I really liked You've Changed tonight. Awesomely done.

Harry Connick, Jr., is looking old, but I guess he's getting there. Which means I am too.

How rude! Do they photograph your bedroom?

I once saw a hummingbird masturbate.

I was touring around on that bicycle of the mind we call the internet when I came across a reference to Lab Lit as a literary genre. Anyone ever heard of it? The site I came across said it is distinct from science fiction, but how can that be?

Sorry - spell check. I meant Englebert Humperdink.

Walk away from the mirror...
and slow the fuck down. Nobody is gonna knock on the door. They never do.

In other nesting news, it appears that the Badger hawks will not return this year to their happy home on the UW campus. I understand that Governor Walker and the Koch brothers may be to blame.

However, as an alterntive, we have the NYU hawkcam available for your viewing pleasure.

The Althouse connection with NYU makes it a naturally appealing substitute for her fanboys and girls.

If this has been previously posted, then you obviously do not understand my comment and must try harder or else.

Actually, looks more like a squirrels nest.

Thank you, Madame.

We've been awaiting (and needing) these pics since Christmas.

Looks like we got about 6 to 8 inches of snow. Heavy wet snow.

Great new book---"The Year Without Summer: 1816"

In April 1815, Mt. Tambora in Indonesia annihilated itself. The top 3,000 feet of the mountain instantly turned to ash and was hurled 25,000 feet into the air, leaving a three mile wide, one-half mile deep crater.

The ensuing crop failures the next year caused economic upheavals and political crises. (Not to mention red snow.) No one knew what caused the strange weather; most thought it was God's will. Such superstitious people.

Two hundred years from now someone will write a book about the current climate hysteria. And about the primitive denizens of 2013.

The lights were flickering this morning. Maybe the heavy snow will snap some power lines.

Nevertheless, the fat blowing flakes were quite beautiful, though incongruous for May, settling at over an inch an hour.

I understand it's the first time they ever cancelled school for snow here in May.

hey!

My son did the artwork/cartoons for this PSA on avoiding skin cancer.

School is closed in Prescott and River Falls, WI. All others are running 2 hours late. Wait a minute, the school bus for Osceola just drove by at the regular time.

A rabbit ate the whole new shoot of my lily (this kind is one that flowers in the beginning of summer, humongous flowers with fragrance) the other day. It just snapped the whole thing and ate it. Nothing, no shreds of leaves on the ground. I ordered the Deer (and Rabbit) repellent from Amazon but they just told me they have no inventory!

{Nice PSA pogo, but what is with the Brit/Aussie accent?}

KCFleming said...

He's a Mayo M.D>, James Levine. Nice guy. Smart as hell.

Ted Cruz for president.

All I want is someone to take on the fucking lefty media and stcik it to them and I don't care which party does it. I watched Ted Cruz during Paul's filibuster and he impressed me. Rubio not at all and he lacks courage.

Nice work by your son re: sun, Pogo.

I was reading yesterday about the increased likelihood of MS for those who don't get enough sun (vitamin D) among the other D deficiency problems and wondering where the balancing point for sun is. Or maybe vitamin supplements really are the best of both worlds.

Cherry, pear, redbud and dogwood trees all flower before they put out leaves. There are others.
The profusion of flowering trees, flowering shrubs, daffodils, hyacinths, irises and other bulb-flowers make Spring in North Georgia very pretty. The downside is the high pollen count.

And yeah, that looks like a squirrel nest.

State's flagship jobs agency failed to follow law, track loans, audit says

Wisconsin's flagship jobs agency has routinely failed to follow state laws, awarded money to ineligible projects and didn't properly track loans, a scathing audit released Wednesday found.

Badger tickets, booze, ITunes cards. I'm sure Madison Man will be along asking Walker to resign?

His cartoon made me think of Chip Ahoy.

I saw this yesterday. Definitely one of the coolest things I've seen in awhile. I'll just have to assume that there are some more practical applications of moving things around, atom by atom.

Following the cataclysmic New Madrid quakes of 1811 and 1812 and Tambora eruption of 1815, Washington Irving wrote that Americans' minds were filled with "a feverish excitement...with dreams of horror and apprehension of sinister and dreadful events." People crowded churches, praying for deliverance. And all this before the birth of Al Gore, Jr.

Or as one Connecticut farmer wrote in his diary, "Great frost--we must learn to be humble."

From "The Year Without a Summer—1816"

How did pride get to be a bad thing?

Pride is good. It is the feeling you get when you hold your head high in the presence of other people and that includes your conscience because your conscience is the present sensation of your past experience of other people.

I saw the movie Rob Roy years ago and something really stuck in my head. It was Liam Neeson, as Rob Roy, saying to his son something like "Honor is the gift a man gives to himself."

And I just realized, after all these years, what I've found so perplexing about that perspective. It seems like a very wise thing to say but honor is something that is given to you by other people. It is pride that is the gift a man or woman gives to his or her self. Maybe it is accompanied by honor and maybe it isn't. But it is good.

Someone once said to me that we both had something in common, that we were both "shame-based" people. That was pretty close to the truth but it would have been more accurate to have said that everyone is a "pride-requiring" person.

Just wanted to pass that on.

Have a great day!

MadisonMan said...

Pogo, add me to people kudo-ing your son.

I just noticed three liver spots on my head (sigh). The bane of receding hair.

Garage, I would like to hear Walker explain what is happening. But I doubt it'll happen.

garage mahal said...

@MM
The audit pretty clearly explains, in detail, what is happening. Waste, fraud, and abuse.

I remember you called for Soglin to resign over diverting unused Mifflin funds.

MadisonMan said...

I think Soglin should resign because he's always away on a junket and is curmudgeonly. Sorry I wasn't clearer in the source of my ennui with the darling of 1975 Madison.

Maybe when it was based on identity, rather than accomplishment or personal scruple.

Excellent point.

Perhaps pride without honor is simple vanity and that is what we've been seeing the last 40 years or so.

Hard to imagine Soglin being away more than Walker. Actually, I'm positive that can't be possible.

MadisonMan said...

I also don't think Soglin is enjoying his job. I think Walker enjoys being Governor, but Soglin just seems miserable to me.

garage mahal said...

There can't be a lot that Walker is enjoying right now. Other than the media continuing to offer him pillows.

Baron Zemo said...

Well I do think that Walker enjoys laughing at your comments about how he is going to jail.

As a matter of fact we all enjoy that.

Thanks Buddy.
