Ace of Spades commenters report that a 4th has died, along with contradictory rumors about black males with Texas plates seen at a Walmart just W of Baton Rouge buying clothes and changing either into or out of all-black clothes right in the store. Also that the New Black Panthers opened a chapter in Baton Rouge just yesterday afternoon.
We've already had several national disasters in the last few months, Chuck. Clinton can't pivot away from her Muslim sympathies or her BLM support. The polls are reflecting this.
Obama has played his "nuanced" game and gotten away with it thanks in part to a complicit media for seven years but, like all houses of cards, eventually it falls. His playing with fire in drawing equivalecies between thug behavior and police responses is now coming home to roost, as his old pastor Rev. Wright might say.
Obama may pay in history, but Hillary will pay in November.
The kind of community-police relations that Republicans love. Self-policing! Arm everybody! The government is your enemy! Our communities are evil! What could go wrong?
Obviously when we tell people to hate the government we don't mean law enforcement. Somehow they're the "good" part of government.
Bobby Jindal just made a smart comment. "This is the type of thing one sees in a Third World country." Exactly. When the Rule of Law goes, we are finished.
At least I'm up, Mike. Where'd your country go, dude? All those states that your guys control so tight-fistedly - along with congress and the courts - and look what happens. There go your neighborhoods, Mike.
The next time BLM blocks a road they all need to be arrested immediately. Blocking a road is a crime. Did the cops already forget about the broken windows theory?
The Black Panther types want to create no-go zones. Some of the BLMers want this too; others are too naïve to see that that is where this is going. Why the democrats want to go there is a mystery to me. Sorcerer's apprentice?
"For the second time in two weeks, police officers who put their lives on the line for ours every day were doing their job when they were killed in a cowardly and reprehensible assault. These are attacks on public servants, on the rule of law, and on civilized society, and they have to stop," Obama said in a statement. "We may not yet know the motives for this attack, but I want to be clear: there is no justification for violence against law enforcement. None. These attacks are the work of cowards who speak for no one. They right no wrongs. They advance no causes. The officers in Baton Rouge; the officers in Dallas – they were our fellow Americans, part of our community, part of our country, with people who loved and needed them, and who need us now – all of us – to be at our best."
"The kind of community-police relations that Republicans love. Self-policing! Arm everybody! The government is your enemy! Our communities are evil! What could go wrong?"
Careful what you wish for, leftist. You just might get it.
TWW said... Fox News: Shepard Smith has totally lost it.
I think he lost it a long time ago. The guy is a freak. We should have known, from the time of his parking-lot battery in Florida back in 2000.
I watch Shepard Smith for one of two reasons, exclusively: (1) I have FNC turned on, and I see him by accident, or (2) I watch him on purpose, to see if this will be the day that he finally melts down on-air. He is such a high-wire act in live television. It will happen someday. I make very few predictions. One I am happy to make is that someday in the not too distant future, there will be a Shepard Smith flameout at the Fox News Channel.
Bobby Jindal just made a smart comment. "This is the type of thing one sees in a Third World country." Exactly. When the Rule of Law goes, we are finished.
I've always thought of Louisiana as something of a 3rd world country. Certainly New Orleans is. Been there once for 3 days in 1999, I'll be perfectly happy if I never have to go again.
Lst Republican mayor left office in 1872. Yes 1872. They have had a few mayors for whom no party affiliation is given but they were mayor for 10 years total. Including 3 different mayors in 1936.
They've had 18 years of Republican governors since 1900
Fabi said...We've already had several national disasters in the last few months, Chuck. Clinton can't pivot away from her Muslim sympathies or her BLM support. The polls are reflecting this.
Hell, by her own admission, she can't pivot away from a third Obama term. Everything that comes out of Obama's mouth comes out of her mouth.
Mohamed Ali said the draft was about white people sending black people to kill yellow people. It's all so confusing. I ain't got nuthin against no black people, and I aint got nuthin against no cops. Ain't nobody gonna draft me into no civil rights war.
We have all noticed the disparity in the treatment of events by the news media involving groups favored by the left versus groups that the left hates. For example, whenever something happens involving Muslims the news media goes out of its way to play down the incident for fear (in their minds) that the general populace would take to the streets and indiscriminately attack Muslims. However, when incidents occur that involves the police as the perpetrators, the new media goes out of its way to play up the incident and they have no compunction about broadcasting rumors (such as Michael Brown had his hands up before he was shot) as fact. If they followed their own logic (yes I know that is asking the impossible) shouldn’t the news media be concerned about their complicity in these attacks.
Fabi said... We've already had several national disasters in the last few months, Chuck. Clinton can't pivot away from her Muslim sympathies or her BLM support. The polls are reflecting this.
Will it surprise you if I completely agree with you?
"If there is any more blocking of roads by BLM protestors, the criminals should be arrested. I condemn the BLM movement. It is both Marxist and anti-police. I am ordering the FBI to investigate BLM. If this country stands for any thing, it stands for the Rule of Law. Any and all lawbreakers will be arrested - regardless of race - and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
"I am also sending in the National Guard to patrol the streets of Chicago. The murders and shootings have been out of control for a long time and they must stop. "
"America is turning into a Third World country on my watch and I don't like it one bit. It makes me look bad."
"I am now speaking to my fellow Black Americans. Stop committing crimes. Stop dealing drugs. Stop using drugs. It's not cool. You aren't helping yourself or your race with this type of behavior. I used to smoke pot and it was stupid."
The kind of community-police relations that Republicans love. Self-policing! Arm everybody! The government is your enemy! Our communities are evil! What could go wrong?
Straw man arguments that make you sound like ed ache.
Obviously when we tell people the government is their friend and here to help them we don't mean law enforcement.
I do. But that's because I favor community policing. You OTOH just want to see cops and the communities they patrol as adversaries. But that's because you hate black people and think they are anti-America and in cahoots to destroy the country just because they don't like being treated unfairly or as eternal suspects.
Why can't other people reap the nastiness that your fellow travelers sow, I suppose you wonder? Why not look down on black America and expect something more magical and neighborly to arise from them?
Why not deny what Lee Atwater and Ken Mehlman and Michael Steele have all admitted to? Black people aren't people; they have no right to feel aggrieved about anything. They should just shut up and stop standing in the way of Republican political maneuvering against them.
