“It took a lot of fresh water and energy,” he said. “It struck me so clearly: It’s not wise that I have to do this. I really felt ashamed then, I really did.”

I've never been in a shower-less hotel, but have been in plenty of tub-less ones.
The King is showing very little ingenuity if he had to take a bath because there was no shower. You can easily dump water on yourself from, say, an icebucket. So I'm calling BS on this.
How did the King get to this hotel, one wonders? In a way that did or did not increase his carbon footprint?
Doesn't local supply and demand matter? It makes a difference if you use a lot of water in an arid area, such as the Middle East, but if you are in Sweden, fresh water is abundant enough to export, even in dry years. In any case, all fresh water is reused over and over again; somebody will eventually drink the King's bath water.
is there a fresh water shortage in sweden?
He was "forced" to take a bath? Was there a struggle? What weapons were involved? You would expect the monarch to have a security team. None such was present, or they were ineffective in preventing those persons forcing the king into the tub?
But being a king causes him no shame?
In Valhalla his ancestors are each and every one claiming to have been cuckolded.
Hey, Gus, you're not my king.
Some of us still like to live as free people, sticking it to our overlords. Just imagine it.
Meanwhile Sweden is collapsing.
He is a role model for Obama.
they do have one major thing in common, and that is the belief that, regardless of what the ruler does, the polity he rules must necessarily continue. This is perhaps the most essential, if seldom acknowledged, insight of the post-modern “liberal” mind: that if you take the pillars away, the roof will continue to hover in the air.
He didn't need a bath. He's already a douche.
Where do King live? One of those tiny houses? Have he just that one little house or have he a few other places?
A Google search reveals a huge country palace (and I mean palace) where the K & Q live, their private villa on the French Mediterranean coast (The Swedish monarchy has French antecedents), a very large summer waterfront home in Sweden and several other palaces occupied by royal princes and princesses. There is also a huge palace in Stockholm which is "ceremonial." King never live there but his government has some offices. The Bureau of Insufferable Bullshit perhaps?
What a dope.
If they are greenies they will have problems with basic sanitation. This guy doesn't want baths. the pope doesn't want air conditioning.
Can I keep my toilet please? Or do you want me to set up an outhouse in the living room? Please, I want to do my part. what else should I forgo to please you? Can I use toilet paper? Can I wash my dishes. Oh wait, have to stop typing as the power is about to go out.. can't have electricity.....
I will be sending you a glass bottle soon with the next message in it. Or is that too much? What is the carbon foot print for glass bottles?
Or how about this, reigning king of Sweden - if there is a bathtub that has a shower in it, take a shower. and not a bath. The bathtub simply allows you the option of taking a bath if you choose to. But you don't actually have to choose to. If you have a washer and a drier, you COULD both wash and dry. But you could also only wash. Or only dry. You are not obligated to use all the features of an appliance simply because they are there.
So how about, instead of calling for banning of bathtubs you simply stop acting like a retard.
I'd be ashamed to take my clothes off to shower OR bathe if I were green, much less a green king.
If His Majesty is so damned concerned about conserving water (and, presumably, the energy required to heat it), perhaps he should think about not bathing every day. At his age, too much water isn't good for his skin, and it's not as if he works up much of a sweat being a figurehead king.
I didn't even realize that Sweden had a king. Let alone that they never heard of a bath tub that had a shower head in it. Does Ikea not make those?
What is it about European royalty and social signaling? Prince Charles has been a nutty leftist for decades, it is one of the reason why I hope his Mom skips him, and makes his son king.
Imagine there's no bathtub
It's easy if you think
No tile below us
Above us only zinc
Imagine all the people
Bathing for today...
Imagine there's no soaking
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to stretch or scrub for
And no bath salts too
Imagine all the people
Standing in the spray...
You may say I'm a stinker
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as dumb
-CP
Now tell me, who's voice did you hear in your head?
Does a bath use more water than a shower? Doesn't that depend on how long you take to shower and how long you have to run the shower before the water warms up? And on the size of the tub?
IKEA must cause brain damage. The role of royalty is a silly enough fantasy anyway. What's one more fantasy called Global Warming to such a bored and useless idiot in an icy place like Sweden.
How long are the King's showers? How deep his baths?
The Swedes are clueless, all the way up. I feel for the awake ones.
Second estate problems.
