Ridiculous WaPo headline: "Tiffany Trump may be schooled by her dad’s nemesis, Sally Yates — a new lecturer at Georgetown Law."

"Law school just got a bit more awkward for first daughter Tiffany Trump: Georgetown Law just announced that its newest guest lecturer is Sally Yates, the former deputy attorney general her dad very publicly fired after she refused to defend his controversial travel ban."

1. As the top-rated comment over there says:
I really doubt that Sally Yates will be teaching Tiffany Trump.... First year courses tend to be taught by tenured professors, not lecturers. Lecturers come in and teach one course -- usually very specific to their area of expertise. These are upper level courses. Law students choose their upper level courses, and they know who teaches those courses when they make their selections.

So if Tiffany Trump were to end up in Yates's course as an upper level, it would be because she wanted to be in it. Also, skipping over the whole blind grading thing, Yates is a professional, she's not going to treat a student differently because of who her father is.
2. The verb "to school" seems to be used in the slang sense of "To defeat or put down decisively, especially in a humiliating manner." Here's an Urban Dictionary definition:
Being taught the proper way to preform an action, via extreme ownage and embarrasment. This requires the schooler, who is always of such a high level of skill that the schoolee has no chance of saving his reputation, to utterly dominate and show no remorse. If remorse is shown, it is done in a cool and laid-back way, as in to say "Your not even worth the effort of my pinkie finger", which ironically is just as brutal as an all-out ownage.
"Ownage" is "The act or state of perpetrating fierce and unholy domination against another, typically in a videogame setting, resulting in shame and embarassment for the victim and his/her family until the end of time."

Why do so many liberal journalists seem to indulge in fantasy revenge scenarios? What does that say about them?

Why did they use the word "nemesis"? She was not Trump's nemesis. Nemesis: a formidable and usually victorious rival or opponent. She worked for Trump. Nemesis implies equality of power or position.

Wait...Yates didn't "refuse to defend it," right? She refused to implement or enforce it, I thought. Huge difference.

I thought the coolest thing about the piece was that it tied in that DJT Tweet w/ Tiff's law studies.

Seems like that sub-story--re Tiff and law--coulda been used for an even more fun headline than the one that Althouse is fussing about. This piece buried the lede. IMHO

Yates was pro-choice. As is WaPo in their reporting of Obama's social justice adventures, and CAIR policy (e.g. trail of tears), foreign and domestic. So selective.

Proper definition of the word 'nemesis'.

Unlawful refusal to do your job in DOJ is a proper stepping stone to teaching law. This is America, after all.

Also, skipping over the whole blind grading thing, Yates is a professional, she's not going to treat a student differently because of who her father is.

A professional... As if that's any guarantee against unethical behavior. Yates needs to be asked if she had any involvement in the political espionage against Trump.

Yates is a professional, she's not going to treat a student differently because of who her father is.

Bullshit.

Big Mike বলেছেন...

And Yates was not Trump's nemesis. Trump was hers.

Yeah, I'm not terribly impressed with Yates's "professionalism."

"Yates is a professional, she's not going to treat a student differently because of who her father is."

Ridiculous statement in Althouse blog post: We already know that Yates thinks nothing of disregarding her professional responsibilities, and academics everywhere are eager to punish students for political reasons. Ask a Duke lacrosse player, including the ones who were not specifically falsely accused, how some of their professors treated them.

WaPo describes Yates as "[Trump's] nemesis"; has he spent even a nanosecond thinking about her since showing her the door? And as noted by many commentators at the time, Yates' refusal to defend his "controversial" travel ban amounted to insubordination and demanded her resignation.

Sally Yates is a political hack, evidently she didn't think she was a good enough lawyer to defend President Trumps emigration band executive order. Instead of counseling the President in private like any honorable lawyer would, she took the opportunity embarrass herself, DOJ, show her disregard for the Constitution or warped view of it and commit insubordination on television. President Trump fired her incompetent political corrupt ass. The President moved on finding competent lawyers to defend and win. So I guess Sally was and is full of shit.

MacMacConnell বলেছেন...

In Sally Yates reading of the Constitution her powers as an unelected appointee supersedes that of elected by the people President Trump because her appointment was made by the Magic Negro.

Sally Yates is the USA's biggest expert on how any US citizen can become vulnerable to RUSSIAN BLACKMAIL for violating THE LOGAN ACT.

That's a personal vulnerability that Tiffany Trump should become informed about.

Of course, Yates was the official who leaked to journalists that Michael Flynn had become vulnerable to RUSSIAN BLACKMAIL for violating THE LOGAN ACT.

Yates was the one official running around and making that dingbat idea into an issue.

Nevertheless, when Yates testified to Congress and was asked if she was the leaker, she responded solemnly under her sacred oath that it was not her.

That's all anyone needs to know about Sally Yates' character.

Mike Sylwester বলেছেন...

When "Crazy Comey the Leaker" testified under oath to Congress, he had the personal integrity to admit that he is a leaker.

In that regard, Comey is a much better person than Yates is.

mccullough বলেছেন...

The Supreme Court will give the final decision on the constitutionality of the travel ban. Like Obamacare, parts will be upheld and other parts will be ruled unconstitutional. Yates personal views never mattered. That's why Trump shitcanned her. The DOJ isn't a separate branch of governance. And in actuality, the DOJ has never been independent.

Chaired law professors surely snicker behind their hands at mere "guest lecturers," don't they? Isn't "guest lecturer" the legal academy's equivalent to Baskin-Robbins' "Flavor of the Month"?

But we all have to be careful lest a lecturer eventually become a senior lecturer, even a distinguished senior lecturer, who turns out later to have actually been a full faculty member entitled to call him- or herself "Professor of Law" even though he or she wasn't ever actually a professor, chaired or full or associate or assistant or otherwise.