The party you support has coasted to electoral victories for three decades based on a reliance on racism. Two RNC chairs and one of the party's most successful operatives have all admitted this.
So I see every happy Republican who refuses to agree to what these three have already admitted to as partisan beneficiaries of racism, until proven otherwise. I've run across way too many Republicans who make excuses for the Atwater quotes to presume that they're not happy to have benefited politically from what that miscreant (and all who worked with him) did.
In SC in 2000 Bush operatives push-polled potential Republican primary voters by asking if they'd hold it against Bush challenger McCain if he'd had a "black" kid.
What do you think of that, man?
Tell me your anti-political racism creds before you try to convince me to presume that you come at these issues impartially.
This is all about the election, and will go away next year until 2020.
It won't go away until Republicans account for their longstanding efforts to divide the country.
Republicans used to get more black votes, prior to 1970. Why do you think that changed?
Oh, who am I kidding! You don't care! The answer doesn't accrue to your political benefit so of course you can't be honest and answer why. Just blame it all on the blacks and how they must somehow want something more from their politicians than all your white Republican voters believe they're entitled to from their own guys.
Our president is going to try again this afternoon with another one of his lectures. He seems to be having second thoughts on his divisive racist anti-cop knee jerk statements of the last weeks.
Will he condemn: "What do we want? Dead cops. When do we want it? Now."
Will he condemn: When I say 'Oink, oink' you say 'Bang! Bang!?
Will he condemn: “Pigs in a blanket, fry ’em like bacon!”?
Will he make plain the fact that Mike Brown did not say: "Hands up don't shoot?"
Doubtful. Too late, anyway, for what we used to call "leadership".
What do I want? Since nobody asked, I'll say it. I want the President to come right out and tell that black teenager at that Dem debate that he was wrong. That Hillary was wrong. And that Bernie was wrong: It's "All Lives Matter and not just "Black Lives Matter." But he won't do it and so good riddance to Obama his fucked-up legacy. Go play some more fucking golf.
Obama / Jarrett / Soros/ Bernie have unleashed a Frankenstein ... Looks like they are getting their revolution unless they come out to discredit the monsters they created and tamp things down. Scary times for a country that is based on rule of law.
Do you intend to so ironic, R&B, or are you just stupid?
So says a guy who probably sees a confederate flag as "heroic", while looking the other way at all the government law enforcement officers that those white guys were able to get away with killing and being celebrated for killing.
He had the opportunity, still has the opportunity, to help his country.
Instead, his rhetoric and the rhetoric of his party just pours more fuel on the fire.
If a black man is killed by cops of any race or gender, the Democrats move into overdrive to fund raise off of the hurt and the pain in that community.
When cops are killed because of this rhetoric, Democrats seek to deflect the blame. They throw out strawman arguments (Just look at Ritmo here) and try and change the subject.
No matter what the truth of the past is, the present is filled with a very large group of angry people who are willing to kill the police to get what they want. What they want isn't exactly clear at this point though. What is clear is that the Democrats think they benefit as they continue to pour more fuel on this fire and stoke the flames of hatred towards fellow Americans.
We need a President who is willing to stand up to these dividers. To make clear that they aren't going to put up with such unlawful activities such as blocking highways, destroying property and assaulting people.
It needs to stop and Trump is the only one of the two candidates who will put a stop to it.
So says a guy who probably sees a confederate flag as "heroic"...
You have no idea what I think, R&B, but you've made it clear to all of us what you think, which is disturbing mostly for its — how to put it? — meagerness of profundity.
R&B once wrote: "It's good to know that the stupidest threads are just ripe for the threadjacking. I'll be sure to leave a trail of turds on every one of the brain droppings here that suit my fancy. Getting you shit-eaters to complain about the taste after opening your mouths wide and saying "Ahhhh..." to every bad idea under the sun is very satisfying, I must admit." - 10/16/10 10:28 AM
I never bothered to trace down that quote (if it's even still there) but here's the next best thing: context
It's a tragedy what happened (as is when any murders happen) but to blame it on Obama - in the face of all the evidence I've shown for what Republicans have done to worsen race-relations for decades now - just smacks of racist double-standards, if not outright racism itself. And I have no problem calling it out. Deal with it. Screw anyone who can't answer or refuses to answer for what Atwater/Mehlman/Steele have already admitted.
You have no idea what I think, R&B, but you've made it clear to all of us what you think, which is disturbing mostly for its — how to put it? — meagerness of profundity.
You nailed it! He always pretends to know more about me than I know myself.
Well, it's good to see Little Chickenshit quote that awesomely reputable and honest guy Fen when he loses it. I'm glad to see you've given up the argument already, asshole. But then, you usually can't figure out any issues affecting people if your life depended on it.
We could spend a little time on Lee Atwater who died in 1991 but that would detract from 2016 where we are seeing the fruits of divisive, conscious, efforts by our current president who at every turn has sided with a movement based on lies, a movement that has at its very core animus towards police.
You nailed it! He always pretends to know more about me than I know myself.
What you seem to not know about yourself could fill a book.
But then, that's ok. Just quote Fen and blame race relations on Obama (as if he single-handedly reversed decades of Republican progress). People that lie to themselves as easily as you do are easier to spot than (you) want them to be. But still transparent.
That's what pisses you off. Not my problem. Take responsibility, for a change.
I have decided to avoid commenting at Patterico until after the election. That is because Patrick, who I know and like, got too heavily invested in Cruz to the point he could not discuss anything else.
This blog, which I have followed and commented on for years, is being taken over by very aggressive leftists and trolls who seem to be working in shifts.
This fall is going to be a terrible time in this country.
If anybody is interested, there is a video of the Baton Rogue shooting over at Chicago Boyz. The shots were frequent enough it could have been an AK 47.
I grew up in a country where law and order does not rule. I know what it is like. Lucky for us there were no guns and crimes were more often than not petty. What is developing here now in this country is pretty disturbing. The BLM, the protesters at Trump events who turned out to be mostly Bernie supporters and in addition the paid people hired to create chaos scare me as it appears to be scaring a good portion of this country. This in the midst of outside forces like the other barbarians. Wow.
We could spend a little time on Lee Atwater who died in 1991 but that would detract from 2016 where we are seeing the fruits of divisive, conscious, efforts by our current president who at every turn has sided with a movement based on lies, a movement that has at its very core animus towards police.
