bleat about decency but they have attacked her and her son since the minute the President was elected.

Why should she care what they think. They hate her and her child. They prove it every day.

I like her. She single handedly changed the subject.

The most remarkable thing Trump has done is remove the media from policy discussions. Every piece of legislation over at least the last fifty years was written with an eye on how it would look on the front page of the NYT or Washington Post.

This frenzy is an attempt to define the presidency. Melania says I don't care. Do you? Then visits the kids.

The media and the frenzy are background noise easily ignored. Do the best to solve the problem. No matter what anyone does short of removing the border will be criticised. So ignore them.

We will see if it works. I think it will.

The senior Customs and Border Protection official quoted in this story was describing how the agency’s operations would change to no longer refer parents of migrant children for prosecution. Decisions whether or not to prosecute are the purview of the Department of Justice."

Which reads: "“We’re suspending prosecutions of adults who are members of family units until ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] can accelerate resource capability to allow us to maintain custody,” the official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to explain how the agency has interpreted and implemented Trump’s order."

Here's Rich Lowry's take on what the Wash. Post reported:

This Washington Post piece caused a little confusion and had to be corrected, but the basic thrust of it is correct. Customs and Border Protection isn’t going to refer adults with children for prosecution, thus ending the application of “zero tolerance” to adults with kids. No mechanism currently exists to get people from DHS custody to courthouses for court dates, so there is no plausible way to hold families together while prosecuting adults. Plus, the adults who were going over to criminal custody will be transferred over to already overwhelmed DHS facilities, meaning lots of people will simply be released.

The administration will probably try to rapidly build tent cities and hold migrants in 20-day increments, hoping they will come up with a way to criminally charge the adults and resolve asylum claims quickly, but this seems unlikely (and the optics will open it up to continued attack). The administration hasn’t just lost this battle in a rout, but in a manner that may harm its cause in the larger war over immigration policy and enforcement. It’s quite simply a debacle.

Inga...Allie Oop said...

“So what happened to their Zero Tolerance policy? Well, good news anyway, it seems.”

Matthew. Sigh. I ASKED what happened to the Zero Tolerance policy. I did not say it was rescinded. You ASSUMED that is what I meant by good news. What I mean by good news is that they are no longer referring parents with children for PROSECUTION. Stop fucking assuming. Stop babbling at me.

Matt Sablan said...

If you did not mean to imply that the Washington Post was backing off Zero Tolerance, then, please, next time -- be more clear. If you did not mean to imply that this afternoon, the Trump Administration said they would no longer refer people for prosecution and did not mean to question what happened to the Zero Tolerance policy -- OK. In addition, it served as the legal machinery for splitting children from parents who were accompanying them across the border. Since the crackdown began in May, border agents have separated about 2,300 children from their families.“

I just also happen to make note of your reflexive, passionate, near-religious devotion to each and every leftist narrative and meme that comes across the wires.

But not to worry, you are obviously a lifelong republican.

Obviously.

Why, you even say so. Repeatedly.

Good enough for me!

I'm certain Maddow is pleased to have such a strong republican in her fan club. Who wouldn't?

Drago, I called the mainstream media response to this story, crying child photos and all, "hysterical."

And I called the Trump Administration policy "legally and technically defensible."

What nobody is falling for, is your stalking me with moronic repetitions of how I am a leftist.

No, you are a globalist shill.

Whether you are a leftist or not doesn't matter.

You are on their side.

Remember in 2014 when Nancy Pelosi thought politicizing child detention centers was a bad idea.

We get it lefties.

You are amoral opportunists.

Keep it up.

Thus far in fact, the Trump admin has yet to weaponize the law enforcement and intelligence agencies against its domestic political opponents.

But I'm sure the Trumpites are "willing to learn" to use democrat/lefty/LLR pre-approved and pre-tested tactics.....

Go fuck yourself and your oppressive victimology martyr complex, shaheed. Ain't no right-winger I ever heard of sought to decrease the number of school shootings and police violence incidents (although at least the cocks are trying to decrease the incarceration state) but other than that all you stupid fuckers see violence as the answer to everything love using the state to achieve that end while pissing and moaning about how oppressed you all are. It's repellent and ugly which I know you like but don't piss in our ears and tell us it's raining outside. PUSSY.

Dreck-O took a well-needed break from his regular obsessive-compulsive conformity policing and partisan-ideological mind-control enforcement of Chuck's renegade Republicanism to complain about how the right-wing incarceration and police brutality state was not as oppressive as how the "left" was using it.

You can't make this stuff up. These people show up to argue about how stupid and delusional they can be. At this point I literally expect right-wingers to start carrying out self-amputations and complaining about how "the left" forced them to do it. They really aren't any different from Muslim terrorists in how they blame their atrocities on how it's the fault of "others" for "driving them to it." No sense of responsibility whatsoever. They all need to be beaten about the face with heavy mining equipment and given something to really cry about.

Your long explanatory post makes it clear she there for herself, and she does care - about herself. And that’s it.

President Pee-Pee Tape, they're different from the Muslim terrorists in one important respect: they care about the good, the truth and beauty, and they're searching for it. if you don't see that, indeed the methods and the patterns and the propaganda all look the same.

It's a fuck you to people like Peter Fonda and the major Media News who are always attacking the Trumps. I don't blame her. They suck, and they are the ones who are dividing everybody and formenting the hate.....

Right. So I am indeed a lifelong Republican. And Donald Trump is not. Nor is Ann Althouse, for that matter. And Scott Adams; not a lifelong Republican, and not even a current Republican. Instead, he's a Trump cultist.

And again, Drago. I congratulated Rachel Maddow one time, and for one thing only. Her brilliant interview with Kellyanne Conway about some of Trump's statements on foreign relations, strategic alliances and nuclear weapons. I even gave Kellyanne Conway for having done a fine job of acquitting herself in the interview. With the only person coming out of the interview as an indefensible oaf being Donald Trump. I wrote about that on these pages the day after the interview aired. And later, the interview was awarded the Emmy for best news interview of the year.

From that, you have tried to make me an all-around everyday Maddow fan. It's a lie on your part and you know it.

So LLR Chuck has picked up the “Trump cultist” meme...

Kevin, I regarded Trumpism as a Cult of the Personality about a year before Senator Bob Corker ever said anything about it. LLR Bob Corker.

Yes. Inga, without mansplaining, let me show you the clearest evidence that your side is losing : Chuck doesn't want to play.

But, you can see how by reading what you wrote, people might assume you were doing those two things.

No. She can't. And that's the problem.
She doesn't even understand what she writes.

And then she gets indignant when people point it out.
