Vegans who won't breastfeed because it's an animal product? Well, I suppose that shows utmost commitment to a cause. And deep, profound stupidity.

Yet he died of starvation under her "care". Unexpectedly!
This is actually a really clear example of how ignoring the plain reality of human history is perilous. Among other things...
What on earth? Isn't breastfeeding a vegan lifestyle ideal? There was an obnoxious vegan on a mommy board I read when my kids were babies and she was all about the damn breastfeeding, and how "cow's milk is for baby cows".
3 1/2 pounds and they didn't think anything was wrong?
Those two should fry just for stupidity.

My hot Indian UK husband is a vegetarian.
We fight constantly about finding the right restaurant.
We generally settle on Panera which is quite depressing.
It's hard being married to a vegetarian.
He won't even touch the rare clumber's dog food.

An example of him not touching the rare clumber's food is that I am going home to Wisconsin and instead of him taking care of him he had to go to doggy boarding (crate free and teles) but it costs 680.00.

Babies can't digest soy.
Kid was born in the bathtub at home. Lost half his bodyweight or so during his short life.
And they didn't think anything was wrong.
Of course they wanted the baby to die. This was just late-term abortion by another means. It takes a little longer, but it's safer for mom.
Sad for the infant, but it's just as well that people like this don't successfully reproduce.
Did you ever notice that while there have been many cultures in human history that are vegetarian (e.g. Hindus & Buddhist), there are none that are vegan?
You know why? Because when you feed infants a vegan diet they die.
There was a dietician in the NYT who pointed that out in a column recently & was, of course, pilloried by the vegan community.

Actually, hospitals give babies as early as a day old soy milk when they can't tolerate regular formula and to help with colic.
Many years ago I read an article about a study demonstrating that without animal fats in our diet we lose brain cells. I regarded it at the time as just so much junk science, but something like this makes me wonder.

I'm pretty sure you mean soy formula, not soy milk. Soy milk doesn't contain the nutrients babies need. Soy formula has been amended and balanced.

These idiots who starved their child to death prove that humans are the dumbest creatures on the planet. No other creature sees what it wants to see and hears only what it wants to hear. Only humans are capable of such willful blindness. They chose to believe what they wanted to see and not their lying eyes.

Vegans do breastfeed their babies. I agree the couple acted irrationally.
However, as the prosecutors emphasized, they underfed their baby. Meat eater parents can be stupid too.

Breastmilk quality depends on the mom's diet. A diet w/o meat products will not develop an essential fatty acid profile that promotes growth and health. They are called "essential" because they are absolutely required and our bodies don't make them; we get them from our food.
Soy formula is not "balanced". It has the estrogen equivalent of 2-3 birth control pills in a serving for an infant.
I would argue that if the mom has been vegan for a long period of time, she's lost enough brain cells and/or the ability to manufacture serotonin that she doesn't make rational decisions based on fact. Vegans as obnoxious because they've lost their ability be "happy" via Vit B6/12 deficiencies that permanently damage the brain.
Ideas have consequences.

Vegans ought to be able to act on that belief, if they choose to. And If they do evolutionary pressures will take care of the rest
How is that evolutionary to starve a baby that is vastly unlikely to inherent vegan ism? Unless your poorly written point was to allow vegans to starve themselves to death, not their babies.

3:27 Black I suppose? OTOH, veganism is SWPL. Trying so hard not to read the links. I suppose we have no power to mete out deaths to these vermin as foul and cruel as they meted out to their own child.
Doesn't mean it shouldn't be tried. Let them not eat till their new trials are done. No, that's not nice. They can have stones. Three stones a day.