He has not done anything worse (or near as bad) for race relations as Atwater and all who denied his admissions have done. The deniers are the ones with their hands on their eyes. Blacks have been killing cops for decades. Cops have been abusing cops for decades. When's it going to end? You think a white president or a Trump can make it all better? Lol. Whites have been rebelling against law enforcement, themselves, for centuries in this country. But when they do it you call it "a response against tyranny." Anyway, go cry your crocodile tears about all this stuff. I don't think you really care. But you can keep exploiting it racially, the same way Atwater's successor foot soldiers in the Republican grassroots have done. So at least be happy for that.
That imminent intellectual and amateur golfer named Obama who has blocked the USA from having a real President in office for 7+ years is now carefully teaching Americans why we must have a new Federal Police Force under his command and/or Martial Law to end domestic unrest caused by racists.
He wants really bad to have what Erdrogan has going for him in Turkey.
When such as the President, or NBA stars, or TV commentators tell the nation that cops are racists, or that police-civilian shootings like one recently in Baton Rouge was about race, it empowers the aggrieved, those who already blame some victimhood for their own poor choices, and only reinforces the myth of Ferguson, of "Hand Up, Don't Shoot."
BLM, Ferguson, I Can't Breathe, Hands Up - Don't shoot, , Freddy Grey, racist cops hunting blacks...it's all predicated on lies.
One thing almost highly publcized police shooting has in common. Someone was breaking the law, was confronted by cops, was resisting arrest and failed to follow the lawful orders of the police. Oh, and they were almost all high on dope.
In the recent Baton Rouge police shooting, a convicted felon was breaking the law selling bootleg music CD's, carrying a concealed firearm, which was another felony by itself, when he threatened another person with the firearm (another felony). Cops were called, and when they tried to search the suspect, he resisted (he was on felony probation, plus as a convicted felon, he would surely go to prison for that gun, forget the agg assault and resisting arrest). The cops knew he had a gun, which he was probably trying to pull. One cop was yelling "Gun Gun" and the other can clearly be heard warning the suspect to stop something or get shot. It cannot be surprising or unreasonable when the suspect was then shot. But immediately, our idiot President called this "racism" and wrong. Are we still in a nation of laws? This premature and almost certainly wrong call by El Presidente Supremo was outrageous, but nothing new.
And now, 3, or maybe 4 cops are dead in the same town. Several others are wounded. Thank you President Obama.
I don't like Trump. At all. But his election cannot come too soon.
This is Obama's BLM insurrection against law enforcement.
Right. Whatever you say.
That statement in itself just shows how racially biased you are.
He sure as fuck can do something about it.
SO can you.
Or not.
Of course you won't. Maintaining white privilege requires you to say it's ALL THEIR FAULT, while you comfortably complain from a distance and refrain from putting any blood, sweat or tears into working for a better situation.
Maybe R & B can explain why whites are voting as a smaller percentage for Democrats than they used to?
As for his RNC bogeymen, they have nothing on Sharpton or Jackson in promoting racism. To R & B decent hardworking non-freeloading people who detest the dysfunctional ghetto, barrio and trailer trash mentality and culture are classicists and racists.
"This is all about the election, and will go away next year until 2020."
Gahrie, I've had the same thought about several topics over several election cycles. For example, the homeless, low interest rates (hurting the retired), unemployment. etc.
I think this is different.
We have had community and national(!) leaders say things like, "It is open season on young black men. Brown had his hands up and was executed. What do we want, dead cops, Zimmerman hunted Trayvon Martin down ....." and on and on.
Pour enough poison into minds, pour enough hatred into hearts and the effects will not go away when the puppet masters loose the strings.
@R&B: You've been obsessed with Lee Atwater for years now. Nobody is buying your connections.
See? This is why it's obvious that you're autistic. You keep making objective observations personal.
The Atwater strategy amply explains why blacks bolted from the GOP after about 1970. It's only an "obsession" if you want to blame the Republican abdication of the black vote on blacks. Two RNC chairs thought it was important enough to come to terms with, apologize even. "Nobody is buying it?" You're a big nobody compared to them. A BIG, BIG MAJOR nobody.
I trust what they've said about their own strategy over what you say. Apparently they have more to gain by being honest than you do. White privilege must really be that strong. Much stronger than the political privilege that they have over your peon/footsoldier/grassroots self.
"being taken over by very aggressive leftists and trolls who seem to be working in shifts."
I dunno, this seems to happen every four years. Shiloh, for instance, was posting up a storm about the horrors of Mitt last time around, I assume he/she/it's doing the same now – and would be doing so regardless of who the actual R nominee was. (It's remarkable how every four years the GOP manages to find a nominee who essentially Hitler's more psychopathic brother. Who knew the US was full of so many monsters?)
I say "assume" because I skip Shiloh's posts, just like I skip all Ritmo's posts. Life's too short to intentionally read trash. Non-entertaining trash, at least.
Lee Atwater died 25 years ago. Didn't incite any whites to massacre blacks though I might be led to a link telling me otherwise. Atwater started a pretty good BBQ chain, Red Hot and Blue. He was a decent blues musician as well. Died at age 40.
One snippet of a recording of Atwater defines conservatism. Of course, that completely counters the still-living Stalinists from the 1960s who have found a natural home in the Democrat party.
You're just not that clever, R&B -- you have a tangential theory regarding what they said years and decades ago, but it's no more germane to 2016 or these cop killers than what Johnson said about the black vote in the sixties. Move on.
R&B keeps referring to three people's "admissions" about Republican strategy without actual quoting what they said or linking to any site that does quote it, so the rest of us can judge whether he is correct. Just another troll doing his best to wreck this site. Quite effectively, too. He may just have earned himself a pay raise.
I write the lies that make the whole world sing I write the lies of love and special things I write the lies that make the young girls cry I write the lies, I write the lies
"It's not the works of cowards. It's the work of haters inspired by Obama. Obama's narrative for Obama's advantage."
Pure stupidity.
Yes, it's the work of cowards. Anytime armed persons shoot and kill others without provocation and not in a position to defend themselves, in an ambush or any other circumstance, that's cowardice...married to psychopathology. (This is meant as a broad brush statement.)
Robert Cook said..."Just yesterday I was reading that islam has nothing to do with muslim terrorist attacks/Nice.
"Today I get to read that BLM has nothing to do with the slaughter of cops/Baton Rouge."
Do you have evidence either of the above is not true?
That a great example of the double negative/erroneous logic which I once caught the elder Althouse son doing. Let me translate using my negation deleter and judge for yourself:
Robert Cook said...
"Just yesterday I was reading that islam has to do with muslim terrorist attacks/Nice.
"Today I get to read that BLM has to do with the slaughter of cops/Baton Rouge."

