I got married, finished grad school, and became a father four times over during the Obama years, so they've been good years. I've also learned to live with the wrenching disappointment of losing an election and losing faith in the goodness and sanity of America. It turns out I put too much faith in a country. And it also turns out that my cynicism when first tasted was too strong. Politics wants to sit at the head of the table. It doesn't belong there.
I susoect language lover Althouse may want to parse Michele Obama's saying "Hope is a necessary concept" which is an odd way to descrive hope IMO. I'd say hope is a feeling and an attitude and an emotion. Using hope as a concept is to place it as just another weapon in one's political party game plan? So was perhaps Michele making a confession that that us all hope was to Barack??
A two-week vacation only five weeks before a permanent vacation?
To be honest, I'm kind of surprised the whole family isn't doing a world tour on two or three separate jets the last month...it'll be interesting to see if they pull a Clinton and try to loot the White House on the way out........
I think I've passed peak schadenfreude and now it's Christmas. All the same the mainstream media has not said a good word about President-Elect Trump yet. And they think they will soon slip into another round of fake news which is accepted by most so I expect a long war on the news front. It will take a long time for the media to understand that people want to hear about jobs and safe streets, not hairstyles or how many boxes of Xanax Trump anxiety has caused a given reporter to swallow. And they may never realize that repeating their mantras on Trump has no effect on Trump supporters because Trump supporters see that Hillary's lies and Hillary's national security breaches and the Clinton family sex scandal surplus (Bill, Huma, Anthony Weiner) and all the other scandals are larger and more important and have no effect on the media. Is it time for Trump to reconcile the country? No, it's time for Hillary and the media to stop pumping out stories about Nazis, Russians and hacked elections. Media lying won't make Christmas sad or hopeless but it can wreck Xmas and happy holidays.
Mr. Picklesworth, your life experiences pretty much parallel mine, only I made all those milestones during the time of the 20th century's greatest president, Ronald Reagan. (and stopped after three children.) I was not surprised in 2008 when Obama became president, but I was shocked and dismayed when America re-affirmed its choice in 2012 and re-elected a manifestly incompetent cipher as a leader. The certainty of Hillary following on was sure to be the death knell for our country. Earlier this year I visited the Reagan Library, where on the wall in the entry way is a quote from the 80's by The Great Communicator stating that America's greatest days lie ahead of us. I found it very depressing given how wrong he clearly seemed at the time. I thought Reagan had too much "faith in the goodness and sanity of America."
I'm very shocked and relieved that we will not have Hillary for President. For all his flaws, Trump is least has the possibility of being a decent president. With HRC, we would have had no chance. I can agree with your wish that politics should not sit at the head of the table, but unfortunately it does. You turn your back on government for a minute and try to just live your life in freedom with the people you care about, you may find the government is selling your freedom to the highest bidder, or the most pliable voting bloc. At least we've been spared that for a few moreyears. As Reagan reminded us, freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.
Curious as to why they chose the "old school" rap motifs of the 1980s and 1990s.
Maybe I'm not the only one who's always sensed something retro about Obama.
Being the same age as Obama, I view him as ensconced in the same worldview I had back in my younger, more radical days in the 1980s when I entered college, as if he's been trapped in ideological amber since the Reagan administration.
Christmas with Obama has no content that I can see, just a blank.
Hmmm... That's either a glitched link to outside content, or a very sly critique. The last I heard the Obama's were living high wide and fancy free of frost and snow in Hawaii. Another dig into the nearly empty pockets of the American taxpayer. I fear Obama and Co. will be very expensive for a very long time.
Can we stop with all the "Can Trump reconcile the country?" shit? Clinton and Obama never even tried to "reconcile the country" because Democrats are never asked to.
Only Republicans are asked to "Bring us all together" after they win. And they always fail because the Left doesn't want to "reconcile" they want the Republican POTUS to fail and for themselves to regain power.
"Bring us all together" = stop being Conservative and be more liberal. That's all it means. Stop buying into the MSM brainwashing.
As for Obama. I don't really care. He wasn't a good POTUS, he wasn't a bad one. Looking back he was better than McCain who would've gotten us into 5 wars before Breakfast and passed Amnesty. As for Romney what would he have done better then Obama? Mittens had the same policy on immigration and globalization, and Romneycare wasn't that much different from Obamacare.
You lame people are missing, like you have missed before, the main, indeed the only, pertinent story of our times, the story history will revolve its competing narratives 'round evermore, which is this:
SNL MOCKS TRUMP!!!
Ba ba ba ba BOOOOOOOOM BABY.
Hell the way I see it, losing the presidency is nothing compared to La Residencies de Progville newfound ability to TOTALLY DESTROY Trump with comedy. Politics comes after culture ladies and gents, so y'all are just about to be demographically dusted.
Destroy him with comedy? Perhaps it could happen. So far what I've seen on SNL is really weak broth. It kind of makes me feel bad for them. It's like watching a motivational speaker brought into a school for an assembly who is just not connecting. About 15 years ago we had Rudi from Notre Dame come in and speak (about a year after his movie came out, I think.) The kids didn't hate him. They just didn't care. I don't despise SNL for being douchebags. I feel sorry that they're bad at what they're trying to do.
I think Trump will be blessed by the enemies he has animated. Folks who have now sworn to be his blood enemy like the writers of SNL and the entire MSM establishment still haven't adapted to the new reality. As their bottom lines continue to shrink, while they continue to cater to 40% of the country something will have to give.
You know what Obama did for me? He taught me that you can have an arrogant, manipulative, and incompetent man in the White House for 8 years and still live a good life.
I'm not an expert in psychology, but I believe they call it having a differentiated personality.
I absolutely do not allow pop culture to enter or have influence in my life. It is not even a rejection, rather simple living. Do people really stay up late on the weekend watching Saturday Night Live? I would never watch this video.

Thank God !
Is he dying?
Is it Lupus?!!!!????
Funny. And yet, if I said "never trust a black man in a red hat," I'd get fired and then audited.
Is the inference "The Last Christmas with Obama" mean that he doesn't have to fake it anymore, and next year he'll be celebrating Ramadan?
They are making a homage to the Run-DMC track that was released in 1987.
Rap was becoming mainstream, and an energy surrounded the scene.
LLCool J "Radio", Beastie Boys "License to Ill."
That year Reagan was President.
Reagan: the same fears of nuclear war etc as used in this SNL piece.
Trump coming into Office with many having Reaganesque hopes.
Juxtaposition.
I am Laslo.
And how will history characterize Obama's utterly failed presidency: The Experiment?
Can we get a pic of him riding a bike?
Last Christmas, she gave him her heart.
But the very next day, he threw it away.
This year, to save her from tears.
She gave to someone special.

I wonder how much this holiday in Hawaii is costing the taxpayer, $6-7M maybe?
@AJ
The next post is about Michelle's hope thing. Check it out.

I expect a lot of comparisons to Neville Chamberlain.

The left IS going insane. My neighbor, an (otherwise) intelligent, sweet woman just posted this on Face Book:

Dang, Obama did all that for you? No wonder you're a Democrat.

Agreed, it's Trump who is trolling failures like the MSM and SNL.
Can we stop with all the "Can Trump reconcile the country?" shit? Clinton and Obama never even tried to "reconcile the country" because Democrats are never asked to.
The CORRECT reconciliation with Democrats.
The last Christmas with Obama is also known as the final nail in the coffin of Kwanzaa.
"Do people really stay up late on the weekend watching Saturday Night Live?"
I have my DVR set to record it.
But I do remember staying up to watch it in the 1970s.
Apparently, I hate rap so much I can't even make it through a comedy piece.