So, does he pee in the tub? Wouldn't want to waste water to flush it down.
A quick review of history shows that most European monarchs were frikkin' nuts. James the VI, King James of the King James bible, was obsessed with witches and demons, and preferred the company of men over women, especially the company of men who represented and idealized version of himself -- young, handsome, athletic, aristocratic Scotsmen.
When he stepped out of the bath a little Swedish boy said: "But the King is wearing no clothes."
Ann, no Bob Dylan tag? "Even the King of Sweden sometimes has to sit naked......"
So, this is the kings house:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockholm_Palace
"As of 2009 the interior of the palace consists of 1,430 rooms of which 660 have windows. The palace contains apartments for the Royal families, representation and festivities such as the State Apartments, the Guest Apartments and the Bernadotte Apartments. More features are the Hall of State, the Royal Chapel, the Treasury with the Regalia of Sweden, Livrustkammaren and the Tre Kronor Museum located in the remaining cellar vaults from the former castle. The National Library of Sweden was housed in the northeast wing, the Biblioteksflygeln (the Library Wing), until 1878. As of 2014 it houses the Bernadotte Library. The Slottsarkivet is housed in the Chancery Wing. In the palace are the offices of the Royal Court of Sweden, a place of work for approximately 200 employees. The Royal Guards has guarded the palace and the Royal Family since 1523.
A comprehensive renovation of the facade began in 2011, to repair weather damaged parts made from sandstone. The repairs are estimated to cost approx. 500 million crowns (about US$77 million) during a period of 22 years.
And this guy is complaining about bath tubs? How much electricity is required to power 1430 rooms?!? The REPAIRS on the house cost 77 million. Not the house itself. Just the repairs.
I get it, your'e the king. You need a palace. But you can't see the forest for the trees. Your bathtub is not your problem. Your f*cking palace with 1000+ rooms is the problem (if you want to say there is in fact a problem).
We look at celebrities who own 10 million dollar homes that look like mansions and say THEY are hypocrites when they bring up global warming. But this guy lives in a house that makes their houses look like studio apartments.
How many baths can this guy take in a day? Meanwhile how many rooms will have lights turned on in a day. it would be like Ted Bundy thinking his main character flaw was that he was bad at crossword puzzles, as opposed to the fact that he murdered people.
If you live in glass houses, don't throw stones. If you live in a palatial home with 1600 rooms, maybe don't complain about bathtubs. I'm justing saying.
I have not showered any time in the current millennium. I find standing up in cold air while water runs over me detestable. Give me a nice long hot soak and a book to read. Can you even read in a shower?
The line of Gustavus Adolphus - Lion of the North - ended when his daughter King Christina died without issue. (Well, realistically earlier when she had completed menopause.)
This may help explain the personality of the present monarch.
An odd comment by the King of Sweden since in Europe Swedes are not particularly well known for personal hygiene. Some might even say that the fight to eliminate baths in Sweden has already been won.
That's what inbreeding gets you.
Seems Greenies want to depopulate the world by doing away with basic sanitation.
Hey Gus. How about you just soak your head?
Well, that's the Progressive Way. From "I'm concerned" to "It should be banned" is but a tiny step.
She had a dream about the king of Sweden,
Who banned the things he claimed she wasn't needin'.
I, for one, await the King's pronouncement of the water-wastefulness of indoor flush toilets, and his return of Swede to a country with Gazunders, Thunderbuckets, Chamber Pots and other wonderfully named crap-catchers in homes and offices, tucked under beds and desks, with maybe a plywood one-holer out back.
Night soil removal will be a burgeoning industry once again, with horse-drawn wagons full of feces dripping up and down Swedish streets every morning.
And let's not get him started on recycling urine.
And people thought Prince Charles was barmy for talking to his garden vegetation.
The current Swedish royalty descend from Napoleon's underling Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte. When the old line was about to die out - the Swedes brought in Napoleon's Marshall Bernadotte and handed him the throne. At the time, being in Nap's good graces had some value. The new King Charles must have had great political instincts as he was the only Bonapartist to survive the aftermath of Waterloo.
The Palaces are government property full of government workers. They have an apartment. Like the Vice President has an apartment. Royals in Europe are Vice Presidents. He is very down to earthing more transparent. Compared to England.
Sweden is very PC and the King is just reflecting that. They made a big deal about excepting refugees too. Denmark was smarter. They even said as much.
