There must be some expert opinion about the best way to control the public response. Earlier today, we heard that the decision would come later today, and only now are we hearing the precise time, which is awfully late, 8 Central Time.
I presume there is no indictment, because, otherwise, why drag it out like this?
UPDATE: No charges will be filed.

Giving the working folks time to get home before the festivities kick off.
They should release one word every day for a month.
Trying to time it for Monday Night Football?
3 Mikes?
Fires at night make for better TV.

Hopefully the grand jury went with the facts and corroborated testimony wherever they lead them.
Tell you what, Althouse, go ask Reginald Denny or Pat Kasthurirangaian or David Rivas Morales why they might schedule the announcement of the grand jury decision until after working people get home safely.
While you're figuring it out, I'll be carrying with a spare mag.
Can the five of us delete the ribbon guy's comment? He doesn't belong here.
It appears to me the timing has been orchestrated to maximize media hype and foment protestor activity. Personally, I would have announced a decision at 8:00 am, kinda' like Obama releasing regulations the night before a holiday.
Why is that MikeR ?
Matter and anti-matter. We all need to back away ....
"It appears to me the timing has been orchestrated to maximize media hype and foment protestor activity. Personally, I would have announced a decision at 8:00 am, kinda' like Obama releasing regulations the night before a holiday."

Sorry, MikeR, but theribbonguy has a valid point. It's mostly about the TV.
Nothing personal, ribbonguy. It's just that your name is not Mike.
I am Mike!
Are riots planned for a guilty or not guilty verdict?
I wonder if the blacks in Madison will protest. Or just play hearts. Three handed.
@Greg Hlatky, if you're Mike then I'm number seven.
I predict a true bill for something like manslaughter That won't make anyone happy.
Early morning makes a lot more sense than night. CNN must have paid them off.
There is a special on gasoline, rags and glass bottles until midnight. Get yours before they are all sold out.
Question: can wooden telephone poles be set on fire?
Seriously, the cable channels CNN and MSNBC are excited in hopes this this will be black Friday come early because they will hit profitable from the advertising sold for the year.

yes, at least the old fashioned creosote ones.
We used to build the old college bob fire out of used telephone poles and railroad ties. both covered with dried creosote...
Be forewarned, guys, that any time something like this happens, Al Sharpton lunges for the nearest Mike.
FOX and CNN have a view of the crowd that also shows a Seasons Greetings sign spanning the road. Any bets how long that stays up after the announcement if there is no indictment?
My vote is cowardice. If they were serious, they would've rendered their no bill when the polar vortex was at its nadir, see if the usual suspects were willing to brave freezing temps to get free liquor ...
Need several hours to call up police reserves, mobilize Guardsmen, and spin up off-shift emergency response people and bring LEO support in from other counties.
Also they have a few hours to round up known instigators for whatever. Takes a day before that pesky writ of habeas corpus becomes a problem.
"Nothing personal, ribbonguy. It's just that your name is not Mike."
Well OK then..that's valid.
It gets cold at night. Harder to get people fired up when it's below 40 degrees.
Across the lines
Who would dare to go
Under the bridge
Over the tracks
That separates whites from blacks
Choose sides
Run for your lifes
Tonight the riots begin
On the back streets of america
They kill the dream of america
Little black girl gets assaulted
Ain't no reason why
Newspaper prints the story
And racist tempers fly
Next day it starts a riot
Knives and guns are drawn
Two black boys get killed
One white boy goes blind
Across the lines
Who would dare to go
Under the bridge
Over the tracks
That separates whites from blacks
Choose sides
Run for your lifes
Tonight the riots begin
On the back streets of america
They kill the dream of america
Little black girl gets assaulted
Don't no one know her name
Lots of people hurt and angry
She's the one to blame
Across the lines
Who would dare to go
Under the bridge
Over the tracks
That separates whites from blacks
Choose sides
Run for your lifes
Tonight the riots begin
On the back streets of america
They kill the dream of america

According to the garages of the world, for a "guilty" decision (more precisely, returning an indictment) when, apparently, the whites might riot.
According to reality, for a "not guilty" decision (not returning an indictment) when some african-americans have traditionally taken the opportunity to avail themselves of the increased availability of commercial goods at commercial establishments in their local area through non-announced extended hours "shopping".
Which is cool.
According to Celine Dion even!

