Beautiful photo. Just finished watching Paterson. Highly recommend it. It's a movie poem.

Paterson was a good movie. why does Jarmusch put in these recurring "things" that don't clear move the story forward. In this case, why all of the twins?

I was traveling today from my GA home back to my TN home as my wife has to go to work tomorrow. Missed out on commenting on the thread about country and rock music.

Here is a nice article from the NYT in 2014 about the importance of country music to East TN and SW Virginia. In the article are some links to the Smithsonian-affiliated Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Bristol and the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, VA, which is run by the descendants of A.P., Sara, and Maybelle Carter, and which hosts bluegrass, country, and folk performances every Saturday night. For any of you traveling through the area on I-81 who have a real interest in this music and its origins these are well worth the visit.

GOT started in first gear. No nudity and the murders were low key. In compensation, the show featured vomit and chamberpots. I can't recall any tv show that featured so many and such explicit chamberpots. Another first for GOT......The narrative gears are turning though, and I'm hooked. I can't recall any tv show with the narrative drive of GOT, nor one that featured so many characters in whose narratives I'm so involved.

So are you and Meade enjoying the aurora, Professor?

Did I miss a post on Brooks's sandwich story? I think his column is fantastic https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/11/opinion/how-we-are-ruining-america.html?_r=0

I have been saying for over a decade the democrats are trying, actively trying, to create a class society. The deplorables speech was their, premature, declaration of success. Like Bush's "Mission accomplished" photo op.

The Man Who Has Never Seen 'Game of Thrones'...

To begin, I never saw the 'Lord of the Rings' movies, either. I just can't get into Fantasy Shit: I don't like dirty medieval-style people, living dirty medieval-style lives. I don't like long white beards and wizened wizards and portentous dialogue. I don't care about dragons. I definitely do not care for Magic that Saves The Day...

Yeah, yeah: I hear 'Thrones' has nude scenes. Don't get me wrong: I AM good with topless chicks, but you can find clips on the Internet without having to watch the whole damn thing...

But 'Game of Thrones' is DIFFERENT, I am told. Sure. Does it have dirty medieval-style people, living dirty medieval-style lives? Does it have long beards and portentous dialogue? Does it have dragons...?

Then it AIN'T different.

Oh, but the storylines are full of intrigue! Okay: which dirty medieval-style person will have the dragon save them in the nick of time, THIS time...?

And -- holy shit -- how many hours do these damn things go on?

The "Lord of the Rings" trilogy is 558 minutes!

And 'Game of Thrones'? Two days and 12 hours straight. AND IT AIN'T EVEN OVER YET...

I have no interest in going to a Renaissance Faire and listening to people put on dodgy accents, and I sure as hell don't want to watch what equates to a well-filmed Ren Fair for two-and-a-half days...

And let's face it: dirty clothes, dirty people: all of these fantasy worlds would SMELL LIKE ASS. The rooms would SMELL LIKE ASS. The streets would SMELL LIKE ASS. The people would DEFINITELY SMELL LIKE ASS...

But the blonde: she IS cute....

I am Laslo.

It was his subconscious reminding him to make a copy of his book!

@Phil 3:14 - re: Twins. I don't know - a poetic reference to duality? There's the duality of the Williams poem's name and the bus driver's name. The duality of William Carlos William's work and the bus driver's work (both daily and creatively). Just a few examples. And of course, William Carlos Williams' name has a little duality in it, too. There are many more examples in the movie of other dualities, though.
When I was watching the movie, I kept wondering if Williams could have been both a doctor and a poet today. Back then, doctors had better access to transportation than their patients, so they made housecalls. That gave them some mental free time between patients - just like a bus driver has mental free time to think about his poetry throughout the day. Today, doctors have no mental down time- it's bounce from room to room and in between spend time documenting on a computer or sifting through many computer buckets to piece together the story of the next patient before going into the room. And then, most spend their evening hours tying up all the loose ends of the day. Thus, all the talk of burnout. We've become mental slaves.

I wish I trusted The Atlantic.

They are Clinton fanboys and there is little evidence to support them.
