I lasted precisely 45 seconds before I stopped the video. My ears could only take so much pain.

uh-oh - the video did not appear on my screen. If Big Mike says it's painful, then I guess that's okay - but does that mean my favorite post of the day (café) will be empty tonight?

I'm going to repeat my talking point: Michael Isikoff states “I talked to a senior U.S. law enforcement official who was well aware of these allegations,” Isikoff said. “For me, the key piece, the reason that this was a story, was the fact that the FBI was investigating Page.” Isikoff was talking to someone in the government. That individual KNEW that Steele was talking to the press - in September 2016. I want a name.

Good night.

I didn't hate the musical rendition. A conspicuous cover song choice. Catching every note and flourish of the Kink's original. Yet baroque and thematically opposite enough to be unique and interesting. Doesn't reflect my mood or musical appetite most of the time, but I'd add to my playlist.. if I had one.

The wife hadn't ever seen the Godfather, so I watched it with her last night.

In it, we had 'Jack Woltz', the movie mogul. He hated Johnny Fontane because he seduced a girl he was grooming for a star and she walked away.

Quote: "And let me be even more frank, just to show you that I'm not a hard-hearted man, that it's not all dollars and cents. She was beautiful! She was young, she was innocent. She was the greatest piece of ass I've ever had, and I've had 'em all over the world."

I was struck by two things:

This casting couch thing was known for DECADES. In the book, he even supposedly nailed a 'Shirley Temple' clone while her mom looked on approvingly.

Second: blink blink...he's not a hard hearted guy by allowing this girl to pay her way by putting out to him? What a fucking Prince! But...she made that deal and there were probably a lot of other women who would have done the same.

We've changed a lot as a society.

Yes, but what does Ray think?

The singer, singing about wanting to be with a woman, is a woman. Of course. And the musicians, playing weirdly, all look so very pleased with their cleverness.

Jesus!

That's the worst thing I've ever heard.

Now I will go back and read the thread and see if anyone actually likes this.

From a new article in Conservative Treehouse:

[quote]

Mr. Benjamin Wittes is a close personal friend of Mr. Comey, and was the go-between used by Director Comey to leak information to the media, and specifically to the New York Times.

Three days after the FBI secured the FISA “Title-1” surveillance authority over former Trump campaign official Carter Page (using the Clinton-Steele Dossier), Benjamin Wittes wrote a column in his blog titled: “What if Trump Wins” – “We need an insurance Policy“ ....

Her voice reminds me of the style of some French women who seem to sing in a wispy, soft voice that sounds intimate but unemotional.

Yancey Ward বলেছেন...

Byron York flays and dissects the FBI's conduct in regards to Christopher Steele. After the first application on October 21st 2016, York basically lays out the case that the agents and DoJ officials responsible for the reauthorization applications deliberately lied. I am willing to wager they lied because they had already lied in the 1st application. I think they knew Steele and/or his clients had tried seeding the media with stories about the dossier right from the start. I think it even likely they asked Steele about the Isikoff story and Steele told them the truth, but it didn't serve their purposes to acknowledge that since they had basically no corroboration to add to that first application but for the Yahoo News story.

Now it appears that Virginia Democrat Senator Mark Warner has been secretly colluding with the Russians in an effort to interfere with and undermine the political process.

AZ Bob বলেছেন...

Yancey Ward makes an interesting point. A warrant for a wire tap automatically goes stale and must be renewed to show that the invasion of privacy is still justified.

The only thing of value they got from the wire tap was the ability to leak stories that the Trump team was under investigation, putting out an argument that where there is smoke there is fire.

It didn't effect the election but became something to use to push back.

Is that a Dylan song?

Or just a Dylan arrangement?

Shutdown 2. Electric Boogaloo. At this point I think we should just accept Congress is incompetent. Too bad there's no easy fix.

Centuries. Marilyn Monroe is said to have celebrated her success by saying "I'll never have to give another blowjob."

It got better after the intro. I liked it.

There's a couple cool things in there musically.

We are the art school Kinks Appreciation Society.
Slow the beat, add a xylo, cast knowing looks accordingly.

That is a very cool arrangement of a simple pop tune. Bravo!

"We are the art school Kinks Appreciation Society./Slow the beat, add a xylo, cast knowing looks accordingly."

True, but I find that totally charming and amusing.

It's kind of like "Portlandia," no?

D 2 বলেছেন...

I pass no positive or negative judgement on art school kids, xylo use, or the casting of knowing looks, your honor. At least at this time. It does remind / echo a Portlandia sensibility.

In defence of my action: I will submit that Village Green is one of my favourite & recurring go-to's when making up little ditties about all and everything. The happy melody is that good, it compels me to verbal action. An alternative was to use a T Waits song from Swordfishtrombones, which maybe is also what they were striving for.

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

I absolutely loved the Kinks but I stopped at village green. Never bought it. Lost interest. Only love the early Kinks. Love the ealy Who as well. Drew the line at Tommy.

Marc in Eugene বলেছেন...

Don't know whose song that is but the Hukke Hanneberg version isn't awful, although certainly outside of my ordinary musical world.

Any comment on Bermuda's decision to end its experiment with 'gay marriage'? I immediately thought, here we have a counter-example to the Althouse position (as I remember it, anyway; am not trying to be obnoxious), 'the change has happened; the opponents, who lost, should just accept it and move on'.

Bruce Gee বলেছেন...

Ok. I loved it. Forwarded it to my boys. One is living in deepest darkest Mexico and will listen to anything that isn’t annoying Mexican music. Which is annoying enough that I wouldn't move there to live.
I saw the Kinks toward the end of their career at a soggy rock concert somewhere in southern Germany back in I think 1972. German girls and GI’s, put on by Overseas Weekly or some such newspaper for the bored American men stationed around Frankfurt. The Germans at that time were hurling bottles of beer at Ray Davies who playfully dodged them and kept on singing. When they finally broke out Lola, everyone settled down and enjoyed.
