I am almost not rooting for the Patriots. Probably will change when the game starts. My daughter in Boston is rooting against them because the parties when they win get out of hand, not that she will be watching the game.
Trying to decide. Just watched first episode of “Altered Carbon” on Netflix. Right now making shepherd’s pie for dinner. May go back to Netflix after dinner.
Police in Minneapolis were removing protesters who locked themselves across a light-rail line near U.S. Bank Stadium, temporarily halting trains carrying fans to the game. Activists protesting police brutality chained themselves along the Green Line carrying ticketholders to the Super Bowl on Sunday,
OMG! Disparagement of law enforcement! I do hope they used truncheons on the deplorable rabble!
After watching the Patriots all season, It’s hard to believe that they are as good statistically as they ended up. I guess cause they weren’t very good the first few games.
Waiting for the seemingly inevitable riots. News reports have Philly police putting [toxic] hydraulic fluid on the light poles. PA Department of Environmental Quality were not available for comment.
Patriots should not support the National Felons League.
They have become the property of pajama boy social justice warriors. They are afraid of the natives who dominate the sprot and will soon go the way of boxing.
Eagles catching the flu (or flu-like symptoms) could be an important factor.
N-95 or higher dusk masks reportedly blocks flu viruses. Nosk (in the nostrils) N95 filters are sold out unless ordered on Ebay from Korea.
Was in a Trader Joe's yesterday and the check-out guy was wearing food preparers gloves. Since I heard several customers on line hacking away, I asked if his gloves were to prevent giving or getting the flu. Giving he said.
A bread & circuses fake holiday for the nation's dumb asses. Prediction: The Super Bowl will eventually have to be moved to a Monday night game just because... That's when we'll have proof certain that American culture has jumped the shark. The NFL already has.
"Strange Things" is a pretty good show if you remember the 1980's. The creators rip off the style of such people as Speilberg, Stephen King and John Hughes. Still and all it is very entertaining. Two seasons to binge watch.
Article in the St. Paul Pioneer press addressed to superbowl visitors, advised them not to expect in-depth conversations from Minnesotans because they practice “word thrift.” Minnesotans are not terse or laconic; they are word thrifty. Great phrase.
@Bill, Republic of Texas: Altered Carbo" looks interesting after just one episode. I have not read the book but know a little about it. I checked the user reviews on IMDB before taking a look. Those who read the book thought it was really good, mostly 9/10 ratings. Overall rating is 8.7. Will watch ep 2 later tonight to see if I want to continue through all 10. Set design looks a lot like Blade Runner, one of my favorite SF movies.
My wife and I watch Netflix a lot. Original series are hit or miss, just like anything else. In the past year we have really enjoyed The Crown, Stranger Things, Narcos, Ozark, and most recently, Mindhunter.
The extended cut of the Dodge Ram Vikings commercial is hilarious! There's so much more context, especially when the Sirius radio shows the matchup: PHI vs. NE. The Vikings just look at each other and then do the U-turn!
Wife and I were eating dinner a little while ago. Game is on the TV in the next room, behind me.
Wife: Are you watching the game? Me: Sort of. Wife: Have you watched any of the commercials. Me: No, I was cooking. I'll catch them all later on YouTube. I don't think they are as good as they used to be. Nothing will ever be as memorable as the 1984 Apple commercial. Wife: 1984 Apple commercial? What was that? Me: You know, the one for 1984. With Big Brother on the screen. The girl runs in with the hammer and smashes the screen in front of all the drones in the audience. It announces the MacIntosh. Wife: Don't think I've ever seen it. Me: It has been re-played and parodied many times. Surely you've seen it. Wife: Don't think so. Me: (Bring up video on phone and hand to her). Wife: No, never seen it. Me: (Sigh)
How is Altered Carbon"?. I've been think of adding Netflix. But Everytime I look what is on Netflix nothing really stands out.
Any thoughts on worth of Netflix and what is worth watching.

