"If you have always suspected that 'sex addict' is celebrity shorthand for 'what do I have to do to make this go away?'..."

"... behold your unlikely whistleblower: Ozzy Osbourne."
On Saturday, Ozzy, driven either through naive honesty or a charming disregard for the party line has broke ranks and explained his rationale for cheating to the Times of London as: “I’m in a fucking rock band, aren’t I?”

“There have always been groupies. I just got caught, didn’t I? It was a bump in the road. I bet your marriage has bumps in the road too an’ all. In any marriage you grow apart if you don’t spend enough time together, and that was part of the problem. I don’t think I’m a fucking sex addict.”
Back in August, the headline was: "Ozzy Osbourne Undergoing 'Intense Therapy' for Sex Addiction After Multiple Affairs."

Sounds like he's in denial.

He probably hasn't hit bottom yet.

Or maybe he's hit bottom a little too often, IYKWIMAITTYD.

He's damn near 70. He just wants to tell you that his dick is in working order.

Well...duh. Being a man in a "rock" band will cause many women to lose good sense, restraint and decorum all at the same time. Been there and had that happen - albeit on a much smaller scale than Black Sabbath.

It should be noted that Sharon Osbourne's reputation among rockers was such that Black Sabbath wrote the song "Digital Bitch" about her - - sung not by Ozzy, who had already left the band, but by Ian Gillan (ex-Deep Purple).

Addendum: I dislike using the word "duh" but it fits like a power chord bridge to anything out of the Black Sabbath ourve - music or Ozzy quotes.

Ozzy may not be a sex addict, but merely someone taking advantage of that which is freely made available to him, but I do believe there are sex addicts who cannot control their behavior and whose lives are damaged by their behavior.

Some other kind, then?

Bill Clinton wasn't a fucking sex addict. According to Monica Lewinsky and Paula Jones he preferred oral sex.

So, he's saying there are women who will let him do anything because he's a rock star. And he took advantage of it. Successfully. Unlike someone else who said this in more vulgar terms. Got it.

Ozzy is simply being honest, how refreshing from the typical BS. How many men would turn down sex with attractive woman when freely offered with no strings?

Some people just never outgrew the 60's dictum: If it feels good, do it.

We are, all of us, sex addicts, but some find more enablers than others.

Was is "intense therapy"? A kick in the balls?

Should be easy. Show the guy some porn. If it twitches, WHAM! The basic aversion principle.

Actually, much of the addiction thing is pure bollocks. "Food addiction" is just a comforting myth which allows fatties to buy and devour even more Milky Way bars and escape self-recrimination when the muumuu bursts at the seams. Same goes for sex addicts. Cut off the excess money and the behavior drys up. Impose an unacceptable consequence and the correct choice is usually made. Nobody but an idiot spends the rent money on Double Fudge Rocky Road, in which case the problem isn't addiction, it's stupidity. Same goes for sex addiction, a disease of men with more power than ethical self-restraint. When public eye turned on his philanderings Bill Clinton became Ward Cleaver, devoted to June and never crossing paths with the Beaver's lovely young teacher accept to hear the details about that scuffle with Whitey — rational behavior chosen for rational goals, the antithesis of addiction. When the feminists and the press gave him a free ticket, Bill took the free ride. That's immorality, not pathology.

Exactly so, Quaestor. I would even call it by its rightful name: Sin.

Some thoughts on addiction that are off the beaten path.
