Who secretly recorded the McConnell campaign?

A "longtime local Democratic operative" accuses "leaders of the Progress Kentucky super PAC" of what is, apparently, a felony.
“They were in the hallway after the, I guess after the celebration and hoopla ended, apparently these people broke for lunch and had a strategy meeting, which is, in every campaign I've been affiliated with, makes perfect sense,” says [Jacob Conway, who is on the executive committee of the Jefferson County Democratic Party]. “One of them held the elevator, the other one did the recording and they left. That was what they told to me from them directly.”

The meeting room door is next to the elevators on that floor. McConnell campaign manager Jesse Benton has told multiple media outlets the door was shut and locked on Feb. 2. But the door has a vent at the bottom and a large gap underneath....

Kentucky law says it is a felony “to overhear, record amplify or transmit any part of a wire or oral communication of others without the consent of at least one party thereto by means of any electric, mechanical or other device."

I am unfamiliar with the law in this area. How does this jibe with investigative journalism for example? Can a journalist go somewhere with a hidden camera and record a conversation he had?

This is why Corn released the transcripts. He knows it will reinforce the 'GOP war on women" meme the WH and the D's have been pushing, and any legal or ethical fallout will be soft-peddled by the media.
No one should have any doubt that similar tactics were discussed by the D's who are after McConnell's seat. The headlines, though, will emphasize that McConnell, old white guy, said mean things about a woman whom other women will consider a sympathetic character.
Imagine what a recording of a D strategy session in 2008 re Sarah Palin would have revealed.

In Kentucky, if the journalist, or anyone, is a party (participant - although you don't have to actually utter words) in the conversation, he/she/it can record the conversation. This is allowed by federal law, and state law in KY. Some states require all parties be aware of the recording.

dreams - The corrupt unscrupulous liberal media discovered just how powerful they are having destroyed George Bush and Sarah Palin's reputations.

1. George Bush destroyed his own reputation pretty good with Iraq, fiscal recklessness, incoherent domestic policies, and unwillingness to fight back against the more scurrilous media charges...Bush thought "history would prove him right" on "The Heroes" saving the noble Iraqis and transforming them into a vibrant, pro-Western nation. On his Big Pharma free drugs entitlement. On his feeding a huge housing bubble where everyone would get rich by financing 0% down for property flippers. And his idiot ideas on immigration, hydrogen, switch grass, putting SS at the whim of the stock market. So he didn't fight back...and then history did not bear him out on a number of disastrous calls he and other Bushies had made.
He helped wreck the Republican brand.

2. Palin was always a lightweight. A broadcast journalist who forayed into politics then quit a series of posts when she found the going tough. Wanted to be a celebrity more than a leader, and proved herself such with her reality TV shows, dysfuncional family stars, and Fox act that got old fast and lead to her being replaced earlier this year as a "flavor from the past not worth keeping on the shelf".
Palin did have her moment in the sun as a right-wing Goddess...and maybe in 5-10 years she will be invited back for some useful role..but she is toast as a national leader and national pundit.

What I learned about Mitch McConnell's Kentucky campaign office being bugged:

Ironic how alive he comes suddenly when it comes to all he cares about - his power. Too bad he has been a Wax Museum figure concerning Benghazi and Fast and Furious.

And his consistent willingness to keep the GOP Minority in the US Senate "teflon like" over the major issues of our day as he orchestrates votes for GOP Senators to look good in the palace guard press, their constituent newsletters and campaign ads,

Mitch McConnell is more responsible for Obama's re-election and the maintenance of Washington DC gridlock than any other.

The fact that Obama;s media is all over this as a Watergate wannabee is all we need to know. They are Obama's Palace Guard.

For example, they oppose the new sources of cleaner energy that have resulted in the US reaching Kyoto compliance levels without crippling our economy. They support a position on abortion that's based on 14th century biology. They favor mercantilist economic ideas that were refuted by Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations in 1776. They spoiled that wonderful word "liberal" and now they're spoiling that wonderful word "progress". What will they do next? Spoil "mom and apple pie"?