There is no subtle difference between the two versions.
I don't know what clever point you're trying to make by restating my question in other terms. You say there is no "subtle difference between the two versions." Actually, there is NO difference. You simply restate my original question without answering it.
As a rule, those please pay attention to me 'cause I'm really smart and have a keen grasp of the world situation posters like MK who announce they are leaving never do.
My all-time fav was a fool at Survivor Sucks who said he was finished/done never to return and didn't last an hour.
What are the odds MK lasts a week. On the bright side he'll have a lot more time to spend w/his family assuming he gets along w/any of them.

Some helpful advice MK. When quitting a blog, quit cold turkey ie no peeking in occasionally as that never works.
Reminds me of a Will Rogers quote: There are two theories re: arguing w/a women. Neither works!
Michael K I hope you reconsider. Pop in for a look now and then. Perhaps the stables might be cleaned up a bit. Let us all pray for deliverance from these trolls and mobys. Amen.

Hahahaha!!
7/17/16, 3:51 PM"
What is not so funny is that most of those urban areas are run by Democrats and have been for decades. Perhaps there is a correlation to the causation of the dysfunction in those neighborhoods.
Over at The Federalist - a rabidly anti-Trump blog site, there is this analysis by John Gibbs – a black man - of what Obama has done. It explains the last 7 ½ years well.
"My view of America is that we are a place of great promise and opportunity, where someone like me, who is the grandchild of illiterate black Southern sharecroppers, can achieve success and reach the American dream. We are a place occupied by fair-minded, hard-working people whose culture and values have built a nation that is the envy of the world. I am proud to be a part of that culture.
Our Founders, while imperfect and a product of their times, were visionary heroes who made hard choices and compromises to give us the successful system we have today. Because Americans are good, we’ve worked hard over time to right the wrongs in our society that our Founding Fathers could not eliminate in their time. In summary, we are a fundamentally decent people blessed to live in a phenomenal land with a rich heritage.
But not so for President Obama. His view of our nation seems to be very different than mine and that of many other Americans. I believe that when President Obama thinks of America, more so than a place of hope or opportunity, he thinks of a place where racist white Christian fundamentalists came here from Europe, committed genocide against Native Americans, enslaved and segregated black people, denied women, gays, and other minorities their rights, and used capitalism and a rigged legal system to oppress poor people for centuries. He also believes this is still continuing today.
Given this view of America as an evil place in need of forceful justice for her sins, the president’s overarching goal has been to eliminate what he sees as the structural, institutionalized discrimination that defines America. He has done this by taking every opportunity to see disparities between groups as evidence of discrimination, then using all available resources to fight this perceived discrimination by going to war against the Americans he believes are responsible for it, who are almost always whites, men, police, and Christians.
A small sampling of the ways he has done this are: accusing whites of “white privilege,” which means having an unfair advantage due to being white, an advantage built upon oppressing minorities; accusing the police and justice system at large of racism; blaming pay differences between men and women on discrimination; and casting Islamic radicalism as a legitimate response to discrimination (ostensibly by white Christians).
This strategy has had two effects: 1) It’s caused the alleged victims of the perceived discrimination to become more militant, hostile, and only willing to make demands and not willing to engage in dialogue due to increasing their sense of victimhood, and 2) It’s caused the alleged perpetrators of the perceived discrimination to feel unfairly blamed for problems that are not their fault, thus less willing to engage in dialogue with people who will do nothing but accuse them of wrongdoing.
In other words, both sides are moving away from each other. This means that, contrary to unifying the nation, the president’s leadership has caused division and discord."
It means that there will be a lot more incidents like Dallas and Baton Rouge as long as Obama’s in office and if Hillary presides over Obama’s third term.
Aside from what the truck driver is "said to have shouted," is there any other evidence? Even if he shouted it, does it prove he acted in the cause of muslim terrorism? From what I have read, the man seems to have been apolitical and not at all religious, but who was mentally ill. One cannot assume that an act of insanity can be easily understood due to a single statement shouted by the insane actor who is no longer alive to explain himself.
FTR , Rythm and Balls is one of the best commenters on Althouse. He just likes to watch you squirm.
But Racism is unnecessary. So why do we defend the Dems for using it? Just because the GOP used it once upon a time is not a good reason. Let's elect a leader who leads without it.
@cuban bob: What is not so funny is that most of those urban areas are run by Democrats and have been for decades. Perhaps there is a correlation to the causation of the dysfunction in those neighborhoods.
No coincidence. Of course the Progs want to keep them down. If they become successful, they'll get uppity and become Republicans. ;-)

