Fred Flinstone worked that pit. Wilma is buried there. Fred was car-jacked and never seen again. I think the Rubbles moved to Canada.
That bluff in the background is older than the Flintstones. Notice the blue-grey strata. That's the Chinle Formation, an Upper Triassic deposit composed mainly of waterborne silts and a nice place to look for early dinosaurs and pterosaurs. The third picture, that's where you might find Fred's cigarette lighter weathering out on the surface. Where Meade and Althouse were standing is the Morrison Formation -- the source quarry where most of the great Jurassic sauropods and meat-a-saurs were first discovered back in the 1870's and 80's. Dino might be sleeping right under your feet, Althouse.

Great photographs!
I mountain biked there in the summer of '88 on a borrowed Trek. Is it still allowed?

Very nice -- you have a good sense of landscape composition.
And all this stuff is silt from the Midwest deposited at a time when the rivers ran east to west?

Horrible, just horrible. This unchecked soil erosion will cut the country in half!!!
Capitol Reef is one of the underrated Utah Parks. Marvelous place.
