You showed a clear preference for blogging over tweeting...

... when I asked "What's the best combination of blogging and tweeting?"

That was a gratifying reinforcement of the choices I've made!

I will never use twitter unless it is required for some business strategy. For a variety of reasons.

Over the past few years I have come to look forward to reading your blog on a regular basis. My perception is that during the Scott Walker / Union events that the postings have become more balanced, even a bit conservative. Your objective, no-nonsense views on the variety of topics that you cover are enjoyable, as are so many of the pictures of WI and your travels.

Twitter cannot match the quality or depth of a good blog. Thanks for adding to the balance of good to the blog world.

I don't like when people tweet virtually every single thought that pops into their heads throughout the day, and retweet every single thing they found sort of interesting. I don't think any of their followers can keep up with all that tweeting. If you want a lot of followers on Twitter, it's good to tweet every day, but not more than 1-5 tweets on a normal day, plus some replies to followers.

Sure, that's the way I interpret it, also. The golden years demo is being sorta ignored by the folks focused on the spender demo. It seems like if ya get a bunch of golden year-ers, that's got to be worth a yute, or two. Everybody needs Tide, or whatever. Plus, aren't a lot of yutes broke because of socialist BHO? I dunno know why the ad folks don't look at it that way.

"I will never use twitter"

It's really awesome. I'm follow more than 1300 folks, from lefty loon to righty racist. Opening up that blast of data is not a bad thing. And, if it's good to go geezer and slow stuff down, there's always here.

A friend of mine today was bemoaning his broker's decision to buy Twitter stock for him. He's lost about $12,000.

Twitter has justified my decision to ignore it.

Twitter is emphemeral and fleeting, here one minute and people have moved on two minutes later. Try finding a memorable tweet a week later, much less years later. And given even less thought -- in the mind a second or two and gone the next. And the number of tweets that get parroted is minuscule. Its a reading forum for small-minded monkeys who cannot hold any greater thought in their heads.

Twitter and its bedfellow Facebook are seeds for the intellectual dark ages we are descending into.

exiledonmainstreet, green-eyed devil ayon kay ...

Twitter is a sewer. You made the correct choice. Stick with blogging.

Mark ayon kay ...

Twitter might be good to promote a blog post -- or by a president to send an infantile media into a hissy fit -- but that's it.

le Douanier ayon kay ...

E.g.,

I just opened Twitter. The first thing I read was that Paul Nadeau was noting that Sebastian Gorka was a professor of his in Budapest who at the time (still?) was close to Orbán and Fidesz.

Not sure any folks here are ready for that.

Best, for your egos and illusions, that you stick w/ Althouse jabber.

Carry on.

Bill ayon kay ...

I just don't see you tweeting. You're no doubt capable of being pithy, but you really shine in thoughtful blog posts. Which is why we are here.

le Douanier ayon kay ...

Bill,

I follow more that 1300 folks and have exactly zero tweets. So, you may be on to something.

le Douanier ayon kay ...

1326, to be precise.

le Douanier ayon kay ...

To give a taste of the flow of incoming, since opened Twitter at 6:44 (Althouse Time) I've had 273 new tweets in my feed.

It's pretty cool, if you're up for it, and you gather a great group of folks to follow.

le Douanier ayon kay ...

BTW, I have 44 followers, even though I have zero tweets.

Ha.

le Douanier ayon kay ...

And, I don't know any of the followers.

Folks I know, don't know my Tweet name, if that's what it's called. Likewise here.

Mark ayon kay ...

You would think that Twitter would be good for breaking events.
You would be wrong.

Whenever I've tried to follow on Twitter for some breaking news, the Twitter machine was overwhelmed with 50 tweets coming every ten seconds, to quick to follow and thus basically useless.

Tweeting can only result in the death of Western Civilization.

Impressive !
Of course, 80% of people you follow will follow you back without thinking. Not you personally, of course.

Hurray! We all have enjoyed the truely great experience of your exceptional mind. By comparison to Althouse Blog, Twitter is useless.

FullMoon ayon kay ...

Went to twitter a couple of months ago to see what Trumps tweets. Surprised at how few he actually does, and it seems to spend very little time to do it.

You're violating the extra line break rule right now.

Mark ayon kay ...

In fact, Twitter is worse than superficial, fleeting, useless and a scourge for thinking people.

Twitter brought us that damn @Name convention which people use even when not on Twitter.

At best I will write some twitter bots to go forth and gather/aggregate information and deposit it in databases for me. A huge number of twitter users are bots btw which would help you understand why you have 44 followers and 0 tweets.

DKWalser ayon kay ...

Althouse -- Your choices align well with the tastes of your readers. You prefer to write thoughts that cannot be fully expressed in twitter's format and we prefer to read things of substance. Particularly when those things are beautifully written. That's why we're here and why we're glad you are, too.

Bleeting?

eddie willers ayon kay ...

I don't read Tweets because I don't understand Tweets.

Who's talking to who? Did you say it, or are you just quoting someone else. Do I scroll up? Do I scroll down?

Screw it....I'm going to Althouse.

No one reads law review articles. They exist for law professors to get tenure. Most of them are so arcane and citation-laden they are unreadable.

If you want to write something to be read by other lawyers, write for your state bar magazine. I've submitted two articles to them over the years on aspects of criminal law. They were quickly published, and people actually read them.

What's the best combination for Ann? Blog. Blog, blog, blog.

jr565 ayon kay ...

The only reason you should tweet would be to tweet out the headings of your blog post along with a link to your blog. But don't respond to any tweets. You will be pulled into insanity

Sigivald ayon kay ...

Unknown, leave Lileks out of this.

Twitter is useless, more often a source of disinformation than utility.

#NeverTweet.
