"Retired high school teacher Tom Gilding stands next to an inflated chicken made to resemble President Donald Trump on Tuesday during a protest ahead of Trump's visit to Snap-On in Kenosha."

Man, I love an informative caption.

IN THE COMMENTS: Infinite Monkeys said — correctly — "It looks like a cheap knockoff of the giant Chinese Trump chicken."

So we're done with the Russian thing then?

Mike (MJB Wolf) বলেছেন...

C'mon madison.com you should know that the O in Snap-on is NOT capitalized! How many layers of editors let that slip through?

The Godfather বলেছেন...

I'm sure Mr. Gilding's former students are proud of the high degree of intellectual sophistication he displays.

MayBee বলেছেন...

Hahahahaha!

If people want tax returns, they should be pressuring their legislators to make tax return release a condition for getting on their state's ballot.

Mike (MJB Wolf) বলেছেন...

(I here note that they got the spelling of Snap-on correct in the other caption and in the body of the article. Why screw up the chicken caption?)

Saint Croix বলেছেন...

I hate to think what's going to happen to that chicken when the riots start.

Shish-ka-bob.

Chicken on a stick.

The big question is whether the Trump side will order its soldiers to "Protect the chicken!" or stab the chicken in its chicken-heart. Do the anti-Trump rioters love the Trump chicken or hate the Trump chicken? Oh the humanity. No, wait. Oh the poultry.

Meanwhile, as the rioters try to decide whether to stab Trump Chicken or love Trump Chicken, retired high school teacher Tom Gilding is going, "Stop it! Stop it! My deposit!" And he spends weeks, or maybe months or years, bemoaning his love-hate relationship with that damn Trump Chicken. R.I.P.

On the plus side, at least nobody takes you too seriously!

Mike (MJB Wolf) বলেছেন...

Saw some generic leftist lady yesterday ranting that "IF Trump would just comply with tradition" and release his tax return, MAYBE we could "move beyond this issue" and he could "govern" normally. How phony is that? We all (except LLRC) know that this issue, should it go away will be immediately replaced by another issue with which the same people will flail Trump to DO SOMETHING.

Tradition only matters when there's an R after your name, as the recent "nuclear" option discussion showed us all -- again.

I'd make an image of Hillary, but I'd worry about conjuring up the real thing. Shudder.

"If people want tax returns, they should be pressuring their legislators to make tax return release a condition for getting on their state's ballot."

Unconstitutional.

Michael K বলেছেন...

I wonder who provided the chicken for the "spontaneous protestor" high school teacher ?

Bill Peschel বলেছেন...

I guess it beats having to explain why you supported a crooked, lying, incompetent, and possibly ill candidate with deep ties to Putin and Russia who still lost despite having 100 percent of the media behind her.

I'm Full of Soup বলেছেন...

Althouse- is it unconstitutional re the state constitution or the federal constitution? or both?

Thx

MayBee বলেছেন...

Why is it unconstitutional? There are requirements for getting on a ballot, no? Not just anyone can get on the ballot, even if they are 35 and a citizen.

Dust Bunny Queen বলেছেন...

The more I see of teachers, retired or not, the more I consider that home schooling is the best thing you can do for your children.

Do not expose your children to these "poorly educated" nutbags that are posing as being teacher.

Lucien বলেছেন...

OK -- so then who's visiting Strap-on?

Wouldn't it be great to have the left chasing after Trump's tax returns for the next 7 years?

Why would anyone think there's anything there? And starting with tax year 2017 he's going to be filing as the President.

exhelodrvr1 বলেছেন...

Gilding, the lily-white snowflake.

MayBee বলেছেন...

....or petition the major parties to make it a requirement to get the party nomination.

There are FEC requirements. Financial disclosure forms. Why could tax returns not be similarly required?

David Baker বলেছেন...

"...make tax return release a condition for getting on their state's ballot."

Althouse easily beat me to it (unconstitutional), but I'd still like to see 'em try it. Especially after their huge "moral victory" in Georgia.

And I'm even willing to help them out just to honor Paul Ryan.

Hagar বলেছেন...

That's what the amendment process is for.

We're back to release your taxes. What happened to Russia?

Why not ask Hillary to release hers? I mean, equal time, and all that.

Darrell বলেছেন...

Do Lefties pretend they didn't see Trump's tax return on Maddow? That his marginal tax rate was around 35%, far greater than any of the Democrat stooges?

Lewis Wetzel বলেছেন...

There are issues here that aren't immediately apparent.
More names than the filer are going to appear on the tax return. There will be names of other individuals and corporations, possibly charities.
It should be a given that nothing illegal will be found. The IRS looks at these things, right?
So the only purpose for seeing the return is to go on a fishing expedition, and possibly learn with whom the filer is doing business with so they can be threatened.
If some person or group wants to see a politician's tax return, I would like them to answer one simple question first.
Why?

JAORE বলেছেন...

"How phony is that? We all (except LLRC) know that this issue, should it go away will be immediately replaced by another issue with which the same people will flail Trump to DO SOMETHING."

Mike hits the nail squarely.

Does anyone really believe thousands of ordinary Joes just all happened to get their boxers in a bunch on this subject?