If you don't lunge at them through their windows and grab the police revolvers, the police tend to be much more relaxed.
Hopefully garage was able to get a few more pipe bombs down to the outgunned and "peaceful" protestors.
Hopefully cops stay peaceful.
We have reached Peak Dumbass.
Missouri authorities will time the announcement for when protesters are away re-charging their EBT cards.
"Protesters can't be armed? Why not?"
My God, you really are a special snowflake aren't you ?
The myriad of obvious answers to that should be painfully obvious to a flatworm.
Lets start with the fact that the minute a "peaceful protestor" picks up a weapon he is no longer a protestor but an armed threat to society.
Now if he is truly a reasonable person he has every right to carry as afforded in the 2nd amendment. But if he was a reasonable person he wouldn't be on the streets when the decision comes down.
I'm afraid to ask, but do you think the individual depicted in my link would be qualified as reasonable ?
Dumb*ss protestors will burn down their own neighborhoods, like they did in LA.
Then complain about "food deserts".
I'd do an aileron roll-out, just as a more pleasant maneuver.
Isn't there a basketball game or something whose end could be used for the announcement.
Then you get conflicting riots and they cancel.
rhhardin: "Then you get conflicting riots and they cancel."
We'll need to get the harmonics just right.....
I'd question whether this isn't a good place, of the rioters, to bring back the n-word, using it in one of the fond senses that blacks do of each other, meaning stupidly self-defeating.
But not fondly exactly.
Don't be such a nigger.
Self-defeating doesn't work out well. Asking if they can see that.
But don't let me spoil the TV fun.
Somehow, I don't think they'll sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" before throwing out the first Molotov.
Lets start with the fact that the minute a "peaceful protestor" picks up a weapon he is no longer a protestor but an armed threat to society.
Really. So the Tea Party showing up armed to protests are "threats to society"? What should we do about them?
Now if he is truly a reasonable person he has every right to carry as afforded in the 2nd amendment.
Let me guess: you get to decide who is "reasonable", therefore who gets to arm themselves and where. Sounds reasonable! Just let us know okay.
garage: "Really. So the Tea Party showing up armed to protests are "threats to society"? What should we do about them?"
I would leave them alone since they always left their rally sites cleaner than when they arrived.
This is in marked contrast to "Occupy Stupidistan" protesters who defecate on police cars...and he didn't even wipe himself...because wiping yourself just shows that you are still a slave to the SYSTEM baby!!!
"Really. So the Tea Party showing up armed to protests are "threats to society"? What should we do about them?"
Got me there...no doubt the quality of people attending Tea Party rallies is EXACTLY the same as these upstanding examples of our citizenry that previously looted and burned their own neighbourhood...EXACTLY.
"Let me guess: you get to decide who is "reasonable", therefore who gets to arm themselves and where. Sounds reasonable! Just let us know okay. "
BZZZT..wrong again (shocking I know).
The dealer making the sale does, via the background check process.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest the dude at the link I provided might have a wee problem with that.
garage mahal said..."Really. So the Tea Party showing up armed to protests are "threats to society"? What should we do about them?"
When did Tea Party rallies ever devolve into riots and looting? The only violence that I can recall occurring at a Tea Party rally was when some SEIU thugs jumped a black man. No rape tents at Tea Party rallies, Mr. Occupy Wall Street. No rocks or bottles thrown, no barricades erected, no squatting in public places, no fires set, no buildings broken into, looted and burned down. No support from democrat party media, either. In other words, completely unlike anything related to progressive democrat party member protests.
Well, that's that. Let's see what happens now.
They are hoping for a huge rainstorm. Or locusts.
My prayers are with the innocents. I'm afraid the inevitable begins now.
No indictments returned.
garage and other leftist "whiteys" (why not if garage can use "blacky's") who are "down for the struggle" hardest hit.
Got me there.
Yep. Thanks for playing, hack.
White tea bagger protestors can point rifles at federal law enforcement officials, but black protestors can't carry at all. Gee, I wonder what the difference is????
Rashomon.
Interesting that so much initial "street" testimony was changed.
no indictment.
we shall see what holder cooks up now for federal charges.
point rifles at federal law enforcement officials,
Oh, then I'm sure you can link us to pictures of that. It should be interesting, because every picture I've seen shows people with shouldered and holstered arms, demonstrating peacefully in places that recognize their right to do so.
It would be nice if the cops would shoot a certain lilly white fat fuck in Madison.
You know, for the sake of diversity.
from usa today: St. Louis County Police asked for donations for officers working round-the-clock shifts in Ferguson. Items requested on the department's Facebook page include Visa gift cards, water, Gatorade, soda, hand and foot warmers, DayQuil and cough drops. The department said it uses the gift cards to order hot meals for the command centers.
USATODAY
I think they chose not to indict just for the "Crack-bait" factor.
;)
"Oh, then I'm sure you can link us to pictures of that. It should be interesting, because every picture I've seen shows people with shouldered and holstered arms, demonstrating peacefully in places that recognize their right to do so."