Blogger Rhythm and Balls said... Lee Atwater died 25 years ago.
"Well, at least you can admire him for leaving a more enduring legacy than you'll ever leave, Michael. Youth be damned."
Atwater was a man before his time. I did admire him, for the Willie Horton ad, and for saying he would "peel the bark off of" that queasy little race traitor Dukakis.
But really, R&B, if you want to take a dispassionate look at who has been poisoning race relations in America, what about shit-sacks like Willie Horton? Here's what Wikipedia has to say about his accomplishments;
"On October 26, 1974, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Horton and two accomplices robbed Joseph Fournier, a 17-year-old gas station attendant, and then fatally stabbed him 19 times after he had cooperated by handing over all of the money in the cash register. His body was stuffed in a trash can so his feet were jammed up against his chin. Fournier died from blood loss.[2] Horton was convicted of murder, sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, and incarcerated at the Northeastern Correctional Center in Massachusetts.[3]
On June 6, 1986, he was released as part of a weekend furlough program but did not return. On April 3, 1987 in Oxon Hill, Maryland, Horton twice raped a local woman after pistol-whipping, knifing, binding, and gagging her fiancé. He then stole the car belonging to the man he had assaulted."
Quite the goodwill ambassador, Willie was. Pity the SCOTUS didn't legalize abortion in time for his Mom to get one. And then there's the million or so blacks who destroyed Detroit, and the worthless black parasites destroying Baltimore. Yeah, you call Republicans racists, R&B. Which ghetto do you live in? Received any good pistol-whippings lately?
It seems the Democrats are torn by the cop killings in Dallas and Baton Rouge. On the one hand, their allies in the BLM movement are showing their chops. Some may be concerned that it's not good for their image. But like Hitler in Munich in the 1920s (who got people joining the Nazis by showing that his followers were tougher than all the rest) it's critical that they are seen as the toughest bad-asses on the block. That they are tougher than the mayor and the cops. And at the center of power, Obama isn't going to do more than make a pro-forma denunciation of violence. He's got their back. He's not going to do anything. The only time he sends in the troops (FBI, DOJ) is when the shooter is white and the dead man is black.
You thought he was kidding when he promised to fundamentally transform the country?
I don't know what clever point you're trying to make by restating my question in other terms. You say there is no "subtle difference between the two versions." Actually, there is NO difference. You simply restate my original question without answering it.
The only reason a writer constructs a double negative is to obfuscate.
Aside from what the truck driver is "said to have shouted," is there any other evidence? Even if he shouted it, does it prove he acted in the cause of muslim terrorism? From what I have read, the man seems to have been apolitical and not at all religious, but who was mentally ill. 7/17/16, 4:08 PM"
RC sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Why do you assume it was an act of insanity instead of a religiously based act of terror? The 9/11 terrorists acted irreligious before they did what they did. Another question why do you strive so hard to find another motivating factor to somehow exculpate the motivating ideology?
Words have consequences, whether they come from the high and powerful or the man in the street with a TV camera recording him.
It's time for everybody to get humble, and step back from their positions of righteous certitude. The next attack could be whites on groups of protesting blacks. Then all hell could break loose.
The killings at Rev. Pinckney's church in Charleston were not so long ago. The residents of that city, black and white, benighted Southerners all, gave a great example of forbearance, sympathy and mutual respect.
We are in a strange time when South Carolinians are setting the best example for race relations. But they are and perhaps the rest of us could profit from the example.
So because I recognize that a very small percentage of our population (~4%) is committing between 30% and 40% of the crime in this country, I am a racist?
If the problem was upper class White people, I'd call them out.
But newsflash...it is not Asian grandmas gunning each other down in the streets and stealing from poor black people....
Just stating the facts. My, my, you people are very touchy about confirmed RNC strategy!
LOL! Like the RNC has a strategy that it can implement. Trump is pretty much proof that they can't effectively wipe their noses with a tissue in both hands.
Robert Cook said: 'Aside from what the truck driver is "said to have shouted," is there any other evidence? Even if he shouted it, does it prove he acted in the cause of muslim terrorism? From what I have read, the man seems to have been apolitical and not at all religious, but who was mentally ill.' 4:08
Yes. His Muslim neighbors said he was not religious. Now that you mention it, Cook, how do we know that any of these dead murderers "acted in the cause of Muslim terrorism?" Just because a terrorist organization claims responsibility and, in this case, the victims' government say it was Islamic terrorism, what does that prove?
We may have Islam all wrong, just like Hillary and Barack are reminding us. Just because 99% of these attackers are Muslim, doesn't mean it is Islamic terrorism. It may just mean there is a high degree of violence inducing mental illness among Muslims. You may be on to something here.
Whenever I read a Liberal explain why some guy named Mohammad screaming Allah Akbar while killing people is not a Muslim I'm left wondering if they're lying, or if they really believe that they know what Muslims believe well enough that they know what a "real" Muslim believes. If they are not lying, what makes them deny the obvious? It's not love of religion so it must be their dislike of Western culture.
"Aside from what the truck driver is "said to have shouted," is there any other evidence? Even if he shouted it, does it prove he acted in the cause of muslim terrorism? From what I have read, the man seems to have been apolitical and not at all religious, but who was mentally ill. One cannot assume that an act of insanity can be easily understood due to a single statement shouted by the insane actor who is no longer alive to explain himself."
"The cause of Muslim terrorism"? Cookie, the guy was a Muz, and he was a terrorist. He didn't act in the cause of Muslim terrorism, he *was* Muslim terrorism. He could be the poster boy. Hell, his fellow Muslims are using his picture to recruit more like him even as I type. Are you trying to say, that the fact people who are apolitical and not at all religious can suddenly decide to kill dozens of people in the name of Islam, means that Islam is harmless?

No coincidence. Of course the Progs want to keep them down. If they become successful, they'll get uppity and become Republicans. ;-)

What is sad is that what we both said has some much truth in it. I for one would be happy if the Black, Latino and White underclass transformed themselves into the middle-class with its virtues and ethics and values even if means no Republican were ever to get elected president for the next two hundred years.
"One cannot assume that an act of insanity can be easily understood due to a single statement shouted by the insane actor who is no longer alive to explain himself."
One, and all as it were, can assume what one wants for any reason, acceptable to you or I or not or, as is most likely, never to garner our considerations at all.
Why are you so deluded so as to possibly believe otherwise?
Very sad what socialism/envy/hate does to logic. Excommunication of it is only the start. The continual attacks on Logic's Ghosts continue to warp the socialist minds evermore.

