"Awfully cold this year. This is the first time in 10 years that I actually started wearing pants to work."

"Once I hit the zero mark, that was it...."

An extreme example of the tendency of postal workers to wear shorts.

I wear bermudas all year, just with sweat pants over them below about 40F.

Two sweat pants below 30F

Three below 15F.

That's for bike riding. You get the right cooling profile from the lower leg less protected than the upper leg.

Trick for warm hands - keep the wrists warm. The hand warming shuts down if the wrists are cold.

Trick for warm feet - ~90% wool socks. Carhart is shading them a little less these days, which probably works too, but you need the high percentage wool.

Ohio is having a winter weather event warning, according to the radio.

"We're tracking the winter weather as it approaches Columbus..."

Stay tuned for exciting details.

I don't know if it will reach summer thunderstorm levels or will peter out before it gets here. You just never know with weather.

The power company reports it's ready to respond to any power outages.

Can it get any more exciting?

When I was in college in the 1990s I seem to remember idiots on campus who would regularly wear shorts and sandals (birkenstocks) in the middle of January... in upstate NY... when snow was on the ground.

This deserves a men in uniform shorts tag.

Elizabeth Warren wants the mailmen to turn into bankers. Then we'd have bankers in shorts.

Why does Ann hate men in shorts? Or is it that she dislikes pale, spindly, hairy legs? What if it were a hunk wearing shorts, would she be OKAY with that?

নামহীন বলেছেন...

That postal worker must have been wearing a Wild Willy Warmer under those shorts.

Elizabeth Warren wants the mailmen to turn into bankers.

It's actually a great idea.

When I was in elementary school, back in the sixties, girls wore skirts to school no matter what. Plus those cute saddle shoes, but I digress.

I always admired their toughness, and sixties was pre-global warming and post warm thirties, so it was cold some mornings.

Bankers in shorts, like in Bermuda. Maybe she is on to something!

You have to scroll down for the image of bankers in shorts.

Inga, how did you post than link without getting "www.blogger.com" appended to the front of it?

Wow, Nonapad--and I thought the shorts-in-winter thing was just a recent fad! I first noticed it when the movie "300" came out, and often saw fratboy/jock types wearing sandals along with the shorts. I figured it was some macho thing--a way of telling people, "Hey, look at me! I'm Spartan tough!"

I often wonder if the trendoids who wear shorts in winter are the same people who wear wool hats in the dog days of summer.

If you are going to wear your clothes "ironically," you may as well go the whole hog.

Martin said he was able to wear shorts through previous cold winters, but his tolerance for cold has gone down with age. THE END.

If the UPI reporter had put the last sentence first, there would be no story - so there is no story here.

When we get older, . . . the fat layer under the skin thins. This layer acts as a cushion for the skin, helping protect and support it. The fat layer also helps conserve body heat. When the layer thins, wrinkles are more likely to develop, and tolerance for cold decreases.

I'd be fired, if I failed to wear pants to work.

I've been told that the correct wear for winter grilling in upstate New York is T-shirt and shorts.

Exactly! Who-in-heck wants their mail to get delivered???

What?

garage,

If all our mailmen turn into bankers, who will deliver our mail?

(Sheesh, typical elitist garbage, not realizing the vital contributions to society made by the working class...)

Moose বলেছেন...

Men who wear shorts are clearly more manly then men that wear long pants...

Um, it's obvious you have no clue about this concept and I don't have the time to explain.

All the kids here in the mountains wear shorts and often sandals.

" It's actually a great idea. "
Yea, maybe it'll be as successful as it was here " http://www.nytimes.com/1992/03/25/us/ex-house-bank-chief-testifies-in-post-office-case.html "
Color me skeptical. But, that's to be expected when ones mail person has trouble connecting addresses on envelopes with the 3" tall numbers on my front door, numbers legible from a few yards distant. I wasn't aware that mail delivery included enforced exercise on my part exchanging mail with my neighbors. Silly me, I thought that that little stamp thingy covered the expense of getting said mail to the proper address.

Edward L.,

Dude: the post office is bringing your community together, at absolutely no extra charge. Be thankful!