Though I'm sure our resident special ed student is conflating the rancher standoff with a Tea Party rally..cuz you know ..EXACTLY the same thing.
You won't mind me considering being called a "hack" by you garage as a badge of honor will you ?
Reginald Denny, not Trayvon Martin or Michael Brown, seem to be the current Emmett Till in how the authorities release information.
"It would be nice if the cops would shoot a certain lilly white fat fuck in Madison"
You would have to leave that to the government, wouldn't you? You certainly couldn't do any harm to me. Are you jerking off to the cops in riot gear, little facsist?
Oh fuck me...I go out for a smoke and when I come back I find the Jug Eared Jesus cutting into my Big Bang Theory re-run to pander his ass off.
Our divider in chief is currently on TV, doing his part to make things worse.
So now president Hussein is supposed to speak. Can't wait for the healing words from this dickhead, probably as helpful as "If I had a son, he'd look like L'il Mike "Punch that Pussy" Brown. Not as healing as "my grandmother the typical white person" though. After all, that was a speech for the ages, known by progressive democrats as "The Speech On Race", the one where he lied about knowing Reverend "Goddam America" Wright. Wonder if he'll have fellow liar and race-baiter Al Sharpton appearing with him. Probably not, Hussein doesn't like sharing the stage when he can be the only "star".
White tea bagger protestors can point rifles at federal law enforcement officials, but black protestors can't carry at all. Gee, I wonder what the difference is????
So far a few gunshots (God knows where they were aimed), 1 police car and a chinese restaurant.
The good news? Not one of garage's heros has defecated on a police car!! I mean, that's good news for us. Not so much for garage.
Do you have any other questions?
garage: "You would have to leave that to the government, wouldn't you?"
Well, as long as it's local authorities instead of the feds I don't think it would be that big of a problem. After all, you are down for the struggle aren't you?
Come on. Take one for the team like you did in middle school football!!
Everyone: just go back indoors and have anal sex. The worst will blow over.
I am Laslo.
It was cold.. it was dark... the announcement dragged on and on... and there were LOTS OF COPS.
Add the fact that all the facts were presented (still some will ignore that) and you can see why things didn’t get ugly.
Awwww, Tubby is having a sad.
I thought you loved unions, Bitchtits?
Siding with the looters over the local police union, tsk tsk.