You recall incorrectly. Besides, by your own admission, weren't you gone by then (July 2013)? You saw through the 2012 election and then disappeared. Are you saying you hung around lurking or posted under a different handle?
The Crack Emcee's life matters. I do hope he is doing well.
I think of R & B and The Crack Emcee as special commenters who can hit the hard targets in a creative way, like Chris Kyle was doing before his retirement and tragic death.
R&B has kept his wonderful sense of humor through the years. But in the end, Crack took his own opinions too seriously and he checked out, which is a lesson we all need to remember.
Oh chickelit you have to ask.. The talking points are ready, Valjar was just making sure the Mayor did not go off the script-- if it is a white lefty it is mental illness and guns. If it is a BLM inspired black guy shooting at police now, it is a lone wolf... and guns, of course, though I am not sure I heard the race of the guy in BR mentioned in the media.. Is he black? Lone wolf is a better narrative than a horde of AAs starting this movement, and the sort of revolution Bernie was talking about. And they say Trump is dangerous and divisive.
Yes. Why are you providing transcripts from the Orlando killing to prove the Nice killer was acting in the cause of Islamic terrorism?
(That aside, I have commented here about my similar doubts about Omar Mateen's actual degree of motivation by Islam extremism. He is described as an angry, maladjusted person who may have been covertly homosexual or troubled by homosexual feelings. It is not so certain that he, either, acted as a muslim terrorist. There are many fucked up people who erupt and kill all the time. It is very easy for them to claim a greater cause for their actions by shouting expedient political or religious slogans, thereby hiding the truth, that they were just crazy or more of life's losers.)
""The cause of Muslim terrorism"? Cookie, the guy was a Muz, and he was a terrorist."
Was he? Descriptions of his behavior by his brother don't sound at all like a devout or even marginally observant Muslim.
His act of senseless mass murder was certainly terrorism, but there's no reason as yet to accept that he was a part of any organized Islamic extremist groups or was acting in their behalf or for their cause. At this point, the simplest explanation is that he was crazy and anti-social, like Dylan Roof or Jared Lee Loughner, and other similar crazy mass killers.
Life has many losers everywhere. What they do about it is the result of memes that they absorb from the milieu. There are fashions in madness, fashions in misery. Islam, historically, has a constant meme of "kill your neighbor". This recurs, frequently, constantly, among individuals, small bands and whole societies.
Cook asserts: Yes. Why are you providing transcripts from the Orlando killing to prove the Nice killer was acting in the cause of Islamic terrorism?
As for the Orlando shooter...had he lived, his 911 call would most certainly have been admissible evidence in his trial. Why do you refuse to take it as prima facie evidence that he was motivated by radical Islamic ideology? Why must that conclusion be avoided?
One recent meme is mass murder. Fifty years ago these people would have been just as mad or evil, but wouldnt have considered killing as many people as possible was their goal in life. Its become popular. In Islam, this sort of thing was always popular, if directed at the enemy peoples. Granted it was generally organized by clan, tribe or band, but that was when people had tighter communal links.
"Chickie doesn't care about the black vote. He thinks their votes are not worth anything to him."
I care about the Black vote. I'm just not willing to bribe them for their vote. Or keep them face down in the shit and dependency for 60 years like the Democrats have. When the money runs out and Black folks wake up, the Democrat Party is going to shatter into a thousand pieces. Unless they can get a shitload of wetbacks to accept less government cheese than Black folks find acceptable.
I'll bet the BR mayor has been feeling a lot of heat for mentioning VJ. Hoo-wee did he go off-script. (I'm glad he did, but he's in a heap of trouble.)

But perhaps you're right, Shiloh. I may be touchy. Touchy about presidential candidates who expose state secrets to our enemies by being more paranoid of her political opponents accessing them through legitimate FOIA requests. Touchy about presidential candidates who sell influence to foreign donors and corporate mercenaries of the worst sort. Touchy about presidential candidates who will clearly say anything to get elected and have no actual values of their own that we can trust her by.
Call me whatever you want. Just know that you can't call me a partisan shill.
What's it like to have no integrity, Shiloh? Exactly how much of yourself or your soul would you sell just to pretend to take pleasure in getting the the worst Democratic presidential candidate in history to win an election?

R&B keeps referring to three people's "admissions" about Republican strategy without actual quoting what they said...
Lol. As if it needed to be. Really difficult to find. Google: RNC apology race. Knowledge. Very important and actually not that hard to come by if you're interested!
Every time I quote Atwater the lower primates here go apeshit, so I won't do it. But here's the link.
It's not so hard to see for those who are not blind. Mehlman's and Steele's quotes are shorter, less equivocal and hopefully less "controversial". Here they are:
"By the '70s and into the '80s and '90s, the Democratic Party solidified its gains in the African American community, and we Republicans did not effectively reach out," Mehlman says in his prepared text. "Some Republicans gave up on winning the African American vote, looking the other way or trying to benefit politically from racial polarization. I am here today as the Republican chairman to tell you we were wrong."
(...)
“This party was co-founded by blacks, among them Frederick Douglass. The Republican Party had a hand in forming the NAACP, and yet we have mistreated that relationship. People don’t walk away from parties, Their parties walk away from them.
“For the last 40-plus years we had a ‘Southern Strategy’ that alienated many minority voters by focusing on the white male vote in the South. Well, guess what happened in 1992, folks, ‘Bubba’ went back home to the Democratic Party and voted for Bill Clinton.”
Enjoy!
And do, do try to see about how you can stick to your mission of trying to kill the message, rather than the messenger. I'm just a simple American, informing himself of what your party chiefs have been up to.
Lee Atwater died 25 years ago. Steele pointed out that the "southern strategy" involved focusing on white voters. OK. Agreed. Who would disagree with this and why? This is not some breakthrough bit of political forensics. It has become pretty clear that it is a waste of time for conservatives to try and overcome the wonderful job that Democrats have done for black Americans. So, why try? Democrats have run Atlanta, Memphis, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Baltimore etc for many decades and the great prosperous and productive lives of black Americans in those cities speaks volumes about the excellent outcomes the Democrats have been able to pull off on their behalf. So why would Republicans try to do more when the job Democrats are doing cannot be bettered?
Democrats have run Atlanta, Memphis, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Baltimore etc for many decades and the great prosperous and productive lives of black Americans in those cities speaks volumes about the excellent outcomes the Democrats have been able to pull off on their behalf.
Definitely not a racist comment. Just presumes that blacks were better off during the days of segregation and prior to civil rights. Other than that, let me know which apples you're trying to compare these oranges to.
More of the Atwater tape: But Reagan did not have to do a southern strategy for two reasons. Number one, race was was not a dominant issue. And number two, the mainstream issues in this campaign had been, quote, southern issues since way back in the sixties. So Reagan goes out and campaigns on the issues of economics and of national defense. The whole campaign was devoid of any kind of racism, any kind of reference. And I’ll tell you another thing you all need to think about, that even surprised me, is the lack of interest, really, the lack of knowledge right now in the South among white voters about the Voting Rights Act.
The tape is more about Atwater than it is about the GOP.
It presumes nothing of the kind. Simply a fact that Democrats have run these cities for decades. Their record of advancement for black rights, black economic health, black education, black safety speaks for itself. It is not something that I would be proud of if I were a Democrat. For the most part the governance of these cities has resulted in abysmal outcomes for the black community.
Not sure what is partisan about pointing out that certain cities have been run by a particular party for decades and the outcomes for black Americans in those cities has been less than satisfactory.
Unless, of course, inconvenient facts are by nature partisan. And racist.
I agree. It was a partisan comment -- perhaps a highly partisan one. But it was R&B who added the racism via projection.
Of course. There is absolutely nothing racist about telling a black guy that he's better off without equal rights as long as you pay him off well enough. Nothing at all. Who wouldn't prefer money to their rights and equal dignity under the law?
Well, apparently chickie and michael would.
So which of your rights, chickie, should we start taking away from you for the mere fact of being white?
Whatever may be the limitations, I believe that the Althouse blog should ever encourage that continued and fearless sifting and winnowing of wit from chafe by which alone the truth can be found.
"Of course. There is absolutely nothing racist about telling a black guy that he's better off without equal rights as long as you pay him off well enough. Nothing at all. Who wouldn't prefer money to their rights and equal dignity under the law?"
And who wrote any such thing or held any opinion like that on this thread?
And who wrote any such thing or held any opinion like that on this thread?
It's plainly obvious that's how you feel. You substitute economic changes for the actual, meaningful massive political change of gaining rights. And then not pandering to the people opposed to those rights, as the Republicans did.
It is plainly obvious that you have a screw loose. It is plainly obvious that you think you know what people think based on what the voices in your head tell you they are thinking. The voices are wrong.
It is plainly obvious that you cannot explain the horrible and clear decline of the black community in those cities that have been run by Democrats for half a century. You turn to the voices in your head for answers.