IMO, Netflix has been knocking out of the part in terms of original programming. Depends on what kinds of shows you typically like, but here are some of my favorites:
Altered Carbon MindHunter Stranger Things Black Mirror Daredevil Punisher Peaky Blinders Dark Marco Polo The Crown Voltron Making a Murderer
t really hurts to hear you guys whine, just sayin’
Even if the Pats win tonight where is Brady going to wear his ring? It’s become sort of unmanly. “Box cut or pear shape, these rocks don’t lose their shape.”
Don't feel sorry for me, it's great, although there's not much programming over the air I like, it does work well with DVD's. Samsung TXP2670, eat your heart out.
Justin Timberlake is that annoying guy from high school that is confident the coach is going to make him the quarterback........because he has the cleanest uniform.
I'm having problems with my internet connection. I was trying to connect to the Althouse blog, but seem to have connected to some site where an insane guy repetitively posts gibberish.

They choreograph the hell out of these things. I suppose it makes sense. Moreso than a musical. They have to choose artists talented enough to dance, sing, play a piano, slice, dice, mince, etc.
The ads seemed aimed at Millenials this year. They make their heroes take glee in being treated as helpless sheep for the slaughter. But that is a terrible insult to them , saying you are so stupid you will fall for insanity.
Has anyone else noticed that Philadelphia has by far the better QB on the field.
If you can replay the National Anthem sung by Pink ( It's on Twitter). That was the best rendition that I have ever heard. The Trump effect is suddenly everywhere.
Pink is awesome. A Philly girl. They had to go with her. Not sure I have memories of a lot of Super Bowl anthems to compare to but I think/am sure she did fine.
While I agree that that was a touchdown, because I hate the new rules, all season long, that Philly touchdown would have been overturned. Collinsworth is right about that. We have seen stuff like that overturn completions all season long. Hell of a time to change the rules. Hopefully, if a close call like that comes for the Pats, they remember the new precedent.
A Netflix suggestion: the series W1A, from a few years back. Twenty or so half hour episodes about the BBC: the endemic doublespeak, the pandering to special interests, the falsehoods told and the inability to admit to them, the backstabbing amoral producers and writers of the 'media product', the venality of it all, narrated by Dr Who's David Tennant. I found it to be very amusing in parts.
DC gossip that makes sense,”Page was not target, of course. He was the Gray Man they hoped would get inside campaign strategy and polling info from casual conversations from Team Trump members.”
With FISA warrant FBI could look at all of his emails.
The reviews are killing the game. Along with all the other horse shit, but this is only the third game we are watching this year and we almost turned it off. And Collinsworth, SHUT TFU!

Tough to push racial tribalism in a colorblind society. But they need him as a hero.
If it's not you, what's your complaint about my comment?
You don't have to be black or be a leftist, progressive or Dem to take exception to your making an ignorant racist comment. And to your going on to prove afterward that you are an ignorant bigot.
By the way, the commercial quoted from a sermon given 50 years ago today - February 4, 1968.
The quoted part was about MLK talking about "a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love" and being great by being a servant to others.
Now what the hell does that have to do with Dodge trucks?? What the hell do all of these Christian ideas have to do with selling stuff?
It is nothing but cheap exploitation of both MLK and the Christian faith, using both for Dodge's crass commercial ends. It is wrong to use God and to use a martyred minister to sell crap.
It’s been a pretty good run since 2001 with all the Super Bowls, the WS championships, the Stanley Cup, and the NBA championship, so it’s hard to get too upset.
When I saw Brady slip that tackle and launch a Hail Mary to the tallest player on the field (Gronkowski) I thought there we go again. Well done Philly, for playing all the way to the end.
@Mark, you apparently misinterpreted my comment. Let it go.
To clarify: My comment referred to Dodge using MLK's voice. That upset a group of people who have reserved any likeness or voice of MLK. No one else can use it, especially a car company. Hence: "he's not our guy, we can't use his voice".
I didn't misinterpret your comment. You interjected race into something that had nothing to do with race. You, with your ignorant bigotry, made it a racial thing. No, you don't get a pass. You don't get to have "let go."
Hundreds of millions of dollars are bet on those games illegality. Surely a few crooked players could throw a game for a million. And that's one reason I don't watch them. I just sense the whole thing is a sham.