Well, it's still cold of course but some more of garage's heroes (who are definitely not like those horrible tea party protesters) have decided to light a few fires. You know, to ward off the cold.
All very neighborly of course.
The prosecutor said that the witnesses who testified, under oath, that Brown charged Wilson were all Black. One would think that might temper the outrage but prob wishful thinking ...
More good news! It looks like some of the buildings that are due for "renovation" tonight might be eligible for gov't loans to rebuild!!
Of course, you'd have to be an idiot to rebuild there, so most won't.
crack and garage will explain shortly why that is all the fault of the conservatives on these boards.
Drago, where are you getting the info ? Is there a feed you can recommend?
steve uhr: "The prosecutor said that the witnesses who testified, under oath, that Brown charged Wilson were all Black."
What was most telling about that was that the prosecutor also said many of those witnesses came forward anonymously.
It's clear that those black residents of Ferguson who saw what really happened and wanted to tell the truth knew that they couldn't do that in a public way because if they did...well. Is it really so hard to imagine the reception they would get back in the neighborhood from the local crack-types?
Well, CNN showed some of garages heroes actually trashing the police car.
Then a couple of the CNN guys said they had walked right past a chinese restaurant that a couple of garages heroes put some bricks through then there were the many reports of gunfire (as told by the CNN guys) coming from the crowd.
Of course, garage will probably tell us that some tea partiers have infiltrated the crowds there in order to gin up a false flag incident.
I understand the tea party provocateurs have been using secret routers to communicate.
I saw part of the prosecutor's press conference. A lot of the questions directed at him seemed adversial and hostile. The prosecutor looked poised and conciliatory. None of the reporters seemed willing to entertain the possibility that Officer Wilson was an innocent man......I also saw the President's announcement. He tilted toward Brown but tried to defuse the situation. I think he will have about as much impact on the protesters in Ferguson as he has upon Putin......I'm going to read a good book about events in Louis XIV's reign. Too much agita if you follow current events.
Oh look, they are liberating that meat and liquor from the evils of white supremacy.
A reporter was hit in the head by a brick.
I hope it was that British dolt who asked the DA why cops can kill blacks with impunity in America. Or the other dipshit who whined "What message does this send to the community?"
Gee, maybe the message is that in America, the rule of law still sometimes trumps the mob braying for blood.
Oh, now they're hitting the liquor store - protest that injustice! Give to it to The Man! And grab a few 6 packs of Olde English while you're at it! Don't forget the Swishers.

Good news! Some more of garages heroes, no doubt members of the Great Peoples Army, have "liberated" some of the Peoples Liquor from a local bourgeois establishment!
Just speaking Truth to Power.
Now some of garages masked heroes are knocking over Fox News cameras!
For the People!!
Can you imagine being a law abiding citizen in that area and hunkering down with your kids so no stray bullets from garages heroes come thru the windows/walls and hit one of your precious children?
It must make them sick.
And on top of it, you have idiots like garage/crack who try and justify it.
It would be pretty sweet if Chris Hayes takes a bottle to the head on live TV.
Better news!! We now have a burning beauty salon...no more cold protestors!!
Black Monday bargains start now! All merchandise 100% off! Doors broken open at 8:00 p.m.!
Louis XIV knew how to handle dissidents, with dragonnades, the ultima ratio regis, and the Bastille. Today's equivalent would be setting the National Guard on them with tanks I suppose, plus the secret detention facilities in the Southwest.
It was his much less capable descendant Louis XVI that let the mob get away with murder.
I must say it is some consolation for me to see that garage has taken time out from his strong vocal support for Hamas terrorists in Gaza to voice support for American violent protesters.
R-I-G-H-T...cuz it's LEO we have to worry about...
You make it sound like the options are "worry about the rioters" or "worry about the cops".
A sensible person worries about both, in my opinion.
theribbonguy: "Better news!! We now have a burning beauty salon...no more cold protestors!!"
Best news? They look terrific.
Revenant: "A sensible person worries about both, in my opinion."
Too true.
The difference is, of course, is that your actions will more often than not dictate the officers reactions.
When it comes to garages heroes, all bets are off. Those guys are a real non-linear system.
The difference is, of course, is that your actions will more often than not dictate the officers reactions.
The more significant difference is that I'm forced, upon pain of imprisonment, to pay the salaries of the officers... in exchange for which they probably won't harm me, if I display the proper amount of obsequiousness.
Dealing with rioters is easier; I own a gun.
"A sensible person worries about both, in my opinion."
Puh-leez.
DHS is there, National Guard is there, DOJ is there, and the local PD is well aware the eyes of the nation are on them.
I worry about the safety of the LEO's with the ROE's imposed on them.
So am I to understand "garage mahal" is rooting for the looters who are mad at the police because one of the police defended himself with deadly force against a 300 pound assailant? I know he's a moron. And it's hard to parse the most stupid thing he's ever said. But Damn!
"garage mahal" has declared himself aligned against the forces of civilization. I hope civilization treats "garage mahal" accordingly.
Revenant: "The more significant difference is that I'm forced, upon pain of imprisonment, to pay the salaries of the officers... in exchange for which they probably won't harm me, if I display the proper amount of obsequiousness."
Can't argue with that. However I will quibble just a bit.
I don't think you are saying you don't want police protection you'd just like for the police to remember who they really work for and act accordingly (professional and a great deal of respect toward the public).
Feel free to disabuse me if I'm off base.
I'm going to take a peek in again to see what garages heroes are up to now.
No doubt planning their next ice cream social.
Looks like the beauty salon was just a part of a strip mall..it's in full blaze now...