I would guess the "police acted stupidly" if I were the President for whom Althouse voted in 2008.
Ace of Spades commenters report that a 4th has died, along with contradictory rumors about black males with Texas plates seen at a Walmart just W of Baton Rouge buying clothes and changing either into or out of all-black clothes right in the store. And if the national disaster gets here before election day, we will elect Trump.
Have I got that right?
The race of the dead/wounded officers and the shooter(s) has not been mentioned yet. It will be interesting to see if this is Dallas Chapter 2.

This is Dallas all over again. And it will be repeated.
Chuckles...don't you have a phonebank to man.....those retiree checks aren't going to write themselves.....

A real Republican would know that.

This needs more activism!
Heckuva job, Barry.

Very ironic....
Obama statement posted without comment.
No death toll is too high for the MSM either, of course. Quite the opposite.

What Obama should say.

Pretty weird, conflicting priorities you've got there.
Why not deny what Lee Atwater and Ken Mehlman and Michael Steele have all admitted to? Black people aren't people; they have no right to feel aggrieved about anything. They should just shut up and stop standing in the way of Republican political maneuvering against them.
Man, you are one sick puppy, Ritmo.
Man, you are one sick puppy, Ritmo.
I just respect people (including Republicans) enough to accept what Lee Atwater and Ken Mehlman and Michael Steele have all told me.
I can post quotes of what they said, if you like. If you're not too afraid of the truth, or anything.
I do. But that's because I favor community policing.
What do you mean by this?
You OTOH just want to see cops and the communities they patrol as adversaries.
No I don't. I want to see the communities and the young Black men that prey on them as adversaries.
But that's because you hate black people
Fuck you..you don't know me. I am not a racist.

No I think urban Blacks are largely ignorant, easily led, and in search of a free ride.

Rhythm and Fries With That has come unglued. Fuck off.
Oh, post away Ritmo, something, something predators.
Fuck you..you don't know me. I am not a racist.
#BlackLiesMatter
Oh, yeah, "Superpredators".
Oh he's just trolling us now.
Tell me your anti-political racism creds before you try to convince me to presume that you come at these issues impartially.
Do you intend to so ironic, R&B, or are you just stupid?
Obama went back to Washington from Dallas and went into a huddle with Al Sharpton, DeRay Mckesson, et alia. Enough said.
#UnionLivesMatter
C'mon Barack, give us some of that Peace Prize BS .... maybe standing between some styrofoam columns.
Fuck that guy R&B. Why are people engaging him?
Quaestor -- R&B isn't quite smart enough to appreciate the outrageous irony of his all-republicans-are-racists bigotry.
Fuck that guy R&B. Why are people engaging him?
Because I make the lies you tell yourselves feel just a little more uncomfortable to you.
Quaestor -- R&B isn't quite smart enough to appreciate the outrageous irony of his all-republicans-are-racists bigotry.
I never said they all were. Just those who disagree with what Lee Atwater and Michael Steele and Ken Mehlman said or resent them for saying it.
But you can clear this up quite nicely all on your own. Where do you stand on what those three have said about RNC racial voting strategies?
Don't pretend you don't know what they said! I can get the quotes for you even - if you want, Denier!
I blame Obama. You should too.
I can get the quotes for you even - if you want, Denier!
You keep saying this. It's as if we should even know who those people are.
I've heard of Michael Steele before, but not the other two guys.
Why should we care what they had to say, exactly?
And how many of them have gotten talking heads spots on MSM networks?
Fuck that guy R&B. Why are people engaging him?
R&B once wrote: "It's good to know that the stupidest threads are just ripe for the threadjacking. I'll be sure to leave a trail of turds on every one of the brain droppings here that suit my fancy. Getting you shit-eaters to complain about the taste after opening your mouths wide and saying "Ahhhh..." to every bad idea under the sun is very satisfying, I must admit." - 10/16/10 10:28 AM
I never bothered to trace down that quote (if it's even still there) but here's the next best thing: context
So many misunderstanders of Islam and BLM recently.
Mayor of Baton Rouge covering for Obama. Also said he got a call from President Val Jarrett.
Well, it's good to see Little Chickenshit quote that awesomely reputable and honest guy Fen when he loses it. I'm glad to see you've given up the argument already, asshole. But then, you usually can't figure out any issues affecting people if your life depended on it.
Enjoy the day.
Obama built that.
See you after the election.
I think the mayor of BR just mentioned "Ms. Jarrett" while talking about "help" from the White House in the live news conference.
Weird. (He seemed like a nice guy, and probably wasn't supposed to mention that, if in fact that is what he said.)
It is a sad day when average guy like me reads of a mass shooting and hopes it is just one crazy and not a coordinated attack with multiple shooters.
I don't care what they have said, Rhythm.
@R&B: This is Obama's BLM insurrection against law enforcement. He sure as fuck can do something about it. Or not.
I don't care what they have said, Rhythm.
Then keep being part of the problem. You have only yourself to blame.
@R&B: You've been obsessed with Lee Atwater for years now. Nobody is buying your connections.
Like many here, I'm waiting for the banhammer to fall on R & B.
He's an arch-troll and chronic thread hijacker!!! And an extremely snotty one at that.
Lee Atwater died 25 years ago. Didn't incite any whites to massacre blacks though I might be led to a link telling me otherwise. Atwater started a pretty good BBQ chain, Red Hot and Blue. He was a decent blues musician as well. Died at age 40.
@R&B: You are right about one thing: I should factor Fen out of your quote by chasing down your original -- so please don't delete it. Thanks.
Have a great rest of the day!
It's only an "obsession" if you want to blame the Republican abdication of the black vote on blacks.*
*Or worse, don't care.
Chickie doesn't care about the black vote. He thinks their votes are not worth anything to him.
But he's a very racially unbiased man. Sure.
Lol President Jarrett has spoken. The other president is going to address his peeps now on TV.
Lee Atwater died 25 years ago.
Well, at least you can admire him for leaving a more enduring legacy than you'll ever leave, Michael. Youth be damned.
Progs love the infirm:
"This is why it's obvious that you're autistic"
Not meant as a compliment. Sick.
Just a fact, Michael. He admitted it himself.
But I can understand why you identify with people who live in a bubble.
One snippet of a recording of Atwater defines conservatism.
Of course, that completely counters the still-living Stalinists from the 1960s who have found a natural home in the Democrat party.
He's an arch-troll and chronic thread hijacker!!! And an extremely snotty one at that.
Just stating the facts. My, my, you people are very touchy about confirmed RNC strategy!
Progs think it is clever to mock autism. Sick minds. Twisted.