Never watching that again.
Go Pats!
Don't care. Won't watch.
Don't care.
I am doing an assignment on Black Box testing in Java.
Way more fun than watching a bunch of whiny millionaires bitch at me about how tough it is for them.
Hope the XFL does well though. I will follow that if they make it fun.

Virtue duly noted!
Thought the Lionel Ritchie "All Night Long" ad was nice. Low key. Intellectual.
They showed a few players not standing still and at attention. I don't care about hand over heart business. When did that start anyway?

NFL trying to score points with the Medal of Honor recipients?
Sure Eagles, because when I hear rap, I think of football.
Football used to be a way to get away from politics.
After watching the Patriots all season, It’s hard to believe that they are as good statistically as they ended up. I guess cause they weren’t very good the first few games.
Lost interest long before all this, but I'll monitor the discussion of the ads. I'll be very interested in the ratings as well.
One question: Can anyone buy a ticket to the Super Bowl these days? Or are they all snapped up by corporate sponsors and handed out?
Waiting for the seemingly inevitable riots. News reports have Philly police putting [toxic] hydraulic fluid on the light poles. PA Department of Environmental Quality were not available for comment.
Pink and Leslie Odom, Jr. were great.
Cpl. Willie Wilson did the coin toss. Medal of Honor for Iwo Jima.

Knee Deep in the Hoopla, for you Starship fans out there.
I liked the Sprint commercial with the artificial intelligence. My favorite so far.
OK, LOL
My goodness!
I'm not watching. Let us know when the snobby preening Audi commercial rolls.
God, will Sissy Spacechick get her freakin' hair out of her freakin' face?
That's odd. They just interrupted the commercials to show the game.
How rude.
Two excellent defenses not showing up.
Well end of first. See you in about half an hour for the start of the second.

Oh shit.
Helmet to helmet.
I know who's playing this year owing to having heard it a lot. Somebody's being paid to talk it up, I'd guess.
Hollywood #MeToo spending an awful lot of money.
No foul? This is why NFL rules are totally fucked up.
That’s a penalty if they catch it.
I guess not.
I protest Justin Timberlake at halftime without Janet Jackson!
Racism, Sexism and Boobism!
What the fuck? Hands of stone Brady!
Thanks a great couple of suggestions for Netflix. I think we'll do the 30 day free trial next time I have a few days off.

Or words to that effect. The actual quote was "There's no sense in doing a lot of barking if you don't really have anything to say."
If Cleveland cand dump Chief Wahoo, can the Pats dump Flying Elvis?
Didn't see anyone kneeling during the Anthem. Funny how the message gets out, when the powers that be want it to get out.
I'm not an Indians fan, but I'd almost like to get a Chief Wahoo cap just to stick a finger in the eye of political correctness.
The remote control is the greatest of modern inventions.

My favorite commercial from years past was the Doritos goat.
I've had only 2 Coronas, but I think I'm going for the Vodka at halftime.
Great call Coach Pederson!
More money is being spent on security for a football game than the rocket used to put Elon Musk's car into space.
"I grew up having to get up to change channels when commercials came on. Can you believe it?"
My family had a color TV with remote control in 1972. Of course, back then, the remote control was electromechanical rather than electronic.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlgSuaIHYsY
Super Bowl Trivia: Nick Foles was only 13 years old when Tom Brady got caught cheating the first time.
Hey, Pats, not quite ready to bring out the crape. But I do know where it is in the front closet.
I thought that the remote was voice activated in the ‘'60s, at least in my house. “Tim! Change the channel!”
t really hurts to hear you guys whine, just sayin’

