"In truth, we have had a difficult time accepting the idea that this race might get close."

"At the same time, Democrats nominated a long-serving member of Congress at a time when Congress is an almost universally unpopular institution. It doesn’t help that [Ed] Markey has not had a competitive race in decades."

Here, pick one:

Ed Markey or Gabriel Gomez?

See how that works?

Politics is so easy!

The Cook report announced Thursday that it was shifting its prediction for the race from “leaning Democrat” to “toss up,” although the group acknowledged it still had its “thumb on the scale” for Democrat Edward Markey, an 18-term congressman who has consistently polled ahead of his Republican rival, businessman Gabriel Gomez.

I'd go with "thumb on the scale".

Markey looks (and will probably sound) more distinguished.

Plus, it's Massachusetts.

Republicans should beware their temptation to go "All Hispanic All the Time!" That's their Achilles heel. They pick one superficial tactic (along with, I'm assuming, the guy's looks and youth), and run it into the ground. It's an inability to be nimble and adjust.

GOMEZ please!

The advantage that Gomez has over a guy like Romney is that he won't have to paint his face orange when appearing on Univision and other Spanish language broadcasts. Because of, like, that whole self-respect thing.

Illuninati said "The voters who elected a fake Indian will vote Democrat once again."

That may come true. And those voters, who represent Harvard and all that, will still think they're smart.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together বলেছেন...

Which leads me to wonder... Why do we still call Republican-voting states "red"? Don't John Boehner and Mitt signal a lightening, of sorts, from that martial shade? Perhaps Ohio and Massachusetts Republicans would be happier as "orange" voters.

Also, that would help with the Florida vote -- both from a business standpoint and when it comes to appealing to a geriatric voter's citrus diet.

Let's review: on one hand we have a young, dynamic Hispanic, who is an ex-Navy Seal and succesfull entrepeneur. On the other we have a tired old white guy with bad hair who collects Social Security and hasn't visted the private sector since Ford was President.

No doubt.

And when a tired old democrat white guy (with or without hair plugs, veneers and a ton of botox and spray on tan (orange for Kerry)) does visit a convenience store, they are usually quite surprised at who they see running the joint:

Talk like a "concerned" Democrat. You never looked at Gomez's accomplishments. He happens to be Hispanic. Your distinguished gentleman (i.e. a seasoned old white guy) has fed on the public trough for too damned long, a weasel to be gotten rid of. As a "concerned" non-liberal who is not a Republican, the Dems should run some young faces. Let someone else feed on the trough.

Btw, like Rubio and Cruz, Gomez is not the anointed candidate chosen by the establishment Republicans who should beware of their temptation.

Of course the tired old white man is a stop gap candidate, like that NJ guy, until a baby Democrat comes of age to take over.

A super accomplished young Republican's loss to old Barney Frank in 2010 means that the tired old white guy is going to win.

It's Mass, after all, they don't like colored folks, you know? They don't mind the half-white token in the WH... or the faked Indian woman in the senate. But how can they elect someone who is better tending their gardens? (A pre-played racist card to be used in the election.)

Unknown বলেছেন...

But he's so accomplished.

Gabriel Gomez is not a particularly forthcoming Senate candidate. For example, he refuses to say whether he believes employers should be able to dictate health care choices for the women who work for them. He won't release his 2005 taxes, the ones that show that tax scam problem, and he won't answer questions about it, either.
He also won't release his list of clients from the nine years he's worked at private equity firm Advent International, as the Senate candidate disclosure form requires.

Yesterday on the campaign trail, Massachusetts Republican Senatorial candidate Gabriel Gomez had an unfortunate incident, when he walked head first into a door. The door suffered concussion like symptoms and was taken to Home Depot for further evaluation.

Mr. Maynard,
Linking to a DailyKos article on this blog will lead to serious and serial ridicule.

Unknown বলেছেন...

Gee, Ed Markey is a real legislator. He's been very involved in the development of telecommunications policy leading to the rapid rise of the Internet and cell phones.

Gabriel Gomez had a lot of good will going into this campaign. He's wasted it on going negative and not having a positive campaign and ideas of his own. He is an unfortunate typical Tea Party type. Calling Markey pond scum is childish. All show, no substance. Plus there are the tax scamming and other scandals in his past. Gomez is a Hispanic male Michelle Bachmann Borat.

edutcher বলেছেন...

Maakey is a machine politician who does what he's told.

Isn't it wonderful that Democrats always run positive campaigns on the strength of their ideas.

Phil 3:14 - You're not SCSA and you don't scare me. The serious ridicule should be for the joke Tea Party candidate that's running. He has no clue about what he's doing or how to run a campaign. The longer this campaign goes on, the worse he acts and the worse his polling numbers. The bigger questions continues to be whether you know so little and think so little of Congress to continue to nominate unqualified and incompetent candidates like Gomez.

sinz52 বলেছেন...

Elizabeth Warren won simply by promising to support Obama, who is very popular in MA. (In 2012, Obama won MA by 19 percentage points.) Warren underperformed Obama by something like 10 points; she clearly won solely on his coattails.

That's Gomez's big problem, as it was Scott Brown's big problem. 60% of MA voters want Obama to succeed, and they want congressmen and senators who will help Obama succeed.

Lol. I'm not "concerned". I'm just SAYING!!!

But sure. By all means, let a Republican "feed on the trough". That's telling of you to put it that way. Especially when it's in defense of a guy whom you think has "accomplished" enough to make it unlikely for him to need feeding.

In politics it matters. It might be stupid that it matters, but it does.

How often did we hear how attractive Obama was when he first ran? It was constantly. I noticed because I never quite saw it. I consider Obama only marginally more attractive than Jindal. We constantly heard how attractive Clinton was. I noticed that, too, because every time I heard it I thought, "what?"

In fact, for Clinton I finally just gave up and decided that it must be an "in person" thing... that he was attractive "in person" and just seemed goofy-looking and smarmy on television.

If not, why? I mean, these people keep telling us that they're smarter and nicer than we are; it should be child's play to explain this logically.
