For the annals of stupidity.

"A Florida couple who were high on drugs spent two days believing they were trapped in a janitors closet and eventually called 911 for help, only to be told by police they could have just opened the door themselves."

The woman's mugshot is a classic:

Nowhere to go but down.

Yeah. I went there.

As soon as you read "Florida couple" you just know it's going to be something criminal and stupid.

The Godfather বলেছেন...

OK, so we can agree that these people are crazy. What do we as a society do about them? What we have done in their case is not much. It seems they've been in the "criminal justice system". We have neither changed them nor chained them.

Perhaps there's a treatment that, in a substantial percentage of cases, would cure people like this, so that they could become normal members of society.

Or perhaps not.

Or perhaps such a treatment would be VERY expensive.

I guess we can laugh at them. If there isn't anything more that we can do.

Fernandinande বলেছেন...

Because it's harder to dial 911 than open am unlocked door, I don't believe it; earlier reports are different, e.g.

Pair found, arrested after being locked in closet for two days
"Detectives say the odd thing is they likely could have gotten out of the closet on their own."

Cracker that is a tad harsh but I would offer them a choice between sterilization and no jail time or the maximum jail time. Now if by the third time they haven't straightened out and starting flying right then flush the toilet.

This is why we conservatives want to keep drugs illegal.

Because every one of us is a ship at sea. And when we don't take care of our ships, they start crashing into one another.

Its wrong to think drugs only harm the users.

Statist thugs whose living is stealing things from people while pretending to be law enforcement are the only people left who support the "War on Drugs." Gun control advocates use criminal activity to push gun control. War on Drug profiteers use drug addicts to strip us of a wide variety of freedoms.

It is cute when you pretend to have other peoples best interests in mind. You are what is wrong with our government.

Just because someone--the cop--said it, doesn't make it true. The handle might have turned when he tried it later, but someone might have unlocked it before he touched it. Like the building manager that came in with the first cops on the scene.

@ surfed

I think your idea is pretty close to the mark. It's like precipitates settling out in a solution; normal people settle out in the middle of the country, and the weird people keep moving, until eventually they reach the end of a peninsula and hit water and can't go any farther. This explains Florida (especially Key West), New Orleans, San Francisco, Cape Cod, etc.

says the guy who sells pot for a living. and I,m not saying pot is the same as meth when it comes to sales. but then you shouldn't make comparisons between legalizing pot vs legalizing meth. Because there are very good arguments for keeping meth illegal.

jr565 বলেছেন...

if you legalize something it's regulated. Drugs have to go through trials before being released to the public. When three people, died using Phen Phen they demand it be taken off the market. How then could you ever have a safe meth thet didn't immediately run into those exact problems?
Meth destroys your brains dopamine production and leaves people depressed for decades. Think of the amount of money society will have to pay to then help people overcome meth addiction.
And a meth dealer shouldnt be able to profit from a drug thwt will turn its user into a drug fiend who will become functionally useless simply for his own profit. unless we want to loosen all restrictions on drugs.

jr565 বলেছেন...

Also, even when we have legal products like cigarettes where vendors can sell them, the anti war on drug extremists still have issues when people sell them illegally. You got the legal sales! But even selling things, but doing so according to the law is too much for you. Even that is nanny statism.

JSD বলেছেন...

Idiocracy. More proof that human intelligence peaked long long ago. In biblical days, stupid people got killed or just died. Now they just live on, carry EBT cards, have babies and get wacked. It’s only going to get worse.

"Florida man" decapitated his mother with an axe recently.

Heartless Aztec বলেছেন...

It's a matter of numbers. In 1970 Florida had about 3 million people. Now it has close to 20 million. The % of whack jobs has risen exponentially. My solution as a 61 year native is an Amendment to the Florida Constitution - as of January 2016 no new resident may have air conditioning and bug spray/insect service They must choose, only being allowed one. Problem solved.

Don't think about what you are saying. Don't look at the unintended consequences of stripping the rights of millions because of the actions of a few thousands. Oh and throw in a couple straw men while you are at it.

That is a good little sheeple.

I believe there are better ways to reduce meth use than arrest, imprisonment, and asset confiscation for users. The problem is the users are usually dumb and desperate and easy to catch so our enforcement focuses on them. The people who cook it and sell it are smart, rich and violent. But again this is used to justify "no-knock" raids. They use procedures that we stopped using overseas because civilians got hurt. There are constitutional ways to combat meth use. There just isn't enough opportunity to steal other people's stuff.

Unless the crazies want to either pick winter vegetables, lay pipe or herd cattle, there's nothing for'em in South Texas and besides, the Welfare don'pay so good.

ken in tx বলেছেন...

Here in Austin, which is not south Texas, it's central Texas, we have a bunch of them. Every major intersection, exit and on ramp to the various expressways has two or more beggars with signs standing there. They look kind of like these folks.

Back in Greenville, SC, where I just moved from, there was a publication called Jailbirds which published local mug shots. The clerk in my liquor store said that almost all of them were regular customers of her's.

I suspect the same is true of these intersection beggars in Austin.

But it never works that way as I addressed in my post. The confiscators aren't interested in helping society, they just want to confiscate whatever they can get a hold of.