The difference is, the Tea Party showed up to protest. These guys have demonstrated they are showing up to riot.
Protesting while exercising your second amendment rights -- Acceptable
Rioting with a gun -- Not acceptable
You owe me your life for that piece of advice, son.

Garage will go to bed happy now.
The police are returning fire now.
Time for riots and looting.
No justice, no peace!

They were looting a Dollar Store. A friggin' Dollar Store.
Morons hauling out armfuls of crap worth about $20 total.
I don't think you are saying you don't want police protection
Well, I didn't mention police protection one way or the other. But what I will say, since you've brought it up, is that it is a myth. Police don't protect you; police show up to draw a chalk outline around the body.

I'm glad the police took the warnings seriously at least. And those poor retail employees -- just trying to eek out a living. There will be little to no compensation for them in the holiday season thanks to the looters. Once again, the honest working poor get the shaft.

This Revenant fellow is growing on me. I can't allow that. I shall make an effort to find a point of contention.
This melee is one big Spike Lee masturbation fantasy.
And tomorrow Ta-Nehisi Coates will defend it.
Wait for it.
Thank goodness we have the CNN reporters informing us, over and over and over and over and over, that gee, it's really a "mostly peaceful" protest going on. It's just a very small number of agitators causing the trouble.
Context not provided, ever, for any event involving any non-liberal/leftist approved group.
Ever.
Even when nothing happens, they'll find something that they can hang on the entire group. Usually involving a sign or something someone says that is characterized as "violent".
chickelit: "And tomorrow Ta-Nehisi Coates will defend it."
Well, he better or crack will have nothing to say.
The circle turns as Ferguson thugs re-enact the robbery of the same store that Michael Brown robbed to start his confrontation with police officer Wilson. That store had better go close up forever since robbing it is what causes the trouble every time.
What's with the "you can indict a ham sandwich" but you can't indict a .... LEO double standard?
http://althouse.blogspot.com/2014/08/they-say-prosecutor-could-get-grand.html
Wow that was the third result on google for "you can indict a ham sandwich".
You can indict an egg, but not a chicken?
You can indict a horse's ass, but not a horse?
You can indict the junk in the elephant's trunk, but not the elephant?
How the hell does Van Jones have a job w/ CNN? Or any job??
He actually said tonight the STL County prosecuting atty was "divisive" in his comments, implying the riots were his fault for not defusing the situation.
I heard the same atty say several times that any loss of life is tragic, even if no indictment was returned, and express sympathy to the Brown family.
He was more conciliatory than Jones was, by a longshot.
Defense atty Geragoes (sp) on CNN argued it is outrageous the prosecutor didn't get an indictment given the low burden. if the GJ did indict and Wilson hired him he would argue the precise opposite.
Ferguson is burning and asshole Gov. Nixon just now, at 1:15 am, is activating the National Guard. He promised the mayor the help and has dragged his feet until now.
Firemen can't get in to do their work because fools are shooting at them. Until things are secure, burn baby burn. Thanks Jay Nixon.
So many people are now out of work. Before Christmas. Thanks assholes...many who don't even live here.
Just watched a thug start some cars, in a car lot, on fire. They are blowing up.
ewe-nanny-mouse
with three African-Americans on the Grand Jury
Well, what would we expect? Al Sharpton to go on TV and say "well, we asked for an investigation and we got one, and the grand jury clearly did not have enough evidence to indict, but at least the process works--we don't really know exactly what happened that night. Let's move on to other things"?
The grand jury didn't have enough to indict this particular ham sandwich--the evidence must be incredibly thin. So be it--I wasn't in the grand jury so I can't say whether they acted properly, but there's no indication as yet that they didn't. Would black people really be better served in a system where it was EASIER to bring charges and convictions? Considering how much more likely young black men have run ins with the law compared to the general population, I'd think not.
Injustice!
Free shit!
The most logical possibility of what happened that night is that Brown made several moves that Wilson interpreted as threatening, which escalated the situation until he shot Brown to death. It is highly unlikely that Wilson did not fear for his safety and just decided to execute a stranger for fun, and it's also unlikely that Brown was such an idiot that he'd try to charge an armed, uniformed officer with nothing but his bare hands and wits. Most likely, this arose from two men misreading each other with tragic results.
Maybe police forces need better procedures to de-escalate stops like this, or maybe citizens should understand that the most important thing in any police stop is to ensure you aren't posing a threat, or maybe it's a little of both.
"Injustice!
Free shit!"
I do like how great injustices can best be cured with an unearned appliance.
I think one of the root causes of this riot is the pigeon-holing the media does. Michael Brown was an unarmed teenager in the first story and that never changed. I remember a feature story on this phenomenon. Someone looked to see how often Jerry Lee Lewis was described as "piano-pounding." It was often enough to make me wonder what value journalists bring to society.