Is Justin Timberlake going to expose some black woman's tittay again?
Wasn't it the last Eagles Super Bowl in 2005 when he did that last?
Justin Timberlake is starting to look like Screech from Saved by the Bell with this look.
Justin Timberlake is that annoying guy from high school that is confident the coach is going to make him the quarterback........because he has the cleanest uniform.
This halftime show is the reason why God created mute buttons.
I'm having problems with my internet connection. I was trying to connect to the Althouse blog, but seem to have connected to some site where an insane guy repetitively posts gibberish.
Good night all. Enjoy the game.
This is a terrible halftime show.
I enjoyed the way the Eagles showed the Pats hoe to run the fake end around pass to the wide open quarterback!
Did he buy his outfit at Cabella's??
I don’t get the appeal.
Tractor Supply.
That's a nice effect with the moving Prince image on that banner.
And all the purple outside.
They choreograph the hell out of these things. I suppose it makes sense. Moreso than a musical. They have to choose artists talented enough to dance, sing, play a piano, slice, dice, mince, etc.

As typos go, it had some appeal.
I think it's a fine show. Tasteful. Not over-the-top. Entertaining without trying to overshadow the main event.
They're trying to incorporate a lot of main street "average Joe"-looking types into the choreography. Matching the down-to-earth Minnesota style.
Their stadium's pretty cool, too.
Not watching. Catching up on work.
Shoveled a lot today.
Frankly, at this point, I'd affirmatively prefer to see Janet Jackson's boobs or even Jesse Jackson's.
My wife suggests in no uncertain terms. The Super Bowl halftime show sucked.
"Any thoughts on worth of Netflix and what is worth watching."
We watched "Clueless" and "Get Shorty" both excellent comedies.
I don't watch much but happened to this week.
Netflix:
Peaky Blinders
Black Mirror
Stranger Things
No one cares what you or your wife have to say about it. Or about Timberlake.
Curmudgeonly jealousy is really boring.
Could not decide whether to watch or not. Went to the gym. Oops. Game on every TV there.
Justin Timberlake did an outstanding halftime show. I especially like the Prince tribute.
I wouldn’t say far better, but the Philly defense is very very quick and not giving him any time in the pocket.
Timberlake's wife gives to the Wild Animal Sanctuary. I like her.
But he hasn’t been razor sharp, that’s for sure.
Duck Dynasty guys gotta be walking on air tonite seeing Justin Timberlake at the Super Bowl wearing camo.
If Trump can pull leftwing heads out of Soviet-era communist denial, Trump for the win.
If you can replay the National Anthem sung by Pink ( It's on Twitter). That was the best rendition that I have ever heard. The Trump effect is suddenly everywhere.
Loved the outdoor view with the Prince symbol.
The weird thing about Brady is that he never really looks brilliant, like Rogers, Big Ben, Wentz, all he does is win, a lot.
Plus it’s always a better team that comes out in the second half. Almost like the first half is just about studying the opponent. Probing, etc.
Pink is awesome. A Philly girl. They had to go with her. Not sure I have memories of a lot of Super Bowl anthems to compare to but I think/am sure she did fine.
It's a good Super Bowl. For what it's worth.
Interesting, after the years-ago breast exposure, to see how opposite-of-scantily-clad the dancers were.
My wife suggests in no uncertain terms. The Super Bowl halftime show sucked.
Nothing wrong with just having a marching band come on and play and march.
Westworld Season 2! April! Woot!
What the hell is "blackture"??
From 2 old figures - we liked JT.
Good use of the stadium. Not over the top.

The Eli Manning Dirty Dancing ad with Beckham was great!
Looks like the twitters are all a-twitter over the MLK Dodge trucks ad.
By all means watch Stranger Things, loved it!

