"What the ding-dong heck is going on if this is still something we're talking about?"

"I love that, with "the ding-dong heck.'"

I say "fucking hell" myself, but I think it's nice that Emma Thompson says "ding-dong heck" (answering the question "Are people writing better parts for women now?"), and funny that Oprah loved it.

"But you complain about Miley Cyrus et al.?"

Question has a premise that's not established.

That rude language and rude behavior are connected.

I am disinclined to take the time to get into a discussion involving Oprah and women about woman's issues and race. Its a well establish path that seems to mainly be about maintaining Oprah's place at the top of the heap of the most wonderful and caring person ever. But that's just me.

I'm going to guess Emma Thompson is on live TV a bit more frequently than you are (by design, I'm guessing also).

question i always wanted to ask: what in in Sam Hill is a copulation/copulating hell?!

n.b. i assume that "[fucking] hell" is used as a metaphor

I use "Sam Hill" and "tarnation" in order to save the really harsh words for really harsh situations.

I like a John Wayne quote a local radio station would play
"It's gettin' to be ree-goddamn-dick-you-luss"

Oops, make that "Saddles"

"Daddles" has a certain ring to it, though

I don't believe that Oprah actually loved what Emma Thompson said. I think she was turning away the conversation from where Emma Thompson was headed.

I get along without rude language entirely, except for "shit" when something goes wrong.

Roughcoat বলেছেন...

Why did you inform us that you prefer to say "fucking hell"?

Lucien বলেছেন...

Gone, with the passing of "Dexter", are Debra Morgan's baroque and light-hearted elaborations on the use of "fuck".

We prefer to think of our female university professors as refined ladies. "Fucking Hell" introduces cognitive dissonance.

I don't say it in class!!

I might say "hell" ... But never "fuck."

Unless it was a quote from the case, only "fuck the draft," you know that case.

When I was a little girl, my very elderly piano teacher told me she once had her mouth washed out with soap for saying, "Ye Gads and little fishes." I still do not know what that means.

Well, Emma Thompson specializes in twee and Oprah in schmaltz. It's like peanut butter and jelly, really. A natural.

""Are people writing better parts for women now?"

I don't see how there could be a better part than "Barbarella," but I don't mind if people keep trying.

"Question has a premise that's not established."

Precisely. This is the premise of all discussion regarding the state of oppressed people.

I recall, though, that Oprah Winfrey has has a few good parts when she was acting. I wish actors would stick to what they are good at; being told what to say, where to stand, and so on. Thinking for themselves - a loose term - is not good. Unfortunately, their sounding board is their own sycophants.

(To be fair, there are some fairly grounded actors, both liberal and conservative, that are more humble in their presentation of their views).

What's with the whining that other people aren't doing what you want, such as "writing better parts for women"?

If you don't like how something's being done, do it your own damn self. Or just shut up, because other people don't take orders from you.

""What the ding-dong heck is going on if this is still something we're talking about?""

What is going on is the usual female complaining about non-existent problems, based on the notion that other people need to change to make the female happy.

SGT Ted nails it.

Actresses who complain about lack of parts for women and can finance an indy film with what they pay the staff to keep up one of their houses live in their own special world. When they say there are no parts for women, what they mean is "no one will pay me $10,000 a week to act in a movie that appeals to me" Poor things.