I live in a city with a high fraction of black residents who can trace their ancestry to slaves in just a few generations. The location of the former slave market downtown and the black schools is well known. But we don't have those institutions in our society any more. The journalists do their best to remind us that this state was formerly a part of the Confederacy and black people, on average, don't have the incomes white people do. You know what? My field is engineering. Many non-white people excel in my field as entrepreneurs and every level of engineering companies. I have really enjoyed getting to know their cultures. We all understand you get ahead by getting your job done correctly, on time, and under budget. Why journalists don't see the world that way is beyond me--but it means I quit watching the news and its advertisers years ago. I have a pretty good middle-class disposable income but sponsors of news have no access to it. Well, I better get to the office. I have two reports to finish today.
Protesters can't be armed? Why not?
Depends on what you're protesting. If you're supporting a millionaire rancher who doesn't want to pay grazing fees then it is perfectly fine among the Althouse crowd to protest while heavily armed.
Meanwhile, you got Drago beating off all night long in the hopes he gets to see someone take a crap in public so he can once again condemn an entire group for the actions of a small few.
Bet the Amazon portal is going to get a LOT of clicks before this is all over.
I did not hear anything about what was in the autopsy reports last night, but I think they will show that Michael Brown was under the influence of more than just marijuana.
Viz. the video of the convenience store hold-up and the story of his behavior when challenged by officer Wilson. The two fits together.
Everybody on the left and the big media inciting violence by saying 'he was an unarmed guy and the officer killed him'.. but that is a gross simplification of what happened.. consider this alternate scenario:
the black guy goes for officer's gun and hits him in the face and may be runs off -- so the officer is supposed to slink away and drive away after that?
or if the officer gets out of the car and tries to stop the perpetrator but the perpetrator does not stop -- the officer is supposed to get back in his car and drive away, for fear of an altercation with the guy?
At no point is there a rule that the officer needs to simply walk away and drive his car away. Especially in this case, he needed to apprehend this guy who was not cooperating. It is unfortunate that the guy did what he did to make the officer think he was a danger. If only he had cooperated.
"Everybody on the left and the big media inciting violence by saying 'he was an unarmed guy and the officer killed him'.. but that is a gross simplification of what happened.. "
I can't speak for the Left, or the Sharptonite protesters because they're collectively stupid bigots whose opinions on anything other than how to loot McDonalds are grossly misinformed.
But I think the point of the "unarmed Brown" statement is that that fact implies that Brown would have had to be either under severe influence of hard drugs (his autopsy revealed pot, but nothing that would have made him lose touch with reality) or under some sort of psychotic break to try to attack a cop when he was unarmed.
That's not to say the cop did anything wrong--most likely (and as the grand jury seems to have found) the cop genuinely feared for his life and acted properly, even if it led to Brown's death. What the protesters on the Left are unwilling to consider is that Brown may have done some dumb things (disobey the cop, run from the cop, advance on the cop, reach towards his pants) that escalated the situation and led to his own death.
The "unarmed" part of it though suggests that even if the cop wasn't wrong in those circumstances, this was still a tragedy--what should have been an arrest turned into a death. Even if Brown acted stupidly, and was no angel (e.g., the robbery) it's worth asking whether this could have been avoided, even if the answer is that it only could have been avoided if Brown had taken different actions.
Though the Left and Race Agitators seem to be saying that it's all racist cops' fault, the end. Which is a wonderful attitude if you don't mind a few more black kids getting killed like this.
Michael Brown was an unarmed teenager in the first story and that never changed.
There is a significant portion of the population who are ignorant of the law, and believe that you cannot use a weapon against an unarmed man. Witness crack, whining endlessly that Brown was unarmed.
I've heard people ignorantly state that you cannot use a gun to defend yourself against someone with a knife, which is incorrect. I can, legally, defend myself with a knife, gun, sword, fork, hammer, beer bottle, or any weapon I so choose, against anyone - armed or not - if I am in imminent danger of death or great bodily harm. At least in the state of Wisconsin.
witness says that Brown charged officer like a football player. After telling cop "you're too much of a pussy to shoot me" or something to that effect. All the witnesses who supposedly saw him running away with hands up DIDNT testify at the grand jury. Some of the witnesses making the polices case were themselves black. And we supposedly have an audio tape of the shooting. Which I,d imagine enforces the cops version of events. It will be released at some point.