Nothing will top the Super Bowl XXXVI halftime show.
Amazon, best commercial.
Sort of. despise them, but credit where credit is due.
Danny DeVito as the red M&M gets an honorable mention though.
Can't have a white honky car company celebrating MLK Jr. He's our guy.
What do you mean by that Humperdink?
If your going to say something bigoted, just be clear about it.
Real close, 33-32.
Atlanta fans calling Philly fans to give them warnings,
Riverboat gambler.
This is when teams take chances and picks happen.
A certain segment of society is upset that Dodge used the voice of MLK Jr. in their commercial. I'll leave to your fertile mind as to who.
That is a touchdown.
That has to be a touchdown.
I have seen it called not a touchdown earlier in the season though.
What a crazy game that they have to keep changing the rules like this.
Any game predictions?
Mine: Philly wins.
Just to keep making everything more and more complicated.
It's Brady time!
The reviews are killing the game. Along with all the other horse shit, but this is only the third game we are watching this year and we almost turned it off. And Collinsworth, SHUT TFU!
Phone lines between Atlanta and Philly burning up.
Brady's going to work,
Noice.
It’s all but over now. Wow this game is tight.
Brady given a pink slip,
Wow! A Brady fumble! Philly may win this after all.
I just opened up nfl.com.
A live feed opened up.
Does NBC know? Seems desperate...
Brady would have held on to the ball if it was slightly deflated. But alas, it was not.
It is silent when the commercials are supposed to be on too. Crazy. Not a single add.
A certain segment of society is upset that Dodge used the voice of MLK Jr. in their commercial. I'll leave to your fertile mind as to who.

He got some swelling from all of those rings.
This (an Eagles win) will really improve Robert DeNiro's and Bradley Cooper's relationship.
They got a little too tricky there on that kickoff return.

Oh the dilemmas.
Here it goes.
Boston really likes relying on legacies. Brady's too old. He's gotten cocky and sloppy.
He's married to a Brazilian supermodel for crying out loud! How can someone like that and with his skills not get cocky.
He has enough in life. As does his team.
Man you are one stupid ignorant POS. You'd do better to stop talking out of your ass.
I'm none of those. Idiot.
Night night, Boston.
Nail biting in Philly,
Can we get a fat lady to come out and sing, already?
DOesn't Minnesota have any opera singers?
Yeah, she’s singing now.
I love hearing and listening to MLK - in any context.
"I'm none of those. Idiot."
If it's not you, what's your complaint about my comment?
That was a great game!
There's a lot of screaming and fireworks outside my window right now.
Hopefully there won't be any overturned cars.
Yeah, that MLK ad was pretty good.
That game was as good as Justin Timberlake.
Did the Pats just lose?
The nation breathes a sigh of relief, "Pats are not the champs,"
Yes they did. Congrats Philly.

Congrats Toothless.
It’s been a pretty good run since 2001 with all the Super Bowls, the WS championships, the Stanley Cup, and the NBA championship, so it’s hard to get too upset.
Oh, and by the way -- it was wrong for the King family to sell out to Dodge to allow them to use his words for this commercial purpose.
Congrats Eagles.
Great Super Bowl
Very exciting game.
Give it up.
Underdogs win, Underdogs win, Underdogswin. And America is happy.
If Dodge had used a sermon from Billy Graham to sell their junk vehicles, that would have been just as inappropriate.
Mark - get over it.
Injecting MLK into our discourse, even if it is to sell shiny trucks, is a good thing.
More MLK, please.
I turned it on right before Brady got sacked. Thats the most nfl Ive watched all season. Congrats Eagles fans. Im glad the Pats lost.

Maybe they it for the children *cough*.
I didn't misinterpret your comment. You interjected race into something that had nothing to do with race. You, with your ignorant bigotry, made it a racial thing. No, you don't get a pass. You don't get to have "let go."
One wonders how many games are thrown?
Hundreds of millions of dollars are bet on those games illegality. Surely a few crooked players could throw a game for a million. And that's one reason I don't watch them. I just sense the whole thing is a sham.
Will Philly celebrations result in any deaths?
I liked the Jeep commercial at the end. No “manifesto” commercials for us!