Hammond X. Gritzkofe বলেছেন...

Jeebus! What an asshole.

I will begin to be impressed when the protesters hold up signs with their own tax returns stapled on the placcard, with the legend "Here Is Mine. Show Me Yours."

What earthly reason is there that DJT should make public his tax return? Why not all sitting Senators, Representatives, S.C. Justices, and Cabinet Secretaries?

I'm still waiting to see John Kerry's DD 214. How do we know we didn't have a traitor as Secretary of State? Or Obama's college admissions forms and grades? Or his renunciation of his foreign citizenships?

Even my leftie friends on facebook are worried that trump tax returns will not be a treasure trove of ammo to use and are now putting all of their chips on the russian dossier. Now that's sad!

Scott Adams made the point that six months ago Democrats warned we had just elected Hitler and now they're reduced to complaining about tax returns. Meaning that Trump is winning.

Balfegor বলেছেন...

Wholly off topic, but I like his coat. Nowadays, so many coats of that style are cut to the waist or -- awkwardly -- to the middle of the buttocks, but his looks like a nice, commonplace coat with big pockets.

I wonder what the interior pockets are like.

rehajm বলেছেন...

Do Lefties pretend they didn't see Trump's tax return on Maddow? That his marginal tax rate was around 35%...

Trumps tax rate from the Maddow 2005 return was 79%. He was subject to AMT but the income numbers in the AMT calculation shouldn't be used to calculate his marginal rate. The losses disallowed under AMT are still real losses incurred and should be used in his income determination.

See lefties, you wouldn't understand them if he released them, anyways. On the other hand they make an excellent example for why we need major tax reform.

The Godfather বলেছেন...

I'm sorry we ever got into this "tradition" of presidential candidates disclosing their tax returns. There's nothing in a tax return that is likely to be relevant to someone's suitability to be president. The one Trump return that was leaked disclosed that he lost a lot of money on his casinos, which we already knew, and that he used the loss to offset profits from other activities, which we certainly should have figured he'd do. Romney's returns showed that he took advantage of the carried interest "loophole", which is entirely legal even if some people (like Trump) think it should be repealed. If a presidential candidate has been doing something really evil, like taking bribes or running a whorehouse, you can be sure that his/her tax returns won't show that. As I recall, the Clintons' tax returns didn't answer any of the unanswered questions about Whitewater.

Michael K বলেছেন...

"I'm still waiting to see John Kerry's DD 214."

I think it pretty likely that Kerry got an "other than honorable" discharge and his medals were cancelled.

It seems to me that I recall something about the dates on his silver star being off, like it was reissued when Carter pardoned all the draft dodgers.

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

"Althouse- is it unconstitutional re the state constitution or the federal constitution? or both?"

Which state are we talking about? I don't know.

I meant federal.

Trump seems to be borrowing a page from the Obama playbook.

There was a big fuss about Obama's birth certificate. While I am almost sure he was actually born in the United States, he was remarkably coy about releasing complete and full documentation to substantiate the circumstances of his birth.

At the time, it seemed reasonable to me that a presidential candidate be held to a high standard in releasing this information, as native birth is a constitutional requirement to be President. It still seems reasonable to me, although I do believe Obama met this requirement.

There was some discussion at the time as to why Obama would be reluctant to provide copious documentation regarding his birth. Some people thought that there was embarrassing, but not disqualifying, information on the long form.

But it seems that Obama was employing the strategy of releasing the bare minimum of information, and that after much delay. This was an effective way of tarnishing his detractors as nutty and obsessed.

Trump is using the same ploy to de-legitimize his detractors and it seems to be effective for him, much as it was for Obama.

Thx - I meant the state of WI.

It's not unconstitutional for the feds, but states can't change requirements regarding federal elections.

Michael K বলেছেন...

"Trump seems to be borrowing a page from the Obama playbook."

Good observation.

The whole "birther" thing began with Hillary oppo research and Obama may well have claimed foreign student status at one time.

Trump made an issue of it for reasons that escape me.

Bill, Republic of Texas বলেছেন...

The whole "birther" thing began with . . .

I think the whole birther thing started with Obama. In his author bio he said he was born in Kenya.

I guess he used affirmative action x2 (black and foreign student) to get from a second rate college to finally law review editor.

TestTube বলেছেন...

Michael, Bill,

Yes! The point was, the birth certificate was "Stray Voltage" that led people down a rabbit hole, and distracted from other, more substantial issues, while making critics look foolish.

Trump learns quickly.

So when Bruce gets tired of being Caitlyn Snap-on will be able to provide him with a snap-on tool. Right?

I had not realized that Snap-on was a Wisconsin company. Somehow I had the idea they were based in Connecticut. They make good tools and the fantastic service is what has made them the first name in the industry. The service comes with a cost though.

I'm still using Craftsman tools that my father gave me in 1956 when he got tired of me raiding his toolbox to tinker with my bicycle.

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

Congress couldn't add requirements either. The qualifications are constitutionally limited.

Michael K বলেছেন...

"get from a second rate college to finally law review editor."

Once again, not even Harvard makes affirmative action law students "Editor of the HLR."

Obama was "President of the HLR." He never submitted an article that we know of.

Whatever that means.