But I think the point of the "unarmed Brown" statement is that that fact implies that Brown would have had to be either under severe influence of hard drugs (his autopsy revealed pot, but nothing that would have made him lose touch with reality) or under some sort of psychotic break to try to attack a cop when he was unarmed.
we don't know how Brown was while under the influence of pot. A lot of people become sedate but others become aggressive. And we don't know that Browns character to know that he wouldn't think he could get away with charging a cop he thought was weak. Whtether high or otherwise.
He was a 6'5” behemoth who only a few moments ago manhandled a shop owner and then walked down the middle of street like he owned it.

The family is supposedly saying they want peace and calm but the stepfather is on video screaming 'burn this bitch down" over and over.

Maybe not the way to push the crowd to not burn stuff down. And I'll note, the bitch was burned down.
Amazing how blacks always want to burn down their own town. They know they can't get to whitey.

All of which points to him being a thug, and likely not very bright. But it takes a certain kind of departure from reality to charge a cop who has his gun drawn, thinking you could take him (unarmed) before he got a shot off.
I can believe he struck the cop through the window first, and ran with the cop following after that. But what happened when he stopped to turn around is what's fuzzy, and while I think the cop did reasonably fear for his safety by thinking Brown was armed and trying to attack him, I also think Brown wasn't actually trying to charge Wilson at that point (unless he was in a psychotic break, or under a drug that would alter his reality).
Not that it matters--Brown it appears is the one to escalate this, and there's no evidence Wilson acted improperly. It sucks for Wilson though, because surely he didn't want things to go this way and now his career is ruined.

See the important thing is when the appliance store owner sees his livelihood go to hell in one night over something he had nothing to do with, he can think "if only I did more to fight white privilege, never mind that I'm probably black but who's keeping track?"
This is the world of the Social Justice Warrior.
It's not a proper riot.
There are no Koreans with guns on the roofs.