Pure stupidity.
Yes, it's the work of cowards. Anytime armed persons shoot and kill others without provocation and not in a position to defend themselves, in an ambush or any other circumstance, that's cowardice...married to psychopathology. (This is meant as a broad brush statement.)

That a great example of the double negative/erroneous logic which I once caught the elder Althouse son doing. Let me translate using my negation deleter and judge for yourself:

There is no subtle difference between the two versions.

Bye MK.

But really, R&B, if you want to take a dispassionate look at who has been poisoning race relations in America, what about shit-sacks like Willie Horton? Here's what Wikipedia has to say about his accomplishments;
Robert Cook said...

His text to an unidentified (so far) person "bring more weapons" might be a hint.
The truck driver was apparently borderline crazy. That does NOT mean he wasn't a terrorist.

Shep Smith needs to head over to MSNBC to do his BLM schtick.
Hahahaha!!

LOL! Like the RNC has a strategy that it can implement. Trump is pretty much proof that they can't effectively wipe their noses with a tissue in both hands.

@cuban bob: What is not so funny is that most of those urban areas are run by Democrats and have been for decades. Perhaps there is a correlation to the causation of the dysfunction in those neighborhoods.
No coincidence. Of course the Progs want to keep them down. If they become successful, they'll get uppity and become Republicans. ;-)

What is sad is that what we both said has some much truth in it. I for one would be happy if the Black, Latino and White underclass transformed themselves into the middle-class with its virtues and ethics and values even if means no Republican were ever to get elected president for the next two hundred years.
And we've yet to here a peep from Pres. Obama.
Let's petition our hostess to allow him back. Occasionally he actually had some insightful comments.
Crack was never banned. He quit of his own volition as far as I know.
Tom
Obama spoke. Val wrote the remarks. Said nothing. Forgettable.
FFS, can our hostess do something about Ritmo's persistent thread hijacking and abusive, consistently ad hominem attacks?!
The black lives that are getting snuffed out in horrific ways in large numbers are those being killed and enslaved in Africa by muslims.
Naturally that topic is quite verboten in the media.
#Bringbackourgirls (sadface)
Thanks Obama!
Their crying won't help them, and our prayers for them are insignificant to the the non-existent prayers by themselves for us. Ocean's wings bent and silenced.
"Crack was never banned."
IIRC he was the main reason Althouse went to full moderation middle of 2013. He said some very nasty things about her.
Regardless Blogger has no mechanism to ban anyone. There were/are certain folk like Mary who would post and immediately get deleted. A dog and pony show to be sure.
Many folk left after the full moderation escapade. Shocking!
shilho wrote: IIRC he was the main reason Althouse went to full moderation middle of 2013. He said some very nasty things about her.
You recall incorrectly. Besides, by your own admission, weren't you gone by then (July 2013)? You saw through the 2012 election and then disappeared. Are you saying you hung around lurking or posted under a different handle?
I lurked and it was no secret because like a lot of folk posted at Lem's blog for a month during the hilarity.
Try to keep up!
So Valjar called the mayor and told him to say it was a line wolf... He is dead. So nothing to see here, right..
*lone
Why is "Valjar" so intimately involved in shaping the lone wolf narrative?
This sounds like a reason for law enforcement not to trust the Obama ministration.
Guy in BR was black. Member of the Nation of Islam.
Any questions, Robert Cook?
"Aw, Cookie just watches "The Most Trusted Name In News" -CNN.
"Just bing the quote,
"Why watch anything else?
"(Except PBS)"
Actually, I don't. There is no network news that I watch, including PBS.
Which quote, by the way?
If they they have the perps alive, they should be arraigned monday, stand trial Tuesday and by Sunday sunrise executed. Rinse and repeat.
I'll bet the BR mayor has been feeling a lot of heat for mentioning VJ. Hoo-wee did he go off-script. (I'm glad he did, but he's in a heap of trouble.)
Twenty Bucks that's why O's speech was so late.
Ritmo sayin' others are very touchy ~ off the charts irony!
Am I really touchy? If I am, I hope it's about the right things... and not just, "How dare you say that the DNC was right in apologizing for whatever wrongs it committed!"

Yes. He (and I) appreciate a good challenge. And you run from one like the plague.
And thanks tradguy. You're definitely one of the most decent conservatives at this establishment.
If I ever run in danger of losing my own sense of humor or taking myself too seriously, definitely let me know. Hell, take me out to the toolshed and do whatever infelicities occur when being taken to the toolshed.
But I don't expect myself or any Democrats or liberals or whatever to be let off the hook, and I just think it would be nice if some of our colleagues here had the same expectations for themselves.

Good riddance to Michael K. Won't miss him a bit.
Me neither. If there's one thing the guy could never, ever handle, it was being wrong.
People like that just aren't worth conversing with.
Yes indeed.
"great prosperous and productive"
Sorry to let you down about the new reality, Scarlet O'Hara.
Some you seem to enjoy sparring more than discussing the issues. Makes it hard to find the wheat for the chaff. A hell of a lot of chaff here...
More of the Atwater tape:
But Reagan did not have to do a southern strategy for two reasons.
Definitely not a racist comment.
Michael wrote: Definitely not a racist comment.
I agree. It was a partisan comment -- perhaps a highly partisan one. But it was R&B who added the racism via projection.
And how much would you sell them for?
@mockturtle:
